Peter A. Haigh, Inc. Reviews (125)

The 2010 Volkswagen Passat that we purchased from Dixie Motors, has had a host of ongoing problems some of which has gone on since our first complaint to the Cincinnati Revdex.com in 2016. OIL: For the last 6 months or so, we have had to fill the oil tank on a weekly based as it leaks just as often as...

we top up. When Eric and I took it to the mechanic, we were advised that there was a leakage in the tank itself that would have to be repaired at cost. We would always arrive at a destination in the vehicle and pull out a highly heated key which we figured would not happen once we had put more oil in the reservoir. We decided to call Dixie Motors again to request a copy of the warranty which they promised us at the time of purchase (as well as a $100 gas card for the trouble of having to drive from Indianapolis on three separate occasions to pick up the car which we would only arrive to find out, was not quite ready to drive back to Indiana. COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE: Recently, we were on the highway when we noticed steam billowing out from the hood. We checked and it app[redacted]ed the anti-freeze coolant needed to be topped up since it was far below the minimum line. The dashboard also indicated a the need so we did. Within a day or so, while driving, the same steaming problem seemed to occur again. The blinking signal showed on the dashboard and we took it to a Volkswagen dealership where we l[redacted]ned that the pipe carrying the coolant back and forth beneath the car, had cracked/burst in different places and therefore could no longer hold any fluid. We were advised that the extent of the problem had caused the engine itself to give and therefore would quite possibly need an entirely new engine. ELECTRICAL & OTHER ONGOING PROBLEMS: We have had to replace worn tires in the last couple of months. One tire has a large bulge/bubble on it that posed a risk which we had not seen until a mechanic noticed. The headlights have not worked since we bought the vehicle and have only relied on the fog lights and fancy strip of lead lights that we were informed was put there by the last owner after he purchased it. The horns do not work and therefore makes it impossible for us to alert another driver if we were in their blind spot and they were within inches of hitting us (which has occurred more than once.) The radio has not worked since day one and was one of the promises make to us by Dixie Motors that would be covered by warranty and could be fixed by the dealership. Lastly, the trunk will not open unless my son climbs into the trunk through the back seat and pulls to release the latch and open the trunk. Since we had been promised a one y[redacted] warranty before and had not as yet received it almost one y[redacted] after the purchase of the vehicle, we contacted them again and have had no luck speaking with anyone there at Dixie Motors. The vehicle is un-drivable and has cost several hundreds of dollars simply getting it to run on a daily basis. The promise to give us a warranty has not materialized. We made direct complaints to Dixie Motors immediately after we took possession of the vehicle. To date, there has been no such warranty received from Dixie Motors and efforts at contacting either our sales person, [redacted] or his manager [redacted] have been impossible at best. Our goal is to be mobile and in a safe, reliable vehicle. We are both employed and must be at work each day. We have kids who are enrolled in extra-curricular activities that cannot be reached without transportation. Frankly, with this many problems, we would prefer to give the car back for a full refund of our deposit of $1000 in March 2016, at the time of our purchase. Any assistance in this regard will be much appreciated. Again, thank you for our time and attention. [redacted]

My wife faxed a copy of the invoice a few days ago.  I'm just making sure you received it and also wondering what the next step is

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I had trouble the first day that the car was purchased. The dealership agreed to fix the vehicle problems ans did not do so. I gave the dealership 2,500 dollars. The car did not run properly after signing for the vehicle . Nevertheless my electronic signing was signed by Michael l[redacted] a car salesman and not myself . I have pictures to prove as well as recorded videos throughout the whole dealing with the dealership . I have Dixie imports attempting to fix the vehicle , I have documentation of Dixie imports keeping my vehicle for 3 months and returning the vehicle in the same condition . Dixie import has taken numerous of buyers money the crooked way and has also failed the consumer sales law . This issue has not been resolved and I would like to be opted out of this 13,000 car loan when the car didn’t hold up the first week of signing . There is also a lady that worked with Dixie imports that admitted that the company does dirty business and has taken a bunch of peoples money by selling bad cars. I have proof for everything that they have done wrong . The car gave me trouble the same day I got it after they agreed to fix all the problems with the vehicle . Regards,[redacted]

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.] I am not accepting their proposal because I was reassured that my warranty would cover the service on my car which is why I even purchased the care with the engine light on; and now they are just giving me the same message saying they are waiting on the warranty company and I am getting charged storage fees along with having to get a 2 week rental.

Once again we do apologize however please keep in mind that you purchased a vehicle as is and denied any further warranty. Please call the manager Earl B[redacted] for any further question. Thanks,Dixie Imports

We appreciate your concerns. However, this is between the customer and the warranty company, furthermore the name accompanying the complaint does not appear in our system, for a purchas. If this is not the correct name, please forward it to us, so we can potentially assist the customer.

Thank you for your concerns. This account is not exactly what transpired. The customer failed to honor thier end of the contract which resulted in us repossessing the Mountianeer. The customer became extremely belligerent, called the police, who had to ask her to leave. We work hard to provide a...

positive selling atmosphere, and strive to give great customer service. Unfortunately we cannot please everyone.

CUSTOMER HAS GOT INVOLVED WITH ATTORNEY, WE HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG TO THIS CUSTOMER, THEY BOUGHT A USED CAR AS-IS. THANKS

I really am sorry that you feel that way but do hope in the future you will give me a chance to show you how I am all about Customer satisfaction. Thanks again

The response was 19 months after I submitted my complaint. I got rid of the vehicle 8 months ago and purchased a new one. I will never buy from them again, nor will I recommend them to anyone. Although they have a new person working there now, this does not change my mind about the way they conducted business with me.

Revdex.com:
I reject their response because I was specifically told that my warranty would fix it and Earle B[redacted] said he wouldn't fix it because it's an expensive job; he guaranteed that it would be covered but to wait 30 days before I call it in. The VEHICLE was sold to me with the check engine light on and I told him that I have a daughter and I can't take a vehicle unsafe and he states that he would fix it but it's too much just go to the warranty company but wait 30 days or they will think it's PRE EXISTING

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. This response is not accepted. Earl is not returning phone calls for days to a week, promising that you are going to try to solve this matter and then requesting we call you and then we have to wait almost a week to have a return call or no call at all? Only to hear that he is still waiting. No warranty that you are promising to try and get us due to the issues that have arose takes this long to figure out. This matter is far from resolved and we will not be removing negative reviews per your request until some resolution has been reached.

Thank you for your response. We do want you to know how deeply we are sorry about this matter. Unfortunately once you purchased the vehicle and did not accept the warranty we are not obligated to the vehicle as it was purchased as is. When purchasing any used vehicle keep in mind there may be things that you need to replace to keep the car running as you would like and need. We hope everything works out for you.Best WishesDixie Imports

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response.  If you wish, you may update it before sending it.  If you and the business have reached an agreement and compliance is set for a future date, we trust the business will comply.  Please contact us after that time if the matter is not resolved as agreed and we will review the complaint and proceed accordingly.]
Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is no longer needed as I traded the car in to a dealership losing 3,800 dollars in the process.  If the business want to make amends they cans mail me a check for $3,800.  Other then that I guess I lose as a consumer in the battle for fair treatment.
