Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

I recently was paying my minimum payment of $26 and instead they took the full amount of my balance putting my persnoal bank account in the negatives right before Christmas. When I called I got 3 totally different stories of what would happen and how long it would take to get my money back. My personal bank actually ended up getting the money back faster than they would give it. Then for the month of December they charged me a late fee for November (the month I tried to pay the minimum and got all of it taken out) so I called again and said I would pay the $26 for November and $26 for December and asked for my late fee removed. So after I paid that $52, they charged me another* late fee. So I call again* and ask why that is there and the response from a manager who was extremely rude was "Just because we take your late fee off doesn't mean you won't have to pay that". Nothing but HORRIBLE customer service. I do not recommend to anyone.

I have spent hours trying to apply for Synchrony's High Rate Savings Account, both online and by phone. It has been a week and no small deposits have been made to either of the checkings accounts at the 2 banks I gave them for transfer. I tried to apply for this account last year and found it too difficult then. Now after so much effort, they tell me they won't take my money! I applied for a joint account and because I would be primary on the Synchrony account and I want to transfer from an account with my husband as primary and they won't do that! Their customer service and system is ridiculous and I don't feel that I can trust them with my money.

Synchrony Bank recently purchased the BP Visa credit cards from Chase bank. This occured during the period by which my card payment would have been posted through Chase's automatic billing system. After getting the notices in the mail about the transtion to Synchrony I had no way of paying the bill via Chase's website and I had no information from Synchrony as to which department/number/website to call or access to get my card paid. By the time I did get that information interest charges had already been posted to my account and late fee was posted as well. After making a full balance payment I configured automatic payments in Synchrony's system come to find out that does not make automatic payments until the next billing cycle. After $100+ in fees plus damage to my credit my account may finally be configured correctly. I guess I will find out next month. I will be baby sitting this account to confirm this is continuing to post payments correctly. I am not pleased at all about this transition away from Chase, I will not recommend Synchrony Bank to anyone else.

Agreeing to finance a purchase via a GE - Synchrony loan was one of my worst decisions. Calling in to the automated system is a real pain every month - the system takes a minimum of 15-20 minutes every month to make a payment. If I don't use the automated system, I have to pay a $10 fee for the customer service representative - just to make a payment. The customer service agents are very good - but the automated system is making me very angry. When I get this account paid off, I intend to never use this bank again. I do not recommend anyone agree to financing via Synchrony Bank.

We have had nothing but problems with GE capital Bank. We got a credit line from rooms to go in October of 2013, and the credit line was through GE Capital Bank. We made our purchase and got our furniture and started making our payments on time every month from the very first bill. In February, we attempted to pay our bill online, but the site was down for maintenance so we could not pay it until the next day, which was the day after the due date. We ended up incurring a late fee for the bill being paid one day after the due date. When I called them about this fee, they agreed to credit it back because the bill was one day late due to their online system being down. We pay our bill every month. The bill is due on the 14th for $20. Well this month our bill said $77, so I called to find out why. Turns out our payment for May was not processed until the $15th, hence a $20 late fee. That means a late fee equal to our monthly bill. Then for June, the payment was not processed until the 17th, so another late fee, but this time for $35. Plus interest on the late fee’s as well. We are interest free on our loan, until 2016, but they can charge a late fee for them processing the payment after the due date, and then charge interest on that late fee. Also the late fee’s were applied to the account on the actual due date. So they were charging us a late fee on the date the bill was due. Which means even if the payment had been processed on the due date, we still would have incurred a late fee for not paying the bill earlier. Well they agreed to credit back one of the late fee’s, even though both were at the fault of not processing the payment when it was paid. However, the one late fee they are crediting, we still have to pay them for and they will then apply that extra amount toward the balance. So they are forcing us to pay extra toward the balance, instead of crediting for their mistake back on the monthly bill. They said this is their practice. I did contact rooms to go directly, to let them know about how their credit line company was treating the customers. The lady I spoke with, who took the report, was not too happy about what I informed her of, and said that this is not the type of reputation that rooms to go wants reflected on them. I had even told her that after we pay this furniture off next year, we were considering getting a new bedroom suite through them; however, now I feel like if we do not have the funds to just buy it all up front, we won’t use them because I don’t want any more credit line with GE Capital due to their practices. Also, just an FYI; every single company I have dealt with does allow at least 2 to 3 day grace period after the due date before any late fee's would incurr, due to the fact that many companies understand that some people must wait for pay day to pay their bill. GE Capital refuses any grace period. Although not only do they charge you a late fee the very next day after the due date, because they have no grace period; and not only do they also do this if the payment is not processed on the date it is paid; but apparently they charge you a late fee on the due date if the bill is not paid before the actual due date. Forcing consumers to pay their bill early each month or incur a late fee on the due date is wrong and illegal. Also, forcing consumers to pay extra toward their balance, by creating a billing error that makes the consumer have to pay more than the minimum payment, but credit that error toward the balance instead of the bill I would think should also be illegal. You cannot force consumers to pay their bill early or be penalized. And you cannot force a consumer to pay extra toward their total balance by charging them wrongful fee's and then telling them they still have to pay them but that extra amount will go toward the balance and not the bill. Essentially, that means GE Capital could create an "error" on the bill that equals to the full amount of the balance, then tell the consumer that they will credit back that error but he consumer has to still pay that full amount and then the extra will go toward the balance; forcing the consumer to pay the full balance off early. At that rate, my as well agree to offer a credit line with payments that would take 2 years to pay off, and then forcing that same consumer to pay the full balance off the very next month after they get the credit line, by placing fake errors on the bill equal to the full amount. Nope, I would never use this company again for any type of credit. I would rather cut off my foot and sell it, than borrow from them again.

I financed a motorcycle through them that was totaled shortly after. I got a settlement check and called to deposit it and was told everything went through and I got a Confirmation letter in the mail 2 weeks later. 3 months later I got a letter in the mail that my bike was going to be repossessed and that my account was being sent to collections because I haven't paid... even though I had paid the loan amount off. They waited 3 months to tell me that the check didn't go through, the check is now expired and my broker is telling me that the check has indeed been deposited. Synchrony bank was very rude on the phone and the manager hung up on me when I asked to speak with her. She said it was not their problem because they've called me 12 times a day for the past three months. 12. No voicemails just an automated call 12 times a day. Seriously? So now I'm out $10000 and synchrony bank simply says it's not their problem.

This bank closes accounts without warning. Weather or not your credit is good with them. I have never missed payments and paid my cards off early, yet they have closed my accounts. It makes me feel like I am trash. Who needs this.. I have concerns their closing will cause negative impact on my credit report. I am closing all other retailers cards who use synchrony back and will only use cards who appreciate my business.

About five months ago, I financed a new HVAC unit through Synchrony Financial. Where to begin...

1) They didn't send me a bill in February, but sent me a bill for both February and March with a late fee.

2) Although minimum payments were promised at $150/mo, they raised my minimum payment by $25 WITHOUT POSTING IT TO MY BILL, pinged me for a late charge for the amount, and sent debt collectors after me within days of cashing my check (on time). It's simple. Give me an accurate billing statement, I'll write you your check.

3) On top of their business practices being generally shady, they should not have been able to adjust my minimum payment or APR within just a few months of signing for the loan. (That's not legal.)

I just happily paid $300 for an appraisal for a Home Equity loan through my personal bank so I can pay off my loan through Synchrony in full and I don't have to deal with this company's shady business practices ever again. Can't wait.

I have an Amazon card through this financial institution. Due to some personal finance issues, I am currently 4 months delinquent. I take full responsibility for that. However, they called my home number tonight, December 26, and gave my husband, who is NOT on the card, information about my delinquencies. Not good! I will be contacting the attorney general of the state of Florida to file a privacy complaint.

Multiple disputes since May 8 2015, allowed the dentist to fraudulently increase credit account line by $6500 and then charge my account without my authorization or signature nearly $15000. Dentist presented fraudulent information and signature that was not mine. Even though documents presented by dentist do no add up or their correspondence or charges make sense for a free consult and 1 additional visit, they refuse to do the right thing by the consumer, allowing fraud to the consumer and my credit account.

This business sucks, I have a card thru these guys that I got when I purchased something at Conn's. I have been paying my bill on the day that I receive it. I just found out they are charging me a late fee and stating I have not been making the payments. I discussed with them that the payment has been being made on the day I get the bill. The company states that it is considered an early payment and does not go toward that particular statement. I was told I can not make the payment for a minimum of 1 day after I receive the bill. If I pay the day I get the bill it is early and doesn't count toward my bill and I will be billed a late fee. I was told if I wait to pay the bill for 1 or more days after I receive it then it will count toward my monthy statement and no late fee will be charged. This is the biggest line of bull I have ever heard. Because I pay my bills when I get them I am being fined. I guess that is so they can use my late fee to pay for those bills that don't get paid. I will never again do business with Conn's because they use Synchrony Bank which scams people out of money. I called to speak with someone at this company. I got a person whom I could not understand so asked to speak with someone else. I was then hung up on. I have never seen such a poor business and will do everything in my power to keep others from dealing with the is who run this company.

These people are crooks. Got my motorcycle loan for Kawasaki through them, 0.00% APR. By the time the bill arrives, you have about 7 days to send the payment before it's "late". I sent it the next day a few times, from CO to GA. How long can that possibly take? I always see the check posted to my bank account either on the day its due or a few days after. Then they hit me with a $40 late fee. I'm positive that they do this on purpose since my loan has no interest payments. Total scam! Do yourself a favor and avoid these ss!

Don't listen to good reviews about this bank. The Revdex.com gets paid to list them as good. The bank Syncronisity is crooks.

These people call 6-8 times a day. It is never a person and no way to get past the robot to a real person.

The bad part?? They have no business calling me as I have none of their cards or accounts. Unreal.

Do not get a Synchrony credit card. I've always made my payment on time. I experienced health problems and I'm always 29 days past due to ensure account is not reported as late on my credit report. Synchrony bank does not work with you to bring your account current. the only option is to close the account, pay less monthly payments, and Synchrony will report your account late to the credit bureau. DO NOT GET A CARD!!!

I have retail cards backed by Synchrony Bank and I am very disturbed by them regarding [redacted] and [redacted] As for [redacted] they have sent emails and promised cash back for using the Smart Connect card which they have NEVER honored. Once I realized this was happening, I began saving my emails to refer back to about a year ago. I checked them against my purchases contacted them on 11/18/15. I was told by the customer service rep that she could only issue 3 credits totaling $40 to me and they would be applied to my account immediately. To date, nothing has been done. I believe Synchrony bank deals dishonestly with their customers and that the Revdex.com ratings are based on their willingness to resolve issues once they get caught. Their ratings are not based on their ability to resolve their issues from the outset. If they don't get caught, there's nothing to resolve. I'm truly ready to cancel my accounts and deal with other banks. Also, I have never called Synchrony Bank regarding my accounts and been able to clearly understand the customer service reps. Apparently, ALL of their customer service reps are outsourced.

I have had an account with Amazon for approximately 18 mos and had paid it off 3 months ago. I had an account with JCPenny and paid it off about 3 months ago. Also had an American Eagle account and paid it off. Since that time; about 3 months Synchrony has closed all three of those accounts. None of these accounts had ever been seriously past due. They sent letters saying that my accounts were reviewed and as a result a decision was made to close the account citing one of the reasons my credit score was low as "number of inquiries was a factor in determining score." Well I haven't tried to open an account or get a loan, so they are the reason I had inquiries on my credit.

This bank is highly poor in customer service and their overall Business process really sucks. They called me on my cell phone, and telling me that my cell phone number is not verified. Height comes when they need my photo id and address proof to be mailed on their PO Box address to verify my phone number.

What the stupid process is this? In today's world, when card application happens online, this bank does not have any process to verify cell number (that is already in their record) online.

And, because of unverified cell number, they have blocked my account completely. Here again they make us fool, saying they can not disclose any account information or take any customer request further. But, they are ready to close the account if customer requests. Do you guys really want business or not? It gives an impression that you are doing favor by offering credit card, and not at all interested in retaining customer.

Totally disappointed with the service.

I have several credit cards that are now handled through Synchrony Bank. Every card has a minimum interest rate of 25% to 27% and they are all veriable. This is as bad as dealing with my local loan shark. They must be making more money hand over fist. I may cancel every card in the next year so I never have to deal with this.

Shame on GE!! I opened a care credit account and they sent my bill to a very old address and it was forwarded to me. I wondered what happened as I never heard from them after being given a small credit amount to cover an ill pet incident. After not hearing from them for 3 months, I began receiving about 15 automated calls per day to my pre-paid limited cell phone minutes phone without my permission for a month! Still didn't know who the calls were from and when I called the automated message didn't give a company name and asked for my Social Security number - no way was I leaving a message. I wondered who the calls were from as the message never said. Then I got a call at my work! How did they get my work number? How did they get my old address? Shame on them. In all, I was 2 weeks late with the payment after that - their fault, which the guy when I got thru said he'd note on my account. Now I read online reviews and - ugh...now when I close my account - or they do as it appears if you don't continue to use it, my credit will be lowered. Care Credit and stores using this bank: PLEASE COMPANIES, DO NOT USE SYNCHRONY BANK OR GE BANKS FOR OUR CREDIT! I will never bank with them again. And, I used Care Credit years ago and paid it off on time and never had a problem. Just because I am late 1 month after 15 years of paying my bills on time does not give them the right to hijack my cell phone! And he had the nerve to ask if Synchrony has my permission to bombard my cell phone with more automated calls! No way!
