Dear***, We are in receipt of the complaint sent to your office by *** ***We apologize for any inconvenience *** *** may have experienced at our facility Vehicle was brought in on a tow truck and was repaired for overheating. Warranty Company paid for most of
the repairs and the customer had an out of pocket cost of about $185. Car no longer is overheating or has any leaksThere was, an initial delay in the repairs due to waiting on approval from the warranty company for both the original work and additional leaks we had found. Between this delay, waiting on parts, and completing the 20+hrs of work it took us days to complete repairs. After work was completed we advised customer that the transmission in the vehicle also had issues which we found while test driving the car We looked into these transmission issues and advised the customer that this may have been caused by overheating the car and we could not determine due to the fact that the car was not driven by us prior to service as they had it towed in. I recommended they take the car to a transmission shop or dealer to further diagnose. The customer was adamant that the problem was not there prior to the service, so we agreed that if the transmission shop/dealer could determine that the issues were caused by something we did, we would be held responsible and pay for repairsThey took the car to the shop of their choice I spoke with the transmission shop mechanic from Ammco He advised me that the customer was asking for him to put on paper that the issue was a fault of ours, but he could not do this. He advised me he could not determine that it was something caused by us, but more than likely it occurred when the car was run hot. The transmission mechanic also told me this was a very common issue on these particular transmissions, but that the customers warranty co would not pay for the repairs as it was an electrical internal transmission issue We spoke to the customer after this and advised them that we were not responsible for the damage to the transmission and that they should seek other means to get the car repaired The customer also claims the telescopic steering wheel is now inoperable. We advised him that we did a diagnosis on this for no charge, checked all wiring, plugs, and relays and that the internal motor may not be operating correctly at times. When our mechanic and manager looked at it, the motor operated properly We again apologize as well as thank *** *** for allowing us the opportunity to address his concerns Regards, Robin S*** Customer Experience Supervisor

This is an "On going issue with Pep Boys! This is my 3rd complaint regarding the same issueI sent previous complaint's to The Revdex.com and this will be the 3rd oneI had my van towed to Pep Boys for a "No start" issue around 4/19/They kept my van for days and I had to call them to find out what they were doing with it? 1st they said it was the starter plus something the starter fusedThey said they put in a new starter plus other partsThis cost me $When I got the van back it started fine for days but on the 6th day (midday) it would not start againI had it towed to Pep Boys againThey said it would cost close to $dollars to be fixedThey kept it for a total of daysThey almost never called to advise me of what is happeningI drove by their shop a couple times and each time there was my van sitting with the steering column torn all apart with no one working on itI went in and told the Manager Jorge that my van is just sitting thereHe said well they have to take a break (every time I went there no one was working on it)When they said it was ready now (for the 2nd time)Before I left the parking lot I found a crack in my front windshield 4-inches longI informed them& They took pics and said the manager was not there that was handling my caseOn the way home my left front wheel was making some noises & after I parked it at home the engine would not turn off! I could smell like wires burningIt finally turned off on it's own & would not restartThere was also a dent in the back door that was not there beforeIt does not appear that these mechanics know what they are doingThe customer care is Very poor! Every time during this ordeal I would talk to the manager he would say "I am going to tell you the truth"Anytime someone has to keep saying "I am going to tell you the truth." Before the finish their statement, I wonder If I am getting the truth? I will never recommend anyone take their vehicle to Pep Boys again.TranslateI was trying to fix my van up to sell but now after all these problems I would have to put more money in than I would like toSo I would like Pep Boys to give me a refund for all the money they charged me$+ $the value of the vanI donated the van to a "None Profit" because after all the damage Pep Boys did to it, I could not sell it to get much from itI am sure after I parked it the last time it burned other parts in the engine tooI just want what is fair & owed to me

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Mr. Robin S[redacted] is not fully explaining what happened in store. The car is a [redacted] v8 with a 5.4 L engine. This is a big SUV, as is its required Freon volume to cool off the entire cabin. The technician in Pepboys put only 5 liter of Freon to test the compressor, while this amount was not enough to trigger the compressor to start working. This resulted in an incorrect diagnosis which was "your compressor is weak and must be replaced by a new one". In the quote - that I have a copy of - there is not even a single word about leak!!! Thre was no leak. As a matter of fact I asked the technician if there was a leak and he said no. I told Mr. A[redacted] that day that there is no leak and my AC works just fine. But he said "it will eventually leak "!!!! And I told him "any AC will leak over time; it could make 2-3 years to leak out" but he Mr. A[redacted] very much insulted me by keep telling me "you do not understand" while I was trying to explain to him that my car simply needed more gas to make the compressor work!! But he keep ignoring what I was saying and that was the main reason I left the store.Although I explained all the details in my very first communication here, also attached the original quote of almost $1,500 for replacing the compressor, it looks like Pepboys official (Mr. Robin S[redacted]) only highlights what makes his own case to prove me wrong. I do not take this personally but I am very surprised why Pepboys acting this way.Nonetheless, the solution was as easy as I mentioned, to get the second opinion, I took the car to another mechanic and he simply filled up the Freon gas and the AC started working with no problem and it has been working since then. I am very much puzzled why Pepboys is taking this so personally and hesitates to accept that they made a wrong diagnosis!!

I am rejecting this response because: I had a mechanic look at and tell me the reason was because they didnt put any oil in it. It had nothing to do with them changing the spark plugs. I called and asked when you do a tine up which was the original reason I went do they top off the oil they said yes but that wasnt sone to my car .

I am rejecting this response because: No one from PEP Boys contacted me in regards to this complaint and, therefore, no refunded was offered. I did receive a voicemail regarding a negative PEP Boys survey I submitted, but that has nothing to do with this complaint. Since I was not contacted regarding this complaint, I can't accept the response - there was none. Regardless, I did not ask for a refund, nor do I want one. A refund does nothing to correct the situation that caused the complaint. I had asked that the company stop advertising prices and service times that they do not honor; or educate their staff on accurate charging of services and honoring service times that are "guaranteed."

Revdex.com CLAIM NUMBER: [redacted]My response to the business is as follows. The car was NOT "running rough" I drove the car in with NO problems, NO check engine light. I recently had over 1,000 work of word done to the car including work to the timing belt. The car ran perfectly fine between the time I took it from the mechanic who performed the work and when I went into the pepboys for an oil change. While in Pepboys care, my car was disabled by their mechanics. The original documents they sent me home with had NO mention of "running rough" or a "check engine light" Their mechanic claimed the issue was with timing. I took the car back to the mechanic who completed the work, the mechanic found there was NO issue with timing as if the timing was off and in the condition the pepboys mechanic claimed, I wouldn't have been able to drive the car. After having my mechanic take a look, he determined Pep boys probable ran the engine with no oil in it during the change or completed something that disabled the vehicle. After this, I had the car towed to the [redacted] in [redacted] who determined there was engine damage beyond repair as repair cost would exceed the value of the vehicle. They further explained if the car had the timing issues the PepBoys mechanic claimed, it would not have been drive-able. The further explained they would have to open the entire engine to determine exactly what was done by the pepboys mechanics that disabled my vehicle. I allowed the independent auditor pep boys wanted to send to the dealership and they conducted their inspection per the [redacted] service rep Rob. The results of that were sent to pepboys per Rob on August 1st and they have yet to respond. Rob also states he sent info about the cost of breaking down the engine and they have not responded to that either. Pepboys is at fault because I drove my car into their facility and COULD NOT drive it out. Whatever took place, took place while in their car making them responsible. Please find Rob service manager from [redacted] email below that states the info was sent to pep boys regarding cost for breaking down the engine to determine exactly what their mechanics did to disable the vehicle.PepBoys is completely unwilling to resolve this matter amicably. I have incurred numerous expenses for not having a car including rental car fees, as well as public and private transportation fees, as well as missed days from work.
[redacted]I found the information that was faxed to Pep Boys. It was faxed on 8-1-2016 at 10:44 am to ###-###-#### attention Lamar. Rob Service Advisor[redacted]
Attach are the documents that explained the damages done by Pepboys. The first page of the pdf is from the transmission shop that explain that all the work done by them (Pepboys) were due to wiring being pinched between steering column and mounting bracket as well as main mounting bolt and nut being missing. Second page indicts the problem with the steering column that is a results of my traction light being on and the automatic adjustment not working on the steering column. The third page (diagram) of controls that were pinched from Pepboys work. The last page indicts the aamco charge of a diagnostic that Bryan from Pepboys told me that he would pay for but did not. The second pdf file shows the second diagnostic that was supposed to be covered by Bryan but was not covered. The last page of the second pdf file shows bumper to bumper diagnostic by dealership indicating recommendations and problems found before taking the car to be serviced by Pepboys.

I am rejecting this response because:To start off ninety percent of what was responded are lies and an insult to my intelligence, I came in to pep boys and told them about the oil leak I had, after over a week of not hearing back from them I went up there. I asked the assistant manager for an eta on when my vehicle would be and he respond snarly "the eta is tonight"(WHICH IT WAS NOT). After getting my vehicle back the check engine light came on and it felt as if the transmission was slipping and I talked to Mr. C[redacted] who told me the transmission was indeed removed briefly to get to the oil leak. I have still yet to receive a phone call from the district manager Mike (Glenn R[redacted]) who which I was assured would give me a call. I had to have it t[redacted]d back in after explaining to Mr. C[redacted] that it was undrivable and I was afraid driving it would do further damage. I was asked about the "broken dip stick" after it was t[redacted]d in and was not told about it until weeks after I told Mr. C[redacted] it felt like the transmission was slipping. I was never offered to get a transmission replaced, I was told that something went awry and it was being replaced (which I have voicemail proof). Before I was told about the transmission issues I was told it could be a simple tuneup. The vehicle was only t[redacted]d in once and this location had it for over a month with no communication on their part, I took it upon myself to find a ride to this location to find out what was going on. After talking to the same "assistant manager" as the first time, he said "I don't know whats wrong with it, it just says it needs a tune up". This was the only communication after getting the truck t[redacted]d in a month prior, I was never told about my vehicle being brought to another transmission shop, only that a refurbished transmission was being bought by this location from a local shop. This is a month after coverups and being told it was a basic tuneup, I told Mr. C[redacted] in the initial conversation, when it was t[redacted]d, it felt like the transmission was slipping. None of this was communicated to me, as a matter a fact all the communication done was by me! The only time I declined to pay was when the "assistant manager" told me it "could be" a tune up, if I don't like it "the keys are right there", I never requested a transmission from them prior to talking to the Revdex.com it was offered. I was told the damage wasn't done by me or them it was just one of those things and that the transmission would be replaced by them. I left the vehicle on the property for weeks because it was t[redacted]d in and nobody called me to tell me what was wrong with it?!? I talked to C[redacted] and asked about the district manager and told him I found it odd I hadn't heard from him and I may be towing my vehicle soon. I was never told I needed to remove my vehicle as there was still confusion on what was being done to it. The complaint was sent a couple weeks prior to me having it picked up by the dealership. So the actual recap is I spent 1600 dollars, transmission WAS taken out by Pep boys, fluid may not have been lost but wasn't filled properly due to "broken dipstick". I was not made aware of said dipstick until after the transmission problems came up. I was never offered to have it replaced as I was told one was just snagged out of another vehicle. I was never told someone else had look at it, but indeed it was a solenoid and it would be about the same price to replace the transmission so that would be done for me at no cost. I was advised on March 31st it would be ordered and put in by the following Monday. I called that Wednesday to see what time I should pick it up. I was told whenever I want but there was no work done as if the transmission was replaced the general manager would lose his job. I had issues since day one of bringing my vehicle to this place. I would love to see the proof that it was brought somewhere different and would like to know why a mechanic would need to bring a vehicle to another mechanic?

I am rejecting this response because:A repair estimate with caliper included was given by Steven at the time for $650.No written estimates of repair was given to me at any time throughout the process. The technician at the store did hang up on me for at least 3 times. These are just facts and I think your response convinced me that the consistency of your customer service,Which is "don't care" and the merchants are always right. If that's what the company wants to pursuit, I have no problem at all.
