I have an account with Synchrony Bank that I opened with GE Capital before they switched. I paid every payment on time and usually paid more than the minimum and they lowered my credit limit. A few of my other credit cards gave me increases at the same time. I paid off my account and have not used it in a while. I would close the account if it wouldn't hurt my score.
This is a terrible organization!! I recently opened a Walmart Master Card through them and have tried to get my initial credit line increased somewhat.
I spend thousands of dollars per yr. with Walmart & Sam's Club and have perfect credit and several major bank cards.
Upon calling their toll free phone bank # 3 times, I was told I could not submit new credit info. to increase my line, no remedy or person of authority and simply told to call back in 4-6 months and maybe they can look at it then.
What a way to run a business?
Walmart should look for a new credit card company!
Synchrony Bank Formerly GE Capital has taken over several of my store and credit cards. I randomly received a letter in the mail saying that they closed my Banana Republic Account. The account has been paid off and I have had this credit card since the 90's when I first started my professional career. The letter was vague and at first I thought it was a scam. I called them and I got a nasty rep on the phone who acted like she was completely put out by my phone call. I asked her why my account was closed and explained that I was never late nor am I carrying a balance. She told me that they could close accounts whenever they wanted and that I would get a letter in the mail. I pushed for an explanation and she told me that I have not used the card so they closed it. I was shocked and asked if they could really do that just because I haven't used the card in awhile? She answered nastily "Yes we could do that!" I use this card to buy gifts every now and again, as well as cloths, etc. when I need to. Just because I pay my balance in full and didn't use it in awhile, they just close my account???
Fast forward to my second experience with this shady so-called bank. I have a paypal smart connect card that I have also had forever. My credit line was 1800 forever. I had bought some stuff online for my wedding. I am getting married in 3 months. I decided to pay 1K and then another $150 so that I could have some credit to buy some items online using paypal. I called them to confirm my payment. I still carried a balance of 600 that I was going to pay off next week. I pay my bill ontime. So I had credit of $1200 - hooray I could order some stuff from Etsy, etc. Well no. I went to buy something and my card was declined. I called them and they told me that my credit line was reduced to 900, and since I had a pending charge on the card, I had no credit left to use. They transferred me to their underwriter that told me that I would get a letter in the mail about why my "credit line increase" was declined. I don't want a credit line increase - I just want to get my credit back that I had for years and years. I just want to be able to use my paypal card for my wedding. They not only didn't help at all, but who the [redacted] reducues a credit line randomly after you pay the card. Shady and stupid. Had I known they were going to do this with no explanation, I would never have paid that much money on it. I could use that money for my wedding stuff! I am done with them. I am closing all my accounts with them. I hope the stores get wise and cut this foreign bank off. Coupons, points, discounts, nothing matters if you have to deal with this bank. Close your accounts.
Misleading information, poor customer service, and rude representatives. They seem to go out of their way to make things confusing and difficult in hopes of creating penalty charges or interest penalties. Even though I have a temporary 0% interest line of credit I may pay it off by borrowing elsewhere simply because they are so difficult to deal with. The CS Supervisor interrupted me each time I spoke and kept telling me I was incorrect that I was having difficulties rather than listen to my difficulties. They have no complaints department or phone number which could be used to escalate problems. POOR SERVICE.
Worst Bank EVER. I have had several cards that were GE Capital for several years. Just recently I found out that Synchrony Bank is now the new bank. Mycredit cards, which I had for years, had the limit reduced because of making more than one payment. Not once in the history of the credit card did I never pay nor were I ever late on a payment. Then, just the other da Worst Bank EVER. My wife and I have had several cards that were GE Capital for several years. Just recently we found out that Synchrony Bank is now the owner of our accounts. We found this out by the letter sent to us from the bank. My wife's credit card, which she had for over 10 years, had the limit reduced several "fees" were added to the account all because ONE payment was only A DAY early. The bank credited the account on the previous bill and assumed we didn't pay the past month's bill. Not once in the history of the credit card did we never pay nor were we ever late on a payment. Then, just the other day, I get a letter in the mail from Synchrony Banky LOWERING the credit limit on my Lowe's account because I was using the card!!! I just recently purchased a house and along with purchasing a house comes repairs and such. I had paid off my Lowe's account but left it open for just this occasion. This is a horrible bank that does not care about customers. If you have this bank pay off your cards and never get credit from them!! y, I get a letter in the mail from Synchrony Bank Lowering the credit limit on my Amazon I had paid off my account but left it open for gifts or other purchases. This is a horrible bank that does not care about customers. If you have this bank pay off your cards and never get credit from them!!
Synchrony has ruined my life. They took everything over from GE and started sending me letters about increasing available balances a few months ago WITHOUT ME REQUESTING OR ASKING FOR CREDIT LINE INCREASES! NOW their sending me letters that they are lowering everything even lower than before the increases!! Who does this?? I've never been treated like this! They took over I don't know how any of my accts and are now manipulating them back and forth and even though for years I've paid on time, they take away what credit lines I had left with them!! NEVER been treated like this!! CARECREDIT is the biggest hit to me it helped save one of my cats lives and I had always paid my promotionals off on time so no interest, then I had a $1500 radiation therapy I had to do and it saved my cats life...I couldnt pay the promotional in time and was willing to pay the interest. $259 for 6 months worth of interest on $1500!! and now $31 a month and they took $1000 of credit away and left me with $250 now I have nothing to lean on if something happens....all for never being delinquent they just make their decisions to give and take money away from you with their 'REVIEWS'...I NEED MY CARE CREDIT!!!!!!!!
very disappointed with this bank's tricky approach towards customers
I went from a flawless record with them and due to my bank card being defrauded and missing 1 payment they cancelled my cards after 3 years of excellent payment history! I was treated like I was trying to swindle them out of the $800 I owed- even though I have 715 credit score. Synchrony is the worst establishment I have ever dealt with.
After then closing my card, even though they reinstated it, I told them I refuse to do business with a bank that treats customers like they have treated me! Guess what, now due to closing my account they instantly turned me into a credit collector after this 1 missed payment. They are a joke and I will let that sit on my credit score and they can eat it!
Save yourself the hassle and forget about using this institution!
I feel a little better reading the other reviews and seeing that this company is not honest and do not treat their loyal customers like they value them, instead just slapping them in the face and dumping them! I have two accounts JCPenney and Walmart in an attempt to build my credit with positive credit history. I have never paid late ever since I have had the credit cards and out of the blue they lowered my credit limit. I incidently made a purchase and they lowered my limit to a few dollars above my purchase which makes me look bad. This is a terrible look on my credit report. However, at this point, I don't expect them to care about their customers anymore. Once I pay the balances, I will just stop using the cards. I won't support a business that does not value its customers.
Lost a source of income and became late on payments. Synchrony representatives and/or collection agents (when I asked if they were they would not acknowledge working directly for Synchrony) called me several times a day every day like clock work. When I tried to negotiate deleting the late payments so I could make affordable payments, I was told no but that I could set up future payments. Really future payments? One third(if not more) of my balance is late payments. I just wanted to pay the account off, have some of the late payments deleted and some of the late payments deleted off my credit report My account was closed which was a shame because I actually liked my rates and the online presence.
I had an account with GE which changed to Synchrony. I had never missed a payment and paid my balance in full each time I used my card. After a year and a half my account was closed because my credit did not meet their requirements. NOTHING HAD CHANGED IN MY CREDIT REPORT. In fact, my score was better when my account was closed than when it was opened. Bad business. When I called, they could not tell me why my account had been closed. I will not work with Synchrony any more.
I have a loan through synchrony bank and the Yamaha installment program. I just need to speak with someone about making some principal only payments in addition to my current payments.. All I am getting is machines that only provide one or two options and are very UNHELPFUL .. I would love to speak with a real person that could help me..!!!!!
I had not used an online bank before but decided to try Synchrony Bank because the rates for a CD in an IRA are better than my local bank. I do not know why it did not work. The money never transferred from my bank to Synchrony. My bank said they never received the paper work that Synchrony said they sent twice. I checked the address and it was the right one. After a couple of months I gave up. I then used another investor group and the money transferred in a couple of weeks. I also noticed after the account (to which no money was transferred) was opened and Synchrony sent me paperwork the interest rate was different. I still don't know what happened?
I am a customer that until today carried a Scorecard Rewards Dick's credit card issued by Synchrony. The problem started when I went online to pay any dues in my account. The link that I usually follow let me to a page where my computer browser aptly filled the login info immediately. The web page 'told' me I was unrecognized. This was followed to calls to a 800 number that appeared on screen and customer service representatives that told me the physical scorecard number was unrecognized as well.
I followed up with the bank. No success trying to get someone to talk to. Back to the Scorecard 800 numbers the confusion escalated to such a point that I made a decision to cancel my card. Completely the opposite to what I intended to do in the first place.
What it's even more frustrating was that I did not need to pay any dues, but I had instead a credit in my account. Now I feel completely and utterly frustrated and in a way sad, because I loved Dick's sporting goods stores and frequently visited and purchased sporting equipment from them.
I cant stand Synchrony Bank! What a shame that they took over GE Capital. I was never late on a payment. Because I get paid biweekly I always hold half, then on the next pay I take the other half and make the payment. But this ONE time I said to myself instead of holding the money I will pay what I have then the next check pay the second half. Well they didn't apply the money to my payment due and instead I ended up having to not only pay the whole amount when the due date came I had to pay a late fee that wasnt late and an overlimit fee. They really screwed me up. I am seriously thinking about filing a complaint. I called and they stated that they had applied that half payment to my first billing cycle. Why would they do that when my first billing cycle was paid in full. Headaches already. I do not recommend this bank and I cannot wait to get out of the debt that I owe them!
Opened a savings account in April/2014. I used a promotional code that gave me $50 for opening this account after 90 days and deposited $10,000. The bonus $50 was to be applied after 90 days of the account being opened. After 120 days the promotional $50 had still not been applied. I called and had to investigate why. It took a few phone calls and waiting a day, and finally my promotion was applied. I asked for $100 because of their error and was told NO, I could only get what was originally offered. I don't think a company of this magnitude should be making these types of "errors". I should not have followed up with them. Not happy.
I have called synchrony bank every month regarding my account since January. They double charged my account by $3,000 and have not been able to resolve the dispute. Every month I call and am promised this outstanding issue is resolved and bounced around to each representative or supervisor. No one has been able to comprehend what the last had done, or tells me they have to wait until the next billing cycle. I am very unleashed with their customer service and lack of follow through.
The excerpted statement below was exactly happened to me. My promotional offer expired in Dec 2014; although, I am proactively paying ahead of due dates. My remaining balanced got a whooping amount of $777 to $800 balance. I called customer service and she could not explain a jack nothing but a "your promotional offer expired". I surely did ask where was the amount based from (basis). This was a NIGHTMARE! No business ethics at all...I just told myself that I lost in a gambling casino in Vegas just not to be hard on myself. It was a sickening experience as this SICK-hrony bank treat its customers. I would warn all my colleagues and friends esp. military spouses in my circle about this bank. Hopefully, our government obtain the reimbursement/settlement annotated below.
According to a press release issued by the United States Department of Justice on June 19, 2014, "The Department of Justice and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) today announced a settlement to resolve allegations that GE Capital Retail Bank, known as of this month as Synchrony Bank, engaged in a nationwide pattern or practice of discrimination by excluding Hispanic borrowers from two of its credit card debt-repayment programs. The settlement resolves claims by the department and the CFPB that GE Capital violated the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) by excluding borrowers who indicated that they preferred communications to be in Spanish or had a mailing address in Puerto Rico from two credit card debt-repayment programs.""The settlement provides $169 million in relief to approximately 108,000 borrowers in the form of monetary payments and the reduction, or complete waiver, of borrowers' credit card balances. GE Capital itself identified and reported the discrimination to the CFPB, was proactive in taking steps toward providing relief to affected borrowers, and has worked closely with the department and the CFPB to further identify and compensate victims of the discrimination. Specifically, GE Capital has already provided the benefits of the offers or their equivalent value to approximately 84,000 borrowers, totaling $131.8 million in relief. Following the settlement, the bank will provide the remaining $37 million in payments, reductions and waivers to affected borrowers."The Department of Justice press release also states, "GE Capital's settlement with the department, which is subject to court approval, was filed today in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah in conjunction with the department's complaint. GE Capital resolved the CFPB's claims by entering into a public administrative settlement.""In addition to the $169 million dollars in relief, GE Capital has also agreed to eliminate negative credit reports for affected borrowers that occurred during periods of the alleged discrimination. GE Capital will also take affirmative steps to strengthen its fair lending compliance, and the department commends the efforts the bank has already taken to that end. These steps put in place strong review mechanisms and training to ensure borrowers are not discriminated against because of their national origin."Further information is pending a response to your Revdex.com's request on June 24, 2014 for a written statement from GE Capital Retail Bank (Synchrony Bank as of June 2, 2014).
We opened a line of credit account to have carpeting put in our house. We were offered 12 months of 0% financing. Great. My first bill was for the entire amount of credit we were approved for, and not what we actually spent. I contacted the retailer [redacted] and they rectified that problem. When I received the second bill, I tried to register online so I could manage my account. After entering all my information, and having Syncrony acknowledge I was a customer, I was not able to create the online account with them. There was a system error message. I called, went through their awful automated system and finally got someone in India. While they were very polite, they were not able to resolve the issue. I have since tried several times to no avail and I have spoken to many a polite CSR, who are useless. I have had to call to pay my bill via the telephone for the past 5 months. This is ridiculous. Obviously this is an effort to have late payment charges, and to be able to charge the interest I was supposed to be free of for 12 months. Steer clear of this bank.
on one of my accounts, I was paying it off. I used the automated phone service. I gave all the information required to make the payment. after giving the bank routing number and bank account number, these numbers were read back to me to verify the information and then I was given a conformation number. later I received a letter stating my payment was past due. I called them to ask what happened. they would not listen to any thing I had to say they said it was my fault or the banks fault. I gave them the same bank information and paid off my account. they closed my account. now I have a negative remark on my credit report. I have been working to improve my credit report. thru credit counseling I closed three other accounts with synchrony. I missed a payment that I thought credit counseling had paid. when I realized the mistake I made the payment. synchrony reported these three accounts on my credit report as derogatory. this means that information will remain on my report for 7 to 10 years.my payment history has been excelent up to this point. this could effect me if I tried to make a major purchase. I asked them to remove it, but they would not. it 's almost like I am being punished for paying these accounts off.
