I got a call offering a free alarm system from Protect Your Home, informed the sales agent several times that I did not have a landline, was not going to get a landline, and he told me that if I accepted the appointment he would offer me the same discounted monthly fee for me, as if I had a landline, for under $30.00 monthly and with the 2 year contract would lock in the price, get the free equipment, and get a promotional $100.00 gift card. Long story short, Protect Your Home had a contractor at my house sign the contract, which I was unaware of, and I received mail the following week stating my monthly wasa over $50. I called them, request full cancellation, and was told I was getting scheduled for a cancellation. The appointment came about 3 weeks after, and I was told that it was a service call to explain why I was getting the over $50 charge. To this day, they refuse to cancel my service, won't pick up their equipment, call me every day, and say I am binded to the contract, even though I wasn't aware someone had signed one until after a month and a half of calls to ADT, and I never authorized anyone to sign on my behalf and never signed anything myself.
we got a new ADT system, bad sensor and goes off when helicopters fly over setting it off, have to by pass or it goes off in the middle of the night, contacted them ,no show for the service call,,call again them they put me on hold for 35 mins and had to end the call. call back another person puts me on hold ,then tries to get hold of techs ,nope rescedual, dont know if they will show up I told him,all this after they people that you call dont know about their own censors and how they even work. SAD got a week to decide wether even to keep the system.
Very poor experience. I find their business practices unethical and not in the customer favor. I have had nothing but problems with their security system since it was installed it doesn't work well enough to protect my home. I find that their contract terms and conditions are unfair. You only have 3 days to cancel your contract and you also have to pay 75% of remaining balance. After 90 days they transfer you to a different company for servicing of your home security system. After 13 months they will transfer your account over to a different company completely. I thought I was actually dealing with that different company and not Defenders from the start. I feel like they are deceptive, I feel cheated, and I feel that they are unfairly marking up the value of their systems to provide customers with a false sense of security. I did sign their contract so I will deal with them an continue to resent it every time the subscription for the service comes out of my account or I have to call them to fix another issue with my home security system.
Sales Process: George (18134) and Candice (17343) were very helpful and got us squared away quickly.
Installation Process: Trey was awesome - very friendly and knowledgeable.
It was very comforting to know that they all genuinely cared about the safety of our home.
My husband and I recently had ADT protection installed in our home by 2 very professional ADT installers. They were able to assess areas that needed better protection. The installers answered all of our questions and spent a lot of time helping us understand our new protection.
Excellent technition! The technician was very knowledgeable, respectful and patient with my advanced age. He explained everything in detail and I feel comfortable using the system.
Wow! Should have read the reviews beforehand... I feel so foolish for not reading these reviews, but I must tell you we were in a very vulnerable position when we sought out home protection. We had just suffered a theft and acted hastily when purchasing ADT home protection. I want to warn anyone who is thinking about home protection to look somewhere else.
We purchased a home and business system with ADT/Defender. The sales technician Tim 19149 told us that we would receive 2 $100 gift cards for installing the ADT systems. We never received any type of email or paperwork, so I called ADT/Defender and they told me that the technician had no right to offer that deal and we would not be receiving the gift cards.
Since then I have spoken with many very nasty toned people that work for Defenders/ADT (Dominique 19777, Kelly 13363, Connie, and Deidre). They talk to you with a tone of condescension and continuously talk in circles as they lie to you.
As a small business owner, I know how important customer service is. Apparently, customer service is not in ADT/Defender's business model.
I am stuck with them until November 11, 2019, but I am taking down all the signs and stickers we placed on our properties and I will tell everyone who will listen not use these companies.
ADT was installed in my home in November. After purchasing a $4000.00 security system, the tech that installed the security system did not know what the was doing. The security system never worked at all. Each day between the hours of 2am -5am,the security system will go off own its own. Each day I would call the ADT support line and the company would have me call a company by the name of Defender. Which is the 3rd party company that actually sales and service the ADT equipment. Upon calling ADT, they keep telling me that the system has a wiring issue and ADT could not monitor my system. By the time that defender opens, I would be at work. I would make an appointment for defender to come out. And the company would send the same tech out that installed the system. That is if the tech actually shows up. Because on two different occassions. The tech never called and never showed up. When he would show up, he would stay for about 5 minutes and say the security system is fine. The tech then stated that the company policy is for us to call the tech directly to get faster service. Because the techs were also customer service reps as well. In doing so, each time I called the tech directly as instructed. The company stated that their is no such policy in place. They argued that I never placEach day on my lunch break, I would have to spend it arguing with ADT and Defender to fix the security system. At this point, I would like for the company to come and get their equipment that has never worked and refund me ALL money spent with the company. The company is a big rip-off. They keep telling me that If they get the equipment. I will still be responsible for the remaining 3 year contract. Which will ultimately damage my credit. I now have a system that do not work and have to pay for it. The earliest that ADT stated that they can send out a ADT technician and not a Defender technician is 8 business days from now. In which I am stuck paying for a system that does not work at all.
I had the Defenders install a system for ADT here in Warrensburg, MO. I was overcharged through an error on their part at time of installation and have now spent 3 hours and 6 phones attempting to get them to reverse the charge (which my bank says they never received). I have been on hold, disconnected, transferred, and given the runaround for the past three days, with promised return calls if disconnected. My bank says without follow-through by ADT/the Defenders, all I can do is wait for the amount to "age off" of my bank account pending transactions. I am disgusted by the mishandling of this by everyone on the Defenders' ... not one person followed through. I am also letting ADT corporate know how this has NOT been handled.
The service was pretty good. The tech had a couple of things he did not have on his truck but overall it was good.
If you are reading this and haven't signed a contract, then stop and don't get involve with this company. I won't repeat what many people have already written about deceiving practices, false advertising, you will end up paying hundreds, if not thousands you didn't plan for. Also, make sure you understand, that to get the cheapest rate they require a true land line, which most people don't have anymore, because most companies have now only VOIP. They will never explain this to you. I am now stuck in a three contract, paying double what they advertised. Their CS is terrible, they will hang up on you just to avoid a sticky situation. Their sales practices border legalized robbery.
Defenders is a rip off. We contacted them to transfer my daughters service to a new address. They opened a new account and are charging us double each month. After realizing what they had done they told us it was legal and we would have to pay both services instead of correcting their error. We have been verbally abused, hung up on, put on hold many times and been on the line for hours at a time only to be told its too bad we are going to pay anyway. I can't believe with only 12 positive reviews and 74 negative reviews Revdex.com gives them an A+ rating. They are crooks and getting away with it. We had no idea we were doing business with Defenders as we called ADT for service. It seems they use defenders and buy the contract back after one year. Stay away from Defenders and ADT!!! The very company that is supposed to be protecting you is really just robbing you blind.
The technician was very professional and knowledgeable. He helped me decide what I needed according to my issues. I'm very happy with all the new features to make things easier for me and my protection.
Technician was on time and very knowledgeable about ADT products as well how to make my home more secure. Successful!
The installers were we'll informed and personable, but I would have preferred a little less up-selling. Well pleased...
I never thought I would find myself wanting or needing a security system. But my situation changed and ADT put me at ease. Jonathan the tech that installed my alarm, took a lot of time to make sure that I was getting the security system that fit my needs.
The installer, Mike, was professional and addressed my questions and concerns. He was knowledgeable and made some valid and important suggestions regarding my safety concerns. Mike was personable.. very easy to work with and patient. I felt comfortable using rhe system after his "tutorial"..l was apprehensive at first as I replaced an outdated system which was cumbersome and complex. Mike is a great installer and representative of ADT.
We had received a marketing postcard in the mail, called ADT and they assigned Defenders are our local dealer. I don't recall the name of the salesperson who came to our home but he was very professional, polite and just doing what he was trained to do (which is why I gave 2 stars and not just 1 star like this company deserves).
First thing they do when they come in --- drill a hole into your wall, install the keypad and THEN sit down with you and talk about price. BEWARE! Do not let them drill or install anything, lesson learned. That should of been a red flag for me but going off of ADT's reputation, I ignored those red flags. Next, the free equipment I was to receive, quickly became over $1,000k which they don't tell you about in advance. So with a hole and a keypad on your wall it's either pay that or downgrade to below what they were offering for free and even then, I still had to pay out $200.00 for "Free Equipment". Now, our salesrep did offer some good advice which we also added - by going with a sim card vs landline as the landline can be cut from the outside causing the alarm to not respond to the monitoring station and we gladly paid for that upgrade but there are lots of hidden fees and fine print so do yourself a favor and read everything carefully.
Fast forward, alarm system is in our home and then the keypad begins to act up. The door is wide open during the summer and suddenly the keypad wants to arm the door. When you try to cancel the arming process, the alarm sounds. So I called ADT - they couldn't tell me what is going on and had no record of any kind of alarm. They redirected me back to Defenders whom I tried for 2 weeks to reach with no response. Just as a little test -- I submitted a new service request on the website and within an hour I got a call from someone wanting to make a new sale. Point...
They do not care about existing clients, only new ones. If you've already given them money, you are a priority but not as much of one as those first time customers. They only see dollar signs. It really scares me, ADT or Defenders had no idea what was happening with my alarm panel. What if I was being held hostage or there was a real emergency? Just a very scary thought. I do not recommend Defenders or ADT.
The installation took several hours, but we did cover all entries plus motion, so we were satisfied. Our installer did a fine job of explaining things and setting the system up.
We would not hesitate to recommend ADT.
Defenders is an ADT contracted company. Both ADT and Defenders runs a bait and switch operation. They mislead and withhold information on their ads and then do completely different things. For example, my contract says 48.99 + tax which would be around $52, but my account was charged 57.99. We were also told that there was no installation fee and all of the equipment would be covered since we are new customers, but once the tech arrived at our home he drilled a hole in our wall AND then told us that it would e $1500 for all of the equipment. In NY and as part of the contract, you have 3 business to cancel services. We have faxed the required cancellation letter every single day multiple times and every time we call them to double confirm that they got our letter they mysteriously hang up on us. They also claim that we have to talk to ADT while ADT claims we have to talk to Defenders. All in all, they are doing everything in their power to stop people from cancelling within 3 days for the full money back garantee. Avoid both ADT and Defenders at all costs. They are a complete fraud. I can't believe they have an A on Revdex.com. They are insult to all businesses.
