We are trying to work
things out with Mrs*** *** but they are very difficult to work with
We did not steal anything from the jobTwo saw horses were taken back to our garage that we thought belonged to us as we have many metal saw horsesWe have since returned those saw horses
It is our sincere intent to settle this claim in a fair manner with this customerWe have never had a single complaint in the past
I've used Schei Home Building for a few projects now (back deck, new bathroom, ceiling fix, etc) Top notch quality and service for everything!
We have been working with Schei Homebuilding on our home restoration since June of We entered a contract agreement with them on October 23, Our contract with them was a full historic home restoration as well as construction of a new additions and garage space It has been the most stressful and awful experience working with Schei Homebuilding We have been lied to, they have been unresponsive to emails, phone calls and text messages We've experienced poor quality work (i.e paint drops all over our new reclaimed wood, one of a kind floors, poor quality window restoration and weather stripping, interior paint that had to be redone by another company, incomplete roofing, and much more)We worked with a dispersing company and have documentation that our job is paid in full, besides the remainder of our painting bid Schei Homebuilding is requesting that we pay him the remaining $10,on our painting budget, but refuses to come back and actually finish the painting, or
We need verbiage for MDS Eastman boundaries on the new and old platsWe have been waiting for a month and a half
My house was destroyed by a tree about nine months agoMy bank introduced me Mark when I asked if they knew any good contractorsAfter explaining to Mark what had happened he was willing to help with stuff before even hiring himI showed him a drawing that a contractor friend of mine had drawn up and told him that is what I wanted and what my budget wasHe met with my loan officer and insurance adjuster as needed to help things get goingAs soon as my loan was approved his team got workingIt was great stopping by and the different people there showing me what was being done and explaining it to meMy friend that is a contractor came by and looked with me a couple time and thought the work being done looked greatThe work was done in a timely manner and we are finally back in our now new homeI can't not be more pleased with this whole company!
We hired Schei Home Building to put an addition on our house in and they did an exceptional job! Mark is extremely knowledgeable and his entire staff was great to work with Mark was so eager to make sure we were completely satisfied that we quickly realized that he had our best interest at heart In fact, he continues to check in with us to make sure everything is still perfect We have recommended Schei Home Building many times and will definitely use them on future projects Our experience was great!
I am being accused of not paying the full amountThis was discussed in great detail and I paid in full, even though I had to finish and paid for mistakes by the company Even *** stated that his CFO, ***, was in over his headI paid all bills on time even when I was promised my house would be completed by MayI did not move in until July*** signed off on the construction loan stating that I had paid all remaining balancesThey stated they would fix issues by October 6, I have not heard from them and it is November 12th I certainly do not want to lead other consumers to believe they handled this situationYet another example of lack of follow through
It was also stated that I purchased items above the allowance in the original bid When in fact, I chose items that were cheaper or paid for items out of pocket
Bid as of 2/4/16: 334,I took out windows and additional trusses in the sitting room, settled on single hung windows (saving 1830.00-now can't clea
This customer is blaming us for a problem that was caused by the civil engineer that she hired completely separate from us and the civil engineering company that we used to build her new homeThe original civil engineering firm she hired created a subdivision plat with the easement for the sewer
line for her new home that was in the wrong placeWe helped her with the boundary adjustment from our civil engineering firm in order to get her sewer line installed and connected, which was all completed satisfactorilyAll she has to do is a quit claim deed with her parents to correct the ownership info for the adjusted parcels We probably would have been happy to help her with these quit claim deed even though we did not create this problem, but She never made the final payments to our company for building her homeThe home that we built her is absolutely beautiful and in very excellent condition.I really want to pursue arbitration with this person so that I can have this complaint resolvedWe built her a very good house for a very fair price and we had nothing to do with the original subdivision plat
why is nothing ever your fault, Mark?! Schei Home Builder
We hired Schei Homebuilding to build our dream home After meeting with Mark and excitingly planning our floor plan and particulars, we were able to move in, November, At that time, we had a list of things that were not completed or not completed to satisfaction It is now June, and many of those same things not completed in November are still not completed in June, We continually send a punch list but either get no response or a no show to a vague appointment date Someone did show up on 5/11/but they were only instructed to fix things on our list
We want to get our home finished We are owed cabinet fronts which we have been waiting on for months, carpeting, repair of painting and drywall, repair of a clogged drain, crooked baseboard and hardware, foundation debris on our lot, and other things not done correctly the first time We have had to fix some of the things at our own expense because we could not wait to get them done
We do not have any
I've worked with Schei Home Building on several projects and the service I received was exceptionalAll projects were time sensitive and all deadlines were hit and the quality of work was excellentThe upfront bids I received were competitive and projects stayed on budget
Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find the comments unreasonable and in some cases untruthful Schei Homebuilding handled every aspect of our project with zero organization or respect for us as clients *** *** practically begged for this job, promising us the absolute best of what he and his company could offer He delivered on NONE of those promises and made life absolutely miserable for our family *** lacked preparation for our project, put off work as long as possible, and sent completely unqualified people to our job site, who on many occasions had told us, "they had to look up on YouTube how to do something." On the instance *** referred to that he was "cussed out", there was a profanity used towards him I used the profanity, after he completely disrespected, and treated me as though I was incompetent I was mortified and disgusted that a man would treat a woman, and client for that matter, in this manner After putting up with this type of treatment from him, for months, I had, had enough, and could no longer be in his presence I left the job site hysterically crying from the treatment I had received, at the hands of a man we hired to work on our project This is the third home we have built, and working with other general contractors, we were always given a timeline for decisions and work to be completed Schei Homebuilding did not provide such deadlines to us (even after being asked for them repeatedly) Without organization or deadlines for the client, a cluster will ensue, and that's exactly what happened In fact, a tentative timeline for work to be completed was put online, but as soon as they knew the deadline would not be met, it was removed (without our knowledge) and never replacedAs far as the budget, *** referred to not being approved, he's absolutely correct There were things in 4th revised budget, that we did not agree to, at the time they delivered it to us We were frustrated that some of the amounts presented to us, would have continued to rise, after *** had months to acquire accurate bids We left this particular meeting with them saying the budget was not approved and we wanted it revised in specific areas (we sent emails to this affect as well) We never received another budget following that meeting, and furthermore were not asked again to sign off on the budget for months Lastly, *** will tell people that he just didn't know if we had the money to complete the job, and that is an absolute LIE He mentioned that he had scheduled work to be done on our million dollar home, when we sold it He knew how much that home was selling for, and he knew that we were approved for over million on the new house project he was taking on For *** to say we weren't "approved for the money needed to finish the project" is just asinine The bank would not have approved us to start another million dollar project, when we were already into another home for $1.3, if we did not have the money It's an excuse he uses to justify not working on our home, not being on our jobsite, and not finishing our job with any attention to detail or pride. There is no good resolution for our family and Schei Homebuilding at this point We are now in the process of fixing the many errors and unfinished work on our homeSchei Homebuilding left our home in an embarrassing state, but will never admit fault at the items that were done so poorly I have a plethora of photos showing the poor quality work done by Schei, but they look at the photos and find excuses as to why it wasn't finished properly The unfortunate end to this is that Schei Homebuilding will go down as botching the restoration of this historic home, when it could have been a wonderful addition to the portfolio for this "small humble company", as *** told us so many times ***'s bid for the restoration of this home was completely off because not only did we pay for it once to his company, but now we are paying for it all again with people who are actually qualified and care I can not, and will not recommend this company to anyone, and will do my best to spread the word to others about the absolutely awful experience we had It's unfortunate that I can not say there is resolution, and I don't see reaching any with them in the near future
Sincerely,
*** And *** ***
I really wanted to give Schei Home building an outstanding review; unfortunately their follow through is absolutely horrificAt the beginning of the building process, *** and his crew were knowledgeable, accessible and professional*** and his crew built my home in in StCharlesSince May 2017, I have been trying to get several things fixed Appointments have been made to get nail pops, cracks in walls, and electrical fixed and have ended in no shows or cancellations I would wait for someone to show up for the appointment, only to deal with a no-show I have no working lights on exterior and continue to deal with nail pops For a business that stated they would be there throughout the lifespan of my house, has clearly made another promise Sadly, I am dealing with issues that shouldn't be issues for a brand new homeI truly hope that someday they will actually make good on their wordFor now, I am still waiting
We have worked with Schei Home Building for a variety of projects in our home, including plumbing and wiring issuesThe customer service is excellentThe company is efficient, trustworthy, and honest, and the work completed is exceptionalWe always refer to Schei Home Building first when we experience any problem in our homeThis company truly goes above and beyond for its customers
Schei Home Building Co has done several interior home improvement/remodeling projects at our homeThey have completely replaced all interior trim and door panels with new base trim and door panels, stained and paintedOur master bath has been totally gutted and replaced with all new material and products And our kitchen has a total make-over from floor to ceiling including all new cabinets, countertops and dishwasherWe are very happy with all the results all done in a timely manner with no complaints regarding workmanship, or quality of work I know that *** *takes pride in his work , and takes extra steps to insure that all elements of the project are done to the best of his knowledge As soon as we find a lot that meets all our requirements Schei Homes will be building our new home
Cabinets
When the project first started, I was sent to a cabinet shop in Creve Coeur MO to pick out my cabinet style and color I spent many hours and two separate visits picking out the cabinetsAfter I did all of that, *** *** told me that “he was not going to work with that cabinet company any longer.” I had to start from scratch I was then asked to go to a cabinet shop in Chesterfield MO to pick out my cabinets I again spent several hours looking at samples and colors and picked out my cabinets again I made it very clear during conversations at both cabinet companies that I wanted FULL OVERLAY cabinet doors This was very important to me and one of the biggest choices of my house Several weeks went by after picking out my cabinets and I still had not received a layout and order like I had with the previous cabinet company I asked about this via email several times and I have all of those emails if proof is needed Nothing was ever sent to me Low and behold,
We have been working with Schei Homebuilding on our home restoration since June of 2015. We entered a contract agreement with them on October 23, 2015. Our contract with them was a full historic home restoration as well as construction of a new additions and garage space. It has been the most...
stressful and awful experience working with Schei Homebuilding. We have been lied to, they have been unresponsive to emails, phone calls and text messages. We've experienced poor quality work (i.e paint drops all over our new reclaimed wood, one of a kind floors, poor quality window restoration and weather stripping, interior paint that had to be redone by another company, incomplete roofing, and much more). We worked with a dispersing company and have documentation that our job is paid in full, besides the remainder of our painting bid. Schei Homebuilding is requesting that we pay him the remaining $10,000 on our painting budget, but refuses to come back and actually finish the painting, or any of the other items on our punch list. I have numerous photos, detailing the poor condition of the home, when it was delivered to our family. Additionally, I have months of emails and text messages detailing the situation, our repeated requests, and lack of response or action. [redacted] calls and says they will come, and no one ever shows. He says if we pay him the remaining $10,000 for paint, he will make sure they come and complete the job. We clearly have no confidence that will ever happen. We are embarrassed of the home, in it's current state, and are beyond disappointed that we chose this company. Working with Schei Homebuilding has caused a year of heartache and stress for our family. We have over $80,000 in state historic tax credits on the line. [redacted] and his company are very aware of this, and still refuse to finish the work they started. There is so much more to this story, and the issues I've mentioned only scratch the surface of what we have been though with them. Although we did begin working with [redacted] and [redacted] early in 2015, they changed the entire scope of work in December of that year which resulted in us having to redraw the entire project and go back through multiple monthly meetings with Kirkwood's ARB, Kirkwood's Land[redacted]s committee and the State of Missouri Historic Committee. Since most of these committees only meet monthly, this was a lengthy process and to get it completed, I had to drive to Jefferson City to meet with plan reviewers. We did not get a permit release until April 19th and even though this was a major historic renovation with a 2550 square foot addition, a two car two story garage addition with a porta cochere and a three car detached garage, we still got a final inspection ready for them to occupy by December 16, 2016. With all the changes to the scope of this project at the time when we were supposed to be starting, it pushed us back not just on this project but all of our other projects. We should have moved them to the back of the list on projects to start but we did not. We started work on their project the day the State Historic Committee and the city of Kirkwood approved us to start. I would agree that there were many emails and texts messages that were not responded to, but we want you to understand the amount of bitterness and unwarranted spitefulness that our company endured while working for the [redacted]. [redacted] constantly made changes and could not make up her mind, but once she did, she expected us to have the new materials on the jobsite in an unreasonable amount of time. At one point she even cussed at me on the jobsite in front of witnesses. One good example of a decision that caused a large delay in the timeline of the project is the hardwood floors that Mrs. [redacted] referenced in her letter. Although she knew she wanted reclaimed hardwood floors from Elmwood Reclaimed Hardwood from the beginning of the project, she did not make her final choice until August 10 and the materials had an 8 week lead time. ( In reality the materials did not even ship complete for 10 weeks, and [redacted] failed to mention that I took time away from y family and the birth of my grand-daughter to visit the Elmwood Flooring Center in Kansas City to help ensure the quality of a product that she had never seen firsthand.) We struggled for three months to have the [redacted] approve the revised budget for original changes to the scope of the project. They also would not sign off on other change orders for the many frequent changes that they continued to make. Eventually we learned that they were not approved for the amount of money that it was going to take to finish the project, and needed to have the project close to completion in order to get a reappraisal to qualify for additional funds. We continued to work off the original budget and managed to get the project far enough along for them to get the re-appraisal and the large loan amount approved. This situation caused a great deal of stress since it created major cash flow issues for our company. We brought many qualified subcontractors and vendors to this awesome project and all but one did a great job. Unfortunately we had selected a painting contractor for this project that was not capable of completing the job satisfactorily, so we hired a second company to redo all of the interior painting and they did a re[redacted]able job. We spent approximately $12,000 of our own money to get this new contractor in to quickly correct the painting mishap. The $10,000 that [redacted] is referring to was the amount that was still remaining in the budget that they owed to us – which has still not been paid. I would agree with [redacted] when she says that "there is so much more to this story". It seems that she has totally forgotten the many times throughout this project when our company and my family went above and beyond for this project. My wife even came to one of the very important Kirkwood Land[redacted]'s Historic committee meeting because [redacted] did not arrange for a baby sitter for her children. When the [redacted] were trying to sell their other 1.3 million dollar home in Wildwood, I arranged to have a punch list of work completed in a very timely manner to help them meet their closing date. I had been working with two other families who were interested in saving this wonderful historic home in Kirkwood from being demolished. Unfortunately, the project proved to be more than they could afford. Since I already had a over a year of my time and effort invested in the project, I was interested in seeing it through to completion. When the [redacted]'s came along, I must admit that I had so much emotion and time invested into trying to save this wonderful piece of history that I did not read the signs very well that we were perhaps going have a difficult time working together. I quickly became somewhat apprehensive when the very first invoice that we submitted took them over a month and half to pay. During the project, many of the people from the community stopped by to check on the progress. They were so happy to see this historic home being renovated. It saddens me to think that some issues got so magnified that the family has lost sight of the beautiful home in a wonderful neighborhood where they now reside are able to raise their children. Thanks ! [redacted] Schei Home Building
Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:[redacted] is not replying to me, his message is to my daughter that hired him. He has caused much stress and cost to my husband and I regarding our property line. He left a job undone and left us with a mess and yearly assessment of a separate plat with it's own street address. My daughter will be filing her own complaint. [redacted] knew exactly what he was working with and thought he could work around msd. So a huge trench sat open on the property for 5 months while he made his legal adjustments for msd. But he left the work undone with St. Louis County
Sincerely,
[redacted]
Response from the electrician : Hi all,Today I went to [redacted] to do the requested repairs. The coach lights on the garage that were not working were due to bad bulbs. We did not supply the fixture or the bulbs so I installed one working bulb (we tested each fixture with a working bulb)...
and left a note saying the bulbs need to be replaced. The homeowner requested that the switching locations be moved around. The plans from the walk-thru with the customer at the electrical rough-in (attached) indicate that the current switching was installed correctly.I was able to accommodate the owner in most of what she wanted1-I was able to make the entry light switch from one location instead of 22-I was able to remove 3 way for living room fan and install two single switches at entry for the living room fan - I also redid the wire connection at the fan so the fan and light will work independently3-I moved the fireplace switch one location over in the sun roomI was not able to separate the fan and light in the sun room - this was originally shown to be a light fixture so it was only wired with 2 wire instead of 3 wire. At the trim-out a fan was there for that room so we installed a fan box to mount the fan. I checked into whether we can get another wire to the fan but the framing of that room is one big header going all the way around - all of our wiring had to go to the basement and back up to avoid the header so getting another wire is impossible. The only thing that can be done now is some type of remote control. One switch will not do anything in the sun room due to changing around 3 ways and not being able to separate the fan in the sun room.Any additional work for the sun room fan will be done on a T&M basis since it is wired according to the plansTell us why here... Schei Home Building and [redacted] have completed all the electrical complaints even though they are unwarranted complaints. We have still not been paid by Ms. [redacted] for here balances due. Please call me with your email address so that I can send you more documention about this electrical info. I have tried attaching info from the Electrician but it does not seem to go through. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 15, 2015/12/30) */
We are happy to...
report that [redacted] and his have team resolved most of the problems to our satisfaction, and they are working on completing the other items. The main complaint was about the cracks in our patio. Not only did they remove the old cracked concrete, but they replaced it with concrete pavers, and the surface looks even better than before, and will be easy to fix if there are any problems in the future. We are very satisfied with the work that has been completed, and would recommend the builder to any prospective client.
I have worked with the folks at Schei Home Building on several occasions. Mark S[redacted] and his crew are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. A pleasure to work with and recommended.
