This is the third time I have used Penguin Air The first time was for the yearly cooling tune-up The 2nd time was for a plumbing check I had purchased the maintenance plan during the cooling tune-up They called and set up the plumbing check but never called to set up the heating tune-up I ended up calling them at the end of January and set up the appointment The person who I talked to did apologize for them overlooking contacting me for the appointment During this visit the tech, Jesus, did an excellent job in informing me of maintenance that needed to be done on my air conditioning unit He showed me the areas on the exterior unit and pictures of the unit in the attic

I called Penguin Air and Plumbing after my current HVAC service failed twice in a row to diagnose my A/C and get it fixedJesus came out and although he made a call to the office for advice they had the problem figured out in less than half hourTheir basic service fee is less than the provider I had previously and $less than another competitor I checked outThey have 24hr on call techs for middle of the night or weekend issues so no more waiting till the next day as my previous provider did

We received an estimate from this company for the installation of a 1/ton stage and a ton stage SEER heat pump and air handler for $17,On the day of installation we were told that stage units do not come in 1/tons, so we would be getting two ton stage SEER units for the original priceAfter the installation was begun, it was determined that the closets to house the air handlers were not large enough and that a smaller air handler would reduce the rating to SEERThe installer indicted that there would be some adjustment for the difference As we then had no air conditioning, we agreed to the lower SeerSince this company did not normally sell a SEER, we were unable to determine the difference in amount between the two different SEERSTherefore, we calculated the difference using another company's quotes for and SEER units This came to $ The company had already charged us for the original amount and refuses to make the adjustment requ

Manny came out to do the yearly AC inspection as part of the plan that Penguin Air sells you to keep your system in "tip top" shapeManny seemed more concerned on me writing a good review for his "Five Star" reputation than actually doing his jobHe undid the disconnect to check the system, then told me the refrigerant was low, and never turned the unit back onI blame myself partly for not following him around and checking his workWhen it came time for the AC to come on, of course it didn't work and I assumed it was because the refrigerant was low because of Mannys statementsWhen the home warranty guy came out to fix it, he showed me the disconnect and the unit worked fineI am now out $dollars co-pay and two very uncomfortable days without ACI don't think this is the message Penguin Air would like to send but this is the kind of thing that gives AC guys a shady reputationVery disappointed!!
