Michael & Son Services Inc Reviews (816)

I used Michael & Son to install new fans in my attic this weekend. The electrician, Gustavo M., did a great job. He offered several alternatives to address my needs. He arrived on time and finished early. He was very professional and competent. AND, he even fixed my exterior molding for me, which was not part of the original job. I was so very pleased. I will definitely use them again!

Justin fixed my electrical problem and he very patiently explained everything to me.
He was very knowledgeable and experienced. I am hard of hearing and use a
walker to walk around with, but he made everything easy for me. I feel that he is
an asset to this company and will do business with them again when needed.

I am rejecting this response;I do not understand why the company did not offer to pay for the repair. They were the one who cut the whole in the ceiling and left it that way. The quality of their workmanship should have some meaning. To say that they can do sheetwork at an additional cost leave me to believe they are saying this because of your (Revdex.com)  involvement in the issue.  The cost to repair the whole is only $200.00, that will not break the company. I would prefer someone else to do the repair, at this point I do not trust the company to do any work in our home. Trust and workmanship has a great value to me. Attached is a photo of the unfinished work.  Please do not remove this complaint from your records, other consumer need to know the quality of the companies workmanship.

Great experience (again) with Michael & Son (Balto) electricians. Luke was thorough and found a very serious safety hazard while attempting to resolve what looked like a simple problem. My family and I are very grateful - thanks Luke and Michael & Sons! We'll certainly rely on them again as our electricians.

I am a long time customer of Michael & Son because of their prompt and professional services ... technicians such as Mr Oscar R[redacted] are knowledgeable, professional and customer friendly.

I needed emergency service over the weekend and two days before a scheduled trip out of town. I was so pleased with the promptness, courteousness, and knowledge of Ahmed in evaluating the problem and the speed with which began resolution.
I was, however, disappointed in the seeming lack of communication amongst management at the call center proper. At the same time I needed restoration, I also needed HVAC repairs. My experience with the technicians in the field was superb but they had to spend far too much time (at my insistence) coordinating so they'd be onsite at the same time and collaboratively trouble shooting the best course of action for both the restoration and HVAC repairs.
Michael & Sons is a large company with many departments that, from my observation, seemingly operate in individual silos. It's strange to me that the company does not have persons to serve as liaisons for complex jobs that involve multiple departments working simultaneously. It is not the responsibility of the techs in the field or the customer to be coordinating work among multiple departments, especially in emergency situations such as mine.
Technicians: A+
Management: D- (but we all know that's really an F)

We didn't have a plumbing emergency per say, water was not gushing from a broken pipe, but a DIY project was now into it's 3rd day and going no where fast. It came to a point where even calling for a plumber on a Sunday was the only sane thing to do. Chris T. showed up within the window we were given when we placed the call, he assessed what needed to be done to put an end to the leaks that kept occurring each time a new fitting was added by the DYIer and went to work. It only took a few minutes to properly fit and connect the parts, water back on and marriage saved. Chris was very knowledgeable, friendly and made sure to clean up. We wouldn't hesitate to call Michael & Son again and are considering their maintenance program for the HVAC. Thanks Chris!!!

Abraham B[redacted] Electrician, Michael & Son Services, was at my home to replace a ceiling fan in my bathroom; he was very professional, very pleasant, very informative regarding explaining the replacement, very, very knowledgeable and left my bathroom neat, clean, the way it was before the service; first time I have used the "home repair" section of Michael & Son Services (in the past used the plumbing and air conditioning technicians and all of them very excellent work and very knowledgeable), and I was extremely pleased with Abraham's work and professionalism. Thank you Michael & Son Services for hiring such excellent technicians and experts!!!

All was resolved with this customer we refunded her $350 for floor damage and gave her additional store credit and she confirmed very pleased with our service and will use us...

again.Thanks Vance

If you choose to use Michael and Son hold onto your wallet. The technicians will always try to sell you something you don't need. We paid for a repair and another technician came by and wanted to undo the repair and sell another more costly solution. Shame on us for continuing to use them. We're done.

The technician came within the time window when we made the appointment. He worked quickly and thoroughly to diagnose and maintain our our A/C in peak condition.

Once again, a good experience. Special kudos and thanks to the HVAC technician, Anthony J[redacted], who went above and beyond in fixing a small but constantly nagging filter impediment. A very customer -oriented person with the expected skills of the Michael and Son technician plus a friendly warm personality. Obviously ready to go the extra mile in helping.

Thank you for your response regarding her $89 fee and speaking to her was all handled by me (Vance S[redacted]).  All money regarding a refund is sent out on Fridays only we will reconfirm and make sure if not sent it will be sent this friday 13th.
Again, Thanks for your response

Review: I purchased a heat pump from Michael and Sons nearly three years ago. The product has never worked consistently since installation, despite many service calls and claims to repair. Michael and Sons is evading my complaints via the manufacturer. The primary issue is that the system cuts out and recycles, with the causes having been improper pressure on numerous occasions. The last service repair person explained that there was freezing around the intake which was not correct, but never found the cause and left without an explanation. The heat pump footing was also installed incorrectly, and despite attempts to repair, the footing is still not level and the system sounds warped/unbalanced during operation. Requests to for this repair was literally ignored by the service staff.

I notice the HVAC business has been separated from recently on Revdex.com but my complaint stems prior to this separation.Desired Settlement: I believe this unit has been incorrectly installed and damage has occurred to the system due to improper operation over three years.

Dear **. [redacted],

We have been in touch with **. [redacted]. We went to his home today to work out the details of his complaint and check the heat pump. We may need the manufacturer to confirm replacement under warranty. However we will do everything we can to get **. [redacted] taken care of and satisfied.

I am rejecting this response because:

I want to keep this Revdex.com case open with Michael and Son. They responded to the initial case with an indication they were willing to swap the unit (they examined the unit and found issues). However, after this indication, no further follow-up was provided. When the temps were extremely low and the unit was not heating the house sufficiently, I had to follow-up with them again. They have been evasive about providing any sort of path forward to resolution after several promises that they would provide a path forward.

I've contacted them fours times since the initial case and still have nothing but a text message saying they will provide something in writing.

Thanks,

We made an offer to correct the concerns that our customer is having. The only thing holding us from

concluding with this customer is his acceptance to have us return to review the

conditions and offer. We are hoping to meet with him by next week depending on his availability.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

The unit purchased has failed. The business has not indicated credit will be given as a condition of a sales consultant visiting my residence instead of service personnel. They are seeking additional finances to rectify the situation instead of a commitment to providing a working product, the heat pump unit, for the thousands of dollars already spent. I simply need a commitment that the dollars spent will be credited in full for any swapped unit.

Review: Michael & Son sent one of their technicians out to clear a clog in our drain. They said that they also had to send a camera down and that another technician would be by with the camera. The technician, [redacted], sent his camera down without letting us really see the screen. He declared that it would be nearly $6000 and that we should get on the schedule right away. He was very much a high pressure salesman. He avoided answering the questions I had at all costs. Since we thought $6000 was a bit steep, we decided to get some other estimates. We had two other plumbers out, the second sent down another camera. He went slowly, describing everything we were seeing. All the way down to the city connection. Bottom line--There was no collapse in our line and Michael & Son was just out to take advantage of our uncomfortable situation.Desired Settlement: For Michael and Son to not take advantage of other people.

Review: Since 8/02/13, two of my credit cards have been charged nine times, for $1,890.00 by Michael & Son Services, Inc. accounting department (HVAC).

On July 19, 2013 I signed a contract with Michael & Son Services, Inc. to replace my gas furnace and air conditioning unit. The installation date was supposed to be on Friday, August 2, 2013. However, no one showed up to do the work. So, I called Michael & Son to make an appointment for a new installation date and renegotiate the contract. Under the new contract that was signed on August 2, 2013, the down payment amount for a new gas furnace and air conditioning unit was $1,890.00. The remaining balance, that was due upon completion of the installation, was $3,420.00. The new gas furnace and air conditioning unit was partially installed on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, and the remainder of the work was completed on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

I requested that Michael & Son put the down payment of $1,890.00 on one credit card, and the remaining balance of $3,420.00 on another credit card. On August 9, 2013, I filed a dispute against Michael & Son, with both credit card companies, for eight charges, in the amount of $1,890.00, made to two different credit cards, by Michael & Son, once on August 2, 2013; twice on August 5, 2013 (two different credit cards); twice on August 6, 2013 (same credit card), once on August 7, 2013 and again on August 8, 2013. The disputed charges were so many that the case was given to the Fraud Department. Their contact number is ###-###-#### and ###-###-####. The case numbers are [redacted], and [redacted].

As of October 24, 2013, Michael & Son has re-billed me again for the amount of $1,890.00. Between all of the credits/charges from Michael & Son and my credit card companies over the disputed recurring charges, I don't know what/if any amount of the original down payment amount of $1,890.00 is due to Michael & Son. The HVAC accounting department at Michael & Son needs to determine if all of these fraudulent charges to my credit card are due to human error or a system error. They also need to determine how much money was received for the down payment amount of $1,890.00 on August 5, 2013 (Authorization Code: [redacted]), and August 8, 2013 (Authorization Code: [redacted]). Thank you in advance for your cooperation concerning this complaint.Desired Settlement: As of October 24, 2013, Michael & Son has re-billed me again for the amount of $1,890.00. I contracted with Michael and Son to replace my heating and air conditioner units - that was a bad decision on my part. The techs that were sent to my home were nice but not knowledgeable: they must have been fresh out of school with no experience. They caused more problems than they solved. Needless to say, their work failed inspection by City of Hampton. The next two techs that came, attempted to repair the first groups' work but instead caused even more problems. Again, their work failed inspection. Finally, after even more techs' visit, the Hampton Inspector passed the unit. In the meantime, the workers damaged the garage door opener light cover (it has not been properly repaired), cut a hole in the cement floor (app 4") for a "stop bar" that was unnecessary (used my shovel to mix cement, and left cement on the shovel), then removed the bar and swept cement dust in the hole and called it repaired. Unnecessary holes were cut in the garage ceiling and (after inspector required repairs) nailed sheet metal rather sheet rock to cover their mistakes. The one day job of replacing the heating and the air conditioner unit took from Aug 3, 2015 to Aug 27, 2015.
The office personnel were nice but did not always follow through. They tended to do things at their convenience rather than working with the client. Such as, taking over 20 days to give me paperwork for a rebate.
My experience with Michael and Son was horrible. I would definitely not recommend this company for any work. The only recommendation I have is to stay far away from this company. I dread calling them for warranty service.

Review: Customer service rep notified me that I was bumped out of my shceduled time slot by other customers based on them paying $and being without AC
I received a call from Michael and Sons as a reminder to schedule my AC maintenanceThis was an awesome idea that I had forgotten about and thanks to Michael and Sons this reminder was right on timeI scheduled the service and therefore took the time off of work for my slotted time frame of 12-4pmAt 2:pm I missed the call from ([redacted] ###-###-####)Michael and Sons and was left a message requesting to reschedule my service "due to the fact that we have a tremendous amount of customers right we see and we want to get these customers taken care of as soon as possible." After I received the message I called back to speak to one call center rep and she took my information and said she would call back since her system was downShe never called backThis number was ###-###-####I then dialed the number on the voicemail and explained ###-###-####The same rep [redacted] explained that there were other customers without AC and they paid a fee of $for emergency service and the field technicians were trying to take care of them 1stMy question was did I get bumped from my slot and there answer was "no." He stated that they had to take care of them 1st since they were without ACI understand AC maintenance an me scheduling a check should not penalize or inconvenience me as I am a customer too!! This is Friday May 7th and I had plans of going out of town after the service to celebrate Mothers Day and my year anniversaryI explained to the rep that I had plans and he let me know that they would be available no later the pmAt 5:PM I received a call from a field technician asking if I received a call from the call center requesting to rescheduleThis reflects that there is a serious breakdown in internal communicationHe notified me that it would be after 8pm and I let him know the rep told me it would be no later than 6pmHe stated I was next on the list anyways and he would send a rep out but did not give me a timelineI have now been sitting at home in the same climate as everyone else that was a big priority than myself with no AC as wellMy initial experience with Michael and Sons before was top notch and this one has been the complete oppositeThis is professionally unsat.Desired Settlement: There has to be some type of compensation b/c I left work early and have been sitting at home waiting for service for total hrs

Review: Michael and son technician looked at my heat pump and said I needed a reverser valve $700.00 and refrigerant $1000.00 ($1800.00 total) or I could get a new heat pump for $5686.00 to $11,383.00 dollars. [redacted] services fixed my heat pump with a new fan motor, that I believe Michael and son technician burnt up, a new capacitor and rewiring unit. [redacted] services technician said other technician did not know how to wire unit according to schematics on unit panel. [redacted] services technician said reverser valve was fine. Response:

Michael & son only gave an estimate for this customer. We are concerned with the letter written to the Revdex.com so we decided to contact our friends and competition, [redacted] Service, to ask for their opinion on the unit. We were told that they came up with a similar diagnostic that Michael & Son found, and made the customer aware of it while inspecting the unit.
