On October I called ADT to set up my alarm system with themI got everything set up over the phone on a recorded line with themWhen the day of the installation comes and am about to signed everything I notice that the monthly amount was not the one I agreed on over the phone with the representativeI told the technician to take everything apart and just to charge me for the installation, but I was not going to pay that outrages fee for the alarmThe Tech Harold C*** works for Defenders Inc, which now I now is a Dealer that works for ADTHarold calls his Manager, and she tries to convince me to keep the service that she will look for a better deal and also she will send me $worth in gift cards
Well the gift card it's a sales tactic they use to rip hard working people offIn order for you to get the gift card you have to do so many things that none that has a life would do, but its not my case because I went my way I sent everything that was need it for the gift card
In Dec I had ADT install a security system in my homeAfter receiving numerous letters from the police department for alarms (due to motion detective because of my cat), I called and cancelled my serviceAt this time ADT did not mention I was under a year contractHowever I started receiving harassing calls from DefendersThey stated I owed an early termination fee (75% of balance of contract) $1,At this time I called ADT to restate my service not realizing I had signed a year contract with ADTHowever the harassing calls from Defenders continuedI informed them I reinstated my service with ADT so I should not be receiving this harassing callsDefenders stated it does not matter that I reinstated my service with ADT that I still would have to pay the early termination feeI told the individual that this doesn’t make senseSo I called ADT again and spoke to a professional agent named Kimberly who agreed this did not make sense to her eitherShe offered to call Defenders on my behalfAfter being hung up on numerous times and transfered from rep to rep, she got the same response from Defenders that I would stil be responsible for the early termination fee even though I was trying right the situationThis does not seem to meet the standard of being fair to the consumerIf ADT called Defenders, who is a third party agent representing ADT, and told Defenders that I am in good standing with ADT, I should not have to pay the cancellation feeI should only have to pay the monthly service fee now that my account had been reinstatedHowever, as stated above, Defenders told the ADT agent that it didn’t matter that ADT said that I am in good standing with them and that I still owe the cancellation fee
I fix and flip homes At times, I need the alarm service anywhere from 3-months depending on the property This was explained in detail to ADT Defenders, and they assured me that given the volume of business involved, I would be able to cancel or suspend service in the homes I own without incurring any penalties or fines Now, they are asking me to pay the balance on their year coerced contract
The biggest problem with this company is that they don't disclose that they are an authorized dealer for ADT and not the real deal They answer the phone as ADT and not as DEFENDERS so you have no way of checking their reviews, credentials, of Revdex.com standing I felt strong-armed into getting the system by his "installer" Rudy ***, while all the time I thought I was dealing with ADT itself He wanted me to sign blank documents on his iPad claiming he could not print them or modify them; however, he was able to produce a paper contract with the correct amount for monitoring that we had agreed on and not the amount on his iPad
I asked that all papers signed and/or initialled by me on the iPad be emailed to me and lo and behold, there were blank papers with "my initials." The next day they charge my credit card account for a strange amount and the first monthly charge came in at a higher amount Defenders is not an ethical company and ADT should cancel their contract with them They give ADT a bad name
I feel that I was misled/manipulated by the company in two ways
(1) I contacted this company to inquire about an offer to reactivate service at a lower price, around $per month The offer was agreed to over the phone and an appointment was set up At no time during the call was I told that this offer would not be honored if I did not have a landline connection When the installer arrived, I was told the monthly rate would go up to over $per month because it had to be over a cellular connection Had I known this in advance I would never have agreed to such a rate I do not feel this is an ethical business tactic An important detail that would make such a big difference in rate should have been revealed to me before I agreed to their offer, was charged $and set up an appointment
(2) In addition, during my initial phone call, I was told the $fee would be refunded to me in the form of a gift card At no point during this initial call was I i
Purchased ADT in May for an apartment while I was house hunting, knowing I wouldn’t be there but a yearMy father and I were told “no problem” the contract was for one year, repeatedlyThe system worked well for about months, and then I had issues with my sensors falling off and being set off because they were not placed properlyThe Cincinnati police department was notified twice of the alarm while I was out of the country, and arrived to find a alarmI received an $bill for them to show up, nothing was ever mentioned while purchasing the product that there may be additional feesLuckily I did not have to pay this feeAt the time the sensors fell off, I contacted ADT who told me that Defender serviced the account and forwarded me to a number that linked back to ADTAfter being incorrectly transferred several times Defender said to buy an adhesive and try thatI did, which also did not workI called defender several times after that who said it was ADTs issue
I contacted company and had installed an alarm system Once installed and my old system taken down, I discovered the new system was older than the one I had I asked installer to leave my old system and he took it I need surveillance and installer stated he would return to install cameras, but did not I main the Notice of Cancellation to two addresses stated on the contract, one was returned undeliverable I cancelled contract in contracted time frame, but company continues to send me bills and has also taken monies from my checking account
