Exposing Crunch Coast to Coast
August 2023
In response to the review (attached at the bottom of this statement)

Well, it seems this is the ongoing racket for this company! I am in Boise, Idaho and I had the same exact thing happen to me. All I wanted was a year's membership at $39.99 a month. At the time of payment I was not given a receipt nor was I able to view an actual transaction of my charges. Because trust me, had I known that I just signed up for 12 sessions with a Trainer, actually, 24 since it was a Double package of 12 sessions. I was apparantly paying half of it during sign up and the balance within 3 months. I figured $480 divided by 2 was a mere $240. I was cool with that. But it turned out to be almost $2,000! And they debited my AmEx $800+ ! I did not get a contract, nor a receipt during the signing on the electronic pad. I trusted it was a straight forward transaction. She said I will get the contract via email. I asked if I could view it first? She said they had no way of providing that. (I should have known better at this point) Anyway, I called to cancel sessions with the Trainer as I was just diagnosed with two upper arm carpel tunnel syndrome and it would be redundant for me to proceed. I get a return email from the GM in an uproar with exclamation points stating what is going on! I signed a contract! Not once did she give me any consoling words of my situation.
A long story short, I called and I wrote corporate that what she did was shady. Told them as far as I was concerned they owed me money or I get 2.5 years of membership for what I had paid. I still get boiled over with my own stupidity of trusting her. We need to break them of this. I want my money back! Double what you were charged and if you can get them to pay you back, please let me know. BTW, one of my customers, after telling him what happened decided to check his CC transaction and sure enough, he also paid more than he thought and was also not given any receipt, etc. I want to expose them.
Funny...she was given an all expense trip for a week to some exotic island as a bonus for her sales..no wonder she was angry with me for canceling. I'm a business woman. A contract is nothing more than a Man made agreement that man can't also undo. Especially under special circumstances as is stated on the contract, fyi. (the possibility of surgery for my carpel tunnel on both hands was pending) I finally got my receipt in the email. Guess what? It says Merchant Copy on the bottom. So why couldn't she had given me MY COPY of the time of the transaction? Also, finally read the entire contract and no where on the paper work did the contract sale include the monthly membership fee "along" with the training sessions. So I never even signed up for membership? Confusing right?
I'm going to fight them on this. Please advise if you go to court. Thank you, M.C

I signed up for crunch fitness in Somerset New Jersey and was pretty happy they opened a gym in the area that offered classes for me to take. I was scheduled for a kickoff secession but had to cancel it due to a death in the family and rescheduled it for the day we returned, January 23. I met with the Trainer, and he explained that I could potently sign up for secessions at $35.00 each for 30 minutes which actually sounded pretty good. By the end of our workout, I had gotten ill and the manager, Terrin, came over to help me. We walked outside at which point I really got sick. After getting it all out, I went to sit in his office and we talked for a few. I had casually mentioned that I was considering signing up for Personal Training it never committed to it. After I felt better, I went out and before I knew it was signing the electronic signature pad for 8, 60 minute personal training secessions and was billed $480.00. After seeing the charge I contacted the gym to cancel the service before beginning and to obtain a refund for it as I was not prepared to pay that amount. It was only then that I was told by and employee named Ethan "oh Personal Training and anything associated with it has a non-refundable fee policy." When I reached out to Terrin, the Manager and explained the situation and told him that if I was made aware of this prior I would have been more conscientious about what I was signing. He then simply said "well it's in the agreement that you signed(which I never saw but was summarized and the non refundable part was conviently left out). But you can move the appointments to month!" I don't want to move them to another month, I simply want my $480 back, and I will continue my membership and no further action will be take. At this point however I am prepared to take legal action as my mother is an attorney and my uncle is a US Congressman in New York, which just so happens to be where the corporate office is located. So I have access to all the legal and political assets to take a $480 refund very far if need be.

If I could simply get my $480 for services that were NEVER rendered then this ends there. But if not, my family and I are prepared to go further with this as information was withheld and is not present on the organizations website, nor is a refund policy clearly stated or displayed for patrons to see. I am hoping that someone from the corporate office can rectify the situation and give me my $480 back so it doesn't go further, but we are very much prepared to do so.

Multiple charges for Multiple accounts and I have never had a membership
I had used Crunch Fitness streaming month to month content in the past and my last month of streaming was February 2020. Starting in October 2021 I started receiving emails from billing Support at Crunch.com for two separate account numbers both for $68.95 saying they have made multiple attempts to reach me to resolve my past due balance. I never had a single membership account let alone two and refused to pay. Skip to February 2021 and I am receiving emails stating that my recent membership payment was declined and on the same two account numbers they emailed about in October I owed $115.32. I never had a membership and they never had a card number to charge so I ignored it. March 2021 I received emails regarding the same two account numbers but the emails now stated they have made multiple attempts to rectify my outstanding balance of $145.27. I responded that they need to provide a contract signed by me and a id member card with my photo (which does not exist) otherwise they are illegally trying to obtain payment on a phoney debt and harassing me. They did not respond but instead sent me to their in home collection agency. I have responded to them this is not a valid debt, I have filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and contacted my attorney. In the process of me doing this billing support for Crunch.com sent me another set of emails on May 6th 2021 regarding the same two account numbers stating they have made multiple attempts to reach me to resolve my past due balance of $29.95 on each account. For the non existant membership I have it sure is funny how the amount I supposedly owe on these false accounts keeps changing. It is very apparent that your company is trying to steal money from people and I will use all avenues to expose you and legal ways to make you pay for your harassment and fraudulent billing attempts.

*** Crunch Garden Grove, CA -NEEDS NEW MANAGEMENT ***

If you consider joining this gym, just get the basic membership.

The evening Hiit classes listed on their website are always cancelled (without notice) while the current coaches that are certified to teach stand around talking.
The gym owner should evaluate the drop of check ins. Mon, Wednesday and Friday curriculum are not meeting consumer fitness needs. The coaches are great with an explosive intense program however the members are not happy with it. It has been brought to their attention yet still no change. Maybe they can communicate with the evening Tuesday and Wednesday coach for suggestions, improvements.
There has been incidents where 1 to 2 members will show up for a class and no coach in sight to teach due to the small amount of members checked in.

In observance, the current staff in the training area at Crunch Garden Grove, CA are definitely not customer nor team oriented. It takes one rotten apple to spoil the rest. I feel the newer current management team lack leadership skills and common sense with managing current staff.

They do no consider member complaints nor suggestions on improvement. The vibe and energy has changed drastically. Eventually all members will be downgrading their membership to the basic or cancelling.

On a positive note, the reception do a great job. They greet people, they have vibrant energy. They've done an outstanding job throughout the pandemic handling capacity and maintaining the gym clean.

Membership fees
My daughter signed up for a membership thinking it was just $9.95. She wanted me to sign up as well. This is how we get to spend some quality time together. Once looking at the membership fees $52.99. No way! ridiculous fee. I'll stick with LA fitness and their poor facility. In the future, Please make sure you show this in BOLD print. SMH

I'm here writing a 2nd complaint about the same issue because Crunch Fitness lied to me when they said they would refund me my moneyFrom my first complaint: "I signed up with Crunch Fitness in Huntington Beach at their location on 6/13/I chose the year contract for $a monthI read and understood the contract prior to signing itI was very aware of the day buyer's right to cancel windowThe contract explicitly says, """You, the buyer, may cancel this agreement at any time prior to midnight of the fifth business day after the date of this agreement, excluding Sundays and holidaysTo cancel this agreement, mail or deliver a signed and dated notice, or send a telegram which states that you, the buyer, are canceling this agreement, or words of similar effectSuch notice shall be sent to Crunch H [redacted] or by email to [redacted] Date this contract was signed: ____0_6_/1_3_/_2_0_1_6_____You are entitled to receive your REFUND within days of receipt of notice of cancellation, less payment for any health club services rendered prior to such cancellation.""" Wtf??? You're having us sign a contract and your staff doesn't even know what it says? They have to abide by that contract and they don't know what it entailsNo wonder this gym sucks and can't seem to credit back my money

Crunch Fitness put out advertisements in car doors/on windows at some point during my nightshiftI came outside to a paper ad that stuck to my window like a sticker, and when peeled off, left a white imprint on the outside of my car, and a very visible font and picture when viewed from the inside of my carI contacted the manager who had nothing useful to say to resolve this issue, nor did he offer an apology

Good Afternoon, Our GM reached out to this member and they came to an agreement and the matter has be resolvedThank you
