Review: I have been trying to cancel my membership since November 2013. I called the club and asked to cancel, they instructed me to send a letter asking for my account to be cancelled with a certificate of mailing. I did this on December **, 2013. I did not receive any response to this letter and my account was charged in December. I called the gym and an employee confirmed that my account was closed and I would not be charged again. In January I was again charged for the fitness club and also contacted via text message by their employees asking me to come to the gym for a personal training session.
I again spoke to an employee at the gym who asked me send a copy of my Certificate of Mailing, which I did on January **, 2013 and again asked for written confirmation or any type of confirmation that my account was closed. I again was ignored and my account was charged in February and again in March. I have written several emails and have now disputed the charges on my credit card. I have spoken at length with "[redacted]" and "billing coordinators". I have only received personal email addresses and no way to communicate with any type of corporate management. I have no been charged for 3 months erroneously and have not received any explanation or reasoning as to how they continue to leave my account open and charge my account.Desired Settlement: Refund my credit card the last 3 months of payments I have made via my credit card.
Review: I was a trainer at this location for the previous gym pure fitness. Synergy bought the gym and told us that by the end of the week we were no longer allowed to train at the location. Even though I was no longer training at the location they were still charing me. After going to the location and having them cancel a membership for one of my clients they continued to charge my account. I called and asked to speak to the manager they refused to allow me to speak to management and insisted that I never filled the correct paper work. I then called my bank and had them cancel and refund the 3 months of payments they were taking from my account. At which my bank said the way they charged me I should have been present and signed for. After all of that they are still emailing and/or texting my client due to nonpayment.Desired Settlement: Stop them from calling my client. My clients contact info is ###-###-####, [redacted].

Response:
Synergy has not contacted us about the situation and they are still sending text messages to my client. Is there anything we may be able to do to speed this process up or another orginazation we can call to have them stop calling her.
At this time, I have not been contacted by Synergy Fitness regarding complaint ID [redacted].
Sincerely,
Review: Synergy has been billing me for a membership I did not sign up for, and which they claim is "month to month no commitment", for more than a year now. The card that they bill no longer exists. They have sent bill collectors after me. I have tried to cancel this membership to no avail. Despite telling them repeatedly that I have not been a member at their gym for more than a year, and that I have contacted them to terminate the membership, they keep billing me every month and sending my account to collection agencies when I do not pay them for their fraudulent charges. Filing this complaint, along with contacting my lawyer, is the last resort. Synergy intentionally makes it difficult to terminate memberships in order to continue billing people for memberships. This is a CRIMINAL, FRAUDULENT business practice.Desired Settlement: I want Synergy to do the following:1. CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP2. Cancel ANY AND ALL fees that have been billed to the card they have on file to me (a card which no longer exists). This goes back OVER A YEAR.3. Call bill collectors associated with this account and have them terminate any attempts to contact me or any of my friends and family.4. State in writing that I DO NOT owe Synergy any unpaid dues whatsoever and that my membership is terminated.

Review: - I used the [redacted], Synergy Fitness from mid 2010 - mid 2012
- I started training for a Marathon and didn't need to use they gym anymore (I had no malice towards the gym at the time)
- I went in to cancel, which the person behind the desk said was fine - but didn't inform me of the actual process of how to cancel
- Over a year went by without hearing anything - assuming that my cancellation was processed and fine
- I received a letter from a collection agency, [redacted] on 02/**/14 saying that I owed the gym over $564.12 for unpaid fees
- The gym had made no effort to contact me, yet they had all of my correct contact information, which I confirmed, in person, with the Manager [redacted] on 2/**/14
- After receiving the letter, I immediately went to the gym to try and figure out the collection issue. I also called the collection agency to dispute the claim
- After talking with the Gym's manager, [redacted] in person, she assured me that she would look into it and help me resolve the situation
- After my original discussion with her, I heard nothing more from either [redacted] or [redacted] after multiple contact attempts. My wife and are saving to buy a house and this would crush my credit if anything happened, so I wanted to sort it out immediately
- Another year went by without hearing anything, until I get another call from a different collection agency, [redacted] on 02/**/15, saying I owed over $1,006.00
- The gym, after trying to collect the first time, hadn't closed my account and had let it accumulate more fees, even after I went above and beyond to solve the payment issue the first time. Again, the gym had made no attempt to contact me before sending my information to the collection agency
- I am not an unreasonable person, I would of settled this matter immediately if the gym had simply reached out the first time I missed a payment
- My billing history with the gym and my credit history in general shows that I pay all of my debts on time
- I have now paid the original amount of $564.12 to [redacted] to put this matter to bed and to avoid any potential credit issues
- I have found this whole experience very unethical, and would like to report these collection practices to the Revdex.com, in an attempt to receive a refund and to help prevent Synergy from doing the same with other customersDesired Settlement: - I am willing to pay the gym the original cancellation fee (one month) plus a 2nd month for missed payment. My monthly fee was $44.95, so I would be willing to pay $89.90. That would mean I would look to receive a refund of $474.22.
- NOTE: I processed the credit card payment with the collection agency, [redacted] on 3/**/15.

Review: I was a member at a previous gym in this location for years. My contract had expired and I was paying month to month. Synergy fitness took over the gym and I remained a member for several months. I never signed any document with synergy fitness nor was a term commitment implied. I asked to cancel my membership in late march and they told me the only way to cancel was to send a certified mail. I told them I never agreed to this and they gave me an e-mail to contact. I contacted the e-mail and never heard a response. I then called and asked them to cancel my membership once again, no action was taken. I then wrote a letter in early april asking them to cancel my membership and I am still getting charged.Desired Settlement: I would like to get refunded two months membership of $54 each month.

Review: In March 2013, I entered into a one-year contract with Synergy Fitness. In March 2014, I sent via certified mail a cancellation notice to Synergy Fitness. I called and spoke with a representative and was told they would cancel my membership. I have been repeatedly charged since then and have disputed the charge each month on my credit card, resulting in the credit card company reimbursing me. In August 2014, I called again to ask why I am still being charged and was told that my cancellation was never received. I sent a second notice via certified mail and informed them that if I was charged again, I would contact the Revdex.com. In September 2014, I was charged again for the month. I called and spoke with someone at Synergy Fitness and informed them of the situation. I told them I would be contacting the Revdex.com and was told "go ahead." I have read several complaints on [redacted]other sites regarding issued with cancelling memberships with this gym.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop charging my account. Even though my credit card company has reimbursed me each month, they should not have to do so and I should not have to dispute the charges every month.

Review: I was charged a "gym enhancement fee" of 29.99. There is a line on the contract which states there can be a 24.99 yearly fee but it is a blank signature line. When I called the gym to complain I was told - [redacted]"....Interesting that this line can be on a contract and was never pointed out. This is unacceptable.Desired Settlement: billing adjustment of 29.99 and cancelation of membership. I canceled on aug [redacted] 2015 and was charged again for this months fee of 25.00. Total adjustment $54.99

Review: Went to join club was significantly persuaded to join club, kept pushing me to sign. Said it was not a contract just an interest list...when I agreed to join after being pushed. Was to have receipt emailed to me and when it arrived costs were different than discussed in club. Also they changed from joining month to month to contract for a full year. Last they did not provide any copy of the contract to me at all then quoted to cancel I had to read the contract, of which I did not receive. I am sending a letter via certified mail within 3 days of signing. Also they raised the costs of the membership between what they told me and what is on the receipt. My friend that joined with me received no receipt and no contact. I have since cancelled my credit card to ensure they cannot charge me.Desired Settlement: I would my membership cancelled. I do not want to belong to an organization that has such underhanded and crooked business practices.

At this time, I have not been contacted by Synergy Fitness regarding complaint ID [redacted]. I was instructed on the day I signed up they would not let me cancel my account. The told me I had three business days to send it in writing to them by certified mail if I wanted to close my account which I did. I have receipt that it was received as well as certified when I sent it. I made numerous calls to the company. Multiple staff lied and said they were the supervisor or the manager. Of course none of them were because everyone told the same story. I was placed on hold for lengthy periods of time (over 30 minutes) as they gave me the run around. They kept telling me it was my fault I did not receive the contract or their policies in writing. I never even got a receipt and that it was just too bad and I could not cancel my account even though I tried to on the same day.... I guess buyer be ware is true in this case. I finally called my credit card company closed the account so they could not bill further. Not a reputable company.
Sincerely,
Review: I had a membership to this gym and upon deciding to cancel my month to month membership( Aug 2014 ). I wrote and sent a certified letter as per their policy. I at that time also cacelled my credit card that they were billing. I didn't hear from them again until January. I was informed via Text message on my phone that I needed to update my billing and that my account was still active. I called and went in person to explain that I sent a certified letter to cancel my membership. I was told that unless I have the receipt there is nothing they can not do about it. I will have to write another letter and pay the remaining balance from Sept until current. I again called later that day to discuss since I have never attempted to go to the gym since august and they could clearly see that I have never attempted to check in using my membership card they issued and I shouldn't be billed. I talked to a [redacted] there ( I believe her name was [redacted] )and she told me not to worry about it that she'll take care of it. I was reassured that my membership is cancelled. In April of 2015 I received a letter from a collection agency demanding $640 for the upaid debt of my Synergy membership. Again, I haven't even attempted to go into this gym since Aug 2014. I contacted the gym again and talked to [redacted] who said there is nothing he can do since it has gone to collections. He also told me that my membership is still active and I am still being billed even though they have no credit card to bill. [redacted] told me I needed to send in another certified letter to cancel my membership. I inquired that since I am being billed for this month if I can use the gym facilities. He told me no, only if I settle my balance. I don't understand how they can bill me but not allow me entrance to the facility. What services am I paying for?! I really feel like these guys are criminals and are using tactics that are unethical and sly to make more money. I was never communicated to effectively or in a timely manner otherwise I would have taken care of this earlier. I have never seen a bill produced for any " services". I have again sent in a certified letter cacelling my membership. This time I have kept the receipt for my records.Desired Settlement: I would like my membership cancelled immediately and no longer billed for services I don't want and haven't agreed to. I ended my membership in August. I would like my " debt to synergy fitness" to be correct and reflect a zero balance.
Review: I have tried to end my membership. I was told I needed to send a letter priority mail which I did and have the receipt and confirmation that it was received. I have now been billed once again for a membership I should no longer have. I was charged $20 on 10/**/14 I was also charged on 9/*/14 for a charge of $24.99. I never authorized this charge and it was not stated in my contract that I would be charged this "gym enhancement fee"Desired Settlement: Refund-Credit Card Credit

Sincerely,
Review: In the summer of 2012, I signed a contract at the gym for one year. My account continues to be charged each month, despite the contract ending a long time ago. I have moved out of the country so it is not easy for me to contact them, although I have submitted forms on their website over the past few months with no response.
I finally reached out to the company via email and they were prompt in writing me back. I corresponded with [redacted]. He first told me he found my account with the gym and that it has not been charged for months. When I asked him why my bank account continually showed debits to his company, he investigated again. He informed me that I have a Month-to-Month account, and said in order to cancel it I must send in a certified letter. I never signed a month-to-month contract, since I knew that I would be leaving the country after a year.
The result of my correspondence with [redacted] was that he asked for proof of residence in a foreign country and I sent him a photo via email. He said that my request would not even be honored until 30 days after they received the proof.
This is incredibly unprofessional and sketchy. The gym has evaded my contact, and given me false information about it multiple times when they finally answered me, costing me hundreds of dollars in the process. It is really a shame that a business as shady as this is permitted to function.Desired Settlement: Minimally, I would like the gym to acknowledge that their billing practices are misleading and dishonest. Ideally, I would like a refund of $255.18 for the six excess months they have charged me.
Review: I had agreed to purchase a package of 50 personal training sessions for $3000.00 in mid December of 2013 with the following terms: $500 to be billed upfront, $1000 to be billed in 2 weeks, and the final $1500 to be billed in mid January of 2014. In addition to the 50 personal training, the package included an iPad and 6 months of free membership to Synergy Fitness. Immediately following (5 minutes after leaving the gym) the agreement I returned to cancel the training sessions. They had already billed me $500 and said they could not refund that at all so I requested that they cancel the subsequent payments totaling $2500. The sales representative agreed to take my information out of the billing system and guaranteed that I would not be billed an additional $2500 and that the $500 that had already been billed would go towards a smaller package of 10 personal training sessions. In mid January, I was billed the additional $2500 against my will and contrary to what I had been told by Synergy Fitness. After dozens and dozens of calls, being placed on hold, and promises of refunds, Synergy is claiming that they cannot refund my $2500. I wish to have a full $2500.00 refund and receive a smaller package of 10 personal training sessions. I have continuously been disrespected by Synergy representatives over the phone and have been promised on several occasions that the issue would be taken care of with seriousness. It has been 3 weeks and no refund has been issued and no resolution has been reached.Desired Settlement: I wish to have a full refund of $2500.00 credited back to my checking account and to receive a smaller personal training package of 10 sessions.

Sincerely,
I cancelled my membership in March 2014 and now, August 2015, have received calls from a collections agency claiming I owed over a thousand dollars to Synergy in fees. I have the cancellation notice and yet this has still occurred. The reason I canceled my membership is also stellar - a male employee opened my shower curtain on my while I was showering in the women's locker room. DO NOT USE THIS GYM. It is full of incompetent people who either do not know how to properly cancel a membership or purposefully do it incorrectly. They probably did not even fire the employee who sexually harassed me. I sent my lawyer to get a cancellation and never set foot nearby again.
Review: They have illegally charged my credit card for a membership for which I did not authorize them. When I executed a contract I CROSSED OUT THE AUTO RENEW option and yet they auto renewed my membership. I have called many times and was told that my credit card would be refunded. They have lied to me and have not done so.Desired Settlement: CREDIT MY CARD FOR THE FUNDS STOLEN FROM ME.

Review: I was a member years ago of the gym (C[redacted]) that Synergy took over. They apparently took over their membership roles. I had cancelled my membership with [redacted] years ago with no problem. Now Synergy has put me into collection because I did not cancel with [redacted] following Synergy's cancellation policy (certified letter) Apparently Synergy Fitness is famous for this. I do not think I should pay for anything for a membership I did not have or use ever. I was NEVER a member of Synergy Fitness.Desired Settlement: End collection agency calls, balance zeroed out

Review: I CALLED TO CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME TO SEND A CERTIFIED LETTER TO THE GYM AND IT WILL BE CANCELED. I HAVE DONE THIS AND I DID NOT RECEIVE VERIFICATION THEY RECEIVED IT. IF THE POST OFFICE WAS UNABLE TO DELIVERY IT WOULD HAVE RETURNED TO ME IN THE MAIL. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND TOOK MY NUMBER AND I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED.Desired Settlement: I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME KIND OF REFUND BUT IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE I JUST WANT THEM TO STOP BILLING ME. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY INFORMING THEM TO REJECT ANY CHARGES FROM THIS COMPANY.
Review: On 9/** I received a phone call from a [redacted] (no last name was provided) informing me that I owed Synergy Fitness of Union Square NY approximately $810, and that monthly billings would continue until the balance was paid off, I was also threatened with being sent to collections. This gym membership was cancelled back in March of 2012, well over a year ago, since that time I never received a phone call, mailing, or email, trying to contact me or stating that may membership was still active and I owed the gym anything. I have an email confirming that my membership was canceled due to me moving, an acceptable reason per the contract for canceling, this email is from [redacted] the employee who signed me up originally, of course this person no longer works there, the manager, [redacted] (she refused to provide a last name), did confirm over the phone that other clients of his that rightfully cancelled but he did not process the cancelation. While speaking to [redacted] the manager, she confirmed that the membership was not use for over a year, she then proceeded to threaten me with sending me to collections, and trying to get me to “pay something” to her, she also threaten to continue to bill me for the canceled membership. I called the gym back about an hour later and spoke to [redacted] again when I asked to speak to [redacted] I was told the “she just stepped out”. When I requested [redacted] last name I was told “they did not know”, when I explained that I had an email from [redacted] confirming with him to cancel the contract [redacted] hung up the phone. This is obviously some sort of scam to try and extort money from me, my major concern is that they may try to file a false complaint to collections and my credit may be effected.Desired Settlement: Confirmation of cancelation of membership and proof I will not be harrassed again.

Sincerely,
Review: I attended this gym ([redacted]) in 2011. It was the cheapest gym in the area and they had actually closed the gym down prior to 2011 when I was a prior member and screwed me out of my annual gym membership fee. Despite this issue prior to 2011, I joined the gym after being reassured that things had change and due to the fact that it was affordable. After attending for some time I elected to cancel my membership. Per the contract I was supposed to mail in my letter via certified mail. I did, but obviously have not kept the records from something that was done in 2011. I have multiple email records sent to them after they harassed me claiming I owe them membership fees where I forwarded them the letter and told them to cancel my account via email. They disappeared and then returned over a year later via email claiming I was still a member and hadn't canceled. Again, I made them readily aware that a letter had been sent and they had been notified by email. They then disappeared and now have hired a collection company to harass me and claim I owe $3100, which I do not.
This gym was clearly notified and decided to claim I didn't cancel my membership when I had through multiple forms of communication. The same location had screwed me out of my hard earned money prior and now I have to deal with a credit collection company threatening to tarnish my credit after all of the years and times I had always paid on time and worked on building a very strong credit rating. I have never had an issue with any other gym and now they are threatening to harm my life and credit when there comes a point when I want to buy a house. I have never missed a payment on anything in my life and had to cancel a credit card due to them still trying to charge me after they had been notified through multiple mediums of communication that I had canceled my membership.
This gym is littered with complaints of [redacted] members both past and present with their cancellation policy. [redacted] and other reviews are chock full of complaints of former customers who canceled their policy and then had more credit card charges and claims they didn't cancel the policy correctly. The fact that this is still coming up 4 years after I canceled my membership is baffling. Especially with a company that has such an extensive track record of screwing members, illegally charging credit credit cards and is universally known as trying to make extra money off of people who no longer attend the gym. They actually want to take $3100 from me, which is ludicrous and detrimental to my financial state.
Something needs to be done about this company and their policies. There is ample evidence from multiple former members online that their scamming is a continued practice and they try to screw former members out of their hard earned money instead of running an honest business.
This is an epidemic and I shouldn't have to see my credit and bank account hurt by a company that continually attempts to scam old customers out of gym fees, when they have been notified that said former members want their membership cancelled. They were notified multiple times that I canceled and wanted to cancel my membership and have chosen to ignore them in order to try to screw me out of money. There are also multiple complaints of this type on your website for the same company.Desired Settlement: I want their claims of my funds owed waived and I want them punished for continually trying to harm past members. I want notification from them that I owe no money, my membership is canceled and my credit will not be harmed. I also want this business punished by some governmental agency for continuing these fraudulent and negligent practices.

Review: Synergy fitness demanded certified mail to cancel my membership when I moved. I sent the certified letter. A month later I got a bill for another month of membership. They claimed they didn't receive it and that I would have to come in to show them the certification slip to prove it. but I was far away and not about to fly back to new york for this. I argued with them extensively and they finally agreed to cancel it and I never heard from them again until 10 months later when I suddenly began getting accosted by a collection agency claiming I owed them almost 1000$ dollars. There are dozens of reviews on [redacted] saying the same thing and i'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg. This is a SCAM they are running every day on low-income new yorkers. it MUST be stopped.
I had frequent contact with them in summer 2014. They claimed that they would resolve the problem and then they sent me to a collection agency.Desired Settlement: They need to contact the debt collector they sold this fraudulent debt to and cancel it immediately.

Review: I cancelled my Synergy membership in February 2014. Over a year later, I was contacted by a collections agency saying that I owe over $1,200. The gym is incredibly difficult to get in touch with -- they constantly say that there's no manager on today who can speak with you about the issue, you'll need to call back. Once I did speak with a manager, they said that they never received my cancellation letter and that I would need to deal with the collections agency.Desired Settlement: 1) I would like Synergy to nullify the alleged outstanding payment that they've sent to collections, 2) I would like confirmation from the collections agency that this debt has been removed from their records, and 3) I would like confirmation that the collection agency will not contact me regarding this issue
