Terrible Company. Nothing but thiefs and scam artists!!!

WILL NOT CANCEL MEMBERSHIP AFTER MULTIPLE, REPEATED REQUESTS!!!!!!!

A total shame that a company *** operate like this and get away with it!!!

Throw them all in jail!!!!

They are total cheaters, they lured me with low cost movie viewing and charged one year subscription in advance, they constantly add new rules and dont grandfather in the old rules till the original service contract is complete, they end up charging your card for the full price of movie. Poor customer service and no responses to enquiries and the illegiitmate charges. when contested with credit card, they cancelled my service, now I lost all my 1 year subscription :(

Please be aware!!

After suckering you in with a low printed price, they add fees upon fees to actually use the service they offer. Then after months of using their service, to "combat fraud" they are now asking for a copy of a government issed photo ID to continue using their service. Incredible! I have never been asked to give a copy of my ID for any company to keep on file and do whatever they want with it other than a bank, which is federally mandated to receive it. This is insane! I highly doubt I will ever see a refund (just cancelled today).

Sinemia should be avoided. I wish I had read reviews prior to pre-paying for a years service. First they misrepresented their service by not acknowledging all fees. Then they change the rules of use without any warning making system harder to use. If you are considering their service, don't prepay for any length of time, you will regret it.

They say they are going to charge my card on file for the online convience fee that they are charged when I buy a ticket online. They charge $1.80, and regal only charges them $1.50. Last time they said they were going to charge my card the $1.80 and they charged $1.90. I know it is only $.10 but still I approved a charge of $1.80 and they charged more than they were supposed to. Also the app is supposed to pop up a notification when you get to the theater to check in and it doesn't then they charge me for the ticket (and use one of my passes) as a 'misuse' fee. That means they are charging me twice for the same convience fee! I emailed them and they never respond. But when they want to charge you a misuse fee they email you super fast. I want a phone number! Or at least a chat feature so I *** get help before my movie is supposed to start!

Sinemia is Fraud and Big Scam , I send them proof of my transaction , Convenience Fees was never charged on my any ticket purchased ..and I also send them proof of receipt but they still charging me for convenience fee and not ready to refund those fees .. ..

Like many others - I've been ripped off and charged sneaky fees. They don't care about their customers, but lock us into a yearlong contract because they know that their business model is screwing customers over.

Signed up on an annual pass *** their cardless option to purchase tickets since the information that was presented on their website seemed straightforward and easy. Wow, was I mistaken. When I stated using the service, I was informed that I needed to go through a 3rd party movie app to purchase the ticket so ended up having to sign up for that. Then I needed to copy the "virtual card" info from Sinemia (which changed everytime I had to use the service) to the 3rd party vendor which charged a convenience fee. Then I was charged by Sinemia a convenience fee. What was supposed to be roughly a $8/month plan turned out to be roughly $13 or more a month due to these extra fees that were not clearly explained. After using the service once, I requested a refund only to be told it was non-refundable. In addition, it was not until late last year that they allowed you to order their debit card to help avoid these extra fees, however you had to pay about $15 to get this. Now, they are requesting that I upload a government issued ID (with all the information including the ID card #) and a picture of me holding this ID so that they *** reduce fraud, even though I had pre-paid for a years worth of service. They suspended my ability to order tickets until I do this, even though they never notified me ahead of time I had to do this. In addition, getting a response from them is slow. I had emailed them last month on a question, and had to email them again a week later. 3 weeks later I get a response and when I asked for a copy of the email requesting ID verification, they could not provide one which means that they are not properly notifying customers of changes that are impacting a customer's account. They are starting to become worse than Movie Pass. Be careful if you decide to use this service and ensure you read everything and take a picture of their Terms of Service as they will tend to change it without proper notification.

If I could go lower I would. This is an absolute bait and switch model. It's also impossible to use without racking up constant FEES. Today, their system told me that all was well, that I knit heeded ti check in, and so did. After the movie they sent me a note saying that my in theater ticket was invalid! I checked my bank, and surely enough, they hit me again and said I was late checking in.

These guys should be held accountable. Nothing but massive fees from the begging. Certainly their model depends on them being able to trick their customers into paying constant FEES.

The Sinemia app check in process failed to work despite my best efforts (i.e., restarting my phone, going outside the theater to get a better signal, etc.). I contacted Sinemia immediately and sent a screenshot of the app where it clearly stated that I was "0.0 miles" away from the theater and yet when I tried to check in the error message stated "You must be closer to the theater...". Sure enough, my account was locked and I had to pay their fraudulent "misuse" fee. None of my attempts to contact Sinemia have been successful. I absolutely hate this company. Buyer beware!

This company commits theft of your money. They promise you *** see one movie a month for an upfront fee. You then have to pay additional fees or but their debit card. Then today, I attempted to pay the additional fee and get locked out because they want a picture of my ID. Why now after months with them? This was not in the TOS

Hello,
I feel that Sinemia is purposefully avoiding responding to customers emails. Their app malfunctions on Feb X XXXX when my family was seeing a movie. I immediately sent them an email while at the theater. I have only received generic emails with now substance in response. My account has been frozen since Feb X XXXX for a "misuse fee". I attempted to contact their customer service via email, Instagram, Facebook, Facebook messenger, and their website submission form. They have since delected my comments on social media and still failed to respond to my emails. I have opened in total of 4 tickets over the last 2 weeks with no response.

Please help expose this company for its' terrible customer service and disingenuous business tactics.

Sinemia is a bait and switch operation that charges new fees for customers even on annual plans. They charge fees I never agreed to when I paid up front for a whole year, then implement ridiculous ID verification, and their app doesn't work and they lock peoples' accounts and blame it on the customer. Do not use Sinemia, and I will absolutely not be renewing my account with them.

My account was locked after experiencing check in issues at the theater. I contacted support through email and Twitter and never received a response. I'm now being charged a misuse fee. Very poor customer service.

The company is requesting us to submit ID verification, meaning that we must take a picture of ourself with our IDs. They event want the ID number.
They have requested members to send in personal information that could easily lead to identify theft. It is not okay for companies to request this information.

Desired Outcome

I will not submit my private information to this company. However, they have not offered to reimburse me my subscription price (they charge for a year upfront).

Hi, ID verification is required to prevent fraud and keep Sinemia sustainable and affordable. By verifying your ID, you help us ensure you are who you say you are and that you are the sole user of your Sinemia account.
Upon reviewing your account we see that your account has been already approved by our team since you have provided your ID documents.. You can be sure that your documents had been deleted from our servers permanently.
Thanks.

This company continues to amaze me with extra fees and now they want me to send a copy of my drivers license to prove who I am after 6 months.
This company continues to amaze me with extra fees they've added since joining which were never mentioned and now they want me to send a copy of my drivers license to prove who I am after 6 months using this service I paid for.?
How is this legal Asking me to send a copy of my government issues I'd? How do I know this will not be criminally misused?
It also says to not alter or modify the copy meaning I can't cross out the actual drivers license number which I do not feel safe giving them.

Desired Outcome

I am asking to continue my service without providing a copy of my drivers license and to remove the extra fee I am being charged for service fees

By verifying your ID, you help us ensure you are who you say you are and that you are the sole user of your Sinemia account. Also, once you upload the necessary documents, the ticketing feature will be automatically turned on.
Upon reviewing your account we see that you have already uploaded the necessarry documents.
Wwe have informed our team to accelerate the verification process for you.

On the other hand, Sinemia covers the cost of your movie ticket. Everytime you purchase a ticket online using your Sinemia plan there are transaction fees imposed by the payment processors. Sinemia may reflect these processing fees to your payment method on file if such fees are involved. If you would like to avoid online transaction fees, you may order a physical card and purchase your movie ticket in the theatres.
For further details you may contact us at ***@sinemia.com. Thanks!

If you pay for a service and they change the terms of service they must offer a refund if the customer doesnt agree to the new terms. Sinemia says no
Sinemia changed terms after paid for a year and then say they cannot refund as policy, but if they can change policy whenever they could just make it harder to use a service so it is also false advertising.

Desired Outcome

Just refund the remainder of my membership as I do not and did not agree to your updated terms of service.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They didnt even attempt to address my concern, they are operating illegally by changing terms, then denying refunds on a pre paid service. This is against California law.

Sinemia Response • Mar 09, 2019

Hi. Sinemia is a non-refundable service. However, as a managerial exception, a pro-rated refund of your plan has been issued on our end and It will be processed on Sinemia's end within 1-2 weeks. Please note that refunds issued to the original payment method are normally processed by your payment provider and/or issuing bank within 5 to 10 business days. However, some payment providers may hold the funds for a full billing cycle or longer. For further information regarding refund processing time frames, or if you require assistance locating a refund submitted back to your original payment method, please direct your inquiry to your financial institution.

After I signed up and paid, Sinemia unexpectedly demanded invasive personal information and has locked my account until I provide it.
I recently signed up for one year of Sinemia's movie subscription service. A few weeks later, I received an email from the company that said I had to "verify my identity" by sending them a scan of my driver's license and a picture of me holding my license next to my face. In addition, I would not be allowed to redact any information on my license (including driver's license numberwhy on earth would they need that?), and my user account was locked until I provided this invasive information. I emailed Sinemia multiple times over the next week, saying I was not going to give them this invasive personal information, especially since their terms of service and signup process didn't mention it at all (or I wouldn't have signed up in the first place). After sending several emails with no reply, I started tweeting at the company for help. Finally they replied on Twitter, only to say I had to send them the invasive personal information or else I couldn't use my account, and there were no refunds. Besides the fact that 1) their requiring this personal information is unnecessary for the service they're providing, 2) they don't tell users it's coming until after they've paid (for obvious reasons), and 3) they won't give me any details as to why they need this information or how it will be used (customer service just repeats the stock phrases in the original email), it's unbelievable that they won't refund my account after deciding I owe them MORE personal data AFTER I already paid them. Sinemia is the only company I can recall that has ever demanded this kind of information. Even MoviePass was better than this.

Desired Outcome

Sinemia has made it clear that I can't use my account without handing them the invasive personal information they demand, so I want a full refund for my annual membership, the early activation fee, and the debit card fee.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Although the wording of Sinemia's response is unclear (they seem to say my account is "unlocked" but that I do not have the ability to buy movie tickets), it appears they HAVE unlocked my account so that I can buy tickets. A customer service rep emailed me to say my account is unlocked, and when I tested the app at a theater to confirm, I was able to buy a ticket. So it seems that Sinemia has decided to give up on requiring that I hand over additional personal information in order to use my account. Given that, my complaint has been successfully addressed. But if it turns out that Sinemia reverses course, at any point in the remaining 11 months of my membership, and again decides to require more invasive personal information, I will be filing another complaint with the Revdex.com and FTC.

Sinemia is imposing a requirement to upload a scanned copy of a government issued ID, AND a second photo of the member's face with the government ID
I just closed a complaint with Sinemia over their misuse fees and other unfair practices. Today, I saw in my account a newly imposed requirement by Sinemia. Sinemia is locking out members from using the Sinemia service if they do not "comply". Sinemia is imposing a requirement that the member scan their government issued ID and upload to Sinemia. sinemia also requires the member to take their own photo of their face, with the government issued ID displayed adjacent to the face and upload that. If the member doesn't do these things, Sinemia is cutting off use of the account but is not returning the amount paid. It is simply keeping the money and not letting the member use the service. It is absolutely outrageous to be doing this. What Sinemia is demanding is a vehicle for them or their employees or other people to engage in identify fraud and an invasion of privacy. And in this regard, Sinemia maintains an address in Los Angeles, but it is actually in Turkey, outside the reach of American law enforcement. I paid an annual membership in September of 2018 for $120 and will be cancelling my membership as a result of this requirement. I am demanding returning of my unused pro rata amount of $60

Desired Outcome

I paid $120 for an annual membership. I am cancelling and demand that Sinemia reimburse me for the pro rata unused amount of my membership. $60

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I accept the refund of the remaining half of my annual membership. I reiterate that this company's business practices appear to me to be very sleazy and at some point will need to be addressed by a government regulator or class action lawsuit, since the Revdex.com treats each complaint on a one-by-one basis. Sinemia's latest sleaze is the termination of accounts for supposed violations of terms of service where 1. Sinemia is almost universally unable to identify the actual violation by members; and 2. Sinemia is calculating refunds based upon the amounts Sinemia paid for the members tickets. So for example, if a member has a 3 movie per month plan, and paid 9 dollars, and went to one movie in the terminated month, Sinemia is calculating that it does not owe a refund because it paid 11 dollars or 14 dollars or whatever the case may be for that ticket. If you mulitply this by the hundreds of people with monthly and annual prepaid plans Sinemia has falsely terminated, you can see that Sinemia is using account termination to make money and/or limit losses, and that these account terminations have nothing to do with violations of Terms of Service in almost every case. A good prosecutor would investigate whether this amounts to fraud and shut them down.

ID Verification Requirement which I did not agree to when I renewed for $204 for the year, now Sinemia has suspended my account till I send this.
Sinemia suspended my service till I pay a "misuse fee"... they said I didn't "check in" for the new process using their cardless feature. I forgot the last step needed on my iphone. Sinemia went cardless in December and this was the first time using it. Despite several emails explaining this and asking them to waive this charge, they would not reinstate my service till I paid that $24 fee. So, I paid it. The next day I received an email that it was activated. But then the same day when I logged into my account, there was a message that I need to send a selfie pic with two different forms of ID??? They are saying it is an ID Verification requirement needed. They have suspended my account till I do this. When I renewed my service and paid $204 for the year these were not the terms that I agreed to. I have sent several emails and like the others when I wanted to get the misuse fee waived, I know they are not going to answer my email. I would like my money for the year returned if I am required to send that ID verification. I don't feel a company has the right to have someone pay for a service then add requirements afterward unless they plan on returning the customer's money if they don't want to agree to the new terms. Many on the internet have expressed how Sinemia has been not answered their emails and also suspended their accounts. There is a class action law suit against them for the booking fees as well.

Desired Outcome

I would like my service activated WITHOUT the requirement of sending an ID verification with 2 sources of ID and a self picture holding these as Sinemia is requiring or I would like the refund I was charged for this annual service.

Sinemia Response • Feb 26, 2019

Hi, upon reviewing the user's account we see that you have not completed your check-in for the movie on 1st of January. As stated in the terms and conditions you need to complete your check-in for the movies in order to prevent misuse. However, as a managerial exception, we will be removing your misuse fee from your account.
On the other hand, we see that you have used all of your movie days for your latest Sinemia month and your membership has been expired therefore there is not an amount to be refunded. ID verification is required to prevent fraud and keep Sinemia sustainable and affordable. By verifying your ID, you help us ensure you are who you say you are and that you are the sole user of your Sinemia account. Also, once you upload the necessary documents, the ticketing feature will be automatically turned on.

Your subscription had ended, therefore you do not need to complete ID verification if you do not want to continue your membership.
Thanks!
