It took 35 days to receive the contract (conveniently 5 days after the "buyer's remorse" period required by law). When we finally got all the paperwork, we started trying to book the free condo for this year and were told by the rep that they didn't have any of the free condos (had to be a certain price range) available in the Southeast, 4 states, for the entire summer. We asked about ANY free condos available and were told they don't have any in that price range at all. So no free condos.
When we tried to book a hotel on their proprietary travel service, it was the highest price available compared to all online prices, but when I called to question it I was told that they don't guarantee to have the lowest price, it's just a suggestion. So no discount booking.
When we tried to book a campsite we were told they were full, and you can't book more than 2 months out. So no priority booking.
After numerous calls to customer service, working my way up the foodchain, I finally got on the phone with the Director of Customer support. She told me that they had no control over whether their "affiliates" honored their agreements or not and TRA was not responsible to insure that we got what we were promised. I argued that we gave TRA our money and that they WERE therefore responsible, as promises were made in our contract. She argued for 5 minutes, at which point I demanded a full refund. She flatly refused, stating they don't give refunds for any reason.
So we called our credit card companies that we charged the membership to and opened a case. I had kept records of all correspondence, and sent that along with a copy of the contact to them for review. After a thorough review they (Discover and Amazon Chase Visa) ruled in our favor and credited our account the full amount.
So my advice is if you are approached at an RV show by these people, RUN! If you have already been taken, call your credit card company if you used one. They may be able to help. Last resort would be to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, as this is fraud. You do have options!
Read the fine print on any TRA contract. This website only benefits the company you are complaining about - waste of time...
We purchased Sycamore Lodge membership in February 2018 we’ve only been there two or three times wants to get a Berg they promised all kinds of improvements which has never happened we tried to get in at certain times difficulty getting in no space we booked get a burger one time two months ahead of time when we got there no record then they tried to put us in a 30 amp no sewer section we have to have 50 A after a lot of complaining they did find us a spot which is A terrible side spot with 50 amp no sewer we left in three days because it was so bad we have called tried to counsel several times with no response we have complained no response so we have stopped automatic drafts for payments and maintenance and we do not intend to pay anymore for membership and the next stage we will send an attorney‘s letter and if necessary sue for breach of contract
We purchased 2/18 after a free 3 days at Sycamore Lodge
We were promised all these improvements coming
Up and adding new parks
As if 12/19 we have only used Lodge couple times and always
Had trouble booking saying unavailable,
Went one time to Gettysburg and 2 months ahead had trouble
Getting booked. When there no record of reservation after lot of
Said only 30 amps with no sewer...After complaining they put
Us in awful site like a side parking space. Not a very good stay
And we left after 2 days back South.
I have called to cancel several times and no results so I stopped
Auto payments and will not pay any more payments and when time
Will send attorney letter and sue for breach of contract.
Went thru the sales promises on July !, 2019 and we signed up. TOLD we had three bussiness days to cancel. Since the 4th was in those three days the deadline was the 5th of July. After coming home got on internet and decided not for me. We signed the cancellation notice. We mailed the Cancellation notice on the 4th of July at Belmont PO inside slot. We have been fighting TRA and Comminity Capital Bank dbo Good Sams Camping World Visa trying to get someone to realize we canceled and owe nothing. We have now turned it over to the NC Attorney General's Office. Hopefully we get released from this SCAM. I can;t believe this is still going on today after what all I have read, from back in the 80's. SOMEONE HAS TO HELP US!
I understand what you are going through. My father and mother did the same thing and now my father had passed we try to explain this to TRA and we were told to sell it off and then pay the full amount of to them. Which we try to explain the bank account and the funds paying for this were my father's retirement funds and he is no longer with us they didn't care. My mother is unable to pay for this and they are trying to rob her blind.
We've been members for several years and I really liked the Sycamore Lodge to begin with. All they have done is PROMISED since we joined. Promised more sewer sites, was going to be in 2 years, it has been over six years. They have put a septic tank in the lower part of the campground, been there for 2 year and overheard a sales rep telling new people it had to sit there for 2 years to cure, that's a lie. Each road was to be paved one per year (was told to someone that has been a member for 17 years) and that has not happened. Sycamore Lodge has built a new cabin (2 years ago) and can't open it because there's no sewer. Why in the world would you build a new cabin before you add sewer for the camper? As for the grounds, they look worse now than they have ever looked. It also looks as though there aren't as many workers here anymore. I was there for the week of the fourth and there were over 54 sites empty and when I booked my site, it said it was FULL. This campground has never been full, they're always some empty site. Internet sucks and was supposed to be upgraded. Where does all the money go from the quarterly dues go to? If I could sell my part, I would. We are getting tired of all the PROMISES.
I have been trying to cancel my TRA membership. I sent a letter to their Southern Pines, NC office. I waited for some time without a response. I have since then made several calls to Brandy at TRA's 855-332-9541 number. Brandy (who has read my letter), "is surprised" each call that their "cancellation personnel" has not responded to me. Brandy "cannot" give me a person's name, direct number, email address, or mailing address and can only "email them", asking them to contact me.
I am to the point of seeking legal aid to cancel my membership and it's maintenance fees.
I want out of our contract and all I see it looks like there is no way of doing it!
I understand and we're ready to sell our membership too. I would advised anyone who wanted to join, not to. They have done nothing but lie and make promises.
Travel Resorts of America is a scam! We bought because our home campground had water slides and an indoor pool. TRA had just recently purchased this campground in Ohio and "they were growing". Knowing that our grand children would love this we purchased for a whopping $11,000. The cost started at $20,000 but we talked them down, haha. Right after we purchased they removed both the slides and the indoor pool because of maintenance costs. We were also told they were growing and we would have access to the new campgrounds as they became available. That was a lie unless we give them another crazy amount of money. In order to sell you must provide a list of interested buyers which is just another group for them to sell a membership to, they have no intention of selling your membership. That is my opinion. It also will cost you $500 to sell it. Now I just want to cancel and judging by all these reviews it will be difficult to even cancel. Unfortunately this has been one of my regrets in life.
We purchased a membership with TRA in 2015. Since then we were only able to get in to camp 5 times. They wanted us to up our 60 days to 90 days and pay an additional amount of money. We declined and am glad we did because other people that went from 60 to 90 days in advance are still having a hard time getting in. My share that cost me $9500.00 cost other members as low as $4500.00 . So if you do decide to purchase into TRA hold out for lowest deal. There's a lot of sales pressure. I tried to sell my membership and had 3 people at different times interested. When I gave TRA the phone numbers I never heard anymore. What I don't understand is how can they keep advertising for more memberships when they cannot handle what they have. I even asked them if they would consider buying back memberships at a loss for people that cannot use them instead of selling more spots that are not avaible. The one good point is that the Gettysburg travel resort is a nice
campground.
My husband and I joined in 2008. We also joined Coast to Coast. We worried we were wasting our money but we took a trip 2 months later to the West Coast and saved a bundle. We did a lot of camping at Sycamore Lodge, only 45 minutes away. Later we upgraded to Premier memberships, and were glad we did. We sold our house and started full-timing in 2014, but my husband passed away at Bass Lake 3 weeks later. I bought an older motorhome and I'm still using my memberships. The people I meet in campgrounds are like family, and we see each other often because of the memberships we all have. My home campground is Sycamore Lodge and the friendly hard-working staff is fabulous! When my husband was sick years ago the whole crew met us at our campsite and set us up. Two years ago I was there and had a medical procedure. The manager went out of his way to accommodate me. When my husband died the staff was again waiting for me when I got back in the fall. This is home to me. As far as costs go, I have never regretted it, and I gladly pay my dues every year. I have more than recouped our original investment, in money and happiness!
My husband and I have been members of TRA for about 5 years now. When we went into the first meeting to get our contract in order all went well. Since then, everything has gone down hill. First, we ended up having to upgrade our membership because if you try to book 60 days out, you are out of luck! All sites are booked by that time. Second, the "family" package is a joke. We were told by the service contractor as well as management that the family plan is good for any family member for one flat rate per year. Now come to find out it's only good for parents and children of the members and not only do they have to pay the yearly fee, but there is still a nightly cost. There is no point in the family membership! We signed up for this with the understanding that it was what we were paying for. They did not give us time to read the contract, they were pushing us out the door. They just wanted out money, told us what we wanted to hear and now we are stuck with a membership that is absolutely useless to us! I would never advise anyone to buy into this company. We will continue to use what we paid for, but they will never receive a good review from me.
Recently my husband passed away and I can not afford to pay the yearly maintenance fee, my membership is paid and I haven't been camping using our membership since 2016. I am willing to sell my membership for the price of the yearly maintenance fee just to get rid of this burden on me. The membership home base is Gettysburg Battlefield Resort. I have a 60 day out period. Are there any takers out there?
they are also affiliated with Outdoor venture from Michigan and know they have one in ohio. They told us that we would be financed . But 10 days later we receive a credit card in the mail with a 22% rate. No one told us it was that way. But I didn't read the fine print and believe me they don't care. I had just had eye surgery so I told the sales guy that I couldn't see and he would have to tell me everything. Well you know how that turned out. I also found out that Mr. Rick Treadway is the head of the sales department for both camping facilities. I thought he was really an honest guy. Because we joined at wally world and we've had a great time. But the way they did us was not right. By the way I am a disabled vet also. they knew that before I signed. They don't care about anything but the money. Mr. Treadway even invited my wife and I to his place in N.Carolina.
Horrible company. Purchased in 2000, have been paying fees every since cannot get out of contract. My sister is a disable Veteran who was promised camp grounds would be wheel chair accessible. They never made any modifications to do so. We tried to opt out and were told we needed to upgrade then we could opt out. Then they changed rules and she still can't get out. Please be where this contract can NEVER be cancelled. MAJOR SCAMM
I know the feeling, my wife and I have been members since 2016 and what we were told and what was actually provided was totally different. We went in last year to review our membership and all that it really was, a new sales pitch. We were told one thing and we are using it in a few days. If you pay 2 years of the maintenance fees, you can cancel your membership.
I don't understand how so many people can have such a negative response to a camping and traveling membership program. How were you scammed? Didn't you read the paperwork? Couldn't you see the locations on the map? Didn't you ask questions and get everything promised to you in writing? I use my membership for RVing, cabins and condos. So much to do. It's great! You need to use it in order to get your money's worth. All I can say is that you'd better learn how to read before you sign documents. I knew exactly what I was getting because I read and ask questions. If you don't camp and travel then this is not for you. If you do, then you will receive a lot of enjoyment from the membership.
Someone who works for TRA.
I was lied to and never given a copy of my contract.
How do you use it, if you can never get on and what about the upgrades that was supposed to have full hook up years ago. Well now they are telling us we cant have anymore lots made or use the cabin that they built till they get the sewer done but nobody knows when that will ever be done.
I need help regarding how to cancel my father in law's membership to this resort. My wife's mother suddenly passed away and we just became aware she was still paying maintenance fees with this horrible company for a decade or more now. We desperately need to find out how to get out from underneath this! ANY advice would be great.
If the membership is paid for in full, you only need to keep the maintenance fees up to use it. If you don't want to use it, call the corporate office and tell them that you are no longer paying maintenance fees. Once you stop the maintenance fees, you cannot use the membership. However, if you still owe for the actual membership, and stop paying for it, then that can go against your credit. Call the corporate office in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
We joined in 2016, went to the Rocky Fork campground with the grandkids that live with us.
They loved the presentation, we joined. The problem we have is my wife is handicapped and
can only stay in cabins. Rocky Fork has a lot of cabins, but we asked about another site
that we are paying for Wally World. We were told they were building the CABINS, as we speak.
They have ONE CABIN,and it is not handicapped accessible. I asked for a reduction in my
charges. I was told no, they after request's they told be a could use a campground Bass Lake
which is 450 miles from my home, I asked for maybe Gettysburg, which was less than 300
miles. No Luck and no help and they don't care. Do not buy.
