Planet Energy Reviews (135)

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
This is the same exact response as they previously replied with, which is missing the point!  The point was that it the company's practices are facetious and my account was NOT serviced for any length time based on all of the information provided by the salesperson at my door, the lady who called to verify, and the representative that processed the cancellation of my account. The company's responses to my complaints are totally invalid as they are avoiding the actual issues at hand. The company lied to a customer to get their business and is now avoiding that with an invalid response.  My account should not have been touched by them until the cancellation grace period was over which again (and by the saleperson's words, not started until the beginning of the NEXT month), was part of their criminal act that they are not responding to at all in these responses.  I cannot believe that a company that runs on lies and taking advantage of people cannot just refund me the $20 that they STOLE from me without my consent.  This is totally unreasonable!

Planet Energy appreciates the opportunity to respond via the Revdex.com forum.   Please be advised that Planet Energy records all calls to and from its customer service department.    The consumer entered into an agreement with Planet Energy in November, 2016.  Planet Energy contacted...

the consumer via outbound telephone call in order to conduct verification of the agreement with the consumer.  Planet Energy spoke with the consumer and the consumer confirmed entering into the agreement with Planet Energy, as well as the pertinent points of the agreement, including the rate and term of the agreement.  During the call, the consumer also rated Planet Energy’s representative a ten out of ten, with ten being the highest possible score.   The consumer stated that she could not understand the lady on the line and finally hung up.  Upon review of the verification call with the consumer, the consumer’s statement has been determined as non-factual.  The consumer completed the call in full, including questions being asked multiple times.  The consumer confirmed all questions, and completed the call in the normal course, including not hanging up on the representative.     As Planet Energy has been unable to substantiate the consumer’s statements, and has identified non-factual statements by the consumer, Planet Energy has determined the agreement to be valid.    Planet Energy can provide the consumer with multiple potential resolutions and the consumer is encouraged to contact Planet Energy to discuss further resolutions.

cancellation.  Planet Energy processed the cancellation of the account per the consumer’s request.   However, the consumer had begun service and billing within the period prior to cancellation with Planet Energy.  As a result, the consumer completed a billing cycle, and was cancelled without fee.   As a result, the consumers account transactions are valid.   However, Planet Energy understands the consumer’s concerns pertaining to billing, and as a good will gesture, will issue the consumer a good will payment of $45.83.   Should the consumer have further questions, please contact Planet Energy’s customer service department.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The company has not addressed the fact that their representative lied to us. Apparently the company routinely employs face to face fraudulent activity in their efforts to recruit customers. If they will not take responsibility for this, they can not be trusted in any other way. The company has rejected a United States Post Office change of address form in my wife's name. They claim to keep records, they have proof of this. They have also rejected tax documents, drivers liscnese and military documents in my name. They have rejected bank statements, credit card statements, utility bills, and rental agreements in my wife's name. They have no interest in acting in good faith with regards to allowing us to provide documentation that proves we have moved, rejecting either government documents or the documentation we have available to obtain government documentation. We have spoken to their customer service. They have refused to acknowledge the fact that their representative lied to us. They have rebuffed every effort to provide them with documents in good faith. They are correct in saying it will be September before we will be in a permanent location and in a position to provide a state drivers liscense in my wife's name. They Seem to know this. They have not told us that we will be given the time to provide the documentation. They have only threatened us with collections and rejected every good faith effort we have made to resolve the matter.

Planet Energy appreciates the opportunity to respond via the Revdex.com interface.   Please be advised that Planet Energy retains and records all calls into and out of its customer service department.    Upon review of the consumer’s account, Planet Energy noted some...

discrepancies.  The consumer contacted Planet Energy on September 15, 2016 to enquire about his bill, and was advised to contact the utility.  Planet Energy received a notification of cancellation of the consumer’s account on September 16th from the consumer’s utility.  This series of events is not in-line with the consumer’s statements.   Planet Energy sent the consumer notification of the cancellation on the same day.  The consumer contacted Planet Energy on September 20, 2016, wherein the consumer was then advised of the applicable early termination charges.  This series of events is not in-line with the consumer’s statements.   The consumer declined the various possible options to avoid termination charges, and on September 23, 2016 Planet Energy sent the consumer’s account to collections.  This series of events is not in-line with the consumer’s statements.   Planet Energy reviewed the consumer’s account and noticed some extreme irregularities regarding consumption.  These irregularities would cause dramatic shifts in the consumer’s bill.  For example, between June 3 to June 22, the consumer used approximately (as per the consumer’s utility), 472 kWh’s.  However, between June 23 and July 25, the consumer used approximately 1,013 kWh’s – representing an approximate 115% increase in the consumer’s usage, which would result in the corresponding increase in the consumer’s bill.  The consumer’s usage declined in later bills, however there are significant irregularities pertaining to that as well.    Planet Energy would be happy to discuss options to resolution for the consumer’s account should the consumer wish to speak with Planet Energy.

The agent stood on my porch and instructed me that I would receive a phone call, to agree to what they were saying and that the agent was no longer present. Right there is a complete breach of conduct. He stood on my porch and instructed me what to say to the woman on the other line (whom I could not understand...and that is on the recording) and then he proceeded to hit on me and make [redacted] comments. When I signed up with [redacted] energy a few days later, I was told that Planet Energy was removed from my account and that I would not have to pay a fee because I cancelled within the 10 day period. I never received a confirmation that the account was deactivated, however, I did receive a notice that [redacted] is now my new supplier. From that moment on, I assumed that [redacted] was my new supplier (I got the agreement and welcome packet in the mail confirming this) and that I did not need to do anything further with Planet Energy. I have attached the notice in which it states [redacted] is my new provider.

A salesman representing Planet Energy visited my elderly father and fast-talked him, then had him sign a blank electronic pad stating it was just to acknowledge the salesman had visited him. Wrong! It signed him up!!!! Deplorable. Of course, one should never sign something like that, without details, but this is truly taking advantage of my dad's state of mind. Shame on Planet Energy. I submitted an online inquiry, and to no surprise they never even called me. Shame again. They should not have an A+ business rating unless they resolve this poor practice.

[redacted]imes and had to call my gas company to ensure this service would be terminated. I find it appalling that you would offer me additional services. What you offer is nothing more than a scam. Trust me when I say, I will make every effort to ensure people know what as immoral company this is and how its sales tactics and salesmen to the top up are shady and deceitful.

on 09/06/16, two sales people from planet energy came to our door selling their product. They did say I could have the rate for 3 years, but never mentioned I would be locked up for 3 years and there would be cancellation fee. I called in on 09/07/16 to cancel my order. Planet energy should train their sales reps to fully disclose the contract to a customer on the spot instead of waiting for the customer to find out the truth later on.

Review: 2 reps came out to my house and were asking about my electric service. I told them that I had an application in for the CAP rate program as I am a low income person who is nearly disabled. I told them that I am a regular Cap program recipient. They said ok we will help you get a lower rate that will lock in blah blah blah. I was told I had 30 days to cancel by both the lady on the phone as well as the 2 salespeople. After they left I called [redacted] to check on the status of my CAP rate program application which was sent in like 2 months before this. I was told that I had been approved for the cap rate. My income as usual qualified me. I was happy. I asked them about planet energy and was told that if I changed suppliers and didnt use [redacted] that I wouldnt get the discounted electric rate on the CAP program. I immediately sent in a letter requesting in writing that I be removed from any program and not be held to the agreement since I was writing a letter canceling as it was going to affect my CAP rate. They did not mention this when they were trying to get me to join their company program. ANyhow I feel like since I canceled in writing via postal mail within the timeframe told to me. IN fact it was right away. It was less than a day that I wrote and sent the letter out to them canceling my service with them. Well. I got hit my 1st bill this month. It is well over 1,000.00 now. I did not have a bill that large before. I called [redacted] and asked why are they still showing as my supplier when I canceled in writing to them immediately after signing up. She said she wasnt sure they are a separate company and not associated with them. Anyhow I call in and ask what is going on with my account and advised that I sent a letter almost immediately after canceling said service and cannot understand what is going on. The rep was no help. I hung up....again I advised I did not want them to be my supplier. A few days later I received an email. Here is the email they sent me now charging me some ridiculous fee when I am not even a customer of them! I canceled long ago as far as I am concerned. January 27, 2016

Kristina R[redacted] ACTION REQUIRED!

Planet Energy (Pennsylvania) Corp. [redacted] Toll Free: ###-###-#### • Fax: ###-###-####Desired Settlement: I expect a full refund since I canceled services right away and do not expect to be charged any charge for not canceling when I did so in writing! I am a cap rate low income user who has been on cap for many years now. I advised these salespeople of this and they attempted to take advantage. Thank goodness that [redacted] is on the ball and informed me right away to cancel. When I realized at billing time that they still had not canceled my account with them I immediately called [redacted] a 3rd time and was told that I still wasnt on the cap rate program since they never fulfilled their end of the agreement by canceling my service immediately after receiving promptly my written correspondence canceling their service. I am too ill to go through the process of getting a shut off notice and waiting hours at crisis applying for a crisis grant to pay this balance that they charged after immediate cancellation of all services.

Response:

The consumer’s complaint has a number of non-factual statements, and contradictory statements within the complaint. For example, the consumer stated that she was applying for the CAP program, however also stated that she had been a long standing CAP program customer, for many years. The consumer stated that she contacted Planet Energy via mail and via telephone, however the consumer’s record does not contain contact records from the consumer. The consumer also stated that she was being billed by Planet Energy, however also stated that she was not a customer of Planet Energy. These statements are contradictory and non-factual. However, Planet Energy has confirmed that the consumer is a CAP customer. As such, Planet Energy has as a good will gesture, cancelled the consumer’s account without early termination charges. The consumer is not required to take further action for this to be in effect. Planet Energy has closed the matter as a resolved.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I am a cap rate customer however every year I have to be reviewed. I need to send in my income and reapply then they determine if I am able to be on the program and I am eligible based on my income at this time. I will remain a cap rate customer for 1 year then have to reapply usually in the fall. I also am a budget customer. Before Planet Energy became my electric company my bill was 0 now I was sent a bill in the amount of 700.00 and that was after a 246.00payment. Not only did I contact planet energy. [redacted] also did. They in fact contacted them because I was approved for the cap rate and if I have another supplier I cannot get the cap rate program. This is why I wrote a letter right away and googled the main office in Pittsburgh and that is where I sent the letter. There are no fallacies in my statement. I did exactly what [redacted] told me to do write a letter immediately and send it in writing to cancel their service or I couldnt get the cap rate which I was approved for as I said. Today I called [redacted] and was finally allowed to go back on the Cap Program. I have been off it since about September 2015 when my year was up and I resent a new application along with my income information. CAP rate is a low income program. Not everyone can be on it. Thank you for canceling the fee.

Please please beware of this door to door energy supplier. The will tell you anything to get you to sign up cause they are paid on commission. They told me and my husband that we could end service at anytime and when we weren't seeing the savings that were promised we called to cancel and it was $300 for our electric and $300 for our gas to cancel our supposed 5 yr contract. Totally scammers!
and a complaint from someone else... http://[redacted]

Review: The company misrepresented itself both by the information it gave, as well as leaving out key information.

We were approached by a member of the Planet Energy team in the fall. The man told us that our electric company ([redacted]) was overcharging us, and that they had received many complaints from the college students in the area. As a result, they were going door to door to offer their services, which they said would lower our rates. He explained that [redacted] was charging us 15 cents per kW, and that they could reduce what we were being charged down to 8 kW. He also told us that while our rates would never go up, if the set rate per kW decreased, our bill would decrease as well. He reiterated that it would never go above 8 cents per kW, which was roughly half of what he claimed we were paying. He had my boyfriend, since we live in the same apartment, sign on. We were under the impression they would reduce our bill while we were here.

However, after a recent ridiculously high bill from [redacted], we called and they claimed part of the problem was Planet Energy. They were NOT charging us the 8 cents per kW which was promised, but instead they are currently charging us 10.5 cents per kW. Not only did he lie about how much we would be charged, but the fluctuation of rates as well; [redacted] said they are currently charging 7.5 cents, so our rates should have decreased to 7.5 cents per kW. They never did. Additionally, the man NEVER stated that we were being entered into a contract. We are apparently locked in for three years, which we never would have signed on for had he told us, considering that as of this August (not even 1 year after he came to our door) we will be leaving the area due to us having finished our undergraduate courses.

I called Planet Energy about all of this, and the woman with whom I spoke (she didnt give me her name) was not aiding us in any way. She kept repeating the same things instead of answering our questions, and then tried to avoid talking to me due to the fact that I was not the name on the account, even though I had spoken to a representative in December with no problem. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she told me no, and that there was not a supervisor present in the building that day. The phone call ended with her hanging up on me after I swore due to my frustrations.Desired Settlement: We want our contract terminated, and without us having to pay a cancellation fee. We should NOT have to pay, considering they lied about their motives, lied about saving us money when in reality they are costing us more, and the man who came to our door (his name was Chris) spoke nothing about a contract, about being locked into it for three years, or that we would have to pay if we no longer desired their services. Planet Energy has consistently misrepresented their company and their motives,

Response:

The consumer ([redacted]) entered into an electricity supply agreement with Planet Energy on November 30, 2015. Planet Energy called Mr. [redacted] via outbound telephone call, after entering into the agreement with Planet Energy, in order to conduct a verification and quality assurance call. During the call, Mr. [redacted] confirmed entering into the agreement with Planet Energy. In the complaint, the complaint is filed by [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] is the account holder, and the party which entered into the agreement with Planet Energy, as well as the party which confirmed the agreement with Planet Energy. Mr. [redacted] confirmed the agreement was for a term of 3 years. The statement by Ms. [redacted] that Planet Energy, nor its representative did not state the agreement is for 3 years is non-factual. Mr. [redacted] confirmed the rate of the agreement. The statement by Ms. [redacted] that Planet Energy, nor its representative did not outline the rate of the agreement is non-factual. Mr. [redacted] also confirmed that he entered into an agreement with Planet Energy, as well as his cancellation rights. The statement by Ms. [redacted] that Planet Energy, nor its representative did not state that it was an agreement, is non-factual. Planet Energy acknowledges that the call from Ms. [redacted] involved inappropriate language from Ms. [redacted]. However, Planet Energy wishes to resolve this matter with the consumer. As a result of some of the non-factual statements made by the consumer, Planet Energy was not able to confirm the consumer’s statements in full. Planet Energy would like to resolve the matter with the consumer and understands the consumer’s concerns as well as apparent near term location changes. Planet Energy would be happy to provide the consumer with a variety of options which may better suit the consumer’s needs. Planet Energy would advise the consumer to contact Planet Energy in order to have a productive conversation.

Review: My 87 year old mother contacted [redacted]. to take my father's name off the account shortly after he died. [redacted]. assigned her a new account #. Several days later she received a call from a representative from her energy generation supplier, Planet Energy(PE). The PE rep told her that PE had been contacted by [redacted] about a change to her account and asked if she wanted to keep PE as her supplier. She said yes she did, that she had just changed the name on the account and been given a new account #. The PE rep asked for the new number and my mother was unable to find it so he asked her to call back with the #. My mother decided to wait until she got her next electric bill to check the new account # but before the bill came she got a letter from a collection agency stating that she owed PE $225. She called the collection agency to find out what the letter was about and the rep told her that if she didn't pay the money she would be sued by PE. She then called Planet Energy and was told that her account had been cancelled and that she owed them the $225 cancellation fee. She explained that she had not cancelled and the rep said that the account had been cancelled and would not give her further information. She was afraid of being sued so she paid the debt collector. When she told me the story I contacted PE on 11-10-15 and was told that because my mother had not called back with the account # within 2 weeks, that PE cancelled the account and immediately sent the fee amount to collections. They never contacted my mother by phone or mail to let her know that her account was being cancelled. I argued that since my mother had not cancelled the account and had not been notified that PE was cancelling the account she should not have been charged that cancellation fee and that she had paid the collection agency because she was an elderly woman on a fixed income and afraid of being sued. They agreed to reinstate her as a customer and refund her money. as soon as the energy flow began. It took several months and more phone calls to PE to correct misinformation between them and [redacted] but I was told by a PE rep that the energy flow began 1-15-16. He then said that proof of my mother's payment was required before she would be refunded. I emailed proof of her payment and was told by a PE rep on 1-27 and 2-4 that the refund had been approved but finance dept. had not yet issued the check. I called again on 2-23 and was told that I needed to send proof of payment. I again emailed the proof of payment but now believe that Planet Energy has no intention of refunding my mother's money even though she reinstated her contract.Desired Settlement: I expect Planet Energy to refund my mother's $225.

Response:

Planet Energy has reviewed the account and apologies for any confusion and troubles pertaining to the consumer’s account and process. Planet Energy can confirm that the account is now in good standing with Planet Energy. Planet Energy can also confirm that the consumer paid the early termination charges. The customer does not need to send any documentation to clarify payment. Planet Energy has attempted to contact the consumer and left a voicemail for the consumer. Planet Energy is issuing a reimbursement of the termination charges to the customer, in full, which the consumer paid. The consumer does not need to take any further action for this to take effect. Should the consumer have any further questions, they are advised to contact Planet Energy.

Review: I have called this company numerous times to cancel the service. They said its $265 to cancel so I asked to speak with a manager. Each time there is never a manager or supervisor there. They say they will call me back but no one every calls back. They are running this business charging us $265 to cancel a service but have no managers or supervisors there to help. I want to speak to a someone above the person who answers the phone. Someone who can actually answer my questions.Desired Settlement: I would like to speak with someone cause I was never told it was for 3 yrs or that if you wanted to cancel early it was $265.

The consumer was also provided with a Disclosure Statement, which in larger text than the document, outlines the cancellation fees, should the consumer cancel their agreement. Planet Energy is willing to offer the consumer a variety of options, some of which were presented during the call with Planet Energy’s manager. Should the consumer wish to discuss alternative options, Planet Energy will provide details of options to the consumer.

Review: Planet Energy came to my home on Saturday, July 16, claiming to work with [redacted] and [redacted] (my electric company). They said [redacted] would be raising rates, and their company was working with in order to lock in my current rate so I wouldn't have to face a hike in cost. They took a picture of my electric bill and assured me I would be receiving a letter from [redacted] guaranteeing my rate "lock". I never signed a thing, yet received an email shortly after the agent left with four attachments, one of which contained an "agreement" which had my name and date typed at the bottom, along with a customer signature square WITH a "signature" in it which was NOT mine (since, as I stated before, I had refused services and refused to sign any of their documents).Desired Settlement: I do not want my name connected to this business in ANY way, and I would like to know how to go about persecuting them for committing fraud and falsely signing MY name to an agreement.

Response: Planet Energy would like to thank the consumer for her feedback and review. Please be advised that the account has not, and will not be enrolled for services with Planet Energy. All of Planet Energy’s agreements require multiple steps in order to enroll with Planet Energy, including a positive verification call conducted with the consumer. Planet Energy contacted the consumer in order to conduct a verification call, however at the time of the call, the consumer requested to not be serviced by Planet Energy. Planet Energy processed a cancellation of the consumer’s account, informed the consumer, and the consumer acknowledged. As part of the process of enrollment, consumers are always provided with copies of agreements with Planet Energy, however this is only one step in the process of enrolling with Planet Energy. As the consumer did not complete the process, no enrollment was done. Planet Energy is investigating in full the consumer’s concerns and once again appreciates the consumer’s feedback.

Review: I signed up for planet energy [redacted] and [redacted] program with a door to door salesman. I was told I could opt out at anytime. After moving to a new house and getting a new [redacted] account the planet energy plan did not transfer as well. We received 2 bills without planet energy being involved. The called and asked us to put planet energy on again and so we did. Our next gas bill with planet energy on was triple that of our previous bill for the same amount of gas used. These plans are supposed to save money. I called to cancel the plan and they told me there would be a $375 cancellation fee. Who know how much money we have lost paying these crooks.Desired Settlement: Cancel account without paying the fee.

Response:

A door to door salesman came to my house this evening telling me in a very fast manner that he was "required" to gather my electrical supplier information. By the time he was done filling out his tablet, I realized it was a sales pitch. I point blank asked him if this was sales and he told me no!
Now I'm going to have to try and undo this mess. A company who allows its employees to lie is absolutely unscrupulous.
