I was contacted over the phone and set an appointment for an estimate on 06/08/2023.
Kyle was the rep who showed up. Gave a great presentation, and took all the measurements of my house.
We discussed options, and he gave me a quote for all my fascia board getting replaced, and all new gutters.
It was 328’ of fascia and 400+ off gutters. With Leaf filters installed, it was close to $15,000. $7000 of that price was the cost of the fascia.
I declined the leaf filter and just wanted gutters and fascia done. He came back with a price of around $11,000…. But if I chose to get it done in the next 2 weeks, he could do it for $8500.
I agreed. I signed the installation contract.
He checked with the install group, and he had me scheduled for Monday 06/12/2023. He said he would notify me of the installation time in the next few days.
Kyle texted me at 5:12pm on Saturday and confirmed the start date of the installation would be 06/12/2023. He said it would take 2-3 days, due to the fascia replacement.
Great. I took off work on Monday, so I could be home for the installation…As required by Kyle. I rescheduled all other activities that were on Monday and moved them to Friday.
06/12/2023 – I contact Kyle @ 10:44am, because the install crew had not shown up, or called…..He said he was with a client and would get me an eta. I waited till 12:00, and still no response from Kyle.
I called the 800 number listed on the contract, to get an ETA on the crew. The lady on the phone told me she had the install contract, but had NO install date listed on it…..I was very frustrated….She said the next available day would be Friday… I took it because I needed new gutters. My wife now had to change her schedule, so she could be home on Friday for the installation. I could not be there, because I now had a full day of work scheduled on Friday.
06/14/2023 – Tuesday @ 1:12pm. Leo from Leaf Filter contacts me and confirms my install date. He also asked why I wanted all my fascia replaced. He said I probably didn’t need it all replaced. I told him I had a few rotted-out corners, and some rot along my dormers. I asked if he could come by on Thursday (06/16/2023) to look at my fascia. He said he would stop by Thursday, afternoon/evening time, to make sure I am getting what I need.
06/16/2023 – No Leo. No one shows up to look at the house.
06/17/2023 – 8:00 am. Maldonado Gutters shows up to install the gutters and replace my fascia. Apparently Leaf Filter contracts with other gutter companies, to install their stuff…..Kyle NEVER said anything about that.
Jose asks me about replacing all the fascia… He talked to Leo, and we agreed to replace the fascia that they feel needs to be replaced. They won’t really know how much fascia to replace until they pull off all the gutters. Jose also asked about Down Spouts. I initially declined downspouts, but Jose said my current downspouts were not in good shape, and wouldn’t match up to the new gutters. I told him to replace the downspouts also.
I asked about getting an updated price/contract, he mentioned Leo handles that. No contact with Leo/Kyle, or anyone from Leaf Filter about these changes..
I left @ 9:30am, to go to work.
5:23pm – I get a phone call from my Wife. She said the gutters people are done, and they want to get paid. I asked her to walk around and make sure the work was done. She told me they replaced all the gutters and downspouts….But they didn’t replace much Fascia. I asked her how much fascia. She talked with Maldonado Gutter guys, and they said they replaced 32’ of 2”x6” fascia, and 32’ of 1”x3” fascia. Total of 64’ of fascia.
Ok. I then asked how much do we owe them? Maldonado Gutters said we owed them the contract price of $8500….and to make the check out to Maldonado Gutters… I said, “ABSOLUTELY NOT!”
The original contract had 328’ of fascia, which was 70% of the cost of the contract. Since we cut 80% of Fascia, figured the price would drop by a lot. I didn’t get an official quote on the repairs before they started, because he could not give me a quote.
Maldonado Gutters contacted someone at Leaf Filter, and I got a call from Kyle @ 5:51pm. He told me we needed to pay the contract price. I said NO. I told him the contract had 328’ of fascia, and only 64’ was replaced. I told him I needed a revised invoice, with the work that was actually completed. He asked if I could just pay the contract price, and work out the pricing stuff later. I said, “ABSOLUTELY NOT”. What kind of scam is he running? Kyle wants me to pay for work that was NOT done, and try to get my money back later. He asked me why the job changed from the original contract. I told him Leo, from Leaf Filter, contacted me. I told him Leo prompted me to not change all my fascia. Kyle was upset, and told me all changes were supposed to go through him…..I told him I did contact him on Monday, and he never called me back.. I also told him, Leo, from Leaf Filter, recommended I don’t’ replace all the fascia. Leo never said anything about needing a new contract, or revised pricing….
I told Kyle I needed an invoice, with the breakdown of the work completed. He said he couldn’t do that, he would just give a new Price, but no explanation of the costs. He also said he was on the road, and couldn’t get me the revised pricing until tomorrow. I told him I would pay him when I get the revised invoice….Whatever day that is.. He said he would contact the install crew, and try and get an invoice generated.
6:03pm – Kyle texted me a new price for the install stuff. $7549.00.
I just finished working for the day, and I was heading home from Round Rock.
6:34pm – Leo, from Leaf Filter, calls me. He told me I needed to pay the install crew, so they could go to their next job. I told him I needed an invoice, with the breakdown of the costs for the installation….The numbers Kyle texted me did NOT add up. Leo told me I would not get a new invoice or contract, just a price. I told him I would NOT pay Leaf Filter until I received an updated contract with the pricing for the work that was completed. He got angry. He said I would have to work out payment with Kyle, and then Leo hung up on me.
7:30pm – I got home, and inspected the project. The gutters looked great.
7:39pm – Kyle texted me a screenshot of the final price. $8882. More than the original price, and with a lot less fascia. That is also more than the price he quoted me 1.5 hours earlier, via text.
7:48pm – Kyle called me. He told me a representative from Leaf Filter would come to my House on Monday, and go over all the pricing. I told him that would work, and I would pay for the gutters at that time.
Monday 06/19/2023 – 1:54pm – Leo called, and said he would like to come to my house and discuss the payment this week. He was told to set up an appointment, anytime after Monday….. Of course, Kyle told me they would be at my House Monday afternoon….
Wednesday 06/21/2023 – 10:37 – Leo called and said he is in traffic, but on his way to my house.
12:00 - Sat down with Leo….Expressed my frustration, and how pissed off I was. We settled on a Price of $6400….and parted ways. The Gutters installed by Maldonado Gutters are great. They have already been through 3 torrential downpours, and performed flawlessly.
Summary: Gutters = Good, Leaf Filter the Company = Horrible.

This has been a nightmare from day one which still continues. With this company the customer is always wrong it seems. We where blindsided and not informed about the product or the prices or other options to choose from. This is the first and last written communication we had whit LeafFilter without a resolution:

Service Issues X
On May/18/23 your salesperson who was not very informative about the product, presented me a folder
demonstrating the product that was going to be installed and included the filters. On May/26/23 the
gutters where installed. Upon the completion I notice that the filter where not installed. This feature was my main interest on this product. I have made several attempts to resolve this issue and I have not received any response. I'm asking for the missing filter been install. Thank you for the assistance in this matter.
Respectfully

Hello Mr. Ryan. I hope everyone there is well. My wife and I don't feel good because of this bad treatment you and others have given us. The day they installed the gutters we noticed that they did not have the filters we bought. It was never discussed with the seller or in the contract that the filters would not be installed. That same day we contacted the seller who treated us arrogantly and asked us for more money for the filters.
We talk to the seller and you and ask you to cancel the business even though we put a down payment. You said they were going to remove the gutters and we agreed to remove them. For that you said you would call a manager to coordinate the process. To this day no one has called us. Suddenly we received your letter informing us that you and Leaf filter apparently want to sue us? This is what you wrote: "Please respond within three days to avoid further action".
To this day we do not know the price of linear foot, or how many feet were installed? Apparently to me that you are taking advantage of the fact that we are sick senior citizens and want to crush us.
The commitment you made was that they will remove the gutters and we agreed, when are they going to remove them? Thank you.
Respectfully
Harold Santiago. 61123

We recently moved to Florida and my husband looked up 3 gutter places for quotes. A woman came over and did an estimate for us. Her name was Julie Huynh. She was a sales gal for the company. She was very nice and very knowledgeable about the product. My husband asked for her "BEST PRICE". She quoted us $20,000.00 on a one story 2300 square foot home. We just about died! That was way out of our budget. When she realized our shock, she threw in an AARP discount knocking 10% off. Then another discount knocking another 5%. Anyway, long story short, she reduced the price 3 times! We still said no, she got on phone with manager and asked for a "special discount", and said if we did this today she could go even lower. We were not ready to do today, and told her that. She got even more pushy and said well I can't guarantee price if no contract today. My husband asked her to just estimate front. While she was out there I called a friend in same neighborhood who did this last year for 6500.00. She wanted to know who they were and what street on, we did not give that information. At this point she was ready to match that price ! On the front she estimated 4915. then dropped to 3915, for roughly 80 ft of gutter. She was the most unprofessional pushy sales person I ever met! And who starts at 20,000 and ends at 6500? What a horrible way to do business! Today we are having whole house done for a bit over 2000.00. Get other estimates before you go with Leaf filter! Other companies do the same type of work for way less! They should not be in business!
"Still too high" resulted in another 25% since it was spring and before the busy season. I told him no, but would think about it and he started to leave, BUT he forgot to call his boss. After explaining my objection was purely price, a miracle occurred! A big commercial job was going on in the area and mine would be extended the volume pricing, if I installed in the next 4 days. (So the final offered price was 30% of the initial quote)
I told him to leave as I wouldn't do business with a company like that. I suspect the life time warranty would be a bear to get fixed.. I had GutterGlove Leaf Blaster Pro installed at 18% of the original Leaf Filter offer
I replaced my roof only to find out that Leaf Filter did not fully install all of my filters on my home that was purchased. I also found out that the improper install of the system left my wood behind my gutters exposed for 2 years making it the wood giving access to rodents. Purchasing this junk has cost me over $20,000 and I am still doing repairs from the damage the rodents have caused please save yourself the trouble and do not use this company once they get your money and have you owning a finance company they do not care.
My neighbor was looking out for another neighbor and asked if he could do his for the same amount. The installer agreed and so did the 2nd neighbor. WTF. I didn't report it, because my neighbors are friends, and the installer was just hustling upside money. Good for them. I'm the sucker.
The install went smoothly, and he took care of my neighbors homes the next weekend.
I never went onto the roof to inspect his work. I felt I didn't need to with their claimed lifetime no hassle warranty. During the first rainstorm I had to go up on the roof to see what was going on. I had rain shooting off of my valleys like hydro tubes at a water park. There was a section of LeafFilter that was missed and not installed at one of the dormers as well. I called LeafFilter and after a few weeks they finally sent an installer to add valley diverters that were not initially installed and installed the missing section of LeafFilter at the dormer.
The next rainstorm and it was the same. I let it go for some time. The LeafFilter does not self-clean like the salesman's demonstration showed. The Douglas fir needles will cover the whole length of the filter, and you have to get onto the roof to blow off said needles. Good luck getting LeafFilter to come and clean them as promised.
Wait a minute. I got these so that I won't have to get on the roof ever again. Another claim LeafFilter makes.
Finally, we had enough. We wanted our money back. After going back and forth with them for weeks, to months, they sent another installer to inspect how the installation. The installer, (which by the way are subcontracted by LeafFilterm and wants the job so he gets paid) convinced LeafFilter that the LeafFilter product was installed incorrectly so the reluctantly okayed him to remove all of the product and re-install it. There is literally no difference between how it was and how it is now, except the installer did away with the valley diverters. He said they were unnecessary and that they can cause rainwater to run back under the roof shingles potentially causing damage.
Here we go. We gave it another try. With regular rains, sheets of water are again coming off the valleys. The other night we had a monsoon type rainstorm. The LeafFilter is once again plugged with Douglas Fir needles and the valleys don't have diverters, so all the rainwater shed off of the roof and flowed down the sides of our home where it pooled into a foundation well until it reached the foundation vent and buckets of water made it into my deep crawl space where we have built a storage room. I had to remove buckets of water from under the floor in my crawl space.
At this point LeafFilter ghosting us. Due to the potential of our foundation being undermined and damaged, we must remove this product and go in another direction and seek a refund through legal action most likely.
Stay away from these guys. There are better products out there. You are going to get what you pay for though.
I would love to submit videos, but for some reason I'm unable to ): I've only got a couple of pictures.
1. They're plastic-framed. They'll melt and capture embers.
2. The fine metal mesh catches dust and grit and plugs up the entire gutter, which then stops functioning.
3. They're flat, no slope, and water runoff cannot clean them "naturally".
Horrible decision, I could kick myself. I'm not normally that susceptible to "slick" sales tactics, but this guy was really good and he tricked me.
