The newspaper has not followed through on numerous promises of issuing a refund/credit to me.
Last year paid $278.85 for subscription
Charged $368.08 this time
12-17-18
I called, spoke w/ Claire. After discussion with her supervisor a $66.48 refund to my credit card was agreed to.
1-17-19
I called, spoke w/ Rachael. She found notes from previous call. Told me someone from the finance dept. would call me within 24 hours.
1-18-19
I called back after the 24 hour period. Spoke w/ Gail. Said information was forwarded to finance dept. She told me to give it time and it would be taken care of.
2-6-19
I called, spoke with Vicki. Told finance manager has information, but nothings been done. Told me she'd follow up on it, and it would take 7- 10 days after approval for credit. Told me I should receive a call when the credit is issued. Told her I'm ready to cancel the paper if this isn't taken care of in a timely manner. Said she'd pass that on.
2-19-19
I called, spoke with Claire. She spoke with the supervisor and requested I give her until tomorrow for credit. She'd call me back about 4:00 pm with news of credit.
2-21-19
I called, spoke with Claire. She now recognizes my account when getting the information necessary to look it up. Told her I had made 6 calls to no avail. I cancelled my subscription and told her I wanted a refund for the entire amount of $368.08 that originally was automatically charged to my credit card. She cancelled the subscription and told me it would take 3 to 5 days to get the refund.
I expressed my concern about getting the full refund when I couldn't get a partial one. She told me it shouldn't be a problem now that the subscription had been cancelled.
2-28-19
I called, spoke with Claire. She told me that the supervisors were in a meeting, but one of the supervisors would call me back within an hour.
2-28-19
I called, spoke with John, after waiting two hours for the call back. He kept making excuses. Some of which were:
- because of a glitch, my refund request didn't go in until the 26th, so
I have to wait
- doesn't know why I 'd be told I get called back within an hour,
because it doesn't work like that
- told me I didn't call when I did ( I kept records during each call.)
I told him I now wanted $500 for all the calls, time, inconvenience, and problems it caused with my schedule waiting for the return calls that never came. That's $20 a call after the first call. I told him that tomorrow I'd want $600 if this isn't taken care of now. I told him I wanted a call back within one hour to confirm the credit had been issued. I was done with lies, glitches, and no follow through.
3-2-19
Never received a call back. Checked with the credit card company and no credit had gone through.

Through all of this, being put on hold and the customer service representative checking with a supervisor was a constant. Claire was nice to work with, although no results where obtained. During one call, told me she didn't understand what the problem with issuing the refund was, that it was a simple matter.

Amazingly:
-I received a call from a newspaper representative asking why I
cancelled the paper. I started telling him, but he really didn't want to
hear it. He cut me off and offered me a deal to keep the paper. The
initial amount of the refund would be honored, the subscription
would be extended by two weeks, and a small gift card. I declined
this offer.
-A message was left on my answering machine, after I cancelled
the subscription, saying that my paper delivery should have started
today and to call customer service if it wasn't received. The paper
wasn't received, and I didn't call.

Desired Outcome

I would like my entire subscription amount of $368.08 refunded. I would like an extra $100 credit for the waste of my time, the havoc to my schedule, and the inconvenience this has caused. I would like them to treat other customers better.

Card charged fraudulently and only partially refunded.
Last summer, I signed up for an Observer trial subscription at my grocery store (promotion). I received the paper for the trial period, and decided that I did not want to subscribe longer. After finally convincing the sales people that I did not want to renew, they cancelled. No papers have arrived since the end of summer, 2018. On Feb 12, a charge appeared on the debit card previously used for $12.87. When I called to say that charge was not authorized, the rep said that it was approved (It was not) and suggested that "since the charge was already there, didn't I want to just get the paper?" I said NO, and that I wanted the amount refunded. On Feb 22, they finally refunded $12.04 of the charge, but inexplicably not the full amount. I emailed customer service and have heard no response.

Desired Outcome

I would like the rest of my charge refunded and NO MORE CHARGES to be made to my debit card.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Our records show a refund has been processed and no further charges will occur.

Purchased 6 months of Sunday Charlotte Observer beginning 2.10.19 from ***, which The Charlotte Observer is not homoring
I ended delivery of The Charlotte Observer in December 2018, and purchased Sunday edition of The Charlotte Observer from *** on 2.3.19. With repeated complaints to The Charlotte Observer about not receiving the Sunday newspaper, the customer service said that the *** payment would pay for the newspapers that had been delivered.

Desired Outcome

I would like the $28.00 that I paid to *** refunded. Both *** and The Charlotte Observer have cheated me. I did not extend the newspaper from 1.1.19 through 2.15.19. I will supply all the delivery complaints I have

Paid to renew subscription and never received paper.
Our subscription ended and they kept calling me to renew, so I did and sent a check. Haven't received the paper in over a month. Called their customer service this morning and was told that I owed that money and would have to pay more to renew. Basically they stole my money. The CSR would not help.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund or the subscription active and fulfilled.

Charlotte Observer Encore deposited in my yard after numerous requests not to do so.
I have telephoned the Charlotte Observer numerous times requesting that they not delivery the Encore to my address.Yet, the paper is placed on my property or exactly on the property line between my house and my neighbor's house.

These papers accumulate and invite break-ins.

Desired Outcome

cease delivery immediately.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Feb 14, 2019

We have notified the distribution company to stop the delivery immediately and permanently. We apologize for your inconvenience.

After my subscription expired I continued to receive the paper. After 13 weeks I was billed $122.14. I called & to see what was sent but never got it
When my account expired and I didn't renew, they never called or sent any notice but kept sending the paper, if they had contacted after the first week all this coud have been avoided. When I received the bill after 13 weeks I asked for any notice they sent & I received nothing!
Now I have a collection notice from ARM & have decided to pay and put an end to this.
I will make sure to alert my friends about this issue when thinking of home delivery from the Observer.
I feel sorry for the delivery person who has lost another customer due to no fault on their part.

Desired Outcome

I feel that I should be refunded the $122.14, because it's not right & it's unfair. I should not have to pay for a paper I didn't ask for and that no attempt was made to contact me during the 13 weeks.

I just wanted to report that today I received a check from the Chatlotte Observer for the full anount.

I paid for a 16 week Sunday subscription, didn't receive it, complained and received refund of less than what I paid.
I paid for a week Sunday subscription to the Charlotte observer after attending a coupon class in August 2018. I waited 3 weeks and never received my newspaper. I called and was refunded a little over $11.00 and complained that I was shorted $5.00. I called every month for 3 months to get my $5.00 refunded and was told in January 2019, that the newspaper was charging $5.00 just to subscribe and that was their fee.

Desired Outcome

I want the total amount of what I paid for the 16 week subscription that I never received.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Feb 12, 2019

Thank you. We will make sure an additional $5.15 is issued. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Asked them to stop throwing encore advertisement in my driveway
The Charlotte Observer has a lady tossing advertisements in plastic bags in our driveways in our neighborhoods. I went on line at their site and asked that they remove me from the list. She still delivers them. I ran after her in the car one Saturday to tell her to stop and she said no one told her to avoid my house and she assured me that I would not get another one. Since then she still delivers them. They are trashing our neighborhood and I don't want them at all. They increased home subscriptions and now they are giving away junk.

Desired Outcome

I do not want anymore of those papers delivered to my home in the driveway nor yard.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Feb 05, 2019

We will alert the distribution company immediately and ask them to honor your stop request.

Customer Response • Mar 20, 2019

Today is 3-18-19. They have continued to drop those papers off in my driveway - up to last week. No one got one last Saturday. They are not consistent - but they should be bypassing my home regardless of the frequency. Upset with The Charlotte Observer. Do the executives in that company have trash dropped off in their driveways - NO

Customer Response • Mar 29, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I never said the Encore is delivered on Sundays. It was being delivered on Wednesdays and especially Saturdays. Now it's being delivered on Tuesdays and Saturdays. They just dropped another one in my driveway this past Tuesday (3-26-19). WHATEVER COMPANY WHO'S THROWING IT IN MY DRIVEWAY - I WANT IT STOPPED. IT'S LITTERING. How would the president and other officers of McClatchy feel if trash was dumped in their driveways.

I DO NOT WANT ANY FREE ADVERTISEMENTS (PAPERS) DROPPED OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Apr 02, 2019

We will get it stopped.

I am being billed from a collection agency for services(newspaper delivery) which I have never ordered, never received and have never been billed for
A.R.M. Solutions has billed me for the second time for what they claim is an unpaid bill from the Charlotte Observer. The first bill was from the beginning of this moth and this recent bill is dated January 24,2019. When I spoke to a representative of the Charlotte Observer after receiving the fist bill she told me that she would take care of it and that I would not receive any more bills. Again, I have never ordered the Charlotte Observer, I have never received the Charlotte Observer and have never been billed by the Charlotte Observer. One note of interest is that the name that they are using on the bill they are sending me says ***. My name is ***. I do not have a middle name and my only son is not a*** as his name is ***.

Desired Outcome

I just want them to stop billing me and to take this non payment charge off my credit history.

I have called The Charlotte Observer to stop delivery of its Encore Advertisement and I continue to receive it.
I receive an unwanted advertisement delivery weekly and I do not want to receive it. It is constantly thrown into my driveway without my approval. I did not request this service.

Desired Outcome

I would like for them to stop littering my property with its advertisement.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Feb 01, 2019

Trying to collect money not owed and threatening my credit score.
Did not renew subscription which expired 12/8/19 and did not receive paper after that date. Have been called twice demanding I pay for something I did not receive.

Desired Outcome

Do not threaten me with a negative credit score as caller did, mark my bill paid in full and do not continue to call.
