This is being written in response to claimant's rejection of GAF's initial response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # ***. Repairs were made on 7/23/2016. Present during the inspection, determination of scope of work and subsequent repairs were the homeowner, a GAF Field Inspector and the independent contractor who was to perform the necessary repairs. After walking the roof to develop the scope of work, the roofer was allowed to perform the necessary work. This included installing two crickets, applied adhesive and protective granule coating to affected areas and re-flashed the skylight curbs. The GAF Inspector noted that there was no objections raised during the meeting on Saturday, July 23rd. GAF feels confident that the roof will perform as intended and that this matter has been properly addressed. Please note that the skylights are not covered under the warranty and this work was done as a matter of customer goodwill
In the complaint, the claimant raises issues. Our responses are below:
- Appointment with estimator - completed
- Determination of scope of work - GAF has honored the terms and conditions of the applicable warranty to include repairs that are expressly excluded from the warranty. The homeowner, who was present during the roof "walk" did not raise any objections at the time of the meeting
- Provide a second opinion from a roofer who has no stake in GAF - this request cannot be accommodated as any roofer GAF introduces to the disputed claim would be considered biased if their conclusions are in conflict with the homeowner's opinions. The homeowner is welcome to bring in a 3rd party if they still feel this step is required. Please note that the contractor performing the repairs has no stake in GAF, so this request has actually been addressed.
- Commence reinstallation when homeowner can be onsite - It is our understanding that two courses of shingles need to be re-installed. They were removed to allow the contractor to repair sections of the Low Slope roof named in this complaint. They will be re-installed after the materials on the Low Slope section have cured. Approximate time to cure is one week
- Provide documentation showing that a resident of California cannot have two warranties on their home - This matter has been the source of considerable confusion. The Golden Pledge Warranty issued in covers both the Steep and Low sections of the roof. The roof consists of a square area of Steep Slope Roofing (shingles) and a square area of Low Slope Roofing (Liberty SBS Self-Adhering Base and Cap Sheets). As a result of warranty repairs made in 2008, an square area of shingles had to be replaced. The roofer registered that section of the roof in error, as it was not an addition, it was the same roof being repaired under the limited warranty. The homeowner did not pay for a new warranty at that time. The roof is only squares. The homeowner is requesting that we expand the coverage to squares. That is not the size of the roof and the fact that the roofer registered this section of the roof a second time does not impact the original terms of the Golden Pledge Limited Warranty. The Golden Pledge Limited Warranty cannot be issued for partial roofs, tie-ins, etc. In order to qualify for a Golden Pledge Limited Warranty, the entire roof must be removed down the deck and replaced. The area in question would not qualify for a Golden Pledge Limited Warranty. These were repairs covered by the original warranty
-Provide a written letter that includes all items covered under the Golden Pledge Warranty - The printed warranty, which the homeowner references multiple times, is the written document that explains all coverage, limitations, exclusions, requirements, etc. It cannot be dissected into pieces. The warranty is the document the homeowner is requesting and a copy of the warranty has already been provided and reference multiple times by the claimant
While we regret the homeowner may not be completely satisfied, GAF has gone above and beyond our warranty obligations in an effort to satisfy the demands of the homeowner/claimant. All obligations under the limited warranty have been met
This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # ***. The claimant is disputing this matter because they are not satisfied with the dollar amount in the offer of settlement. That dollar amount was calculated based on the terms and conditions of the applicable warranty.
Claimant is seeking compensation that is above and beyond the warranty terms. As we have fulfilled our obligations under the written warranty, no additional relief can be added to the existing offer of settlement
This is being written in response to claimant's rejection of previous response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # *** We are in receipt of the following submittals - Close range photographs, Proof of Purchase and Proof of Installation. We are still waiting for shingle samples and long range photographs showing the scope of the reported problem(s). We will continue to leave this complaint open as we wait for the evidence we require to perform a thorough analysis of this claim
This is being written in response to Revdex.com Claim ID # ***. GAF has contacted the claimant and has provided the necessary information to file for a rebate. If the claimant meets all other eligibility requirements, the time frame provision will be waived. Based on
our conversation with the claimant, this matter has been addressed and resolved. We thank the claimant for calling to matter to our attention and we're glad we were able to provide the information needed to apply for this rebate
This is in response to Claim ID # ***. After careful review of the shingle samples submitted and photographs provided, it was determined that the shingles appear to have suffered impact damage which we believe are the latent effects of hail storms that were reported in the
area. That said, GAF is agreeable to sending an inspector to the site to conduct a field inspection of the roof. GAF will schedule the inspection with the owner
