We joined LA Fitness after leaving Lifetime for the cost and the racquetball courtsWe were members of LA Fitness many years ago, but left due to poor childcareThe following is a recap of our experience over the last few months My wife and I found a new gym nearer to our house in May and decided we would joinWhen we re-joined LA Fitness, we paid our first and last month, so when my wife went in to cancel, we knew we still had some time leftShe met with ***, the same gentleman who signed us up, who did what you would expect of a gym and tried to retain herShe fought off his “You’ll never get a better rate” banter and said we already joined another gymAt this point, [redacted] told us we already paid for May, so we would get access to the club until mid-June [redacted] assured us that he would get things taken care of, and we had nothing to worry aboutHe would cancel our membership Now, shame on me, I didn’t realize we were still getting billedThree months later, we racked up ~$in charges that should not have happened [redacted] never canceled the membership At that point, I was willing to chalk it up to an honest mistakeBut after calling the club and working hard to speak to both [redacted] and [redacted] (the GM), I don’t believe it was For those of you considering this club, consider that you will never receive a returned phone call unless you are promising to buy somethingI left multiple messages, and was assured my calls would be returnedAt no time in the last three months has a representative of the gym called meNot a single call Now here’s where it gets interestingThe economy is booming right now, and I can tell this from their apathy towards customersThe staff doesn’t seem to know their co-workers’ schedules or the corporate policiesThe staff was terse and borderline rudeCustomer service is not a priority hereI’m thankful I never bought a training session with one of their trainers as we observed several sessions where a trainer was more interested in his or her phone than the client When I finally got [redacted] on the phone (after trying to reach ***, their GM), I was re-assured it would be canceled and our money would be refunded [redacted] invited me to text him for updates, which he read but never replied to Yes, ***, we can see when you read our textsRead-receipts are fun for all! I did receive the official cancellation, but never got updates on the refund as I was promisedI called and talked to ***, the GMHe said we would be covered Fast forward another weekTexts to [redacted] and messages and calls to [redacted] go unreturnedI finally get him on the phone and he backtracks on everything that was said thus farHe says the best he can do is one month refund, then he says he wants me to meet him halfway and he’ll do two months, then it goes back to oneWhen I suggested calling my bank to have the amount sent back as a chargeback (which costs LA Fitness money), he says that it’s probably better for me to do that At this point, I am a little taken abackI can’t believe I’m talking to the GM of a club when he tells me to go that routeI mean, the club is starting to fall apart with broken mirrors, a long abandoned café, something dead in the wall by the free weights, and machines that are showing their wear, but I wasn’t expecting that the GM of such a club would fishtail so violently on his interpretation of policyWe had an unproductive discussion that I’ll skip, but he tells me to call the corporate number Obviously, the buck does not stop with ***I’m not sure what kind of power a GM has at this club, but it doesn’t appear much higher than the gruff gentleman who assured me I would receive a return phone callMaybe the proper title would be front end manager? Certainly not like any GM I’ve ever met Thankfully, the corporate folks saw the error and offered to resolve the issue quickly—as in within five minutesI don’t think it should have gone that farI’m not really sure what the point of a GM is if he punts his problems to corporateThe lady I spoke with even put me on hold to call ***I feel like she had empathy [redacted] did not If you plan on joining this club, give them a credit card you are OK cancelingThat’s probably the only way you will get a clean break from the gym
I like this location but this place is very dirtyI wish they would clean this location.I am very disappointedSome of the equipment needs to be repairedWe did tell management and they said they would fix it and several months later the equipment was still brokenThe place is so gross and dirtyI really dont understand why they do not clean itThis is such a disappointment Please someone address this problem
I mistakenly signed up for a personal trainer here, and the following day went back to have them cancel my contract (which said I had days from signing to do so without penalty)months later there has been no resolution at all, the gym is still charging me for services I have never used, and has now taken $from me for a contract that was supposedly cancelled within hours of its signing
Our company has been attempting to provide our employees with discounted gym memberships with LA Fitness for over a year now, with no successWe initially spoke with Louis Pwho I believe is the Regional Sales person for our area, and he directed worked with Ray M., LA Fitness Sales RepIt was like pulling teeth to get Ray to respond to our voicemails and we received reports back from employees trying to enroll who said they never got return calls from Ray eitherSeveral months later, we decided to try again to provide a corporate discount and called the Customer Service phone number to request to be assigned to a new sales person because we did not want to deal with Louis P or Ray M againRather than receiving a call back from Customer Service, I got phone calls from two different local LA Fitness gym managers saying they could help usWe were very confused to find out that the Customer Service person had contacted Louis P despite our concerns, and he didn’t even call us directly, he just had the managers callWe were then told that our Corporate discount had expired and we would need to go through the process to provide one again, which we didWe distributed the new discount information to our employees and a new employee went the following month to enroll and was told that LA Fitness could no longer honor the discount since the new one had expiredWe discovered, much to our dismay, that the discount that was offered to our company was only good for daysThat employee was subsequently charged even more money for a membership than was currently being offered on the websiteSince then, we have called Customer Service several times in order to escalate our concern and was told that we would be provided with a phone number to the appropriate Vice President to speak toWe have never received a call back from Customer Service despite multiple voicemails left We are appalled at the lack of professionalism displayed by the employees representing LA Fitness especially since we are trying to build a relationship in order to provide LA Fitness with more business
Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved Thank you for your assistance in resolution of this issue in a timely and fair manner Best wishes for the holiday season [redacted]
after being lied to by sales representative about the terms of my contract, I was met with a ridiculous amount of resistance when it came to canceling my membershipThis is a recurring theme in all reviews of LA Fitness across the countryTheir cancellation process is ludicrously outdated, and designed to extort more money from unhappy customers.customer service is atrocious, and I have not had any issues positively resolved with the company despite repeated efforts on my part
This LA Fitness is located directly across the street from my employerI was happy when they decided to partner with us, and offered a no initiation fee, and a free 2-week trial membershipWhat they didn't tell us up front was the trial membership began from the day they gave the vouchers to our company, not the day an individual began usingOn the siday, I went in to ask questions, and the salesperson [redacted] was highly aggressive in his sales tactics, both with myself, and other employeesHe was unable to provide a copy of the sales agreement, and had us signing contracts on a very obviously photocopies paperHe said that we would see the first and last months draft beginning days from the date we signed up Imagine my surprise when the very next day, the monies were out of my account! That, and he signed me up for personal training without my consent! After talking with some coworkers about how shady our experience had been, we decided to cancelI walked in and spoke to someone at the front desk, requesting to speak to a managerShe said one was not availableI said I was here to cancel my membership, and she took down my information and said I would see a refund of fees within business days (ironic, considering how fast they took my money!)I did receive an e-mail that night confirming my requestI spoke to someone at my bank, to make sure the fees were returned LA Fitness tried to deny my claim with the bank, saying I had to provide something IN WRITING to cancel my membership, even though the lady at the front desk cancelled my membership that day for meThis place is too shady and has too many rules for me to want to even reconsider doing business with them
Beware, do not sign a personal trainer contract unless you can get there employees to put in writing that there are special circumstances on why you can cancel early in addition if your trainer leaves or is sick they will state they will not charge you for a session and then do I once was double charged a session because my trainer was not there How the heck are you will two trainers at one time? Answer your not but they like to cheat you out of paid sessions Now back to special circumstance when first signing up they said it's okay that your only down here for a few months at a time we can work with you So I signed the contract However, when the time came for me to be away for a few months they stated they would freeze my account instead of cancelling it and I wouldn't be billed until I unfroze the account Two credit card charges later I cancelled the membership and put stop payments since the manager who promised me the freeze ignored all phone calls However I then get a letter stating I have to honor this contract and pay the two stop payments ignoring all verbal contracts with manager All I can say is stay far away from anything they want to charge you extra for then just using the gym
The LA Fitness employee Eric was extremely disrespectfulDid not allow a member and I to speak with the sales staff about a membershipEric(LA Fitness Employee) claiming to be the manager, said to the member I was with, that his membership was revoked for suspension of training and without evidence to back up the claimWhich he (member) asked forEric didn't not allows us to speak with the sales staff about opening another membership, and threathened to call police, just because we wanted to speak with staff
After years, I'm leaving LA Fitness due to fraudulent billing of Kids club for almost a year Manager [redacted] at Whittier offered to refund bucks, less than 1/of the charges they buried on my card When I informed her I was quitting, she was more than happy to cancel my membership Terrible customer service and thieves
I've been a member of LA Fitness for five to ten yearsI signed up with a big up front and a low yearly costI was sort of upset when I discovered there was a better deal availableBut I jumped on it and signed my son up with itThen however that deal never became available again and so I could not get other family members on itStill waiting for that dealI was also not too happy to find out I would have to re-enroll and pay everything over again if I wanted to reserve racket ball courts over the phone! Also it appears the front desk is always on the phone calling customers to get them to pay up for the next month or soThose issues though don't really affect me much compared to the positivesThe receptionists and managers know me by name and are always very friendlyThe staff is also friendly(Though they seem to fire the staff on a regular basis.) The swimming pools are good though a spin dryer would be great if they had oneThe racketball courts are goodThe basketball courts are fine tooI like the people that go to the gym, though there are a few crazies like a bimbo that said to never ever talk to her, kids in the changing area with phones always pointed at people, and religious nut cakes, but they are easy to avoid and give you warningsUsually the people are friendly to the point you sometimes don't want to go because you don't feel up to smiling and living up to expectationsThe LA Fitness' are a huge step up in quality from the hole-in-the-wall smelly Hour Fitness places with fat ladies chewing gum continuouslyThough the fellow people there are almost as niceBasically LA Fitness is a good clean club no matter which one you go toAll the amenities being about the same, ranging from good to the latest fantastic computerized bikesOh yesClass instructors are all very niceIf you are athletic you can usually count on being invited to do things like training outside of the club with others of similar skills by the instructorsI like LA Fitness, especially when compared to Hour Fitness, and highly recommend themI don't go there very often now because a local gym opened up that is easier to get to
This is the worst fitness club as far as management The local general manager revoked my membership because I disagreed with him and corporate is supporting the action and not refunding my money
The club here has not repaired the elipticals, (7) left, since I have been thereOver years now!! I have filed complaints with the front desk but nothing happens!!
I was also lied about the terms of my contract which now, I have learned that is theier way of ripping of customersThey enrolled me in a personal trainer contract for weeks, for $a monthIt is way too much, I have tried to get out of it, and they say I can't! Its being months alreadyFor some reason, last week they made a mistake while trying to charge this month's fee in my account, so the bank blocked them after they made attempts to place the charge, with the wrong billing addressTheir mistakeWell, yesterday I received calls harrasing me and with threatsToday Which I am not answering anymore.Still, I have bnot being able to get out of the contractTotal fraud
I have asked multiple times to cancel my two month contractual window for the $guest fee and am always told that ONLY the managers can help me The managers are unavailable and very rude when they are available and refuse to help meToday in the Levittown, NY club, they refused to remove the charge saying that the computer was frozen and that corporate was unavailable to help me or call me and that it was my problem to remove the chargeWhen I stated my legal rights as a consumer, she still would not help meWhen I left the LA Fitness Club, a large, built man from the club followed me to my car and threatened me to roll down my window I refused and he said he was going to "take care of me," and he took down my license plate numberI filed a complaint with the police and am getting a lawyer Consumers should not have to feel threatened because they make a decision to modify an agreement that they have a right to modifyTheir behavior has been downright illegal
Tonight the unthinkable happened to methe GM of the Bethel Park, PA LA Fitness called the police and lied to get them to the gym Here's the story: I arrived at the gym as I always have for the past 4-years with my pink gym bag (I've had the same bag now since I started my membership) I scanned the card on my phone and walked upstairs to the weight area I don't typically frequent this particular location but did so tonight to save time I got upstairs, folded my coat into my bag and got in line for the next available squat rackAll I needed to do tonight was squat, sets of and I was out and ready for CrossFit tomorrow After about 5-minutes a girl (the operations manager) came up to me and wanted me to place my bag in a locker and I told her I didn't want to She and I had the exact same exchange multiple times before she walked away About minutes later (I only had two sets of left now) the GM comes up to me and starts harassing me about my bag I had had enough of the harassment at this point and asked if I was violating any corporate policies involving my membership and he replied "you're violating my rules"He obviously thinks a lot of himself to assume that he can independently develop rules outside of the LA Fitness Corporate office So I simply said "Let's call corporate right now together and if they say I can't have my bag then I'll take it to my car or wherever" and then he said "You can call corporate, I'm calling the police" I said "you should" and continued to dial corporate Please realize that this was IN THE MIDDLE of the gym floor at a very busy hour Once on the phone with corporate, they told me I'm doing nothing wrong and that while they prefer bags in lockers there is no rule against bags, they then told me to tell Wynn to call them using the corporate line So at this point I had my coat on, I wasn't going to continue to stay in a place where I didn't feel safe and was being harassed and the manager had used intimidation tactics in an attempt to get me to bow down to him, so I was leaving on my own but had to deliver the message from corporate on my way out As I passed him near the door I said "Corporate said I'm doing nothing wrong however I'm still leaving and they want you to call them on the corporate line" He told me he isn't calling them, he said that he spoke to his regional VP [redacted] (who I know from being the GM at another location) and that the police are on their way I said fine, we exchanged some polite insults and I left and went to my car to call corporate back Within minutes the police were there and knocking on my car window and the truth comes out that he told them I refused to leave after he asked me to which is a bald faced lie I still can't believe a business would treat a customer this way, I'm a loyal quiet customer (now former) and I want to make sure that no other gym goer is harassed, insulted, intimidated and lied about to the authorities as I was tonight
I recently had a terrible experience at the LA Fitness at 22nd Ave N in Saint Petersburg, FL I was chatting with “the manager” Kayla (she refused to give her last name or employee ID) on Sunday, October 9, at around 5:PM and I presented the guest pass that I received online She started off very courteous and gave me a tour of the club, but once I mentioned that I was planning on taking advantage of an online offer and signing up for membership online, she became rude and refused to activate my guest pass It seems to me that she has not had proper training on dealing with potential customers If I’m treated like an unwelcomed burden when I’m just considering membership, I can’t even imagine how paying members must be treated Though after my experience, I did see quite a large number of complaints online about the customer experience at LA Fitness I’m glad that I got to experience it before becoming a member
Brought a day guest pass into the Mesa, AZ location on Power Rd on 4/25/to test out the facilityThe female associates were not clear on what to do with my pass, which had company logo on it but did not specify a locationA rep named '***' wrote her name on the pass, but that was all the info from a sales tracking perspectiveThe female reps tried to turn me away because I didn't have a membership & because the sales staff wouldn't arrive for two more hours They brought over another female who was exercising, brought her behind the counter & showed her the pass & presented the situationShe told me I needed to meet with sales & fill out a waiverShe also told me I'd get a pass emailed to me and to bring it with me next time Today 4/26/16, I revisited to utilize the remaining two days of my three day passI was greeted by the same females from the day beforeThey asked if I had purchased a membership & I said no, I wanted to use my second day of my passThey said that I couldnt because I need to pay for a membershipI asked why it would say three days on the pass they took the day before, if they aren't supposed to honor the three daysThey said they didn't know I then pulled up the website on my phone, where I showed them anyone can also print out a three day guest pass- I was rudely told if I had "printed that out we wouldn't be having this issue" by a woman who identified herself as [redacted] ; she says she is the head janitor and a four year employee I reminded them that I'm very interested in a membership a little put off by the attitude, the lack of knowledge by employees and the disrespectful customer serviceI was told that I don't need to be a member The other girl that they grabbed the day before from the floor was behind the counter today also- I asked her why the pass she said I'd receive via email was not sentShe blankly said she didn't know because the sales staff takes care of that I said that the general manager who id'D himself as [redacted] left me a voicemail yesterday [redacted] told me there is no [redacted] at that locationI asked who is in charge of the facility, [redacted] said [redacted] I asked if [redacted] was new, [redacted] said no, that [redacted] has always been the manager I asked for their names and where the corporate office is located [redacted] and [redacted] were the females that id'D themselves, wearing company shirts They allowed me to workout today, after I signed another waiver When I left, I asked [redacted] who the third girl was behind the counter since I didn't catch her name [redacted] told me the girls name is [redacted] , that she "used to work here but not anymore"I asked if she was a manager, a trainer or what; [redacted] said that [redacted] worked the front desk at the location and "knows everything" I placed a call to the corporate customer relations department in Irvine where a rep took my information and noted my concernsBy her questions after my story, she wasn't understanding the issue with the guest pass Within minutes hanging up with her, I received a call from a number that was Toronto, Ontario based, and a female said she was at the corporate office who had spoken with [redacted] about the issue I asked who the actual manager was of the location I went to so that I know for sureThis woman told me it was [redacted] This woman then proceeded to tell me that LA Fitness has no obligation to honor guest passes, that I'm not currently a member so why am I complaining, the issue is being dealt with and that [redacted] will contact meI explained to her that the women I dealt with gave me seemingly incorrect information regarding policies and were rude and the least bit helpfulThe woman who called said that obviously "someone is lying" and that the club already filled her in on my caseshe then told me that my guest pass wasn't being honored because I had already used a pass last monthI asked why she believes that because I can guarantee I never set foot on the premises last monthI did visit with a sales rep earlier in April but did not take a tour or workout to use the facilityWe sat at his desk before I left with pricing infoThe woman said that allegedly there is record of me working out on a guest pass- when I asked her to send me proof, she said the company is not obligated to do anything to prove my word against theirsShe was incredibly rude, condescending and childish in her attitudeI hung up on her because my issue is obviously not being resolvedI feel absolutely harassed and berated While I was on the phone with her I received another voicemail from ***, who identified himself as the managerI have now two voicemails from [redacted] on today's date, as well an additional missed call from the clubs phone number
Stay away from LA Fitness if you want to avoid those recurring costs on your credit cardMy wife and I have been trying to cancel the membership for the past months and even though my wife said that she could not come over to the gym due to a medical condition, the manager refused to cancel the membership
Management contacted [redacted] regarding her concerns with the freeze request for her monthly billed membership [redacted] states that when she requested the freeze on her membership, she was unaware of the $freeze fee billed monthlyAs a courtesy, we have issued a refund in the amount of $back to the checking account on file and processed a cancellation per [redacted] ***’ request on 11/15/ Typically refunds take 7-business days to completeWe believe this matter to be resolvedThank you
