I contacted management with AARP Events and was asked to apologize for the misinformation given that the Renewal for program was available through May 15, We regret that we did not honor *** ***’ desire to participate in our Renew for program
AARP Events has informed me that the $registration fee will be refunded to *** ***’ American Express card, and we hope she will join AARP at another live event in the future. We have also extended the ***’ membership account with a 3-year complimentary renewal. We appreciate this third and final opportunity to address *** ***’s allegations that AARP has not responded to his request for 1) a stoppage of unwanted mail and 2) the name of the mailing list from which his name was allegedly obtained.We would like to reiterate that AARP makes every attempt to comply with stop solicitation requests from consumersIn *** ***’s case, he is not on our membership nor on our acquisition mailing lists. Moreover, we have no record of ever sending him solicitations, or ever sharing his information with our service providersMost significantly, the set of numbers that he left on my voice mail do not pertain to AARP solicitationsAARP has authorized our service providers to sell AARP-branded productsThese third-party companies engage in direct marketing and acquire their prospect mailing lists from various sources. It is certainly possible that our service providers may have obtained *** ***’scontact information from such sources and have sent him mail relating to their AARP- branded products. However, it is clear that these providers did not obtain *** ***’s name and address from AARP since he is not an AARP member and is not included in our prospects list.As a courtesy to assist *** *** in resolving his complaint, we asked our service providers to suppress *** ***’s name andaddress from all of their mailing lists We informed him that the time frame to completely remove his data from all mailing lists was weeks (industry timeframe)We also asked him to send us copies of the mailings he believes are coming from AARP to enable us to investigate this matter further. renewal incentives periodically, such as free gifts or discounted pricing
targeted to members who have multi-year memberships that are expiring 12-months
from the date the offer is mailed

We are in receipt of your notice regarding *** ***’s comments to our initial response on September 30, concerning unsolicited junk mailings We have obtained and researched the documents that *** *** referenced in his complaint and welcome the opportunity to respond again AARP makes every effort to comply with stop solicitation requestsThe names for membership solicitation come from a variety of sources AARP looks at numerous criteria in determining prospective members, including factors such as demographics, age, preferences, and special interests We also require that the data companies we engage provide only names of individuals in our age demographic.We recognize that data we obtain from our sources has potential for inaccuracies and, accordingly, we employ a number of data cleansing steps to verify our data accuracy Unfortunately, our processes are not infallible, and on rare instances, as in the case of the mailings sent to *** *** *** *** and *** *** ***.We have removed their names and address from our solicitation list; however, we ask that they please allow weeks for suppressions to take full effect We know weeks sounds like an inordinate amount of time to stop mailings but we must explain that direct mail bearing the AARP name and logo include both our mailings and those of our member benefit providers While we are able to suppress our own mailings very quickly, ending those of our providers takes longer Our providers typically are on a three month mail schedule which means that on any given day, mailings for the next two months have already been prepared and set The first opportunity to remove names from the mailing list is in many cases the mailing set to go out in the third month For this reason it may take a provider up to twelve weeks to delete mailings to a particular address. In August/2015, *** *** decided to reactivate the account for a 5-year term so a credit card was used to process a $payment. The member contacted AARP on July 20, concerning payment notices that she started receiving, and she was assured that they would cease. After the notices continued to be mailed, a decision was made to cancel her AARP membership on September 1, The payment notices in question have been researched and identified as invoices. After investigating the mailing, it was discovered that an invoice was created in the name of *** ** *** on June 13, at 11:19am EST in the amount of $16. Our records also show that the request was made from IP address *** by someone purporting to be *** *** who visited the following website, www.qualityhealth.com. The individual responded to an AARP advertisement by clicking the option to receive membership information and an invoice. We apologize that the problem wasn’t properly identified during *** ***’s initial telephone call about this issue and certainly for any frustration or inconvenience this matter has caused herAs of September 1, 2017, the invoice mailings were removed from the member’s account, and the membership was canceled at *** ***’s request.
