Amazing lack of honesty in the manner ATS Processing Services, LLC (PlatePass) does business.
Toll Cost: $7 (Golden Gate Bridge)
Number of day(s) PlatePass used: One (1)
PlatePass Charges: $24.75
Calling ATS Processing Services, LLC (PlatePass)Customer Service does not help, they do not want to hear you or your reasoning. They hide behind their "it's in your contract" statement where there is no way in heaven to refuse such clause in rental car agreements
Review: Rented a car from Hertz at [redacted] in Boston. Did not ask for PlatePass equipment; did not even know it existed, and was not informed that was on the car. Paid all tolls in cash during my trip, which was to look at colleges with my son. Did not bother to keep receipts since not a business trip.
Upon return, found charge on card for just under $26, including $20 for the privilege of the "use" of their equipment.
Explained and complained to PlatePass and got nowhere; somehow the burden of proof is on me, when I neither asked for nor knew about this equipment.
This is a total scam.

Daer [redacted],
After reviewing the details of your inquiry, we have determined the charge in the amount of $26.55 was for 4 tolls accessed during your rental period, as well as for the use of the electronic toll payment service offered by PlatePass® while under rental agreement [redacted].
Hertz offers the PlatePass® service for $4.95 per rental day ($24.75 max per rental month), plus tolls if PlatePass® is activated during your rental period. The details surrounding the PlatePass® service are contained on page 3 of your rental contract. PlatePass® is an automated electronic toll payment service that enables rental car customers to use high-speed, cashless toll lanes to avoid having to stop and pay tolls with cash. As a one-time courtesy, we have reduced the administrative fees to $4.95 to reflect one day’s use. Please allow 3-5 business days for the refund to process.
We are committed to providing the highest level of customer service and apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.

For the record, not being aware that the vehicle was equipped with PlatePass, I paid every toll on my trip with cash (in cash lanes). So I really do not understand how their equipment picks up electronic toll payments from cash lanes.

Review: I was charged without notication to my banking account for TOLL road charges on roads I have never travelled ! This is total B.S. that this company is getting away with this and not to mention have over 170 similiar cases !!! Something is very wrong is this continues . Also due to these charges , I overdrew my checking account and Im out an additional $70 that they will not refund even if they find that what Im statiung is true !!!! Where is Justice !!!!! This is wrong that this can be done , we the people should be protected from crooks like these !!! Extremely Unhappy !!!!Desired Settlement: Refund and this company be examined by the government !

Recently rented a car for four days, that already had the PlatePass product installed in the car. I was shocked to see that 76.7% of the total cost for usage was for "administration charges". The total cost for tolls was $6.00! I reluctantly paid $19.80 in administration daily charges. I find these charges are excessive and I'm going to contact Hertz to make sure I always have an EASY option to 'Turn Off' the pre-installed service.
Below you will find an email sent to Hertz customer service. This is after a PROLONGED back & forth with Hertz customer service after they misled me about charges on my card. (Hertz customer service only actually responds to you if you send them an email.) ATS is associated with PlatePass, which is a service Hertz chooses to use. There is no such thing in the State of NH as a 'costly toll fee' from accidentally going through an EZPass toll, contrary to their misleading website description. It's just a fee of the toll, which in NH, is typically $1.00. They did finally confirm via email that I would be reimbursed for this frustrating experience, but I have not yet received that refund.
How can a company stay in business in this day in age, with poor practices such as this? It's absolutely appalling. Unfortunately for Hertz this has pushed me to the point where they will never have my business again.

Good morning,
My Rental Agreement # is [redacted]. I would like this to be quickly resolved.
Also, I received an invoice in the mail from PlatePass. This service was never brought to my attention at the time of the rental contract. I had an EZpass on the dashboard to pay the toll. Also, the contract states that the PlatePass service removes costly fines from toll officials. I would like to know what these 'costly fines' are. I've gone through an EZPass toll without a tag, and the only thing I was charged for was a $1.00, not $27.00, like your form states. I don't mind paying for a toll, but an administrative fee of $5/day for 3 toll fees that only occured on 3 different days, not 7? I'm appalled by the way this company has treated me as a customer. It's unbelievable that companies can get away with things like this, at this day in age. Is the goal of this company to provide a service to customers, or to make money and leave customers feeling neglected?
I want to know what level I have to take this to see this money be refunded.
Best Regards,

Review: I was charged for tolls that I did not make for a rental car that I had in January. I have spoken to supervisors at Plate Pass as well as Hertz and nothing was done. I provided the documents showing that I was in Philadelphia during the time that the tolls were charged to my debit card and I was told that someone would get back to me. I haven't heard from anyone from Plate Pass since the first phone call that was made in January. I spoke to the supervisor at Hertz on Roosevelt Blvd in Philadelphia several times and he said he would do something about the mix up and yet I haven't heard from him either. I am very upset because these charges came out of my checking account via my debit card and I had to email Plate Pass my bank statement showing that I was in Philadelphia on 1/12 and 1/19 when the tolls occurred. Now someone at Plate Pass has my debit card and bank statement but yet they refuse to refund me the $31.50 that I was charged even though I provided proof that I was not in Toms River NJ where the tolls were charged. I asked the supervisor at Hertz how this could happen and he informed me that they switch plates all the time in cars and someone most likely switched it and didn't update it in the system. It is over a month now and I still can't get in touch with anyone about refunding my money. I am very unhappy with the customer service from Plate Pass. The supervisor ([redacted]) at Hertz was nice however he did not follow up or resolve the problem so I am just as unhappy with Hertz as I am with Plate Pass.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the $31.50 that was charged to my account. I want nothing else from either company. I was charged for a service that I did not receive so a full refund of $31.50 is what I am asking. I will never use Hertz rental company again nor will I use any rental company that uses Plate Pass.

Review: I was charged $23.50 for tolls on the Hertz rental car on 9/14/15. I didn't drive to New Jersey and use any tolls. The car was picked up in Manhattan and returned to LaGuardia airport.Desired Settlement: I want my credit back.
Review: This is a complaint against PlatePass in Arizonia. I rented car from [redacted] which I returned on 7/19/13. I paid with a debit card to [redacted] at turn-in according to the rental agreement. On 7/28/13 an unexplained charge for $25.49 was charged against the debit card in connection to the [redacted] rental. After investigating I found it was from PlatePass for toll fees and I didn't know I had been on a tollway. I have been communicating with PlatePass since 8/1/13. They have agreed that I am entitled to a refund for the full amount. So far I have recieved nothing from them but a promise of "it will be done next week", and "then it will be done next week", and so on. I am just getting a run around as of 8/26/13. I have never heard of PlatePass and this is my first experience dealing with them and it has been horrible. I will not be renting a car in the furture that works with PlatePass or ATS.Desired Settlement: My desired outcome is to recieve my refund for $25.49.

Review: After renting a car from Hertz without an E-ZPass transponder, received fraudulent bill from PlatePass for $43.90 for E-ZPass tolls. At the time of the toll charges in NY the car was in the state of MD hours away. PlatePass refused to investigate the issue claiming that they believe toll charges to be valid. The burden falls on the customer to prove otherwise.Desired Settlement: Adjust bill to $0 as not toll charges were incurred.

Review: I rented a car from [redacted] in [redacted] Airport on 07/06/15. Rental agreement [redacted]. I drove from New York to Washington DC with my wife and 2 children. I received a bill of $45.05. Notice number [redacted]. My credit card was charged with $45.05. The toll amount of $15.05 is for 07/07/15 (one toll is $4.00 and the other is $11.05) plus $30.00 administrative fee. I think this company tries to rip people off. We paid all tolls along the way by cash. The only toll booth that gave us the receipt was the New Jersey Turn Pike. We tried to find out the detail proof of the toll but we could not get them from the web site listed on the bill. I paid all the tolls. It is not fair that we have to pay for something that we did not do. I am planning to dispute the charge with my credit card company if I cannot get the resolution here.Desired Settlement: I would like this company to refund the $45.05 charged to my credit account

I rented a minivan class auto from Hertz for a family vacation to Orlando, FL on June 12, 2015. We picked up the car and went for our vacation in Florida, and returned the car on June 22, 2015.
To my surprise and shock, I then received multiple charges totaling over $1,000 to my American Express card that had been used to guarantee the rental with Hertz from PlatePass, claiming that I had used over $1,000 in tolls during that week, everywhere from Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, etc. Mind you, none of this was related to my use of the vehicle in Florida.
I called ATS Processing, the parent of Plate Pass, and after multiple complaints and days of research on their part, they removed the charges and I was comfortable that the case had been closed appropriately.
Now this week, I receive an additional invoice from PlatePass/ARS for $62.25 of "additional tolls" that were supposedly reported late by the toll authority. A day later, I get another letter informing me that because I haven't paid this invoice for $62.25 (which WASNT MINE and I just got the day before), my rental priviliges at Hertz and other companies would be suspended.
What an absolute nightmare it has been dealing with this company, when I didn't even know that PlatePass existed when I rented the car. Apparently all of this is buried in the rental agreement somewhere. My advice to all is not to rent from Hertz or any other company that uses PlatePass, lest you end up with thousands of dollars of charges that were not incurred by you, in my case even 9 months after you returned the car.
Review: I suddenly received a charge on my credit card and when I called the number they curtly told me that it was part of the contract I signed with my [redacted] rental car. I really thought it was a total scam and their customer service did not actually change that belief. I researched and found only some states allow this company and that "PlatePass" lost a law suit in [redacted].
I was in a [redacted] rental car near Tampa airprt and went over an “Open road toll”. It was not an option to pay for the toll on the spot. I had no way of knowing about the toll amount and when I returned the rental car at the Tampa airport, I was told nothing about the toll. Now a $1.75 toll is costing me $26.50. I would like to pay the $1.75 toll now that I know about it, but I was told it is too late even though this is the first time I have the information about the charges. Plate Pass is a huge scam and should be banned in all states. I know PlatePass lost a lawsuit in **. [redacted] should do the same thing.
Is there anything you can do to help me with charges from PlatePass? Contacting [redacted] & PlatePass is a complete dead end that took a long time and inspired great frustration. It is actually a system designed to send you in a circle. I encourage you to try calling [redacted] about it and discover that they will only send you to the PlatePass people. That tells you that even though [redacted] subscribes to PlatePass, they will not deal with the many complaints it inspires. I will not rent from [redacted] again if there is a PlatePass clause in the contract. I certainly do not mind paying my tolls but charging me a maximum amount of money for every day of my car rental for one toll on one day of $1.75 is absolutely a scam. How can this be a Revdex.com endorsed business?Desired Settlement: Degrade the status of this company to at best a B. The company should be required to attempt to collect the toll amount by notifying the consumer of the charges and allowing the charges to be paid by the consumer with no or a minimum amount of surcharge added to the toll. $24.75 in fees for a $1.75 charge is against the law, particularly with no notice or other opportunity to pay the original charge.

Review: I sent the following message to the company:
I was erroneously charged for tolls on my Dollar rental car (RA#: [redacted], Rented from 4/09/2014 to 4/12/2014). The charge of $20.75 appeared on my VISA on 4/10/2014 at 10:04:40 PM. The description of the charge--which I traced to your company--was: RENT A CAR TOLLS [redacted] NY. At that time I was finishing dinner at the [redacted] Restaurant ([redacted]. [redacted], Tampa Florida [redacted]) and/or driving to the home of family members (North bound on [redacted]. [redacted] to County Line, Left [redacted]. [redacted] to [redacted] Blvd, then South on [redacted] to [redacted], then Right on [redacted] to [redacted] and my destination). There are no toll roads on (or even near) my route. I have a signed receipt from the restaurant proving I was at that location at 9:25 pm. I am requesting a detailed invoice explaining the nature of the charge. Your on-line database did not recognize my name and contract number. I believe that these charges are fraudulent and I am registering a complaint with the Revdex.com about the lack of transparency of toll related charges. If you cannot provide proof that I passed through a toll zone, I insist that you reverse the charge.Desired Settlement: I am asking for an explanation of the charges. If the explanation is incomplete, unsatisfactory and/or contradicted by the evidence I provided, I will ask for a reversal of the charges.

Review: I rented a vehicle from [redacted] in [redacted], ** for the period of 05/23/14 to 05/26/14. During this time I made two crossings in the rental vehicle over the electronically tolled [redacted]. Each crossing I made incurred a $3.00 toll charge for a total of $6.00. As per the regulations of the toll bridge the toll may be paid online via credit card within 7 days of crossing. Doing this avoids excess charges and avoids the toll authority mailing an invoice. Despite paying these tolls online I received a notice from ATS (d.b.a. [redacted]) requesting payment of $6.00 for the toll plus an absurd $14 admin fee. Despite my email of proof of payment directly to the toll authority and a submission via their online dispute system - I never received any acknowledgment. I made my first email contact on 7/30/14 and used the online dispute form the next day. On 8/12/14 they charged my credit card in the amount of $20.70. I consider this fraud and an unauthorized charge. This company has made it impossible to dispute their billing errors as they seem content to ignore customer inquiries. I have now paid twice for the same toll plus their administration fee.
Rental No. [redacted] Notice No.[redacted]Desired Settlement: Full refund of the toll fee and administration fee, total $20.70 charged to my [redacted] card ending in[redacted].

Review: I recently had a [redacted] rental car from 5/27 to 6/21 due to my car being totaled from the hailstorm. I had to pay approximately $146 for the rental for the time period. The person that took care of me was [redacted]( [redacted]). I thought for sure everything was taken care of at the time I returned the car. Low and behold it wasn't. I logged onto my bank account on 6/30/2014 and I see a charge for Rental Tolls. Didn't have a clue what that was. So I called [redacted] immediately on [redacted] and the gentleman that passed the buck. The gentleman I spoke with at [redacted] told me I must contact [redacted]. This was my first time hearing of [redacted]. I was never informed about [redacted] was never in the area of these they are claiming. I am very upset because of that transaction my account has been over drawn and I would like this matter taken care immediately. They are stating I was in [redacted] and [redacted] on 2 occasions which I was not. My Account has been overdrawn since June 30th. The lady at [redacted] named [redacted] has told me on several occasions that the transponder wasn't in my vehicle. [redacted] is refusing to credit my account for all the overdraft fees that I occurred and the amount of tolls. Which totals as of 7/8/14 $155.00. [redacted] is asking for my bank records which I really don't feel is any other there business. I have even asked [redacted] to provide me with the picture of the car that went threw the Toll and they are refusing.Desired Settlement: [redacted] is refusing to credit my account for all the overdraft fees that I occurred and the amount of tolls. Which totals as of 7/8/14 $155.00. I want [redacted] to credit my account for $155.00 since I never gave them permission to withdraw any money from my account. I have been waiting from 6/30/14 for this to be taken care of. Everyday I am charged $6.00 from my bank for my account being overdrawn.

Dear [redacted],
Our records indicate you drove a total of 1441 miles, and to travel from your pickup location through the tolls and back comes to around 410 miles. This is the reason that proof you were not in the area of the tolls was requested, and a refund was not initially issued. We were able to make contact with a representative at the [redacted] location where you rented from, and the conclusion is that the transponder that is linked to the vehicle may be misplaced and a refund is due. Regards,
A 75cent toll charge turned into a $20.55 charge on my credit card. I know loan sharks that provide better rates.
Platepass was a service offered through a Firefly car rental that we had. It was meant to automatically kick in if we didn't pay a toll using the rental car. At $25.50 per day it is hardly worth using the service but might help so you don't incur fines from missing tolls.
We did not have change for a toll that we had to go through but we did not want to pay $25.50 for one toll. Fortunately the toll booth allows you to send in the money via check to pay the toll which we did. However, we were still charged the $25.50. This is understandable because perhaps the DOT did not let Platepass know that the charge was paid.
What is not good is that I submitted my dispute on their website and emailed them and did not hear back from them. I tried calling their phone number so that I could dispute the charge via phone. The automated system asks for your last four digits of your credit card number, the date of the charge, and the amount before you are supposedly connected with a customer service representative. However every time we did this, it would loop us back to answer these questions again and NEVER ACTUALLY CONNECT US WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. It was impossible for us to make a dispute through plate pass. THIS IS A VERY DIRTY TRICK. I ended up disputing this charge through my Credit Card.
Review: I was recently made aware by the clerk of the court in [redacted]y that I had two red light traffic citations reported under my name from 2014. I was never provided with a violation via US Mail and I never received any notice via email or any other contact method. I called the company (ATS) to get more details regarding these tickets and was told that there were two tickets issued within 20 minutes of eachother. I was then given Notice # [redacted] and notice # [redacted] I tried using both of these two login and view the violations, however their website gave error messages for both citations. I can not pay, view, or dispute these violations as their website constantly gives error messages. I called to request a copy of the notice and find out if someone can assist me with getting into their website. I was told by the representative that "the website is probably just down and having problems", and was given no promise of it being back up anytime soon. I was told that a copy of the citations could be emailed to me, but that it would take 7-10 business days. I asked if there is anyway to get this information sooner as this is causing me issues with my insurance company and they offered no other solution. The fact that the company took over a year to report these tickets to the clerk of the court, and has provided my zero proof of the citations is absurd. Additionally, they are claiming there are two citations on the same day, within 20 minutes of eachother. Almost anyone would require proof to believe these accusations. Also, there isn't even an option to pay or view the information on their website, leaving absolutely no way to remedy this problem. After checking the website for 5+ days and speaking with 3 representatives, no one has been able to offer any proof or additional information as to how to remedy this problem.Desired Settlement: If proper proof and online access to these citations can not be provided, then there is no reason that I would pay such citations. I have done everything on my end to remedy this problem. If access to their website can be provided so that I can dispute these tickets and take them to traffic court for a hearing, then I will proceed that way. However, since they can't get their website to work and can't provide proof of the violation, then these charges need to be removed from my record.

On 2/25 I attempted to reach out to complainant. She answered the phone and advised she would call back in four minutes. After not hearing back, I tried her again on 2/26. There was no answer. I left a voice mail with my phone number, and information that the citation information has been emailed to her, and that the office of the clerk of the court would need to be the authority to address the outstanding citation. I did leave my direct number in case she has additional questions, but without a response there is no further step I can take.
