On December 13, 2017, *** from Superior Heating and Cooling came to diagnose why the blower would come on from initiating the control from the thermostat but no heat or hot air would come through the vents when it was set on heat only cold air. I told him that there was heat blowing through the vents before but at that time cold air. There was no loud noise at all. I asked for an itemized breakdown and when I turned around to get the boxes he ran out to his service vehicle. I stated I needed the information on the items per the boxes. *** purposely went out to the car stating he had the parts and no other repairs were needed. Purposely no further information was given. Afterwards he gave me a slip then asked for payment. *** stated he had been making service calls for decades and capable of making the repairs.
Service Call breakdown on slip *** dated 12/13/17 includes as follows:
Service Call $48----Diagnostic Charge $20---Control Board Installed $629---Thermostat installed $159----Labor $30 Limited Warranty Parts Installed 90 days Service Call 14 Days (On original repair only) Total $886.
These are the notes at the bottom of service slip: Found control board bad and thermostat pins bent also need to move condensate pump down 12”and install 1’ of drain line to pump. Returned checks subject to a service charge. Signature below constitutes acceptance of above service performed as being satisfactory – and that the equipment has been left in good condition.
*** ran out of my house very fast and never provided the boxes or the replacement parts. The only item I saw was new was the *** thermostat. At this point he stated there were no other issues (no other issues recorded on slip).
Then less than 10 days later the house was without heat again blowing cold air same as before now with a very loud disturbing noise heard from the basement to the top floor of my home. I have the same issue as before and I paid in full $886 when presented with bill.
Now same problem with the addition of a loud noise never there before (been in home since 2008) so I know the nuances of this house. This service was inadequate and now expecting a rain and snow mix later this week and unable to turn on system due to noise disturbing neighbors.
I called and their office arranged for the same service person to return which was *** that stated I now need a *** furnace blower wheel and *** furnace flame rollout limit switch. That service call on 1/6/2018 was $68 and the diagnostic charge was$30 totaling $98. On the slip 174654 includes dated 1/6/18 as follows: Trans. ***, Auth. ***, will call customer with price of parts, found furnace out on main, limit, check filter clean and inspected A-coil and [(ds) illegible could be rls] clean, main limit weak also blower wheel making noise and shaking, will have to call *** mfg. for prices on blower wheel and limit. Returned checks subject to a service charge. Signature below constitutes acceptance of above service performed as being satisfactory – and that the equipment has been left in good condition.
I asked how much it would cost and he stated he would call me and inform me of the prices. When I called after 1/6/18 he stated he did but did not leave a message on my voicemail. Then I called the office again when I did not hear from him concerning the price. *** then stated the overall cost would total about $ 421. When asked for prices of parts never given only provided installation, labor cost and total. Because *** never provided the boxes or the itemized cost as evidence of necessary items replaced I went in search of cost. *** furnace blower wheel and the prices range from $31.70 -$68.59 and a *** furnace flame rollout limit switch and the price was $7.80. Also after my research, I found the *** Furnace Control Panel (board) priced from-$48.99- $73.99 and the *** thermostat price ranges from$16- 39.80. He did not work for hours. *** was on the telephone because I could hear him talking to another man and his work resulted in about less than an hour. I felt that this was an orchestrated shakedown. I voiced my concerns when communicating with *** on 1/8/2018 and he was resistant and repugnant. These actions should not be condoned and I am asking your office to move forward with stern action and a return of all of my money for poor workmanship along with destruction of property for monetary gain. I feel I have been scammed and system altered for extortion. I am requesting an investigation and a make whole remedy for these grievous willful harmful actions. I look forward to communication concerning resolution. Please reply promptly because I want others to know how this company operates and deter suspicious defrauding activity against women and individuals over 55 years of age. I paid in total $984. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Dear Revdex.com, please see our response below. There are several details the customer left out.
Superior’s Service Tech was there on December 13, 2017 and found that both the control board and the thermostat were bad. The service ticket is attached for the work that was performed and was signed by the customer, proving the system was in good working order when he was done with repair.
We did not hear from customer again until 1/6/18... which is 24 days later, not 10 days as customer states.
The issue customer had on 1/6/18 had nothing to do with the original repair made. It is a completely different problem, with equipment that is 16+ years old. See service ticket for 1/6/18 attached. It states found furnace out on main limit. Also, blower wheel making noise and shaking. Service Tech told her he would get the prices from *** on Monday, January 8, 2018 and call her.... which he did. Service Tech quoted an installed price of $225.00 for the blower and $187.00 for the main limit. Customer refused repair.
Customer was told both times that Service Tech went there how much the service call would be. Customer knew how much the parts (installed) would be before the repair was made on 12/13/17, and signed both tickets.
We use flat rate pricing for replacing parts. That is a installed price, for both the part and the labor charge. We do not break out parts and labor charges. We never have in the 45+ years we have been in business. The policy is the same for all customers.
Customer originally contacted us for on 12/13/17 for an estimate on a new furnace and AC. We sent our estimator out, at no charge, and provided the estimate. She told our estimator that the AC was not working, which is why she thought the furnace was blowing out cold air. Customer stated she could not afford new equipment and opted for us to send a service technician out to repair.
Equipment does not appear to have been installed by a reputable HVAC contractor as it is not sized correctly for the duct work or the house size.
Superior does not feel customer is owed any money back. On 12/13/17 we made a repair and the system was working. On 1/6/18 we made another service call and diagnosed the new problems, which we should have been paid for.
Customer is making very slanderous comments about Superior for no valid reasons, which needs to stop immediately.

I am rejecting this response because:
-the new problem was not detected when the HVAC professional first inspected the furnace and did the diagnostic test.
-and parts and workmanship are warrantied for 90 days and it has not been 90 days yet.
-I still have the original problem of no heat.

Customer states it all when in her first sentence she states... the NEW problem. The new problem occurred 24 days after we repaired the furnace. The customer had heat when we made the repair for the original problem. The new problem has nothing to do with the repair made on December 13th, 24 days earlier.
Customer is not stating the truth with regard to limited warranty... on the bottom of the service tickets she signed (attached) it actually states... “Parts installed – 90 days, Service Call – 14 days (on original repair only). Again, the new problem has nothing to do with the repair made on December 13th.
We just inherited another contractor’s problems, since the unit is oversized for the size of the house and duct work. Customer knew the AC did not work... hence the reason she originally called for an estimate on new equipment.

I am rejecting this response because:
-it is not a "New" problem.
-it was part of the original problem and their fix only lasted less than 24 days.
-I still have no heat; I have additional issues with the furnace due to the service person's negligent work on the furnace.
-Their service person was not competent to work on the furnace.
-I would like a refund of the money I have spent so far so that I can find another competent repair company.

I have been using Superior for several years now to handle all my heating or cooling issues and have always been 100% satisfied. Today they installed a complete new heating and cooling system in my home. The Servicemen were polite, worked quickly, cleanly and were very clear on instructions in the use of the new thermostat. Our furnace went out on New Yrs Eve so I left a voice mail before midnight. Superior called us the next morning and had repairman out within 4 hrs. on Jan 1 holiday. By Jan 2 we had a new furnace so they did a great job for us.

I had a BRYANT gas designed furnace installed on December 8th. I am so glad I did because shortly after we had -0 weather. The installer was professional and answered my questions about my new furnace. The warranty on the unit is 20 years. I would recommend their service to friends and family. WARM WINTER FOR ME.

Scheduling for Superior’s service was good but I think I should have been told that my furnace would NOT be serviced for the winter. *** (service tech) was friendly, professional and answered all of our questions. My first disappointment was that I thought my furnace was going to be cleaned and prepared for the winter (as per past experience). I didn’t realize that the “$67 Fall Special” only checked the furnace. In my 35 years of home ownership, I never heard of this non-service and this experience makes me feel stupid (to have fallen for another bad deal). Then, the tech told us how much it would take (over $300) to fix what he recommended. This was better than the company we had June 2017 who made a couple of A/C changes without telling us the cost . . . THEN charged us $574. My second disappointment was Superior’s estimate for a new furnace and A/C which was 60% more ($3,025 higher) than the install I did for a similar home in the neighborhood June 2016. I keep learning life lessons – I only hope I don’t run out of money before I know it all.
I had used their services before when I had a problem with my air conditioning and was very satisfied. When we started having problems with our home heating system, I felt I could trust them to be honest in their cost and skilled in their knowledge. The technician came out and showed us the several areas where there was a problem and left it up to us to decide to repair or replace. We chose to replace and a couple more service men showed within a short time and replaced our heating system with a new system. Very good customer service. We live in a st. Louis county municipality that requires inspections from our city hall. They came out today and approved the installation. They said they have consistently approved this company's installation. I am a very satisfied customer.

The person that gave us a quote was very knowledgeable. The people that installed the furnace and A/C came at 8:30am and the furnace and A/C was installed and working by 2:45pm on the same day. When you look at the work they did you can see it is a professional job. The price was reasonable and my house was warm within 45 minutes when they turned the furnace on. I would recommend this company for all your heating and cooling needs.

We had a HVAC system put in on 11/08/2017. Our installers were Rick, Kyle and J.B. They showed up on time and went straight to work. They were finished an hour ahead of schedule. We are very pleased with their work. They were able to answer all our questions and provide details of how all the equipment works. They were very organized and professional. Superior personnel showed up at the promised time. The three technicians introduced themselves and went to work. An efficient gas furnace, air conditioner with pad, and humidifier were installed within six hours. The operation of the humidifier was well explained. The crew left the premises in excellent condition.
