American Home Shield Reviews (555)

I had the plumber come out and he said it was a broken cartridge and valve; easy fixes. I was relieved to hear that my shower from upstairs leaking into my downstairs would soon be a thing of the past. I got a call the next day from AHS saying the plumber reported that 1 of the 2 broken parts were caused by "use and abuse", and therefore was not covered. Wait! Use and abuse?!... It's a 30 year old house with the same fixtures from day one. I guess 30 years of turning on and off a shower is "use and abuse". I got no where on the phone so I cancelled my dormant, obviously useless "membership" immediately. I also had my aunt and coworker cancel theirs; I did not want this awful experience to happen to them. I paid $46 per month for years and used it 3 times, for very small jobs that a Trauma Nurse just doesn't know how to do. Also, when you call them, no matter what, the women will always be rude to you. AHS contracts very seedy companies. It's as if the websites, "A[redacted]'s list", and "M[redacted]'s Law" compiled a list of people to stay away from and then AHS hired them all... Great job! I have very little time on my hands, but believe when I say I will make sure my multiple co-workers, RNs and physicians (99% homeowners) do not use AHS or cancel immediately. This is to protect them, not to hurt AHS; I'm sure no customers will see this review anyways, and it will have no monetary impact on AHS, as I'm betting there are millions of people like me getting stolen from, for lack of a better word. Stay away from AHS. You're better off coming out of pocket. The job I needed done would have cost about $100. "Use and abuse"?? Oh please, give me a break!!.. Terrible, abhorrent company, operators, contractors, customer service, and work is done shoddy as well.To think of all the money wasted on this sm "warranty". DO NOT GET HOODWINKED BY AHS, IT'S A USELESS SCAM.

I live in Augusta Georgia, it is over 100 degrees outside. I pay my monthly premium on time each, month. My AC, went out. I sat on hold over 30 minutes to put in a service request. Then I was told they don't have anyone in my area to do the work. I told them I found a company since they couldn't. Then I was told I couldn't use them I had to wait 24 hours for them to find someone. I asked to speak with rep and they refused.

I owned a home from 2007 to 2013 and had AHS for 2 years. Should have been 1! My recurring problem was the HVAC. Always took an exceptional amount of time to get repairs done. The contractor only travelled to my town on a certain day, so it could take 2 weeks if a part has to be ordered.

Well now it is 2016 and my best friend bought a house and was required to get AHS. I live with him, pay rent. His AC went out May 27 and today is June 14. Problem fixed? NOPE! contractor only comes to our town on Mondays and the part may or not be in. Is too bad because my friend is certified in HVAC and maintains 226 units. He can't do the work because of the warranty.

I just got off the phone with AHS for the second time. On the first call, the customer service rep was very rude, as if she was doing ME a favor. I told her so and hung the phone. I called back a second time to request service for my air conditioning, which was the reason for my first call. The rep told me they will only pay $10.00 per pound to add freon. I asked why they would charge extra when the service fee is $100, not to mention the more comprehensive plan I have. Then the rep gave me one number of a company located 25 from my home. I asked for other companies to compare their freon prices and she said they would come out then call AHS to give their price. I said I wanted to ask before they come out and again asked for more companies. She only gave me one more but when I asked for the number, she said she couldn't see it anymore because she already put in for the service request! What??? I told her to cancel it and will call to put in a new request. Very disappointed! Don't waste your money on them. I have used AHS for 12 years and only recently have found them to be dishonest, unaccommodating, and illegally changing the contract terms to suit their needs. Disgusting!

After several years of doing business with American Home Shield and never having any payment issues with my account, I am extremely appalled with the level of professionalism extended to me when I experience my first account discrepancy. I have made multiple calls to resolve my issue and requested to speak to a supervisor. There was never a supervisor available so I was promised a return call that never happened. Each representative treat me in a matter-of-fact manner and did not seem to want to address my concern,

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been on hold now for one hour and nine minuetes and still holding...listening to their music over and over. I was denied repair on a recirc pump that should be working with my water heater. The pump does not work at all and therefore I have no hot water. Through American Home Shield I requested service. When the plumber arrived he needed to get approval to replace the recirc pump, he was told because I dont have water leaking, then I do not qualify for the replacement pump. According to my contract the pump is covered. It does not say anything about the fact that the pump must me leaking water in order for it to be fixed. I requested a supervisor to call me. It has been 3 business days and no call back. So I called in today to talk with a supervisor and have not been put on hold for one hour and fifteen minutes....and still holding. Is this anyway to run a business? I just spoke to someone and he says its an old pump and its not covered. I asked to speak to another supervisor and so no on hold again. 1:20 and holding.

I sold my rental property yesterday and called to cancel my home warranty policy with American Home Shield this morning. I was informed that there are 171 days remaining on the policy and that cancellation would result in me paying an admn fee of $37.99 and a service charge of $175. that leaves me a premium refund of 59 cents. Ironically, had I waited one more day to cancel, I would have owed them money out of pocket to cancel. I have no problem with a reasonable administrative fee for the transaction, but to withhold $213 of paid premiums under the guise of a service fee is nothing short of highway robbery. I also will be sharing this experience with my numerous investors friends.

This company is awful. Even when a contractor determines your appliance is not fixable AHS will avoid replacing your item by not sending you claim information or answering any calls. Hold times are routinely over two hours to reach anyone and then they give you no information. (two hours after the recording says it will be 15 minutes). American Home Shield is in the premium collection business. That is all they do.

I used AHS a number of times during one year of service. Was always concerned with the amount of time contractor spent with AHS (privately, on the phone) versus the consumer. More recently (after service expired), I've come to the conclusion that AHS "cost savings" was the motivator.

"Cheapest" is their mantra. During a garage door repair, the contractor only replaced "one" spring rather that both. This guarantees a future visit as the new spring wears out much faster because it has to compensate for the weaker spring. No professional repair would do this unless instructed to -- in this case, instructed by AHS. How they could ignore the safety risk of the old spring snapping and seriously damaging/injuring is beyond me. (no safety cord was installed)

Why bother with this type of service where the contractor will work only for AHS and lessen their work quality (without telling consumer) for the sake of saving money for AHS? Find another warranty service where the contractor works for you. The warranty service might not pay for "all" but at least the contractor is "working for you".

I'm a disabled vet that can't do all of the repairs I use to do, so I decided to go with American home shield when I purchase a home recently. Shortly after moving in we noticed water in the water heater pan and called american home shield. After several weeks they finally called and said they couldn't find a contractor to address our problem. I explained my disability situation but they said I could try to find someone myself that would be willing to call them to get approval to assess the problem. I told them I would prefer if they would continue to try to find us a contractor. About a week later I received a card from them that they considered they claim closed or repaired because nobody called them. WHAT A GREAT COMPANY? YEA RIGHT!

I am a cust of AHS. Today, I noticed an outside emergency drain leaking water over a window. I have 2 - 50 gallon water heaters on my 2nd floor over MY family room with one filling up the emergency drip pan to almost the top. The emergency drain to outside was not able to take the overflow and filling up the pan so, not an easy thing to do, I drained it. Got house water turned off and emailed AHS. After hours on the phone & using AHS 'chat' & horrible customer service I found out AHS's local plumber would not come for FOUR days and then only to diagnose! Called AHS and waited 50 minutes - "no", Shennile said, my problem was not considered an emergency to AHS and, since I emailed them on a Thursday, the only response I could get would be in 4 days! OMG, 100 gallons of water over my family room, 1 tank dripping water and water off to house, they would come in 4 days. I'm 70 years old FGS. Maybe no problem to her but huge problem to me. The exact reason I purchased a home warranty plan was to get help when I needed it. When I saw the dripping, I called [redacted] plumbers (before I called AHS) and could have gotten 4 plumbing companies anytime but AHS would not use any of them - only THEIR plumbing company. I now have to pay a plumber to come out tomorrow to replace the 10 year old water heater which AHS should be paying for!!!! Now I'm just mad and venting! Never buy an AHS Home Warranty policy as they won't send anyone out in an emergency!!!

This has been the worst repair experience I have ever had with a company. It appears that once AHR got their 75 dollars from our contract that they didn't care if the repair was done or not. They have rescheduled 6 times and it appears the repair man is not going to show up today either. He called 2 hours ago and said he was on his way. After 1 1/2 hours, I called him and he said he was on his way to Roswell. My home is in Lawrnceville. After trying to get someone to speak to me about the problem for the last hour, I have resorted to writing this. I really don't expect to get any positive results from this either, at this point.

Please read. American Home Shield provides terrible service overall. I am not one to leave a review often at all, but felt I needed to leave this for someone wanting an honest opinion. I am not hard to please and only ask for respect which is lacking at AHS.

I attempted to use the home warranty company for a plumbing issue. My pipe froze and busted causing a large amount of water to leak throughout the house. I contacted American Home Shield thinking they would cover the problem seeing as how "plumbing" is said to be covered with the warranty. After being placed on hold for an average 30-45 minutes and being cut off a couple times I was finally able to talk with a representative.

Once on the phone with a representative I explained the problem as a busted pipe. AHS attempted to located a contracted company but somehow failed to find one out of the 11,000 they supposedly work with. The next day was Saturday causing the pricing for a plumber service to increase substantially due to it not being a normal business day. AHS advised us to go ahead and call a plumbing service to come out and have them call AHS. Of course, after the conversation with the plumber AHS advised us they would not be covering the cost due to the damage not being "wear and tear." How they constitute one problem to the next not being wear and tear I am unsure, but the pipe probably froze and resulted in a busted pipe. Well, AHS does not cover that in there "plumbing" section of the warranty. The representative was also very rude and even laughed when I was expressing my frustrations after being without water for over 24 hours and waiting on them to provide a service, which was never provided. Nothing was explained in detail either during the entire situation, just laughs and a lack of concern or care.

Overall, I have had a terrible experience with AHS and would not recommend this company to anyone. It always seems as if they weasel their way out of fixing a problem for you. I believe I have lost over $600 dollars for the year and did not benefit one time from using this warranty company. I will definitely not be renewing the yearly contract and if I could cancel now I would.

There is good reason behind the fact that 94% of the customer review ratings are negative on Revdex.com. I only hope I can prevent even one person from using AHS in the future. Place your money in another business that will treat its customers fairly and most importantly with respect.

We have been a customer of American Home Shield for over 10 years. Consistently we have found that any repair person that has answered our calls for assistance and repairs has made return visits to complete repairs. We have found that 90% of the repair vendors are unprofessional and incompetent in their repairs. This has required return visits. We have had this with our refrigerator(s), clothing washer and dryer, air conditioner(s) and other household items. To pay a monthly fee and NOT receive a phone call back about an air conditioner that has nor been over 60 days to be repaired has drawn the line for us as customers. We have left a number of voicemail's, and no return call from AHS for over two weeks. Our air conditioner still isn't repaired and we are going through summer without help from AHS. If there is another company that competes with AHS, please let us know!

I had a contract with American Home Shield for 1 year. In that year I filed claims for my furnace and some outdoor electrical lights not working. In sum, the furnace work required several calls and several dispatches over the year but the problem was never resolved over the course of my contract. Their business model is only to dispatch a new vendor to the work. They will not take any accountability for the vendors failing to follow up, call you back, or disappear. Rather, you will need to pay $75 every time they re-dispatch a new vendor (on top of the monthly fee being charged) for the same problem that remains unfixed for months and months.

The electricians sent for the outdoor lighting issue seemed completely incompetent and unprofessional. I had to make suggestions to them in how to figure out the problem, which is ridiculous.

All this and then AHS renewed my contract without contacting me or alerting me. No apologies on their part ever. When I caught it, they said they will cancel it and I will receive a confirmation in the mail in 10-15 days. They were unwilling to send an email with the cancellation in writing.

Terrible company.

Well I have AHS and have had nothing but problems when it's time to use them, but there is no problem with them taking the money every month, they say they use local contractors however to fix and AC problem no contractor even called , I had to call them, then they were a no call / no show wow another call to them to say "yes he will be late" ok I didn't mind after waiting 2.5 hours at this point, then after the time of 5pm I call again and the are still on other job , says lady that answered the phone"
Meanwhile after being on hold on the phone with the warranty company for an hour, a lady picks up the phone and I explain to her what is happening and she proceed to tell me she will reschedule the next day, but if I went to another contractor that I might have to wait until next Wed! (I explained I'm out of town then! ) so I was angry to say the least, I told her give me the new contractors number and I will call and make an appointment, I will do everyone's job at this point! she told me that she couldn't do that! so blah blah blah I was so angry I ask for a manger / owner then I'm told that 24/48 hour I will get a call back! this is up-surd! A Warranty company that makes promises and takes your funds first then can't keep the promises! I want my money back for years of pre paying for something that isn't going to get fix if at all!.

This company needs to be shut down, what are we PRE PAYING FOR!

I figure I will write a review to day if nothing happens in the next 24-28 hours I will submit a complaint!
I actually had a positive experience once with AHS. But this experience literally takes away any good you could've done! I have been with out cold water since December it's now Feb 16th, every time I call, AHS says say 24 hours.. last I checked were at 1500 plus hours! But today took the cake, I called even waited a week. hoping just this once you would do as requested. Wrong again I was told 24-48 hours more. Then when I asked to speak to a manager, I was told 24-48 hours there's no one that can help!! I was told I had to contact the contractor myself to get the buy out price.. The same company that hasn't called since December or answered their phones! Hello what has AHS been doing since December? Grant it I'm mad but still apologizing for my tone (why I dont know) that CS is getting the brunt of my anger! but enough is enough, so what does she do. hang up on me! ya that helps. I then call back and get placed on hold for 41 minutes, sorry I exaggerate 40m and 57 seconds! to be told from Valerie in Tenn. that they called the company for me and it will be 24-48 hours, obviously no one else had done this step, but do I believe her? I will wait the 24-48 hours, lol I really hate those numbers, meantime I will start figuring out before then how to handle this company!

Washing machine problems. Ahs sets up service with s[redacted] repair. Took the day off work to meet repairman, never showed. Called the number and I got someone out of country, phillipines. Could not contact person who was suppose to come by. Ahs sets up another repair, 2nd day off work to meet repair man. He comes by and basically rebuilds washing machine. A week later it returns and a week later it's broke again. Called ahs, take another day off work to meet repairman. Recommends replacing washing machine. Two days later receive email from ahs for a 2nd opinion. 2 weeks later I finally am able to contact the 2nd opinion company. Take another day off work to meet them and they recommend replacement. 3 days later I still haven't heard from ahs. Call them and they say call a different number after 9am on Monday. Call the number and voice system says due to high volume of calls I get to wait on phone for greater than 30 minutes. Terrible customer service. I could have replaced the washing machine and the dryer for the time I took off work to attend to all these calls. Not to mention 4 weeks without a washing machine with a family of 5. Very similar issues with ac replacement and ahs refused to replace ac system because it was. 4 ton outside unit with a 5 ton inside unit that has been at this house for 20+ y[redacted] but they say it was undersized and that's why it went out. I call bs. It lasted 20 y[redacted]. Total out of pocket expense for the ac replacement.

I am most unhappy with my recent transaction and plan to cancel my policy as soon as this claim is settled.

First of all the plumber they sent to replace my water heater was dishonest and should not even be working for them. He tried to tell me that he would need to replace the two water lines and alter the pipes and therefore need to charge me an additional $225 to do this on top of the $75 service call..

I spoke to 3 different plumbers and they said that was all just part of the normal installation of any water heater and all 3 quoted me the same price of $150 total to install a new water heater.. He was totally trying to scam me. At the point he left I had been without hot water for 4 days and had to do something right away. I immediately called 3 different plumbers to ask them if this was normal and how much they charged. After confirming that the plumber was lying, I contracted with one of the plumbers I had called and he installed it the next day. It took him less than 2 hours to do the entire job and he reused the copper lines that were there as there was absolutely nothing wrong with them he said. And even if he had had to replace them, it would have cost an additional $25 for the lines and nothing extra for the installation as he said that was part of any water heater installation.

I then waited 3 more days for their representative to finally call and offer me a measly $271.19 which she said was AFTER taking out the $75 for the service call where the dishonest plumber did NOTHING except to give me a bogus estimate. No one informed me that I would have to pay the $75 service call even though he did not do anything. If I had known that, I would have at least had him replace the leaking faucet in my shower which was part of the service call! But instead I got NOTHING done for the service fee. Most legitimate businesses give free estimates. AHS should not be paying this company for an ESTIMATE, and they should not be charging me in turn.

I understand that they can buy the water heaters wholesale, but the fact that they are only allowing a total of $346.19 total for the unit AND the installation, tells me that they are not paying the plumber a fair rate (or anything????) for the installation which is why he tried to overcharge me the additional $225! And that is on top of the $75 service fee I was paying, so he was basically charging me double what every other plumber charges for installing a water heater.

Luckily, my contract is up in June and I do not intend to renew this policy. I will be shopping for a new Home Warranty company.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. They are scammers and wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a Warranty from them. Here's my story....I purchased a new home and my realtor recommended getting this company due to in anything goes bad it would be able to get fixed. I called them 7 months after my services had started to tell them I needed a contractor to check the central air flow because it wasn't hitting my one room enough. They sent over a company that looked like it was run by 13 yr old kids and they had no idea what they were doing. An hour into working on my air blower system they told me they couldn't figure out why it wasn't getting air and left. 20 mins after they left my whole first floor airflow shut down !!! Called American home shield back to complain and they sent out another contractor who wrote a report stating that the original contractor tried to play with ductwork and rewired my unit. ( I still have the work report from them ) American home shield refused to fix the problem and said its not there fault the original contractor messed the system up so bad. A small problem maybe a $50 fix now turned into $3800 since I have to replace my entire unit since they basically fried the motors and other things. We currently have an attirney to deal with these scammers!!!! Stay away from them if your smart your better off just getting a reputable contractor to do the work. Oh and they charge me $125 for each service call so I basically paid $250 for my unit to be broke.
