I have been a member with LA Fitness since 2012, payed my membership on time regardless of of my gym attendance. unfortunately fell into some hard times in the last 3 months, called LA fitness to pay for lost time (Balance was 60.00 with out late fees)after 4 years of non late payments. payed 32.00 out of the 60.00 to ensure the reinstatement of my monthly dues and considering I have been loyal to the company and fulfilled my contract, I would think that they would extend a first time courtesy and allow me a to continue with the membership or start a new membership with the same monthly payments, But they declined, the agent made it seem like loosing my business was no big deal, that the system is what it is? That makes no sense, why would a business prefer to loose more years of business for a 32.00 balance, in which I was willing to pay for to continue with the membership? I even expressed to the associate, that this negative review would take place and it didn't even matter to her. She didn’t even offer an opportunity to speak with her leaders to see if something could be resolved. She just kept saying that the system doesn’t allow me. Where is the customer service and the loyalty to the loyal customers? I called 949-255-7200 at 8:14pm on 11/29.
Unprofessional CROOKS, General Manager Dan O is an incompetent, sg bully who humiliated my sister and resorted to calling the security guard to escort her out after refusing her service (VIP pass).
I am NEVER going to have a LA Fitness Membership ever again nor recommend them to anyone. Ask anyone, their sales team is pushy and rude. Their managers are dimwitted and unhelpful.
DON'T BOTHER signing up with these guys. They'll try to con you and make things like guess passes and VIP passes a living hell for you. They will annoyingly, relentlessly call and harass everyone you add to your VIP list or "referral list."
I added my sister to my VIP list in July 2016 and she never got around to using it. When I re-added her in October 2016 and she tried to use either VIP pass, they denied her and rudely yelled at her. They told her "if you're not interested in getting a membership, YOU ARE WASTING OUR TIME."
We have email proof stating the policy on VIP passes. "A 14 day VIP Guest Pass is attached to this email. Please bring the attachment to the club and allow us to show you the club and activate your complimentary 14 consecutive day pass."
The website ALSO explicitly states that "Each of your VIP guests will receive 14 consecutive days of club usage from the date of their first visit to use the club and work out as many time as they want during that period... Limit one guest pass per person every six months."
My sister never got around to visiting the club nor activating the pass in July at all. She has never activated any guest pass before.
When she tried to finally activate her VIP pass, the [redacted] General Manager, Dan O gave multiple excuses as to why she couldn't use it. First he said that she had already activated it but she never did. There's no proof that she ever came in, registered, nor signed the liability form. Then he said that my account didn't allow for VIP passes. But it did, and it's still a feature from my mobile app too. Then (third time) he said it was because she can only be issued one every six months. LA Fitness Corporate Member Services confirmed that VIP guess passes should NEVER expire if not activated.
So they lied all three times, claiming she activated it, that my account didn't have VIP passes, and that she couldn't use the unactivated VIP pass from July. WHAT A SCAM. Deceitful and incompetent, they CONTRADICT their own policies.
This is a quote literally from Xander at LA Fitness Corporate Member Services: "We can do whatever we want. We are a private company and we have the right to refuse service to anyone we want." Don't believe me? The conversations are recorded when you call corporate.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND LA FITNESS TO ANYONE.
Unless you want lousy service, empty guest pass promises, stanky locker rooms, outdated equipment, unprofessional managers and pushy sales people...
I am furious. My sister was humiliated twice. I was denied a service that I pay for. The VIP pass never expires and my sister was on my VIP list, brought photo ID and is over 18 years old. LA Fitness management gave us different excuses each time saying it was because she had already activated it, that my account did not have VIP pass privileges, that she needed to be a potential member, otherwise she was wasting their time.
I am deeply saddened that my youngest sister was humiliated and yelled at by the General Manager. I heard his voice to her over the phone. She was crying hysterically over the phone as he brought a security guard to escort her away. She ran to the gym (3 miles) both times. I have been paying for my membership for months and they are denying me a VIP pass that explicitly states that it is only activated AFTER their first visit. I am furious that Member Services at LA Corporate were incredibly unhelpful and equally rude. I spoke to 4 of them, 2 of them hung up on me. Even though the conversations are recorded, they make claims like "we are a private company and we can refuse service to anyone." Instead of following up on the issue, they simply snicker behind my back and leave me hanging and my sister humiliated. For what I've been paying LA Fitness all these months, I don't deserve this kind of treatment. I would appreciate more than just a refund but I want LA Fitness to terminate my account now and refund me 3 months.
I am very disappointed in LA Fitness overall!!! Not only at this location, but Ed one of the members services managers....I went to LA Fitness near my house, and had a evaluation. The rep that worked with me tried to get me to sign up for a plan but I couldn't afford it at the time...She told me that she would call me within a month to see how I was doing and see about signing me up. The month went by but I never heard from her, and then I had an accident where I fell off a ladder....I called the representative and sent her a email about the accident, but I never heard back from them...I couldn't go to the gym so I put my account on hold...When I signed up they told me that if I had to put my account on hold they would charge me $10...They were still charging me $40......After three months or so I went in and talked to one of the managers and explained how I was disappointed in the way the rep handled the situation...The manager apologized and gave me another evaluation for free...I did the evaluation, and again the rep said that I should get a trainer...She quoted me a price and I said that I couldn't afford it...She said that she would drop it down to $100+, but what she didn't tell me was they are going to charge me $100+ twice each month so I am paying almost $300 for a trainer......I lost my job and I sent her a message and she said that I couldn't get out of the contract...I am struggling paying this stupid thing...I haven't seen or heard from my trainer in three weeks, so I went in today didn't see the trainer or the person that signed me up...I went and talked to another representative and he said that they both left and went to another location...Neither one bothered to call me! I called management services and spoke to Ed and explained how upset I was with the location....He acted like he didn't care, and he said that I can't get out of the contract that I would have to pay $800 to get out of the contract!
I've been a member of LA Fitness for five to ten years. I signed up with a big up front and a low yearly cost. I was sort of upset when I discovered there was a better deal available. But I jumped on it and signed my son up with it. Then however that deal never became available again and so I could not get other family members on it. Still waiting for that deal. I was also not too happy to find out I would have to re-enroll and pay everything over again if I wanted to reserve racket ball courts over the phone! Also it appears the front desk is always on the phone calling customers to get them to pay up for the next month or so. Those issues though don't really affect me much compared to the positives. The receptionists and managers know me by name and are always very friendly. The staff is also friendly. (Though they seem to fire the staff on a regular basis.) The swimming pools are good though a spin dryer would be great if they had one. The racketball courts are good. The basketball courts are fine too. I like the people that go to the gym, though there are a few crazies like a bimbo that said to never ever talk to her, kids in the changing area with phones always pointed at people, and religious nut cakes, but they are easy to avoid and give you warnings. Usually the people are friendly to the point you sometimes don't want to go because you don't feel up to smiling and living up to expectations. The LA Fitness' are a huge step up in quality from the hole-in-the-wall smelly 24 Hour Fitness places with fat ladies chewing gum continuously. Though the fellow people there are almost as nice. Basically LA Fitness is a good clean club no matter which one you go to. All the amenities being about the same, ranging from good to the latest fantastic computerized bikes. Oh yes. Class instructors are all very nice. If you are athletic you can usually count on being invited to do things like training outside of the club with others of similar skills by the instructors. I like LA Fitness, especially when compared to 24 Hour Fitness, and highly recommend them. I don't go there very often now because a local gym opened up that is easier to get to.
This company is a nightmare, particularly the Farmindale NY location, the staff is unfriendly, the bathroom is a disgusting mess, and when it is not a disgusting mess then it is so drenched in bleach that you cannot breathe in it. The equipment is mediocre. But that is what I agreed to when signing up, the reason I am reviewing here is because of they way they conduct business. Signing up is comparable to buying from a used car dealer, and when you cancel they WILL CONTINUE TO BILL YOU. Mark my words. Two visits to the gym trying to cancel my membership, three phone calls, and they are still billing me, I had to message a personal friend that works at a different location and ask how to get them to actually cancel my account, which I find requires me to go to the physical location and speak with the operations manager. I have a feeling they will notice this review because they clearly pay attention to the Revdex.com-since LA pays for the "A+ rating" here, how else could this be an A+ with all of the complaints and negative reviews compared to maybe the extremely few positive reviews...
I found the link below interesting and if you are considering LA fitness, or trying to cancel your membership and stop being billed for the club it may be worth a read

In early August I joined La Fitness on Slaughter Lane in Austin, TX, and told the representative that I was joining only because they have a pool and I wanted to take aqua aerobics classes. I was told then that they were aware that a number of ladies had come to their facility from another and that all of us wanted these classes and that they would begin offering these classes in the daytime within a very short time. They said that they were just waiting to hire some instructors and would begin offering the classes. It has now been almost 5 months and no aqua aerobics are being offered in the daytime although there are several instructors who are available and who have completed the hiring process. We have contacted their corporate office and all we get is a response, "We are working on it". I feel that I and the other ladies were enrolled under false pretenses and false advertising.
This experience is regarding the LAFitness club located on 190 Hillside in Cranston, RI. I attended this gym today for the very first time. It was the most disrespectful and egregious experience that I have ever encountered at any business facility!!! My wife and I went to use the pool. We diligently called ahead of time to find out what the dress code was for the pool to ensure we adhered to policy. I have been experiencing depression for some time and wanted to help overcome this by conquering my fear of swimming. First we mentioned to the front desk that it was our first time there. She took our picture and we carried on without knowing where to go next. We found a staff member and asked her to help us find the entrance to the pool. My wife was starting to help me build my confidence by showing me how to float first. There were three lanes and we remained swimming in the first. A neighboring swimmer in he second lane had also been giving us tips to help us swim. He left and two other gym patrons came along and went to the remaining respective lanes. We had been in the pool for about one hour when we were approached by a staff member who stated that, "HER manager advised that we were not allowed to float in the water..patrons are ONLY allowed to swim back and forth." We looked around and saw the pool rules, that DOES not state anything regarding this at all. The neighboring patron, who was just standing there overheard the conversation and was curious that he had not been approached at that very moment due to his lack of swimming back and forth. He stated that he had been attending for some time and was never advised of such a rule and felt that we should converse with the manager. We then asked to speak to the manager (BILL LANGLOIS), who did not introduce himself to us, but told us to go sit at his desk area. He asked what the issue was and we asked why we couldn't float in the pool. He said thats correct, it's for swimming only. We then explained that I had a fear of swimming and my wife was teaching me by building my confidence floating first and swimming as well. Thats when he responded by stating that there were numerous complaints that we were kissing in the pool and engaging in inappropriate behavior. He stated that there were over 600 patrons that attended during our stay in the pool and were all watching us performing these "INAPPROPRIATE ACTS!!!" (we were not) As we stared at him in disbelief he added that he didn't witness anything, he was just a messenger. But when we mentioned that the patron in the lane next to us was not swimming, he said that he had in fact watched him swimming. (did he watch or not?) We were approached by another patron thereafter who witnessed and stated that if we were a heterosexual couple, there would probably have not been an issue at all. The manager did not apologize for the inconvenience and stated he would revoke our membership and call the police department.
First IMPRESSIONS are EVERYTHING. This was a very unwelcoming and disheartening first impression.
after being lied to by sales representative about the terms of my contract, I was met with a ridiculous amount of resistance when it came to canceling my membership. This is a recurring theme in all reviews of LA Fitness across the country. Their cancellation process is ludicrously outdated, and designed to extort more money from unhappy customers.customer service is atrocious, and I have not had any issues positively resolved with the company despite repeated efforts on my part.
I canceled my account with this gym and they preceeded to take money out of my bank account would not refund it to me. When I called I spoke with the manager, I also spoke with customer service and the home office they all stood strong on their word, they would not refund the money. That is stealing, this place is ridiculous and I spoke with five other people now that the same thing happened to them, they are robbing people.
If I could give this place a 0 I would. This place is a joke. Save yourself the headache and money and go elsewhere. Customer service here is garbage along with their newly promoted general manager, Victor "Bueno". I initially signed up with Kristi, who was the previous GM and she informed me that the other reps are constantly ripping customers off! I was so shocked and disgusted by their lack of integrity that I decided to cancel my membership a week later. The staff is inconsiderate and unfriendly, they act like they've never seen another human being before. The male staff members will eye you down and make you feel like a piece of meat. I come to the gym to work out, not feel like a [redacted]! One of them even approached me as I was leaving and asked me for a ride home! Excuse me?! I've escalated my complaints to corporate but nothing has yet to happen. I recently switched over to a cheaper, more generic gym and am so relived I did! This place is a rip-off and not worth the hype whatsoever. Please do yourself a favor and stay away!
This place is TERRIBLE when you try to cancel your membership and you have a personal trainer. You have to cancel them separately. My husband is in the military and preparing for deployment, we cancelled his membership with no problem. Little did we know we had to cancel his personal trainer membership as well. I receive 2 to 3 phone calls, an email a day, and now they've gone further and started texting me. I have never experienced harassment from a business like this. Constantly having to repeat myself over and over, it's ridiculous. DONT JOIN THIS GYM!
Cancelled my membership due to us moving and there is no la fitness where we moved. They continue to charge our card and keep saying we never canceled propery even tho I was given a cancellation receipt. Rip off company.
I have been trying to cancel my membership with la fitness over months now!
they make it VERY hard to customers to cancel their membership!
WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND la fitness to anyone....
I have asked multiple times to cancel my two month contractual window for the $25 guest fee and am always told that ONLY the managers can help me. The managers are unavailable and very rude when they are available and refuse to help me. Today in the Levittown, NY club, they refused to remove the charge saying that the computer was frozen and that corporate was unavailable to help me or call me and that it was my problem to remove the charge. When I stated my legal rights as a consumer, she still would not help me. When I left the LA Fitness Club, a large, built man from the club followed me to my car and threatened me to roll down my window. I refused and he said he was going to "take care of me," and he took down my license plate number. I filed a complaint with the police and am getting a lawyer. Consumers should not have to feel threatened because they make a decision to modify an agreement that they have a right to modify. Their behavior has been downright illegal.
My husband and I joined this gym when we moved to the area in June or July 2014. I began noticing several negative customer service situations. One was witnessing associates gossiping about customers in the front desk in front of me and other customers. I thought that to be very unprofessional. About a year later my husband started to get busier at work and on his MBA program and we "froze" his membership( stopped momentarily paying). So for most of 2015 I was paying for myself and child care without my husband. Starting 2016 a friend of mind tried to join a Gym and I told her to come check LA fitness. That was a horrible experiences. The sales person was very unprofessional. My friend wanted to tour the facility and check the machines. This sales associate took us to a cubicle and began explaining to her the different plans. He kept trying to get her to commit on a plan. My friend told him she had to check with her husband first before picking a plan. He keep trying to get her to sign for something after my friend repeatedly said she had to talk it over with her husband. This salesman asked her at this point if she had ever been to an LA Fitbess before and she said yes. She had been to a difference location a long time ago. Then the salesman told my friend, that he was going to allow her to have a pass to try the gym, but that he should not do it since she had been to another location before. My friend and I just looked at each other in awe because we could bot believe this person. He treated my friend like a thief trying to get a free pass. At that moment we just walked out and told him not to bother even showing her the place. That was on January 25th, 2016. So my friend and I joined another gym and I had to personally cancel LA fitness the next day. They would not do it over the phone and it has to be during business hours. When I was canceling on January 26th, I asked to close all the accounts including my husband's. This associate explained to me that my husband had been canceled a long time ago. I asked reportedly if all the accounts including day care were closed and he said yes. We only had one credit card on file that was deducted monthly the 13 of every month. The issue I currently have with this business is that yesterday 4/15/16 around 4:50 PM, I noticed a charge on my credit card from LA Fitness and I called them to ask about it. I was told that my husband's account was still active and that it was my fault for not canceling. The tone of the person did not seemed to be willing to refund the 3 months I had been paying since January. I was told this after I explained to the associate that the day I cancel my membership I was told me my husband was canceled already. Neither my husband or I have stepped into that place since 01/26/16 and our card has been charched 3 months for services not used, because of a their mistake of not closing my husband's account along with mine. Of course I was told I could not cancel over the phone and that the manager was not in the facility in that moment. Again, I have to personally go there during business hours. I call this stealing and I just can believe they want me to take responsibility for their mistake. Today I am planning to go there with my husband to get this resolved. If they do not refund us February, March and April of this year, I will place a formal complaint with this organization.
Beware of the entrapment into contracts where they can breach their commitments while they hold you to yours. I signed a personal trainer contract paying more for a master trainer. The master trainer quit in June and I continue paying for a master trainer while getting services from a regular trainer brand new hire, not master trainer). The difference is $50.00 per month and they tell me they cant modify the contract to charge the new correct amount. It feels fraudulent but my calls end in a loop with no resolution. They may have trapped me until December overcharging $50. per month for services I'm not receiving but they will NEVER again trap me like this and I will warn everyone I know to beware from their contracts.
Signed up with agreement they would not pressure my handicapped daughter to purchase more services. Two weeks later we were being harassed during daytime operating hours the only way to avoid this to move to nighttime use of the gym. My guess is they were soliciting for business for nighttime use only for non PT clients which is a funding source, but they don't tell you this up front. Ultimately I believe we were baited in for income for Anytime Fitness. I turned in our electronic keys and requested to immediately nullify our contract and gave them three business days to respond, which they ignored the latter. We are currently at a stand off over my request to nullify. Anytime Fitness advertises well, their reps are friendly and the club we used was stocked with well maintained equipment, but their resident PTs hit on us twice, including the owner/franchise manager, the second time they did this making disparaging sexual remarks in the presence of my handicapped daughter. Their LLC status gives them immunity from a walk off, and it's my take they have no regard for their non PT subscribers. So, we fight. They want the money and control of hours of use of the gym, which is fraud. We were offered anytime availability with no discussion verbally or in writing this would change after we signed up. We were also assured there would be no pressure to add services. PASSIVE COERCION INA BUSINESS CONTRACT IS UNDUE INFLUENCE, MISREPRESENTATION AND FRAUD. My impression is Anytime Fitness will retaliate on this complaint.
I have no idea how these pack of thieves could possibly have a A+ rating with the Revdex.com! I guess you can buy your grade because these folks at la fitness are the most skilled con men that you ever saw with your credit card! My wife wan I signed up at 25.00 per month flat rate. Then she signed up for 26 weeks of a personal trainer. She went twice. On the second visit she detached her rotator cuff for which she had surgery. According to her contract she was dismissed due to her injury. Period! They kept billing her credit card for 400 every two weeks. They kept this up and we kept protesting with the bank. We went to sue but they have shell corporations set up all over the place so you can never find a principal. After a couple of years I got a notice in the mail that I was included in a class action suit for exactly what had had happened to us. It happened to a lot of people. Bad company...stay away! P.s. My wife went in the pool and caught a bad nail fungus that took two years to get rid of.
I am deeply saddened at upset at the abysmal customer service of LA Fitness. While in the process of moving out of the state, I called the corporate number to cancel my account. I was told my the employee (a [redacted]) that I needed to either submit a written cancellation request via mail or come in to a location in person. As neither of these are options for me, I asked to speak to a manager. He then put me on hold and when he returned he said a manager would process my cancellation the following Monday, December 28th. I was contacted by a store manager, [redacted], who reiterated that I could not cancel over the phone and she would send me instructions via email. I pleaded with her that I would be away for some time and she said she would put my account on a "freeze" until I returned. I know a "freeze" still involves charges, which I do not want, so I again explain my circumstances. Her response: "If I make an exception for you I would make an exception for everybody and I would be making exceptions all day." Wow. At LA Fitness, the customer comes last, apparently. I am cancelling my credit card so they cannot charge me. Warning: do not sign up for LA fitness, do not give them any CC information. Proceed at your own risk.
For years I have been communicating with the Operations Manager, [redacted]., about the condition of the gym (equipment breakage and free weight area disorganization). I have even spoken with several staff as well as attempted to reach corporate which is almost impossible.
The main issues with the gym/management is the free weight area is always a disaster. Sometimes there seems to be more free weights in the aerobics room then the free weight area. The weight plates are always all over the floor and the dumbbell rack is empty.
Because of the disarray it takes me longer to work out and have even skinned my shins because of all the land mines in the pathways.
I have sent several emails to [redacted] advising of the unsafe conditions and extremely unhappy customers I have interfaced with and all he can say is that corporate wont allow for additional overhead or support. I explained to him that the LA Fitness near the expressway (5 miles down the road) is always need and clean and I am sure they are subjected to the same corporate limitations and demographics. Long story short there is no excuse and he needs to become more of an accountable manager.
Another issue that has been progressively getting worst is the cleanliness of the workout area and locker rooms. When you first enter the lobby it smells like a sewer. As you go in the locker room there is an musty mildew smell. I know it is a men's locker room so there will be other smells but this is 5am and already smells bad. About 6-8 months ago there was a change in cleaning personnel and the new guy I have been witnessing for awhile now and yet to see him clean the bathrooms with any kind of disinfectant. All he does is get paper towels from the machine and wipe areas of the mirror and wipe down the sinks. As this has progressed there has been an increase in odor, roaches and bugs in the shower.
Additionally there is frequent trash left in the lockers and sticky residue on the work out floor.
I did an experiment to see how long some powder will last on the floor in the locker room (tile floor) and it stayed there for 3 months. I don't think the floor was ever cleaned but it got worn away. Needless to say I wear flip flops and shoes all over.
I have told [redacted] that I refuse to move since the expectation of their gym is to provide a safe, clean and organized gym. I am also taking the lead to be a voice of all the disappointed members of the morning dedicated work out people. This problem is going to be fixed when [redacted] addresses the systemic breakdown for good, gets removed from his position or an accident occurs and LA Fitness will be sued and the gym will close or change management/ownership.
I suggest any potential customers avoid the gym for now until we can get is straighten up and safe. To all existing members setting for an unclean, unsafe and below expectation manager write reviews and post your issues. The more we get them recognized the more loss of business to the point corporate will have to investigate. In the meantime I will continue to address this as well as find ways into corporate to bring this to light.
