They administer Wal-Mart's credit card. I have had an account and never had a problem up until now. Never carried a large balance. Never late on a payment. Always paid 5-10 times minimum payment.due. I purchased some camera equipment on line this weekend. I charged part of the price ($100) to the Synchrony Bank Mastercard. Today I get a call from Synchrony Bank's fraud department saying they had blocked the payment because it was suspicious. The payment was to one of the two large camera manufactuers selling in the US.
I asked a CSR who was barely conversant in English what was going on. He answered they the purchase was flagged because I had never done business with this company (Canon) before. I was irate because Canon cancelled the order and it was a special sale that has now expired. I then asked do I now have to call you to get preapproval to use my card on line and he went silent.
I own my home Have excellent credit. Drive a Mercedes. But Synchrony declines a $100 charge because I have never done business with this company before? Really? Beware if you want to use this card, payment for your purchase might be randomly declined.
My experience has been terrible. Money with drawn from my bank twice; unable to understand customer service speaking; GE payment still being withdrawn when it was suppose to be paid off; customer service could never understand the problem.
I bought a polaris through this bank big mistake!! Didn't know how terrible they were. Every month I have an issue making my payment. First they do not have online or email services, who doesn't have these services in todays world. You can only mail in your check, talk to an automated service or a person. I don't want to mail a check so I call in and talk to a person. Every month its such a hassle. One month I had a payment reject due to in accurate account information. Well I didn't know this until three weeks later because they keep calling the wrong number. If they had email services I might have know earlier. In the mean time they charged me a late fee of $39.99. When I got my statement I called to try and fix it and get it reversed. The lady said she couldn't because I did it through the automated services which I did not. I spoke to a person but their system says I did not. Nothing but trouble and time consuming issues since I got this account. I am only three payments in and pulling my hair out because they are such a hassle and difficult. I am looking to refinance this loan. Don't want to deal with this for 4 1/2 more years. Beware bad company!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible customer service. My husband and I spoke with a representative by the name of [redacted], and she was extremely rude. She handled our call with a condescending demeanor, and ending the call with "I answered your question, are you done?". I was unable to leave a review due to her hanging up immediately. Very dissatisfied.
I called in to make a payment on my closed account customer service said they would take my payment put I couldn't get a receipt emailed of fax to me because it was the policy to just provide a confirmation number. The world is very wicked to say I would make a payment over the phone or mail in a payment without any confirmation to show who the payment was made to. That sounds very weird because receipts are the only way of showing proof of anything in today's world. Customer service and managers were very rude and gave me empathy of my thoughts towards the policy as if they did not care anything besides me paying my balance..... COMPANY NEEDS BETTER WAYS OF HANDLING BUSINESS.
I made an early payment for the next billing cycle on my account that was much larger than what is normally billed. Of course the payment didn't post for the next billing cycle & I still owe them more money. On my bill payment is due the 10th. How am I supposed to know the billing cycle stays open till the 17th of every month???? When I called, I couldn't understand the representative... English wasn't his first language. Big surprise! When I spoke to the manager she at least spoke English but still couldn't help. I haven't been happy switching to their services. This is my second account with them, and I'm still not pleased. Avoid having an account with them if at all possible.
I recently started dealing with Synchrony Bank, when I had siding installed on my house, it has been extremely frustrating. First they got my address wrong, a different city, so when I received my first bill, finally, it said that I was past due. Talking to them, they said they would send out a new corrected bill and that would be my first payment. The next bill I got again was a past due bill and this time when I talked with them they were not understanding, wanting the past due amount. I am frustrated with having to deal with the mistakes that I believe to be theirs. I feel that they a not a very capable institution as far as keeping track of what is going on and servicing customers as they promise to.
I have had a Value City card for a few years now. I bought a $1,200 couch last year using my line of credit. I paid all of my payments on time, never missed a payment, and even paid off my card before the no interest promotional period ran out. I have had a $0 balance for a while now and was actually considering using my account soon but then I got a letter in the mail today saying they were closing my account. They closed my account based on a credit review and what they say is a decrease in my credit score. My credit score is roughly where it was when they issued me the line of credit at Value City. They also noted that my credit report would reflect that they closed my account not me. That's a great way to treat a customer who actually paid you on time! Thanks for nothing Synchrony and don't worry, I'll make sure I close the other line of credit you issued me a few months back. I will never have another line of credit with this bank again!
I had a BP Visa card from Chase from 1999-2015. The rewards were very good. The APR on that card was 12.99%. I get this thing saying that Synchrony Bank had taken over the BP Visa account and how great their rewards and benefits were. Without paying attention I made a purchase of 4 tires at $515 and put it on the BP Visa card intending to pay it off in 3 or 4 months. When I got the bill the second month I noticed the finance charge was rather high and looked to see that the Synchrony Bank BP Visa was charging APR at 27.99% more that twice what Chase was charging. I paid it off and put the card in a drawer. The rewards that they claim are so great do not work at most stations, only those that are owned by BP and not others who happen to sell BP gasoline which is what the two in my area are, so there are no rewards with this thing either. A terrible move for consumers as that interest rate in about what the penalty rates are with other cards, and I have never been delinquent with a payment. This borders on usury.
I am extremely displeased with the service from Synchrony Bank and advise anyone thinking about getting a Care Credit line to think twice. DON'T DO IT... I applied for a Care Credit card on 7/19/2014 for a surgery that was scheduled on 8/2/2014. On 7/20/2014, they deposited $6300.00 into the provider's bank account. I was never given an opportunity to change my mind and was under the impression that no money would be exchanged until I received services. I never even saw a physician to determine if I was eligible for the surgery.
I decided that I did not want the service performed for several reasons and thought that it would be a matter of Synchrony Bank asking the provider for a refund. Well, that didn't happen and Synchrony Bank offered absolutely no help in getting the money back from the provider. I filed a dispute and they sided with the provider. They told me that I would have to work with the provider to have the money returned. It didn't matter that the provider never performed the services. I didn't know that banks were in the business of giving away money. Never mind, the fact that I'm their customer and the person responsible for paying the loan.
The provider was very confident that Synchrony Bank was not going to make them give the money back without doing so on their terms. Before the provider would credit my account I had to sign paperwork stating that no legal action would be taken.
Synchrony Bank and this provider have very "shady" practices and seem to be working as a "team" and not in the best interest of the customer.
This was a "hard" lesson learned but I would NOT recommend using SYNCHRONY BANK FOR ANYTHING... PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!
I was treated very badly by their phone agent and told to take my business elsewhere.
Applied by phone for a CD on December 8th.. I was assured that the app would be processed within 48 hours. After 3 days, on Dec.11th I called again to inquire on the app's status. After waiting 14 minutes on hold the agent said I'd receive a letter in the mail within 9 to 12 days. When I complained he became upset, sweared at me and told me that I was free to take my business to another bank!!!.
Synchrony Bank does not acknowledge nor note billing statements, they automatically switched and opened accounts without notices. Example is Amazon Prime accounts, a simple notice from Synchrony Bank stating they are now handling Amazon credit accounts. Instead they let a 2.00 charge revolve into a 49.00 charge with late and interest charges before they contacted me. Then the overseas hard to understand customer service would not even discuss the issues. Do not open an account with them
I have recently had several negative interactions with synchrony bank. Unfortunately most if the store credit cards I have were purchased by them. While I did miss a few payments I understood them lowering my credit limits on those cards. I recently lost a job and fell behind a few months. I have sense caught up completely and paid most of them off. The one that pushed me over the edge is Amazon. I love Amazon and use them quite frequently. My card there had a small limit of $500 I believe and it definitely helped them when I had an impulse to buy something I probably didn't need. Although it was completely paid off I received a letter today stating that "due to my "POOR" credit rating my account has been terminated" I have contacted both the bank and Amazon with no positive result so I unfortunately am going to cancel all accounts (including Amazon Prime) and discontinue shopping at any store affiliated in any way Synchrony bank. I am sure that alone this will in no way affect these entities but is enough customers disappear someone will notice. I consider myself a good, honest, hard working family man that pays my bills and does whatever it takes to raise my family but bad things happen to the best of us!
I decided to be proactive knowing I was going on a business trip and send them a payment early they got it last Friday December 5th. to ensure I would not have any issues with my credit limit on my business trip. To my surprise they declined my card at a business dinner on Wednesday Dec. 10th. I called to verify my balance it is said my balance was a NEGATIVE $300. Meaning they owed me money. So I called to find out why they declined my card. The first person was unhelpful and unable to explain it to me so she transferred it to the "Supervisor" [redacted]. He was extremely rude and had no interest in helping me out. His comment was that the amount I PAID THEM was high and therefore they were putting my payment on hold and can hold it for 15 business days??? I asked to speak to his boss and he claimed he was the highest person that I can talk to on the phone and if I wanted to file a complaint I could put it in writing and the address he gave me was a PO box in Orlando, Florida and would not tell me who to address it to or who's attention to send it to. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY LIFE. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. My belief is they are holding my payment so they can charge me another month of interest. THERE BUSINESS ACCUMEN IS HORRIBLE. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. MY CARD WAS A TJX REWARDS MASTERCARD.
I have been a Sam's Club member for over 20 years. Since Synchrony Bank took over their master card, it has been a nightmare and I finally closed the account, it's the first time I have ever done so and the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Within a week of getting my new master cards, my identify was stolen and my account frozen, I got a new set of cards, it happened again almost immediately, and I was sent a second set of cards, then I got a letter stating that they had received a copy of a check payment received by Synchrony which had been cashed by another party and to contact my bank immediately, obviously getting my account mixed up with someone elses, they insisted it was my check despite someone elses name appearing on the check and issued by another bank, and after insisting they send me a 3rd set of cards (3 sets within a month), I closed the account, fearful of what would happen next and what this was doing to my credit score. The majority of the time, I couldn't understand the customer service reps, I suspect customer service is overseas, so I rarely shop at Sams now, have switched to Costco which is a much better experience all the way around, and I don't believe it when Sams states they have not received other complaints regarding their master card and Synchrony Bank, especially after seeing this website!!! Hey Sams, wake up, you made a mistake, get a new carrier for your credit card and apologize to your customers for credit score damage and the worst customer service ever!
I unfortunately have two loans with MySynchrony. If given the opportunity to switch my funds to another bank, I wouldn't think twice about it. MySynchrony is ruthless with their $37 late fee. If its even past 5 pm on the day its due you will incur late fee. I had set up some auto pays. Apparently there was a late fee from the month prior which had not shown up on my account until after I set up my payments. It was not accounted for in my auto pay. No one called to let me know. No one sent an email... My late fee incurred it's own late fee. Customer service is miss or neutral and lacks knowledge. Its a bank that just doesn't care about the customer. This time I over paid on my bill that was past due to just pay the late fee ahead of time and you know... they still charged me the late fee even though I had already paid it. If I just paid what it said or didn't want to wait on hold to talk to a human, I'd be out $37. When you bring a concern to them, they treat you as if its a hassle and that its your fault. Never again will I finance anything with this company and I look forward to finishing the existing loans I have just to free myself of this establishment.
I will never in my life do business with Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) again. They have the worst customer service, the don't follow compliance laws and their agents lack the capacity to use common sense. I had a Walmart Credit Card with GE Capital Retail Bank and made payments on time until I could no longer afford to after being laid off my job. I did the best I could with what I had but I will admit that I could not always make a payment. After being laid off for two years and finally finding employment I took the initiative to reach out to Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) and make well on the balance that I owed. It was not until after I set up my own bi-weekly payments that the account was closed due to history of delinquency. On top of that in the several months that I called in to speak with their customer service not once was I told that the account was closed nor was I offered a payment plan, by their collections team (since mine was obviously not satisfactory). I did not find out the account was closed until I was almost done making payments and I noticed that my available credit still said $0, when I inquired about it a rep told me that the account was closed. When I asked why I was not informed of this, of course he did not know and could not connect me with anyone who did know. The only thing he could tell me was "well there is nothing we can do to reinstate your account", I kindly let him know that I don't want my account reinstated if I have to deal with this company. If GE Capital is smart they will drop this company from its umbrella because they do not follow compliance regulations and are going to end up in court one day. I have another account with them that is currently in good standing but I will be paying it off and closing it as well. I refuse to be economically raped by any financial institution.
I had two accounts through Synchrony Bank - one was Care Credit (for dental), another through TORO (that we took out when we needed a new lawn mower. I have perfect credit! Over 800 fico score. I received a phone call this morning at 7:55 AM!!!! Trying to tell me that I did not make a payment. #1 - I cancelled my care credit account after I paid it off! Apparently, they did not cancel out my informatioin. I made my payment on the Toro account (in fact VERY early). They call me this morning to tell me I am 30 days past due on my account!! I could not get a person that spoke ENGLISH on the phone - to find out that Synchrony Bank outsources to INDIA!! We have Thousands of people unemployed in our own country and they send our jobs to INDIA???? Really?? My perfect credit now has a 30 day late on it b/c these mns applied my payment to the wrong Account!!! Needless to say, one I got a manager on the phone - they basically told me (not in so many words, tough crap! They would reverse the payment to the proper account (which would take 7 to 10 business days), but not fix my credit report!!! DO NOT USE SYNCHRONY BANK!! They ought to remame themselves "SINK"RONY!!!
Cautionary tale.
I pay my bills on time. Have done so in terms of decades, especially since automated payments and direct deposit remove me from the month to month management. Which has worked for every kind of debtor EXCEPT Synchrony Bank.
So I bought a Sleep Number mattress on a 36-month 0% interest promotional offer provided by GE Capital (now Synchrony). I calculated out what that would be per month and started sending that in plus some overage "just in case". First the due date was always in flux, which I missed after the first billing cycle came through and assumed it was due at the same cycle. A few months go by and they call and I'm told of my mistake. Fair enough.
So we get the date set to the same time every month. And I explain to them that the minimum payments are too high because basically it would make it a 24-month 0% interest offer rather than the 36-month 0% interest that I was offered. I go up the management chain over the phone and they concede the problem. So we set up the minimum to be aligned with the 36-month timeframe.
A few months go by and I get calls again. The minimum payment that was negotiated was gone and it was back to the 24-month payoff rate. I explain the problem again, they concede but still I owe (multiple late payments - which is part of the farce). They tell me a number to bring things current and I send that in. I think I'm done.
Another four months go by and problems again. Anyways, I've paid enough in late fees at this point that I suspect the net effect is to have had something like a 15%+ loan for the term of the 0% promotional period. And what I recently finally had to figure out how it was happening is that while my payments are due on the same day each month AND my bank automatically makes that payment AND while they mark the payment (via the automated customer service for Synchrony) as having been paid that day, they still assert that it was paid late (which for them would have to be after 5p EST - and my bank is on the east coast) which you would think that the system would tell you that it was received the next business day at least giving some indication of what the problem is.
Now they won't say what time was actually received, but then I would expect the system to say it was received the next day and not the same day.
But that's only a small part of the problem. The real problem is that they are tracking three different numbers in their support script when you call to resolve the issue. And only the last HIGHEST number will actually get you out of the hole. But you have to realize to ask. And it's taken me four iterations to finally realize what's been happening. Asking "what will bring things current" has three responses and that's a trap.
NEVER DO BUSINESS with SYNCHRONY BANK. That promotional offer is not what you will really get.
I've never had any company when I called to identify what a problem is about get argumentative with me from the start of the conversation. My assumption is that that is just part of the technique of the scam.
20 years ago Bank of America pulled a stunt on rearranging payments to create a snowball one time check bouncing situation and while technically my fault for not understanding what was happening with my cash flow in my late teenage years, I vowed never to do business with BOA again. And I haven't.
Synchrony Bank is on the absolute no list. And any business that is offering promotional offers through them and I find out, will not be getting my business and zero recommendations from me.
My guess is that this isn't just happening to me. So once I talk to my bank about when the payment was actually made, it may be time to see about class action.
Recently Amazon's store credit card program was assumed by Synchrony Bank. One month following the notice of the change, I received a decrease in my credit limit. When I called Synchrony, the cs rep couldn't have been more cavalier about the decrease, asking if I wanted to "pursue a request for an increase." When I explained that I was not requesting an increase but reverting to the original agreement, she said she couldn't do that. When I explained that as an employee of Amazon, that her cavalier attitude was insulting and that I planned on escalating my experience to the senior team at Amazon, her response was, "Oh sure, shall I process your cancellation?" When I finally got to a supervisor, her script was not much different or any more customer centric. Needless to say, I cancelled the account and am forwarding the information to senior management at Amazon.
