Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

I made an ACH payment from my checking account to my Sam's Club Credit Card in the middle of the month because I wanted to use the card again and it was too close to the limitI was going on a trip and wanted to use the card because of the rewards The card is issued by Synchrony Despite getting my payment on the 5th (Tuesday) the payment isn't cleared today (Friday the 8th) I called customer service and after a ridiculous and nonsensical run around with the automated phone system I finally got lucky and got to talk to someone When the csr couldn't tell me why the payment was being held or when it would be released I asked for a managerAfter a five minute wait I spoke with a manager who also couldn't tell me anything She told me that the information wasn't on her screen She suggested that the payment might be being held because I made two payments in a month I said if that's the case I won't do that again but she reminded me that she doesn't really know whether that was the reasonI pointed out that if she didn't know why the payment was being held then she doesn't know that it isn't being held by mistake"Oh it's not being held by mistake," she says not realizing the implication of the statement I then asked what department could tell me why it's being held and when it was would be released and she said she didn't knowI was left with no idea if I did anything "wrong" or if it was the bank's mistake I guess I'll just have to make a call every time I want to use the card? Not good - I'll be using a different card

Terrible! I bought a bed and told there would be no interest yet there is! And I set up for auto payThey havnt been taking it out so I'm behind on payments and now I've been trying to pay and I was put on hold for min the first time, they hung up on me the second, sent to a nonexistent number the third, and they hung up on me again on the 4th cause you can't hear what they say at all!!

I opened a GE Money account in when I bought wedding rings for my spouse and me, that was eventually converted to Synchrony That account was set up on autopay and was paid diligently for approximately the last nine years Last summer I opened a new Sunglass Hut account for a promotion on a new pair of sunglasses and it was also through Synchrony I purchased the sunglasses and all was well Being that the other Synchrony account had been set on autopay for so many years, I thought that my new account had been as well I even received notification in February that my credit line had increased and thought, "great." That was until my wife and I decided to purchase a new car and I checked my credit score As it turns out, my Sunglass Hut/Synchrony card was not on autopay, and despite increasing my credit line in February 2016, Synchrony sent a day late report this month to the credit reporting agencies as well I paid the entire balance (a whopping $and some change) and the card now has a $balance I called Synchrony to ask if they could fix the credit mark because of the mistake and because surely they would look at my exemplary payment history with them since and the fact that I paid the entire balance on the Sunglass Hut card - but I was told that there is nothing they can do At the close of the call I was told that they appreciate my business, but their actions belie that sentiment Long story short, I bought a pair of sunglasses and all I have to show for it is a lowered credit score thanks to Synchrony But for the fact that it would likely lower my credit score more, I would close both accounts

I have a CareCredit card which I used for a medical expense Not only did I make payments on time, but I paid more than the minimum payment amount so I could pay it off within a year with no interest I received a letter in the mail stating they closed my account due to my credit history, not with them, but with other accounts, some of which are old and disputed or paid off That's ridiculous! Its going to have a negative impact on my credit score which I have been trying to improve!

I have had several bad experiences with this bank since they have taken over the Sam's Club check card programAbout every weeks my card get declined and I am locked out of the websiteI have called the customer service (That's a joke-they should call it no service) number at least times and they are the worst I have ever dealt withEach time I call they say they need to review purchases for potential fraudThe charges have always been good and in the local area of my homeThe charges they are questioning are ridiculously small i.e$at McDonaldsIt seems they have purchased credit card businesses from several other entitiesMy suggestion is to do what I am in the process of doing, that is cancelling any credit card that is purchased by Synchrony

I had a Lowe's Credit Card for almost years until this bank took overI always pay my credit cards as soon as or shortly after the purchases post to my account, because I always have the moneyI never missed any payments and was never lateI closed a bank account at Suntrust and opened one at ChaseI added the Chase account to my Lowe's credit card account and made a payment and the payment was about a month earlyI thought I was making the payment on the new Chase account that I added, but it was made on the closed account by accidentAs soon as I saw that it had been returnedI immediately called the phone number on my credit card and told them what happenedThe lady said there is no penaltyI then made the payment on the Chase account as soon as it was possible and it posted on July 26th and I had a zero balanceOn July 29th they closed my account due to payment being returned and sent me a letterI called them and told them I could care less about them closing the accountI have a 100% on time payments on my credit report and the on time is paying it off, not owing anythingI have never paid interestMy FICO credit score is They will never get another chance at giving me a credit card

Yesterday (10/10/2014) I contacted Synchrony re: a past due amount on my Banana Republic Visa card that I was unaware ofThe rep was nice enough to waive the $late fee and on some additional appeal the interest charge of $I had already paid the full amount owed and the rep said that I would see the credits on my next statementAs far as I was concerned, that was the end of what I considered an amicably resolved matterToday I discovered that Synchrony reported my account delinquent yesterdayNo mention was made of this when I spent minutes over the phone with the rep arriving at the resolution mentioned above
I think Banana Republic should reconsider its contract with SynchronyGE's successor seems more interested in punitive measures than cultivating customer serviceI will rethink my shopping at Banana Republic and certainly the use of Synchrony credit cardsI hope the punitive measures employed by BR and Synchrony prove more worthwhile than lost business from this consumer

I hope people are reading these commentsNotice not one positive comment! Well mine isn't one either! NEVER, NEVER again will I do business with GE Capital! What really gets me, besides the high interest, is how they keep 'lowering' my credit limitYou read that right, LOWERINGI pay more than my minimum most of the time, every month and 'twice' they have lowered my credit limit! Do you know what that does to your credit report? My bank says that it showed that I owed more than half of my credit limit, which hurts your creditI get my balance down and they lower the limitDon't use this to build credit because it will only hurt it! I also had a problem with paying online, in the beginningDon't try to do it the day before your payment is due because you won't get through on the phone to someone in timeJust stay away from this...you've been warned, from many!

They dropped my credit limit for PayPal supposedly due to my ' overall credit score ' but I have been faithfully making all payments on time from day oneThis is how good customers are rewarded! Never have been late with either card ' managed ' by SynchronyI am seriously considering paying off both cards as soon as is possible and then canceling themThe entities that are behind most cards are predatoryThey prey upon people without perfect credit and are fully aware from the get go that you are trying to make a fresh startThen, they ignore your good history with them to take punitive action against you that has nothing to do with the good payment history that you have with themApparently, people with perfect overall credit who are able to monthly pay off their accounts are also targetedI am also sick of Americans being forced to deal with customer service reps from India etcthe accents are too difficult to understand over the phoneThree words for such customer treatment: Class Action Suit

Deseptive practices used for every interactionVery difficult to access statements when I finally found where to accees the statement it was extremely difficult to access my account because I did not know my login info and the credential recovery process was very convolutedI finally accessed my account and paid the statement in full and closed the accountA few weeks later I received a past due noticeI called and they told me I choose to delay they payment (I am assuming there was some hidden button or input field specifying thast my payment would not be trandferd until after the due dateStay away from any offers from Synchrony you will regret it

I have a gap/old navy card since and have made always payments on time - used it for my grandkids and kids bdays and christmasI recieved a letter stating they had closed my account because they did a hard inquiry on my creditI have a credit card that I had let my daughter use and we are in the process of handling thatBut How can this company close my account because of another card that does not belong to them! I have paid my old navy bill always on time and made sure there was no balanceI can see if I never paid itThat is just unfairI will not shopping at all stores that this bank associates withJust really unfair

Synchrony bank is the worst ever, horrible customer service, many hidden fees, stay away and close all cards

While I am sure that most reviews of any business are generated by negative experiences, customers should also submit comments when they receive outstanding service and considerationThis is one of those rare positive reviews: I have been with MetLife Bank that then changed to GE Capital that later changed to SynchronyEach bank's procedures have been somewhat different as far as offerings and proceduresSince Synchrony took over, I have been dealing with *** *** *** (xXXXXXXX)She has been great; she is knowledgeable, efficient, does what she says she will do and always responds to her voice mailThere are many banks out there, offering the same or equivalent accountsThe personal service quality is what separates the positives from the negativesSynchrony is fortunate to have *** *** representing their bankSincerely, *** *** ***

Beware Through some confusion the automatic payments I set up on my Sam's club charge did not function properly and were not paidI even made what I thought were two separate extra balance payments of $and $200, on a balance of less than $This all happened at about the same time that GE became Synchrony and my online account access had disappearedA few months later my Sams card quit workingI found out that my account was in default so I asked the phone agent why they were not getting my automatic payments and what I could do to remedy this and get caught upShe informed me that there were no records of an auto-pay but just making a $payment would bring my account "current" againI figured that anyone can make a mistake ...them or me, so I paid what she requestedUpon attempting to make my payment the following month I noticed that my account was still closed so I opened up the online chat and was informed that my account was never going to be reopened and they were sorry for the confusionThere was no confusion, it was a blatant lie

I purchased an item on special promotional pricing (no interest/mos) and made well over the minimum payments to ensure the bill was paid in full well before the expiration dateI made every payment on time, paid by check (mailed USPS), including the final paymentSame process as alwaysBecause it was mailed in late November (due date Dec 10) which spilled into the busy holidays, I didn't notice that it didn't clear my account until the bill I just receivedThey "magically" didn't receive the final payment that would have closed this account, hit me for a late fee, and the check is still out there somewhere, which of course they will eventually cash once this 'late payment with late fee' is paid (I paid online this time) - I guarantee youThen, I'm sure it will take 6-weeks to process a refund because they 'need to research the issue.' These banksAnd that's not even including the possibility that they will report a late payment on my credit reportNOTHING is worth promotional pricing if it comes with shoddy businesses like this one

I have accounts with this bank and have had very poor experiences with them I was told one account had the credit limit reduced due to my derogatory credit history with Transunion but their "decision" affected my credit score as well because they made my limit $over my balance I have always been a good customer and even kept this account paid in fullalthough I understand this may be in the credit card agreement, it should also be that if your account is in good standing and you have no problems paying anything else going on with your credit should not matterAlso, I had an account that was closed due to the company changing cards and then there was money charged on the account that I had to spend hours disputing before it was finally handled I would say unless you really are desperate run from them like you are on fire

I have an Amazon store card that's administered by Synchrony FinancialI use the card for interest-free financing for big ticket itemsThe last time I used the card, I bought some camera equipment, and paid the balance in full within the interest-free period
I also have an Amazon Prime accountI use it to order TV programs on an on-demand basisWhenever I order anything on Amazon TV, it gets billed to my debit cardHowever, when I started a subscription to the Starz network, the fee (8.99), which recurs every month, was charged to my Synchrony Amazon store card(btw: It was also charged to my debit card.) Because I was under the impression that my Synchrony account was at a zero balance, and because I assumed that these fees were charged to my debit card, I never checked my Synchrony account balanceThe thought just never occurred to me, and because it was at a zero balance, it was logical not to be concerned with it
So, my Synchrony account went past due for three monthsI wasn't made aware of the overdue paymentsI never received any notification from SynchronyI only found out about it when I was notified that my FICO score had changedPrior to that, I'd never been late with a payment to my Synchrony Amazon store card(In fact, I've never been late on any of my credit accounts.) But Synchrony saw fit to notify the credit agencies that I was days past dueThat is a serious derogatory on my credit report, and it's probably going to be extremely difficult to get it removed
Since this happened, I've noticed a huge number of complaints on the Internet lodged against Synchrony FinancialSo, I'm wondering if there is enough of a critical mass to initiate a class action lawsuitOr, is this already in the works? Does anyone know of a class-action being filed against Synchrony? If so, I would like to hear about it so I can add myself to the suitAny information you can provide would be most appreciated

I deposited $20,in a high yield (laugh) savings accountAfter several months I needed part of that money to make a large purchase I put in for an online transfer to my external bank account, and after days of watching for it, I called customer service to see why it wasn't transferred The woman said it was because my account was locked due to an ATM card being returned to them I hadn't even asked for an ATM card and knew nothing of what she was talking about She said she would unlock the account and I could request a transfer again after business days, which I did(Can anyone tell me why it takes business days to make a few clicks on the computer to unlock an account??) Now, a week later, I'm still going online each night to find that there is no record of a transfer request, so I make the request again each time It is impossible to get customer service during the day because I've been unable call during the eastern time zone hours they are open Believe me, as soon as I get this straightened out, I am going to take ALL of my money out of Synchrony Bank

So I called to make a payment on a Saturday with the automated systemThey only do checking information and would not direct me to am agentSo I go online to use that account and make a paymentIt was locked, so I called again to unlock it and just got the automated system and no help with unlocking the accountIt said it would send me instructions through email and never didSo I have to wait till Monday to make a payment after wasting over an hour with their call system shaddock is total crap

I owpened a Lowes Credit card in Aug I've sent this company three letters stating I never received the card I tried to communicate on the phone with them but after minutes of them unable to explain why my $balance was not $I decided to close the account This took another minutes and ended with me being so upset I used to do all my home repair shopping at Lowes Synchrony Bank is the worst busniess I've ever had to deal with, any bank that can't answer the question why a charge is on an accout is not a very good manager of peoples funds I recommend you stay away from this bank at all cost
