Dear Ms. [redacted], This letter is in response to the complaint # [redacted] submitted by [redacted]. By way of background, Defenders, Inc. DBA Protect Your Home is an Indiana corporation that specializes in selling residential alarm systems. We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT. In summary, Ms. [redacted] states that she has had continuous issues with her keypad although she was recently installed. She states that some agents have tried to trouble shoot the issue and have scheduled service appointments to correct it, but nothing has resolved her concerns. Also, she experienced a false alarm recently and would like Protect Your Home to take responsibility if she is fined. Protect Your Home was able to resolve the issue with her keypad. The tamper signal was constantly being tripped because the panel was mounted by double stick adhesive since she was in a rental and could not have holes made in her wall. Normally, the panel will sit flush with the wall. To correct the issue, we provided a desk stand at no cost and took it off the wall. This resolved the tamper signal with her keypad. If Ms. [redacted] receives any false alarm fines for the recent alarm event, she will need to fax in the invoice to 317-564-2552 to be processed. I apologize if Ms. [redacted] was inconvenienced during this process, but I appreciate the opportunity to address her concerns and help come to a resolution. Dear Ms. [redacted], This letter is in response to the complaint # [redacted] by [redacted]. By way of background, Defenders, Inc. DBA Protect Your Home is an Indi[redacted] corporation that specializes in selling residential alarm systems. We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT. In summary, Ms. [redacted] states that the technician put a hole in her wall to install the second key pad after she agreed to an installation of a monitored alarm system. She states she had contacted Protect Your Home on a mailer ad and was unable to follow the MPELL redemption process because she had an infant she was caring for. Due to the hassle, she would like released from her contract without penalty. Ms. [redacted] contacted Protect Your Home on March 10, 2016 in regards to an ADT monitored alarm system. She paid the initial $106.70 for the installation and a contract was executed on March 11, 2016 for 36 months at $52.99. Ms. [redacted] approved the installation in which the technician installed the 2nd panel. The panel needed to be connected to a power source, so a hole is created behind the panel to run a wire to the power source. Without the hole, the wiring would be exposed and could be unplugged. She did call into our office within her three day cancellation window and was given two more devices at no cost which were installed March 14, 2017. If Ms. [redacted] was dissatisfied with the installation, she could have taken this opportunity to cancel and send in her notice of cancellation form by midnight of the third business day. This would have allowed for a release of contract with a full refund. It is now almost a year later and we have not spoken to Ms. [redacted] since March 13th of 2016. It was not until January 27th of 2017 when she inquired about cancelling her services. This is almost a year after she started her contract. She was advised that it would cost her $934.24 to cancel her services based on the contract termination charges outlined in her contract. In regards to her Visa gift card, she was properly advised of the steps. Ms. [redacted] made it clear in her initial complaint that she was aware of the redemption steps. At this time, it is almost a year later, so the Visa gift card will not be honored. I apologize that this was an inconvenience to her while she was handling and infant, but she is just now bringing this to our attention. I attempted to contact her in regards to her concerns, but had to leave a voicemail. I am happy to still discuss this with her. I appreciate the opportunity to address her concerns. Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
As a professional I've had home security systems for years without issues. This experience with ADT has left n-numb. ADT without my permission or knowledge transferred my service to a company that has hundreds of
negative complaints. I chose to do business with ADT. I did not choose to do business with AYH.......... in fact I would never have let anyone representing PYH into my home. What's curious is why does a company have so many dba's? Who is Defender Security and what is their relationship to me?
Following is my response (in red) to Defender Security Company's retort to my complaint, #[redacted]. submitte December 28,2014 to the Revdex.com.
I'm confused as to why Mandy H[redacted], Customer Loyalty Rep with ADT has an unusable telephone number 957-38 .... 8 digits instead of 10? Another confusing point is why did Mandy H[redacted], ADT rep respond for Defender Security?
I contacted ADT November 2013 to hook up an EXISTING security system in a temporary (12 month) rental home. The technician arrived as scheduled but never represented that he was other than an ADT tech.
December 2013 I advised ADT to send monthly bills to my PO Box. to inquire about overcharges on my CC and to ask when I might expect my bills. A customer rep informed me that my "contract" had been given to Protect Your Home and PYI-I would be responsible for billing. service, maintenance, etc. and ADT was responsible for monitoring ONLY. Defender Security's response is in direct conflict with what ADT told me December 2013.
PYH wanted access to my Credit Card for the purposes of auto billing ........... a frightening thought given my
brief experience with ADT/PYH. So I suggested they notify me via my email........... the rep said no. I then suggested they send a bill to my PO Box and was told they would charge $1.00 for each bill. Since $1.00 per bill was unacceptable I chose to send a check electronically 2 to 3 months in advance. After multiple attempts to remedy billing issues I had to make assumptions as to due date.
See original complaint regarding my conversation with Melissa #13475 on 11/24 regarding discontinuing service.
2
Per Defenders Security "In addressing the claim that the contact was forged, all of Protect Your Home's contacts are signed by electronic signature. This is done on an IPad that the technician provides and the customer -picks a font" for their signature. unfortunately; if the name on the contract is misspelled then the signature will also be misspelled."
Not only did PYH, Defender Direct, Defender Security misspell my name, the SS number entered wasn't even close. The only invoice I've received was from ADT, dated 12/14/13, Customer # 10689307 and MY NAME WAS SPELLED CORRECTLY. So if ADT spelled my name correctly I assume the "contract" ADT say they sent to PYH was correct. On 11/23 after completing his task, the tech asked me to sign a statement that verified he performed a thorough walk through, etc. Check my signature and spelling. Another question....how would I know about a 3 day option to cancel if I didn't have a contract?
This is what I expect. I want written confirmation that the ADT/PYH/Defender Security/Defender Direct or whoever's service was actually terminated on 11/28 as I requested and NO contract between me and ADT/PYH/Defender Security/Defender Direct exists. I want recompense in the amount of $2854.95 for overcharges. stress and time spent (see initial complaint) dealing with this issue. Following is only a partial
list of all the people I've dealt with......... Ty. Adam. Ashley Oaks PYI-1, Tina/Florida, John. Josh/Florida, Patrick. John, Shawn, Jennifer, Faith. Lamar, Lotyoa, Faith, Office of Naren Gursahaney CEO.
The game perpetrated by all four of the above-mentioned companies is nothing short of deception; a shill game meant to confuse the customer. 20/20 aired a very interesting report in December 2014 regarding deceptive practices of various home security companies. For your information I have contacted 20/20 and their
affiliates. We are now x-ADT shareholders and I will not hesitate to share my experience.
As I said in my complaint........ Your diabolical services/practices will not be tolerated.

We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT. In summary, Mr. [redacted] states that the damage was inconvenient and it was not made clear to him that he had contacted and authorized party. He said he was immediately concerned when the technician did not show in a company car. Our technicians are not equipped with company vehicles. They use their personal vehicles for transportation and to haul their tools/equipment. The technician has a badge and a shirt that states ADT Premier Provider on one side and Protect Your Home on the other side. If Mr. [redacted] was concerned before the technician stepped foot in the home, he should not have authorized the installation of the alarm system. Since the installation was authorized, a hole was created in order to run power to the alarm panel. He decided to cancel after the installation was completed, therefore a hole was left behind. Had Mr. [redacted] utilized ADT or any other security company, a hole would have been made in order to run power to the alarm system. Since we had his permission to install the alarm system, no refund will be due for the hole created. Mr. [redacted] states he was not aware that he was working with Protect Your Home until he decided to cancel. The contract clearly states that he went through an ADT authorized premier provider Protect Your Home for the installation of his alarm system. We provided ample opportunity for Mr. [redacted] to make the connection that we were an authorized party as it was advised on the sales call. It appears all he heard was “ADT” and did not make the connection that ADT has many authorized dealers and that he had contacted one of them. I apologize, but there is nothing further I can do to address his concerns. We was cancelled and refunded. The appointment to resolve this issue by correcting the faulty installation was scheduled for 12-30 between 11 and 3 PM. After no one called and/or showed up by 3:15, I phoned the local office and was told the service man was going to be at least an hour and a half late. Obviously my complaint has no priority with this company. This is outrageous that they cannot keep scheduled appointments and expect me to sacrifice my limited vacation time to accommodate them. In no way can this be termed "service".

In summary, Mr. [redacted] states that he would like his services cancelled and his monies refunded. He listed numerous issues with his experience. I received a letter from his Attorney last month listing similar issues in which I addressed. Initially, I was not going to allow a cancellation and recommended that he sign the contract so that he could receive the lower rate of $27.99. After receiving this Revdex.com complaint and after further discussion with Mr. [redacted], I decided to allow a release from contract and refund. This was simply as a courtesy and is not an admission of fault. Mr. [redacted] chose not to proceed with cancelling and wanted to speak to his Attorney first. I have not yet heard back and it has been almost a week. The offer still stands to have the services cancelled without penalty. I made it clear that damages would not be covered. I will allow him 30 days to come to a decision. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Dear Ms. [redacted], This letter is in response to the complaint #[redacted] submitted by [redacted]. [redacted] states that she was promised a Visa gift card that would be mailed to her after the installation. She found out there were additional steps needed in order to redeem it. I went back and listened to the sales call and found that the agent was off process and told her that it would take two weeks. Although she was told that it was a rebate, she should have been informed that it is redeemable through a third party known as [redacted] after installation and that there were steps to follow. It also takes six to eight weeks to process, not two. I have submitted coaching for this agent. I have also submitted the Visa gift card for immediate fulfillment. She will receive it within three weeks to the address on file. She also had concerns about the 1st bill that came out from her account. The first monitoring bill consists of a prorated amount for the first month and a full month in advance. According to the contract, this amount is deducted after the installation is completed. The charge can normally be seen within 72 hours from the installation date. This charge is usually completed by charging the card/account on file that was set up during the sales call. The first regular bill is deducted from the account provided to the technician at the installation. If there was any confusion about the first charge, I apologize. It was a valid charge for her monitoring services. In regards to the window sensors and carbon monoxide detector, these items were never offered for free. According to the sales call, she was told that window sensors were not included unless she used one of the two provided door sensors as a window sensor instead. Also, she was provided credit for a smoke detector or a glassbreak. The credit that was left over was enough to cover three contact sensors. She purchased shock sensors instead which is a $20 difference. These sensors detect if the glass was broken or if the window was opened. This would have cost Ms. [redacted] $60 but the technician discounted it by 50%. Also, what she paid at the initial installation was for the Pulse Level Two activation fee of $299 plus tax. She was made aware of this charge prior to installation on the initial sales call. I apologize for any inconvenience this process has caused Ms. [redacted]. I attempted to call and explain, but had to leave her a voicemail. Matters relative to system issues, client was previously advised by our representatives of the clause in the contract, that stipulates (Article 27), in which 3 “same service” appointments are required prior to the system being deemed “inoperable.” Client failed to have 3 “same service” system issues that were scheduled for service. At this point, matter stands as resolved. We find no fault on the part of how the situation was handled. We apologize for any inconvenience this matter has contributed. NOTHING has been resolved with this case. Your email is the first I have heard anything about this case! ADT/Protect Your Home has not returned any of the messages I have left for them the last three days and I only read their response within your email to me, they did not contact me direct either by phone or email-there lies continue!
