While the customer service of PGT is excellent the glass materials they use in their products are inferior in my opinion. I spent over $22K on all brand new PGT sliding glass doors and had to have them replace 5 of my 12 glass panels already within the first year due to stress fractures and fogging/hazing within the glass panels. Now after only having one of my sliding glass door panels for less than 3 years it's developed a "stress fracture" within the glass panel that PGT will not honor to have replaced. It's spread across the glass diagonally and there's nothing I can do to hide it. The original sliding glass doors that I had replaced were over 30 years old and not one of them had a stress fracture within the glass so I'm still in disbelief that brand new modern PGT sliding glass door panels developed a stress fracture after less than 3 years!! I feel so cheated by a company that had no problem reassuring me of their warranties and that they would take care of everything prior to handing over $22K.
BUYER BEWARE!!
I have contacted this company over the past 4 months and received not one single response regarding our warranty claim.
We are having issues with our newly installed windows. In January of 2020 I began to attempt contacting this organization and gotten no one single response back from them. We have called, emailed, left voicemails and filled out their contact forms online and nothing. Our warranty clearly states the issue we are having is covered but seems to be impossible to get them to honor it. Simple problem, windows will not stay open and close anytime we attempt to open them.
As stated we have not heard anything since our initial submissions back in January timeframe. I have called every single month, wait on hold for 45 minutes just to be told "there was an error, please try your call again later". This is a major waste of my time hoding on a phone just to be disconnected. When reaching back out to the operator I am told there is nothing further they can do and am sent to a random voice mailbox. I have left well over 5 messages across different voicemails and still not heard a peep.
PGT to honor the warranty on their very expensive Hurricane Grade windows BEFORE the next hurricane season begins in June 2020. Least they could do since I have been contacting them since January and gotten not one single response back.
Good Afternoon,
The customer has been contacted by the Consumer Affairs Group and was assisted with resolving the warranty issue.
If you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to PGT Consumer Affairs at 800-282-6019
PGT claim that over three million units installed and no reported impact failures, WinGuard Impact-Resistant
To whom is this concern,
Hurricane protection is just the beginning. PGT claim that over three million units installed and no reported impact failures, WinGuard Impact-Resistant windows from PGT.
This was the reason why we have install PGT WinGuard Impact-Resistant windows from PGT.
We have install a PGT Wind-guard Impact-Resistant all windows in our house.
Only 1(one) window was a picture window and that became foggy.
It is Aluminum, " Series 701 " PGT and warranty is 20+ years.
The size of the window is Aprox. 68" wide x 48" high.
There is no label on the window. However, "PGT" is embossed on the next to it window lock.
Glass Technique did the installation in the April, 2007 which was 12 years ago.
We have called Glass Technique at (XXX) XXX-XXXX several times, but their phone is quiet or disconnected.

Good afternoon,
One of our Consumer Affairs Representatives will be contacting you to guide you on the next steps of resolving your warranty. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to our Consumer Affairs Department at ***
Thank you!
PGT is not covering a major Manufacturer defect in a sliding glass door. Glass is cracked and Its not covered after 1 year.
Nothing but problems with PGT customer service and dealers. I bought this newly constructed home with expectations that the high impact windows and doors were covered by a 10 year warranty. PGT and Dealer are stating that the cracked glass is not covered for more than a year. The door costs $1800 dollars to replace plus labor of $500. This is unprofessional due to the fact this is based on a manufacturer defect that they are highly aware of if they only cover it for a year. I will never recommend or buy from them again.
PGT should cover the cost of the door, period!
Document Attached***
Good afternoon,
Thank you for sharing your frustration, we're sorry that your experience was not what you expected. As per the PGT warranty attached, stress cracks are covered for a period of 1 year from the date the product shipped. Unfortunately this is no longer covered under warranty as it is over the 1 year time frame. We have also attached a guide on glass breakage to help better understand the causes of glass breakage.
If you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to our Consumer Affairs Group at 1-800-282-6019
Thank you
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
PGT should cover mfg defects and stress cracks are just that.
At least give the little guy a break instead of charging $2000.00 for a replacement.
My first and last experience with PGT. I will install another slider before I spend that kind of money again.
Good afternoon,
As this issues is not a manufacturing defect we will not be able to cover this under warranty. We will have one of our Consumer Affairs Representatives reach out to you to offer a courtesy discount on the replacement parts. They will provide you with the next steps on resolving this issue.
If you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to our Consumer Affairs Group at 1-800-282-6019
Thank you!
Have had PGT windows for 5 years now and absolutely love them!
Poor Service and Lack of accountability for CGI which is owned by PGT.
So this will be pretty long but I will sum it up some.
On 06/30/2018 I had a contracting company called Emil General Construction put an order in for me #*** $3,840.64 for the CGI Special Estate Entrances Single Door and side light. Tinted dark grey and hurricane impact. It took 4 months to get the door... when it arrived it was completely incorrect. No Tint, the door handle and lock didn't fit, and the glass seemed flimsy compared to my other door which is hurricane impact. So the frame was installed and was told CGI would come out and replace the glass and door knob. A month later they show up and do a horrible job with glue all over the glass and fixing the door knob which rattles. So after a while I don't go out my front door but I noticed a few things after the fact... One the glass still seemed flimsy and the door heats up from the sun really quickly. So after back and forth calls and with my contractor he told me I had to contact Lucy 305-593-6590 ext 60145 for help because its a warranty issue now. It's now Sept 18 2019 and after a back and forth of who job it is to fix my door she finally send the rep for South Florida Anthony. He shows up and checks the door Nov 2019 but his machine to check the width of the glass didn't work. I showed him the difference in the doors and how hot it got and the handle and lock. Anthony said he was going to come back and setup a date to fix it. No call back. I called up 6 times to CGI customer service and left 3 messages with the supervisor who never calls you back. When I spoke to the customer rep there they told me I had to go to the installer... I told them I already did and that I just needed Anthony to contact me on a date. She told me that they don't connect outside calls to the service department, that they call you. Here we are a year and half into it. The company just doesn't care about you. They took my money for the door and won't honor the quality of there work. I have a $3,840.64 door that rattles and probably isn't even hurricane impact.
Replace the glass / fix the door handle and lock. They should also pay for my time and annoyance of dealing with them but I bet that won't happen.
I will reach out to the customer to see about resolving his issue.
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Me and Barbara finally talked and she had Lucy order another door to fix the problem. So as long as that goes through I won't have an issue anymore.
Had door installed July 2019 not sealing right been getting the run around and lied too
Bought windows and a door. Door never sealed right not water proof. Purchased July 2019 had company that installed door come out and told me it's PGT probably so had the rep Rickardo come and told he would have a service guy come out and see if it could be adjusted and needs to be replaced this was December 3 I call Rickardo every week and every week is a different excuse and just flat out lies
To fix or replace my door
I will reach out to the customer today and see if we can resolve his issue.
Two of the three glass panels to my slider have broken seals after only four years and I would like to see PGT cover the cost of labor to replace.
My supplier sent a technician out to look at my slider and he determined two of the three panels needed to be replaced. These were installed Aug 2015 so fortunately they are still under warranty but my supplier quoted me $1500 in labor costs to replace. I tried to reach out to PGT thru their website form and did not receive a response. I called and spoke with someone that took all my information and said it would be passed along to Consumer Affairs and they would get back to me. I have not heard back from them but based on the other complaints I have been reading I expect I either will not hear from them or if I do they will refer me to the warranty which says labor is not covered.
It is obvious to me that there is a production issue with this product if it is failing so often in such a short period of time. To have two of three panels be affected causes concerns for me for all the other PGT products I had installed in this condo in 2015 and in my home in 2018. For a product that is premium priced to protect from "high impact" events, it's quality seems compromised. My request of $1500 labor coverage is small compared to some of the other recent complaints. I do hope PGT will reconsider it's "refer to the warranty" response and start making this right with their customers.
Cover the $1500 labor costs to replace SGD panels
Our records show someone from our consumer affairs department spoke to you on 1/29/2020 and then returned the call the next day on 1/30/2020. They discussed your issue and explained that our warranty covers the parts, but not the labor. I then reached out to the dealer, who then explained this replacement is on the 2nd floor, so that is why the cost is what it is. PGT is standing behind its warranty on this issue.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did speak with someone last week that told me everyone from consumer affairs had gone home for the day but she would take my information and have them get back to me. The next day, the same person called me back and basically took the same information again and told me, again, that someone from consumer affairs would get back to me. This was the only communication I had with PGT until your response to this complaint. j
PGT is on record on this website as having covered labor as an exception and we respectfully request the same treatment. Surely you understand our reluctance to pay for labor for a product which we have little confidence in the replacement and/or all our other PGT windows/doors having the same issue.
Our warranty does cover the cost of the part, in your case glass,as stated in our warranty. It clearly states labor is not covered under the section Insulating Glass Unit. Please refer to our warranty for coverage.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
this is a widespread quality issue for which PGT should be covering labor costs regardless of what warranty states. As it is a safety issue, I must replace these four year old sliders so I'll be paying the $1500 to do so...but NO I don't accept their resolution.
PGT warranty states clearly what it will cover under its warranty, and labor is not included. I would direct you to our website: pgtwindows.com where you can read it in its entirety.
PGT is not holding up to warranty terms
I found cracks in my pgt windows. I called pgt and upon request I submitted pictures. It was determined they would warranty windows. That was in October three months ago. Now when I call whoever is handling is never there and no one knows whats going on with claim. They won't return phone calls and majority of time I get transfered to warranty dept but time out on hold (45 minutes). They have horrible communication with customers. I'm in contarct with another company to install siding but can't due to windows. They are about to add 3% to my total cost due to delays from windows. Windows cost $500 each. I wish I would've used another brand.
Stand behind their warranty in a timely manner
I will contact the home owner to follow up on issue.
We have a PGT window with a broken seal. We contacted PGT requesting a replacement under the warranty. Repeated requests, no results.
Broken seal on PGT window in house built 17 years ago for us by *** in Sarasota. PGT warranty is 20 years.PGT says they need code from label on window. There is no label. However, "PGT" is embossed on the widow lock. They asked which vendor the builder used. We contacted the builder, learned the vendor Reflections Glass is out of business. Conveyed that info to PGT, who then said they need our exact address, which we provided. Have heard nothing, have left repeated messages with their Consumer Affairs Department. In a early conversation, their rep said she would speak with her manager, but we have heard nothing since then
Want replacement window. We pay for labor to install, as per Warranty
We will reach out to home owner.
Failing seals that are allowing moisture to get in between the panes of my PGT impact windows causing them to fog up!
I purchased 24 PGT impact windows from Alpha Window & Doors in Pompano Beach on October 2013. In the first year, five of the windows had to be replaced due to glass defects and moisture getting between the panes of the glass. Since under warranty, Alpha replaced the windows at no charge. Since this time, I have had eleven more windows fail. Alpha did order the replacements in 2018 and told me that they were going to install them at their costs and that PGT agreed to pay for the boom lift cost. Since agreeing to this, Alpha Window & Doors filed for bankruptcy and I can't get PGT to stand up to the plate and pay for the installation of their failed glass. I have been in contact with area reps from the company and also their consumer service people. They are telling me that the windows are still under warranty to be replaced, just the glass, but that I need to pay for the labor to have them installed. One of their distributors in the area came by and gave me an estimate of $8,000. As I went on your Revdex.com page today, I noticed that a complaint similar to mine was posted on 5-29-2019 by another customer. The complaint was identical to mine and they were experiencing fogging in the corner of their windows. It seems that they are gotten some resolution to their problem with PGT offering to replace and install new glass for them. Their original glass was installed in 2014! I strongly believe that my windows were defective from the manufacturer and they had a problem with their low e panes of glass. Why is PGT turning me down in replacing my defective glass but they are taking care of this other customer on your Revdex.com website page?
I would like PGT to replace the windows and pay for the labor costs to replace them! I would also like them to extend their warranty and give me some kind of reassurance that the other windows are not going to fail in the near future!
After researching the issue and speaking with the Sales Reps and Management, we feel we have up held our warranty in supplying glass as stipulated in said warranty. Within the first year service was performed and that cost was covered. As per our warranty labor is not included.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept PGT's response, as they are not addressing why my windows are failing at such a high rate. Having 16 of 24 windows fail so far within a four and a half years is not acceptable when purchasing high impact windows. Revdex.com had a complaint filed on 5/29/2019 and the consumer explained in his/her complaint the exact problems I am experiencing with my windows. PGT, after two years of this person complaining, eventually decided to replace and pay for all labor costs associated with the repair. I did get a window experts opinion and he has advised me that the seal between the windows is breaking down too soon and in his professional opinion this is happening due to a manufacturing defect. I even found an article written by ASTM Int'l in 2015 talking about IGU seal and flexible spacer displacement failures. I reached out to PGT to try and resolve my window issues and they are always just stating their warranty. PGT has been reluctant to tell me their opinion why "MY" windows are failing so soon! I now have an additional three more windows fogging up since I last spoke to someone at PGT. PGT's new vice-president came in to his position in 2014 and he stated that the number one thing he wanted people to know is that customer service was going to be a "high" priority. I would wonder how he would feel is he laid out tens of thousands of dollars for impact windows and the majority of them were failing in the first 4.5 years? As a Realtor, I am also concerned about the affect on resale value of my condo and the condo association I live in does not appreciate the look of my fogged windows in the front of the building. Please have PGT explain the difference between my case and what happened with the case filed on 5/29/2019 on the Revdex.com website where they have agreed to replace and pay for all costs! If their warranty is what they say, why did they replace their windows and they are not willing to address mine?
As stated in our warranty labor is not included, but as a courtesy in Nov. 2017 almost 4 years after purchase, PGT did cover a back charge for labor from the original dealer as a courtesy for you as well. The sales team and management stand behind our warranty, which we have spoken of in previous correspondence.
Please ask PGT "why" my windows are failing! Their reps have come to my place and seen the problem, but they are not willing to tell me why! If I put their replacement glass in and it fails too, do I just keep getting defective glass and spending money for labor to replace? Is this really what PGT wants me to do? Since my PGT distributor that I bought the windows from is now out of business, who from PGT is going to tell me why they are failing? I have an experts opinion, but I would like for the company to tell me why! I have already heard why "some" windows fail, but I would like to know why mine are failing so that I do not just repeat installing the same product to go through the same problem a few years down the road! If they feel I have done something wrong to make the windows fail, please state it?
We have discussed reasons for seal failure in previous emails with the home owner and can not say why exactly his specific units are failing. As a company we do stand behind our warranty and what the warranty covers. We have supplied the glass per the warranty and covered some labor costs as a courtesy as previously mentioned.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I find it pretty "convenient" that they were able to tell the consumer mentioned in my previous responses on the Revdex.com website why their windows failed and they replaced the glass and paid for the labor to do this and PGT can't find out why 75% of my windows have failed so far? I have a PGT rep telling me that if I replace the glass with the new glass that PGT is supplying that the problem will not go away. If the windows are defective with their seals or something else, would PGT agree to replace and pay for the labor to fix? Obviously, PGT found that the glass they put in the homeowner's house in 2014 had a manufacturer defect in the product and that is why they decided to pay for all costs to fix for them. Would PGT come by and do an analysis and tell me why the windows are failing? If there is a manufacture defect in the windows they supplied me, then the warranty they are standing by does not apply, correct?? I even asked one of PGT's distributors in my area to come out and I asked them how much to replace all the windows. They came back and told me that there were too many unknowns and they were not interested in replacing all the glass at any cost! What I am suppose to read into this assessment from one of their distributors? I wish PGT would just admit that the number of windows that have failed is not consistent with the quality they proclaim with their products and stand up to the plate and fix at their costs. This idea that a customer should spend $8,000 within the first 5 years to replace windows that are fogging up that you paid $16,000 for is ridiculous! Please tell me why PGT replaced the glass and paid for ALL labor costs for a customer that filed a complaint on the Revdex.com recently and there windows were installed in 2014 and out of the "warranty" period for paying for labor and they are not willing to do it for me?
since March of 2019 4 months after the door was installed I have escalated this matter to PGT ase: CSXXXXXXX
Work order: WOXXXXXXX SGD 780
This matter has been escalated without resolution from PGT , Barbara C., Nicole K..
Part should be replaced
We have been in contact with home owner and scheduled a service to come and replace his hardware. Home owner was notified on 11/05/19 that this was being scheduled.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
PGT is very informal when it comes to delivery on their commitment. So far they have explain the same over and over and never compliance. They called me two days ago as some one was to be coming to my house they never did.
Service, sales rep and dealer are meeting at home owners to address issue today.
Service on the door was completed and H/O was satisfied with repair.
Window locks don't function properly and weather stripping doesn't stay in place on some windows.
Windows installed in the past 4 year. Immediately after installation, one window - locks failed to work properly. In the past year, additional locks have failed to work properly. Weather stripping falls out of place when the windows are opened.
I would like PGT to fix the defective product.
We will contact the home owner and see if we can resolve her issue.
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Working with PGT to resolve the problem
Within 30 days Multi point door locks failed on three doors. Doors won't open. PGT refuses to replace
Our family spent $16,000 on Vinyl Win Guard PGT windows, $3,000 on shipping and about $8,000 on installation for my parents house.
Part of the order contained 2 38.75X83 FD 555 French Doors with 1 3/16" laminated glass with Aargon Energy Shield max glass added. We also had 5 FRENCH DOOR SERIES 555 58.5X84.,W,CL,L7,ARGON,NONE, OUTSWING, 1.375EXTERIOR,XX,ACT R PANEL/INACT L,KD FRM,.,.x.,NOPREP, LIT211AA5, SUPERSPACER with 1 3/16" laminated glass with Aargon Energy Shield max glass added.
Within 30 days the multi point locking system on one door failed. Within 180 days the mechanism failed on three of the doors. When they fail they fail locked. This means we cannot get into our home. We were able to determine that the failure is caused my a cheap piece of plastic mechanism inside the actual hardware of the door.
We chased PGT for 18 months and they promised they would have a dealer contact us as they were switching dealers in our area. They never follow up and have refused to fix the problem. Two of the doors we have to just leave locked shut. We can never use them. We salvaged parts from them to make the third one work. When it fails again we will really be in a bad place.
For a company that claims it makes quality products these are some of the cheapest mechanisms you could possibly imagine. Although he wasn't involved in this project; my Fiancé was a builder for many years and he has never seen anything like this.
We are seeking a replacement of the multi point locking mechanism - one that doenst have the cheap plastic part or we want the doors replaced with ones that have a different mechanism. Most importantly we would appreciate them to actually communicate with us and act like they care about you once they have your money. We are considering hiring an attorney at this point.
We're sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with your purchase. We certainly appreciate your feedback and would like to learn more about your concerns. Our Consumer Affairs team will follow up with you shortly.
I am the President of my condo association at ***, Fl. I recently signed a contract with Indian River Glass, Co. out of New Smyrna Beach, Fl. for window & sliding glass doors for our building. This is a contract worth well over $300,000.00! Prior to signing the contract I was contacted directly from PGT, Industries in N. Venice, Fl. by Daniela K. She informed me that the owners were going to be entitled to a rebate of $30/window and $100/sliding glass door. Daniela then attached the rebate form to an email that she sent me.
These rebate forms were filled out and sent back to Daniela via USPS Express Mail on Thursday, August 1st, 2019. On Monday, August 5th, 2019, I received an email from Daniela stating that the owners WOULD NOT be receiving their rebates. Her reasoning was that to be entitled for the rebate, the owner had to be receiving 5 windows. This was the 1st time that this was ever mentioned!! Daniela was already well aware that NOT one of the units in our building even has 5 windows!
Could it be that after Daniela received our rebate forms on Friday, August 2nd, 2019, and totaled the numbers and saw that the rebates were gonna total over $8000.00, that she and her bosses manufactured an out (instead of windows).
I look forward to hearing back from you to hear what PGT had to say about this BAIT AND SWITCH concerning our rebates.
Sincerely,
***, Pres.

Product_Or_Service: PGT Window & Sliding Glass Doors
Other (requires explanation) I feel the the right thing for PGT to do, is to HONOR their initial offer of the rebates to the owners/customers!
originally contacted PGT's Marketing team on June 13, 2019 to gain information about the rebate and request a special exception to receive the rebate for a bulk order. During the 2nd half of June, PGT's Marketing team confirmed with *** that the request for special exception was approved and the unit owners would be eligible to receive the rebate, provided that they met the rebate requirements (a minimum of 5 combined window and door products per condo unit and submitting a paid-in-full invoice). On August 6, 2019, PGT's Marketing team received the 33 completed rebate forms (1 for each unit owner) and a list showing the breakdown of products per unit. Upon review, 15 of the 33 units had less than 5 products and no invoice for the products was provided with the rebate forms. Although only 18 units met the minimum product quantity criteria to receive the rebate, PGT's Marketing team requested and received a second exception to allow all of the units to receive the rebate, provided that a paid-in-full invoice be submitted to PGT. This information was communicated to and accepted by *** on August 6, 2019.As of August 22, 2019, PGT has not received the paid-in-full invoice from ***. Once that invoice is received, the rebate checks will be processed and mailed accordingly.Email documentation of conversations and a list provided by ***s showing the # of products per unit are attached.
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)I am going to ask the sales rep for the sales receipt so that I can apply it to this response and get results. Thank you,***, President*** Management Association INC.
Wonderful window. Did a lot of research comparing products and was thoroughly impressed with the quality. Make sure you get a licensed contractor that knows what they are doing and the product will last. I love these MIAMI DADE rated windows.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a positive review of our PGT products. We appreciate your kind words, and hope you enjoy your windows for many years to come.
WINDOW WAS INSTALLED AND WOULDN'T OPEN CORRECTLY. INSTALLER CAME OUT AND SAID FRAME IS BENT. CALLED PGT TO ORDER A NEW ONE. DEALER GAVE ME ALL THE INFO ON HOW TO CONTACT PGT TO TRACK THE WINDOW, TOLD ME IT WILL TAKE 8-10 WEEKS. AFTER 8 WEEKS PGT CALLED TO SAY NO WINDOW WAS ORDERED. THEY NEED TO HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT AND LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHAT'S WRONG EVEN THOUGH THE INSTALLER ALREADY DID THAT AND GAVE ME ALL THE INFO ON THEIR PHONE CALL WIHT PGT. IT TOOK 2 MONTHS FOR THEM TO CALL ME AND IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST THAT FOR THEM TO GET MY "PART" APPARENTLY WHATEVER PART THEY NEED WILL HAVE TO BE MANUFACTURED SO IT WILL HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 6 MONTHS SINCE I PAID BEFORE I HAVE A GOOD WINDOW.
Five year old glass sliders claiming to be hurricane resistant are leaking & contain moisture in between the glass panels manufactured by PGT Industr
As per the PGT Industries website and brochures, the company claims that their product is made to resist "HURRICANES, HIGH WINDS, POUNDING RAIN. IMPACT-RESISTANT PGT(r) WINGUARD(r) ALUMINUM AND VINYL WINDOWS AND DOORS ARE BUILT STRONG TO KEEP YOUR HOME AND LOVED ONES MORE PROTECTED." Due to the fact that these windows and doors can potentially save lives, why is this company permitted to void their warrantee when a new homeowner purchases a home in which these windows and doors have been recently installed?
I recently purchased my home in June 2019 knowing it had upgraded windows and doors installed in 2016 by PGT Industries that met the Sarasota County specification codes for hurricane resistant technology. However, whenever it rains, I have water and condensation accumulating between the glass panels of three of the glass sliders so much so that I cannot see out. This is unacceptable and clearly indicates to me that these glass door panels will not function appropriately under storm situations. I consider this a potentially dangerous situation for my family.
On June 26, 2019 I contacted Consumer Affairs Department of PGT Industries to request that they address this issue. They stated that they do not transfer the warranty to the new owner. I was further instructed that I should have, "done my due diligence and should have fully read the warranty information that states the warranty is NOT transferrable."
How is it possible that PGT Industries are not held responsible to insure their product meets specifications over a disclosed minimal period of time, perhaps 10, 15 or even 20 years free of manufacturing issues REGARDLESS OF THE HOMEOWNER? Surely, they can't expect the consumer to remove the doors and windows and install them in their next home. This is truly a scam that needs to be addressed and corrected.
I myself do not want this company anywhere near my home. To me they are not reputable since their financial health surpasses the safety of the client. I have done research and have identified companies that honor their warranty to be transferred to the next owner. I will do business with them. However, how many countless others are forced to live with a faulty product because they will not honor a time based warranty? Unfortunately we probably won't know this until a storm occurs and these faulty windows causes a death.
In light of this extremely hazardous condition I respectfully request that a legal team review this issue to determine if PGT Industries, as well as other door and window manufacturers claiming that their product can endure storms, be forced to change their warranty policy. A consumer should have the guaranteed protection that if a product is stamped by a company that advertises the product is hurricane resistant then despite who lives in the home, that warranty needs to remain in effect.
Again, who would ever imagine that a window manufacturer who claims they meet rigorous hurricane resistant standards wouldn't stand by their product? How many consumers have been told that despite the fact that the product is new but faulty, that they must, "just live with it."
I encourage a full investigation into this matter and a review of what the legal rights of the consumer should be in these situations. In the event of a hurricane my family is certainly not safe if these windows can so easily be penetrated by water and condensation.
For these types of products that may one day be relied upon to reduce a potentially catastrophic incident, their manufacturer's warranty should be associated with the product and not simply expire when a new owner purchases a home. This is unacceptable and completely irresponsible of PGT Industries. They should be held accountable to insure the product can withstand what it advertises.
I look forward to hearing a resolution for homeowners who believe they are making an investment in safety.
Thank you for your time and concern in this matter.
I believe PGT Industries should be required to stand behind their hurricane resistant/ high impact products for a reasonable specified period of time, ie 15, 20 years etc. as is currently stated in their warranty, HOWEVER, they should also be required by law to allow transfer of the warranty to the new homeowner if the home is sold. It is preposterous to assume these types of products (doors and windows) will be removed when the original owner vacates. This company needs to understand that the investment of this safety glass is made to the home and NOT THE PERSON, and it is irrelevant who resides therein. There is a clear difference from this and other warrantied items. This is a safety item affixed to the home this is NOT a movable TV or appliance. This is a major safety upgrade that insurance companies are discounting for and the county is encouraging people to invest in because it can potentially save lives. Therefore, it is imperative that PGT Industries be required to change their warranty to be transferrable to the subsequent owner. Unfortunately, I paid more for my home because I believed it possessed recently installed (2016) hurricane resistant/high impact windows and doors that would be warrantied for a reasonable period of time. Sadly, I have learned the hard way that my defective sliders will not be replaced and that I must be forced to live with them. I plan to replace the windows at my own expense and deal with a reputable company. I do not want to deal with this company (especially after being verbally chastised by their consumer affairs representative for not reading the warranty before I purchased the home.) What I do hope to accomplish is for their warranty policy to change to be fair and just to future consumers. Until that occurs I plan to bring public awareness to this issue so consumers are aware of this potentially dangerous situation.
PGT does stand behind its warranty. The first sentence of our warranty states that it covers original owner of the product. See first paragraph of said warranty.PGT(r) Residential Windows & DoorsLimited WarrantyPGT Custom Windows + Doors (PGT), warrants to the original residential homeowner that any PGT manufactured product shall be free of materialdefects in manufacturing and/or materials for the period specified below after the date of delivery by PGT. This limited warranty applies to the productsunder normal use and service, subject to the conditions and limitations herein listed, and for only so long as the original owner owns and resides in thehome where the products are installed. PGT'S LIABILITY UNDER THIS WARRANTY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE REPAIR OR, AT PGT'S OPTION,REPLACEMENT OF NONCONFORMING GOODS OR PARTS. PGT SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LABOR OR DELIVERY COSTSINCURRED IN REPAIRING OR REPLACING THE PRODUCTS, OR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES THAT MAY ARISE OUTOF A CLAIM FOR BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY. We tried to explain this to the homeowner and suggest she go to our website to view our warranty, or contact the seller to ask why she didn't disclose issue with the product to her the buyer, but she did not want to hear that advise either. New impact-resistant vinyl sliding doors allow for love bugs to enter the house. Design flaw is responsible.
New impact-resistant sliding glass doors with vinyl frame manufactured by PGT (model SGD670/770) were installed at our home in Satellite Beach in November 2018. A qualified professional installer was used. Please note that this complaint is not about the installation company. It is only about the manufacturer.
In May 2019 we had a love bug swarming event. Due to a design flaw hundreds of bugs found their way into our home through gaps around the sliding doors. There is no problem with the installation itself.
We immediately contacted PGT via email notifying them of the problem. They declined any responsibility. PGT claims that the product meets the Miami-Dade standards and that is all the doors are designed for. PGT's only solution to the bug infestation was offering to send more dust plugs (adhesive bristles that ineffectively cover gaps between sliding doors).
We explained to PGT that the bristles of the dust plugs were spaced too far apart and bugs were able to pass through them. We included pictures and a video in the email.
Since that email we have not had any response from the company.
We are now stuck with brand new doors that keep out wind and rain but not insects. Twice a year our house will be completely infested with love bugs.
I have copies of email correspondence as well as pictures and video evidence.
We would like to have the problem corrected by the manufacturer.
We had responded to the H/O issues from our Quality Engineering Dept. with an e-mail that explained the nature of the design of a sliding glass door. I also asked if he would like me to send him more dust plugs that go in certain areas. He did not respond yes or no to that. We would be happy to send him the
additional dust plugs specified for that door.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I am uploading a PDF containing my email exchange with PGT.
Please note: The dust plugs covering the top and bottom gaps between sliding doors that PGT is offering are *notthe sole point of entry for the bugs. Besides, more plugs would not solve the problem since the bristles are spaced too far apart and still allow for bugs to pass.
I am looking for a fix that will prevent bugs from entering our home and PGT has yet to offer a complete solution. It is a reasonable expectation that brand new doors would prevent bugs from entering by the hundreds.
Thank you.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
On July 23, 2019 PGT representatives and the installer came to our home to inspect the doors and windows in question. PGT made several recommendations to the installer. Said recommendations have yet to be implemented and only time will tell if these recommended modifications will be effective.
Unfortunately we won't be able to consider this matter as resolved until the next love bug event.
A tech from our Service Department met with homeowner and dealer who installed the product. The dealer should be taking care of these small install issues which should correct the problem.
We purchased some EZE breeze windows from PGT and one of them is falling apart. Even though they have a lifetime warranty; PGT will not stand by it.
We ordered a number of EZE Breeze windows (12 of them) via Menards from PGT Industries on 8/14/2017 (Menards Order #BLNE XXXXXXXX) and they were installed sometime in October of 2017.
Recently (noticed the week of June 3, 2019), one of the Trapezoid windows (SKU XXXXXXX) started falling apart. The spine that holds the Vinyl in place along the bottom of the window has released the Vinyl so we now have a opening along the entire bottom of the window. We called PGT directly to inquire about their warranty (https://ezebreezewindows.com/products/warranty) which states in part;
"Aluminum Frame - The aluminum components of the frame/sash members are warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a lifetime."
PGT called us back on 6/10/2019. They are saying that this issue is not covered under warranty. Their stance is that if the window was fine when it arrived and was installed, then there is no defect in workmanship - with no explanation for why the other windows in the same porch are fine, but somehow this window suffered some sort of normal wear-and-tear or something else they are not responsible for. They also told me that it "could" have been caused by any of their warranty exclusions (none of which actually apply here) - again without any explanation how that would apply to just this one window (and not any of the other 11 windows on the porch) - also completely absolving themselves from proving that the exclusion applies. They just decide that by default - it could be one of those things; so, our window is not under warranty. In addition, when I asked if the warranty only covers the state of the window when it arrives, then what does "life-time" in their warranty mean then. To this, the manager I was talking to (I believe her name was Barb) simply chose to hang up on me with no answer.
We need to order a new window and have it installed apparently to get it replaced since we now have a hole in our porch. PGT industries needs to stand by their warranty to reimburse us our cost of the new window and the installation.
I spoke with homeowner on 6/10/ 2019. His call was given to me after he spoke to a member of our Consumer Affairs team and was unhappy with the response. We tried to explain to him numerous times what the warranty covered since he had no defects in the materials but a small portion of the vinyl came loose from the spline. This was after being installed for 2 years and just developed. We offered options on what to do to repair it. I listened to the recording of the call, the homeowner was asked to hold and the call was disconnected on his side. PGT stands by it's warranty and what it says it covers under said warranty. In this homeowners case it is not a warrantable issue.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The Warranty clearly states;
Aluminum Frame
The aluminum components of the frame/sash members are warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a lifetime.
If the frame was designed assembled such that the vinyl pane is no longer being held in place properly, that is quite clearly a defect in workmanship. 20 months (not 2 years) I think everyone can agree falls within a period of "lifetime".
For PGT Industries to simply state "In this homeowners case it is not a warrantable issue." without specifying why that would be the case other than "we don't know what caused the issue", and still tout that there product has a lifetime warranty is a deceptive business practice at best. While a more appropriate representation would be intentional outright lying and false advertising.
To claim non-warrantable, PGT needs to show either;
20 Months is outside the confines of "lifetime"
or
Evidence showing that the fault in the window frame is in fact a result of one of the reasons stated in their warranty for non-warranty coverage. And such evidence should include an explanation as to why none of the other windows ordered at the same time, installed at the same time, and on the same building structure (porch) did not suffer the same issue.
Anything short of this can clearly be interpreted as PGT Industries having no intention of standing by their Warranty, and the Warranty is nothing more than a selling tactic.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Again, PGT is either simply trying to avoid supporting their product and/or warranty, or they simply did not listen to the issue with the window.
Regarding the statement, "The rigid v- spline is put in with a special tool and it usually has to be removed with needle nose pliers. According to our product specialist it would have to have taken some type of impact to make it come loose"
1) Not possible for it to have taken some impact. The window is high in a gable and simply not reachable.
2) The rigid v-spline is still in place. This never came loose. The vinyl has slipped out from under the v-spline along the entire lower edge of the window and it is pretty easy to see that the vinyl was either;
a) Cut too short to be properly held in place by the v-spline, or
b) Was pulled too high to the top of the window such that there was not enough vinyl along the bottom in order for the v-spline to properly hold it in place.
It is easy for any lay-person to see where this lack of material for the v-spline to properly grab and hold would appear fine during installation and could easily come loose after some time.
This is no different than someone cutting a screen short and putting under a rubber spline that initially looks and seems fine but after time comes loose and eventually comes free.
The v-spline is not the issue. The assembly of the window is clearly the root cause.
Also, as noted, this is a non-opening Gable window that is high and out of reach. There is neither normal wear nor normal tear associated with this window. It is entirely static.
Per are earlier discussion PGT stands by its warranty. See attachment of said warranty. It covers the materials used to build the product from material defects as stated. We are sorry we can not control what factors of use could have come into play that could cause the product to come loose from the V-spline after 20 months of use. Please note you can contact your dealer and they can re-roll or repair the vent.
