Dear Revdex.com,In resolution to this matter, our records reflect that Mr. [redacted] selected an H&R Block do-it-yourself (“DIY”) tax preparation product to prepare his own 2016 tax return and selected a Federal Refund Transfer (“RT”) within the DIY product. A Federal RT allows clients...
to receive their federal refund via check, deposit to H&R Block Emerald Prepaid [redacted]® or directly deposited into the clients external checking/savings account without having to pay anything out-of-pocket. Records reflect that Mr. [redacted] chose direct deposit for both his Federal and State refunds and entered two different routing and account numbers on both his Federal and State returns, as such Mr. [redacted] refunds were deposited to the banking accounts accordingly. Mr. [redacted] contacted our customer service department in April 2017 to advise that the information he referenced on his tax return was incorrect. In a good faith effort to assist Mr. [redacted] in tracing his tax refund, a Hold Harmless letter was forwarded to the banking institution where the funds were allegedly deposited. We advised Mr. [redacted] that we could not guarantee the bank would return the funds and that it would be his responsibility to work directly with the bank to resolve his dispute.We assure you that we take the concerns of our clients seriously and make every effort to resolve matters thoroughly and fairly. I am rejecting this response because:I reject this response because they are not attempting to correct this issue. I was offered a check of $112. The correct amount would be $434. I will accept nothing less and I am willing to take this as far as I need to. I am not the only one with a complaint against this company. If there would have not been a mistake by H&R Block the IRS would have been released my money. BevBeca H&R Block made a mistake, my refund has been delayed; solely because of H&R Block. They are responsible and should refund my fess in the amount of $434. Nothing less than that will be accepted. I will be paying reviews everywhere I see H&R Block online and will submit my complaint to my local news station so they can investigate why H&R Block is overcharging customers and messing up refunds. This has caused a financial hardships and I have had to request a Tax Advocate. H&R Blocks refusal and blatant denial of THEIR mistake has caused me this hardship and I request my fees of $434 returned to me and I will not stop until they are. Regards, [redacted]

Dear Revdex.com,In resolution to this matter, our investigation reflects that Mr. [redacted]’s complaint is against a franchise office which has the responsibility to resolve this matter with your office and directly with the client. Records reflect that Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] withdrew money from...
their retirement account to pay for education expenses. During the tax interview, Mrs. [redacted] advised the tax professional that the funds were used towards private school tuition. As such the tax return was prepared based on this information and a 10 % penalty was accessed as the client’s are under 59 ½.According to the franchise office, it was later suggested by Mr. [redacted] that in addition to private school tuition the monies were also used towards college tuition which is a qualifying educational expense that is deductable. At which point, the return was amended at no charge and the additional information was added to the tax return. As a result of the amended return, the [redacted]’s received their penalty amount back from the IRS. It is the franchisee’s belief that reimbursement of tax preparation fees are not warranted in this case as the return was prepared correctly with the information provided during the initial tax interview. We trust this response will allow your office to close your file. I am rejecting this response because:The issue has not yet been solved. H&R Block says that they are working to solve it, but this is also what they said 11 months ago, and not a year later, I am still dealing with this hassle. I expect the complain to remain open until there is a resolution and the State of NY agres that I do not owe them any money. Kindly ask that H&R Block reply to let me know once this has been resolved, and I would like this in writing to show a zero balance.

Dear Revdex.com,In response to this matter, our records reflect that Mr. [redacted] received an IRS letter dated 2/2016 concerning his 2014 tax return and contacted his local H&R Block office sometime around 3/2016. The IRS notice implied that his 1099R and W2 incomes were understated...
on the original return. Upon review of this information, Mr. [redacted] tax return was amended to include the missing information which resulted in a balance due for federal as there was no return for the state. The review also showed that the tax professional inadvertently duplicated one stock sale and omitted one stock sale and once the amended return was prepared we confirmed the oversight did not affect the balance due and/or cause any additional tax liability. Mr. Wlodarksi purchased H&R Block's Peace of Mind® Extended Service Plan (POM) and as such a claim has been submitted for review. Please be advised that a POM review can take up to 4 to 6 weeks for review. Once a decision has been determined Mr. [redacted] will be notified. Dear Revdex.com complaint, In further review of Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] tax file, H&R Block’s Peace of Mind® Extended Service Plan (POM) was in fact not offered to our clients with the 2014 amended tax return for such reasons as the original tax return was not prepared by H&R Block. Per the terms and conditions of the plan which has been attached for further review states in part: POM does not apply to amended returns (1040-X) unless the H&R Block error at issue is a result from the error in the original tax preparation…. As matters relate to this case, H&R Block did not prepare the original return and as such POM coverage was not offered. Our apologies for our prior statement which suggested that Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] declined H&R Block Peace of Mind Extended Service Plan. To provide additional clarity, Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] 2014 amended tax return is not covered under POM but is covered under our standard guarantee. We encourage Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] to notify the tax office immediately with any correspondence they may receive in the future. If H&R Block made an error we are committed to making the situation right and our due diligence is to assess the notice and work with our client’s to provide a swift and amicable resolve. I am rejecting this response because: I was never given that number and furthermore when I called the emerald card number to ask why the amount was taken out they could find nothing. I have contacted the attorney general in Indiana and they will be contacting your office. You have yet to produce anything signed by myself or my husband with all of this information you are giving me. This supposed debt is from 9 years ago prior to our marriage and the tax return you took it from belonged to me as well. I would assume the attorney general's office will let me know the legality of your debt collection practices.

At that time I informed Ms. [redacted] that I did in fact have the credit but I had sold the property in May of 2014. Due to her inexperience she did not know that additional information would be needed before filing my 2014 taxes. I provided all the information the tax preparer needed to complete my taxes properly, it was due to her inexperience and being left alone in an office that resulted in the amendment. This matter has held up filing my 2015 taxes and I feel I am due a full refund of what was paid to complete my 2014 taxes.

Dear Revdex.com, In resolution to this matter, our investigation reflects that our digital support associate contacted Ms. [redacted] directly and requested her data file which is necessary to initiate a calculation claim process. During this process, the user’s entries are reviewed and...
compared to IRS documentation and client documentation to ascertain how the taxes were prepared by the program. In this case, the IRS documentation CP2000 (Notice) lists the sources of income the IRS asserts were not properly submitted (namely, a 1099-R distribution code 7, and a 1099-G for unemployment) and the user entries (recorded in the user submitted data file) are also examined to discover if the discrepancy is a result of program calculations or user entries. Records show that Ms. [redacted] represented the 1099-R as a Qualified Roth IRA distribution “Code Q” whereas the IRS documentation indicates the income is a normal distribution “Code 7”. Additionally, records show that Ms. [redacted] also failed to enter the unemployment income entirely. We explained to Ms. [redacted] that in the event we discovered our software was at fault, we would pay penalties and interest per the terms of the Software End User License Agreement, however, Ms. [redacted]e declined to pursue matters further. As a client service gesture, we offered free software for next year to which she also declined.
