If I wanted to stay in a 4-star hotel, I could have had a larger room in a more convenient location at a cheaper price than what Priceline is charging. I have been ripped off by this consumer fraud, and that Priceline repeatedly lies to say that this is a 4.5 star hotel instead of addressing the problem is symptomatic. They have refused to address my complaint and simply repeat the same form response. It is not acceptable and I want my money back.

Honestly, I wasn't sure whether to file a complaint or put up a review. I am very disappointed with my experience with Priceline. I put in a "name your own price" bid for a hotel in [redacted] today for a 5 star hotel. I thought that I would give it one try and put in a price that I thought I would overjoyed to get for a 5 star not really thinking that anything would come of it because all of the 5 star hotels in central [redacted] are WAY more than I bid for. I wanted something close to everything so picked central [redacted] from the map provided for my bid. Imagine my surprise, when my bid was accepted for a 5 star hotel!! Unfortunately, the hotel that I won the bid for was 1. Not a five star hotel, based on reviews on Priceline's own website and 2. Not in central [redacted] and the worst 3. More expensive than booking directly on Priceline's own website! I believe the mix up on the rating is that the hotel ([redacted]) used to be a [redacted] hotel which may have been considered a 5 star back when they were in operation but now that they were sold to another company, it seems that the service has gone way down.
I called customer service and expressed my concerns and was told that I could not get a refund. I explained concerns and disappointment multiple times and eventually asked for a manager or supervisor. I was on hold quite a long time and was transferred to Alex. I immediately asked if he was a supervisor or manager and was told no. Alex basically told me the same information that the previous woman told me but when I brought up the fact that the hotel is even more than listed on Priceline's own website he volunteered doing a "price match" for me those that he didn't seem excited about doing it. I explained about it not being a 5 star even based on other Priceline customers reviews but was told that he was sure that I would not be disappointed. I wonder if Priceline or their partner [redacted] even read the reviews. Just because a hotel was once a 5 star, it might be beneficial to read your own customers reviews and reevaluate!
I asked to speak to a Supervisor again and was transferred after another long wait to a woman who claimed that she was. I again explained my concerns but was given the same reasons for not being able to cancel. I finally asked for the price match because she claimed that was all she could do. She called the hotel in [redacted] to see if breakfast was included (I asked if the rate included breakfast) and I was told that the hotel said "no". She told me that I would get an email confirming my refund along with a coupon for my next reservation. That's funny since as you can imagine, I will not be booking anything else with them ever again.
I feel sorry for the customer service people at Priceline because I'm sure they get a lot of unhappy customers. I know that it's not their fault and I admit I was probably not the nicest person on the phone because I kept repeating myself and interrupting them.
I did pick the "name your own" price option that clearly states that the rates are non refundable however I do not feel as though Priceline gave me the product that I bid on. I guess I'll have to chalk this up to a lesson learned and simply leave the hotel and go elsewhere if I don't feel I can deal with it. Really disappointing as I may never make it back [redacted] and was really looking forward to enjoying my hotel stay as well as the city.

Priceline.com is a travel agent, and as such, offers a variety of travel services and airfares with specific fare rules and restrictions on behalf of the airlines, which are communicated prior to purchase. The consumer visited the Priceline Published Price web site and selected a [redacted] flight itinerary from a list of disclosed airlines, airfares, and flight schedules. The consumer’s purchase is subject to the fare rules and restrictions -change penalties/restrictions apply - as defined by our travel partners, and disclosed prior to purchase on the consumer’s initialed contact page. The consumer’s transaction, therefore, was between him and the airline, which is the merchant of record, and charged the consumer’s credit card account for the airline ticket purchase.

I am rejecting this response because: it is not accurate. My concern is the lack of "good faith" on the part of Priceline. First of all, I purchased this hotel room from [redacted], of which I have been a long-standing member. I was not aware at the time that this was a Priceline hotel purchase (see confirmation note below from [redacted]). The reservation is for graduation weekend at the [redacted], so obviously hotels will be expensive. My issue is that I received a confirmation from the hotel (correspondence copied below) that the room was only $120 per night ($23 difference from what I was given by my [redacted]/Priceline confirmation) , which amounted to a $104 difference. I expected to call [redacted] and get this issue straightened out, but instead I was directed to PRICELINE. At no time did I agree to pay a 20% profit to Priceline for this room. To find out that I was indeed paying a $100 profit to a company (other than [redacted]) was misleading and unfair. I am asking to only pay for the service that was ordered, not an exorbitant usury fee. I believe that Priceline is operating in bad faith.To be clear, once I was told that I could not be given the $104 refund, I asked that the reservation be canceled and I be awarded a full refund for this unfair practice. I was also told this was not possible. If the mistake was not mine, but was made by Priceline--a company with which I was not informed was handling my transaction--I should be given the opportunity to receive a full refund or a refund of the difference in costs. I booked this room in October 2014. This company is making no effort to rectify its own mistake.
