This company called me to attempt to sell me a security system for a home which I had not purchased yet. I thought this sounded to good to be true, so I declined giving them my credit card or checking information. They said they needed to check my credit and I had asked 4 times is this a HARD PULL or a SOFT PULL. Since soft pulls don't effect your credit, I would have been okay with that, as lots of places use them to determine creditworthiness. I advised them I cannot have a HARD PULL on my credit report, and they advised me that it was done in a way as to not effect your credit. I didn't expressly authorize them to run my credit; I did provide them the last four digits of my social so they could verify who I was, which I won't be doing again. Yesterday, I received an alert from my credit monitoring service that I had a new credit inquiry from Defender Security. I called Defender back not once but 3 times today. The first time the agent gave me a phony email address, when I sent an email to that address I got a bounce back. I called a second time, the agent didn't seem to have a grasp as to what I was asking and stated they needed to pull my credit to set up an account. I advised that I did not authorize that, they put me on hold and after 5 minutes or so they hung up. The 3rd time I called, I spoke with ***, I advised the situation, and she put me on hold. When she came back from hold, she advised that inorder to have the inquiry reversed that they had to send an email to the department in their company that handles that. They don't work on the weekends so she wasn't sure is there was a way to get a hold of them so I had her escalate to her supervisor. Her supervisor *** confirmed that this was the process and that after 48-72 hours they would review my sales call and then send me a letter in the mail as to whether or not they would revert the change. I advised that I need to talk to someone about this in person and she reiterated that there was no one to talk to. I asked if there was any record of me speaking to them other than the phone calls that I had made to them, and she advised that since I didn't authorize them to make an installation, I didn't have an account, so there was only my name in the system as a "Sales Lead". I asked again if the line was recorded, and she confirmed that it was, so I advised on the recorded line that I will be calling Monday morning at 8 am to follow up and that I will continue to follow up until this is resolved.
I agree with everyone else. The bait and switch. Told me they were coming to give me a estimate from ADT never mentioned they were Defenders. Charged a ton of money and didn't do what was promised. Also left without testing the equipment. Luckily I asked them to check as they were leaving and the alarm did not even work. SCAM
PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE BUSINESS, THEY ARE SCAMMERS, UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISHONEST!
If this rating system allowed for a negative star rating, this company would receive five negative stars! WARNING...DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DEFENDERS, INC dba PROTECT YOUR HOME! I wish we had did more research before ultimately doing business with this company who we thought was going to be professional since they represent ADT!
Shame on ADT for associating their good name with this terrible company. This company installed our home security system and ultimately charged us more than what they initially stated. Approximately two months into having the system, the alarm sounded and remained sounding until I arrived home and discovered it. At no point during the sounding of the alarm did ADT or the police make contact with me. It turned out that ADT was never alerted of the system going off.
Further, we later found out that the system this company installed was not needed because the house was already wired for a security system (that another ADT Authorized Premier Provider) had installed. Based on the decision of this company, the equipment was usable and to get more money out of us, they installed an entire new system. We later learned that the system was useable and actually should have been used instead of us being charged a large sum of money for a completely new system. It should be noted that the previously installed system is what we are using now through another provider and we have had absolute no issues or concerns.
In closing, this company's representative told my husband and I that if we were not satisfied that we had a timeframe to cancel the service. We canceled the same day the alarm sounded, which was in the timeframe given to us. We spoke with ADT directly and they canceled our contract with a final bill, which we paid and the system was disconnected.
Six month later this company sends a threatening letter informing us that we needed to pay a ridiculous fee or go to collections. I wrote a letter to this company in response to their threatening letter outlining the situation and one of their representatives called me. The lady on the phone was rude, aggressive and unprofessional and even given the facts, refused to solve this matter. We are now prepared to take this matter higher, because this company is not professional, not honest and void of any integrity.
I don’t think this company should be in business. I’m glad I cancelled in time. (I hope we will see) The installer they send didnt know nothing about doing his job at all. Took him 13.5 hours and did not complete installation of few sensors. Beside that they owned me according to a sign contract 4 outdoor cameras and were to come back to install in few days since they did not have them in stock. I called right before the cancellation expiration and they told me that they cannot provide me with 4 outdoor cameras since they just don’t do it. On my signed contract it clearly says they would. Needless to say the installer never completed installation and the things he installed didn’t work at times. ADT it’s a shame on you to keep this people as your authorized dealer. I wish there was a negative rating for this company.
One star it's too good for this company. The salesperson/installer was advised that I wanted 2 outdoor cameras but said they was on backorder and claimed that they was factored into the equipment credits along with the other equipment, which I really didnt need or want. And he even wrote on the paperwork he gave me "to return to install 2 outdoor cams",After numerous calls and long waits and several rude reps I'm told they don't sell the outside cameras in my area and if I wanted them I have to purchase them from ADT. I was so deceived by this company, They are not to be trusted. I can't understand why ADT is letting them represent them if they care anything about their name and reputation . I thought was doing business directly with ADT not a DECEPTICON
Not only did they not disclose anything on the first call and moved forward with charging my account. I called them three times to fix this issue and did not want to fix the issues!
-Technician showed up to my residence and damaged my cabinets during the install.
- I was charged a prorated amount once the technician attempted to install the system in my home but did not complete the install.
-The tech did not install the equipment that was instructed to do so and installed what we told him not to. We already had the equipment at hour home but he insisted to remove and install his own.
-Tech said that he gets paid depending on how much equipment he installs on the home!
Horrible service! I worked harder to get their business instead of them trying to earn my business. Never recommend to anyone.
The most unprofessional company I've ever done business with. From the start, they were a hasle to deal with. I set up my service over the phone and I was VERY clear on what I wanted. The salesman said no problem and said I should have some money left over for extras--$300 to be exact. When the installer showed up, he did not show up with enough product to secure my home and said it would be $1200 more to secure it correctly. I asked him to leave. He called his manager and they worked out the issue. Against my better judgement, I let them do the install as they cleared up the $1200 issue. Before I knew it, they sent me another contract saying I owe $5.00 more a month because of some armed guard fee. I don't care about the money, but I do care about the oversight and the perception of incompetence. After all, I expect a little more attention to detail of the company involved in securing my home. I didn't sign the contract, but they continued to bill my account including the extra $5.00 a month. From there, it was a customer service nightmare. Being hung up on, being told I can't talk to a manager, not getting calls back from managers, et cetera. An absolute hassle! Even one of the employees said they emailed the manager to have them call me and they never heard back. Whenever a business has a pattern of issues like this, I refuse to do business with them. Now, If they do not refund my money entirely and come get their products, I will be taking legal action and we shall see where it ends up.
These people have cheated me out of nearly a thousand dollars. I cannot afford a lawyer or I would have gotten one to fight this, and I told them so. I had a security system in an apartment which I had an 11 month lease on. I was not planning to stay there longer because I knew that the rent was going to go up higher than I could afford, so when I got the security system I mentioned that to the guy who set it up. However, after I move to another location a year later (which has its own security system paid by building owner so I didn't have to have my own anymore) and cancelled, they continue to monthly charge me. Over the next year I called ADT multiple times, was assured that each charge was the last and that there was a mistake because they had record of my account being cancelled in November, which it was. However, after the sixth or seventh round, one ADT official realized that perhaps the problem was with the third party installer and directed me there. I called and they had the audacity to tell me I signed a three year contract. I signed only terms and conditions type papers and saw nothing about a three year contract. I wouldn't have signed it if I had because obviously I'm not paying for three years of security at a location where I only have an 11 month lease. Come on, people. When I told them this, they kept hedging and saying, "We only install with three year contracts, we offer no other service, you still owe us 900+ dollars" and no matter how much I tried to explain they refused to budge. I went ahead and bit the bullet and paid but this is ridiculous.
They do not deserve any Stars as far as we are concerned. We were deceived and trusted the company to follow through with the outdoor security cameras within 15 days as promised. The installation team showed up with non of the equipment we requested. After 3 attempts to get them out here when they were scheduled we were offered indoor cameras facing outside for 15 days until the outdoor cameras were available. This is where we were tricked and we lost all trust with the company. They never showed up or contacted us after the 15 days. Now they are stating if we cancel we are the ones that get penalized because we signed the contract. The cameras we were promised are not even available in our area. So we let these sneaky untrustworthy people into our home in good faith knowing our cameras would be here in 15 days, they promised to come reinstall them and take the indoor cameras out as soon as they got them. Today I find our they were untruthful. So we get the penalty because we signed. We would have never signed if we had known that the cameras they promised us aren't even available. We made it very clear to them that we only wanted outdoor security. How horrible to treat people this way to make a sale. Now we are waiting on further assistance after 5 hours on the phone today back and forth to resolve this issue. What happened to honesty and real Customer Service. Defenders CSR are very rude. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I can't believe ADT even works with them. I didn't realize we were going through a third party til after the install was done. Please be careful. Dont fall for the nice kids that come out to set you up. It's a scam!!
I was continuously manipulated and lied to. I started my research into ADT online but you can’t get any information unless you give your email address and phone number (red flag went up). I reluctantly did and received a call immediately from someone who gave me basic information, stated that plans ranged from $27-50+, but said the needed to set up an in-home consult so I could see the equipment and hear the different plans custom to my home. She also said she needed a credit cart so they had on file in case I decided to proceed with installation (second red flag). The technician came to my home with equipment and I told him upon arrival I did not want a system installed I was just wanting to know the plans. The technician continued to set up the system and said it was just so I could see what it looked like (red flag #3). He then told me I needed a land line for the cheaper plans which I was unaware of and would not work for my home. My cheapest plan was now $53 a month. I stopped him right there and said that’s more than I want to spend. He said he needed to make a phone call to his manager and stepped outside. When he came back in he proceeded to set up the system like I had not said NO that is more then I wanted to spend. He tried to continue and I kindly said no thank you. When he finally took the equipment down I received a call from the manager. He tried to give me a better price but it was still around $46 a month and it didn’t work for me. He sent me a text message saying you probably want your $100 back so call this number.... I WAS CHARGED $100 WITHOUT MY CONSENT?!?! I called the number to have the representative tell me “there is nothing I can do for you” I lost it!!!! They withheld information, sent someone to set up a system that I did not ask for, wouldn’t take no for an answer, then charged me $100 without my consent! NIGHTMARE!!!! Now this company has personal information of mine, have been inside my home, have seen all entry and exit points and took pictures WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I feel personally manipulated and violated.
First let me say, if there were negative stars, they would get one, but since this is all I have to choose from, I give the lowest rating to these companies. I called ADT to have security system installed in my home. I was quoted 19.95 month for service. At the time of the call I had not closed on my home, but when I called back I was told it was 53.00 month and I was told they don't offer the 19.95 month and that it would be 53.95 month. I informed her I was holding a flyer in my hand that ADT was advertising 27.99 month. How many rates do they offer in trying to entice the customers? Since they would not honor the $19.95, I told them I would contact another company. I received a phone call from ADT on June 5, 2019 and spoke to 3 different people who all agreed to the 19.95 per month. My last person I spoke to was *** B # 22688 who asked what would it take for me to get your service. I replied the 19.95 per month as I was promised. He stated that was no problem, and further stated he would give me 850.00 worth of equipment and he would also throw in the the fire and Carbon Monoxide monitor for a total of $1900.00 worth of free equipment. It would be a 49.00 installation fee but they would give me a $100.00 gift card. Needless to say the technician came as the appointment stated and he installed all the equipment and of course they try to sell you extra equipment by stating how burglers are breaking into homes that have alarms and security and that this extra equipment can stop that as well.. I even discussed with him that the rate I was quoted was 19.95 at the very beginning of the appointment. Now, he does this every day, so he knew at that time that the rate was not going to be 19.95 month, but he wasted my time and his by continuing on with their LIES. He is an it if he or *** thought I would fall for their DISHONEST and SCAMMING ways. I told the tech to get his equipment and get out of my house. Of course he went outside to call his manager as the technician was upset he didn't make any money at my house, because he verbalized that to me. I spoke to the field supervisor who stated because it was cellular service to be monitored on , I could not get the 19.95 a month. This company is a FRAUD and will RIP the consumer off. People do not fall for their WORTHLESS PROMISES. This is a very UNETHICAL company. Why doesn't someone SHUT THEM DOWN? They try BAIT AND SWITCH, and are SCAMMING the people. How many complaints does one company get before there is legal action against them. They also talk bad about the other monitoring companies, and how ADT is the best and how big they are, and they have 6 monitoring stations... and the other companies don't respond in the event of a crisis etc.. LOOK IN THE MIRROR PROTECT YOUR HOME ie DEFENDERS d/b/a/ ADT. ADT they are ruining your name, but then again, you have to be stupid not to see all the negativity against all of ya'll. In addition, when you call ADT, you are led to believe that ADT is coming, instead they send a subcontractor out from Protect Your Home/Defenders.
We got a offer phone call stating that we qualify for 1600.00 worth of credits that could be used for any alarm system and we would receive a 100.00 visa card when the installer came to install the system. We decided to set up a appointment to receive a camera and a alarm system with ADT (Defenders). The installer came out that same day at 1:50 pm and told my husband that he does not carry gift cards so that was the 1st lie that was told. The installer took out all the security items and told us that with the 1600.00 credit we could have whatever we wanted along with the camera system. My husband told him that we are not going to pay out of pocket for anything to be installed and he said not a problem. My husband also asked him how long does this take and quoted us 2 hours. After the clock went to 6:00, again my husband asked him how much longer and said not too much longer. When it became 8:00 at night he finally installed the camera and told my husband that we had to have 299.00 to activate the camera. We told him we didn't have the 299.00 so he took the camera back down. The installer was there for 7 hours to install practically nothing. I called on Monday to cancel the service that he left us with and was told we would not be charged since I cancelled. The next day we was charged for June and July even though we cancelled. I was also told that we would receive a call within 72 hours to schedule a appointment for someone to come out to pick up the equipment. I had to call back to see about setting up this appointment and they wanted to what another 4 days just to call me back to set up the appointment. After I told them I wanted to make the appointment right there and then, she hung up on me. I quickly called back and got another person who set up the appointment for the following day. Now I am worried I will not get my money back for the charges for June and July and that 100.00 Visa gift card and the person will not show up to remove this equipment.
We would give a zero if we could. Working with this company has been a nightmare. We thought we were contracting with ADT only to learn later that it was Defenders. We responded to a mailbox circular and obviously missed the fine print at the bottom of the ad. We should have noted a red flag when the initial call lasted two hours with a credit check before we could schedule someone to come out and talk with us. The technician (***) came the next day and the system was partially installed after a full day (we were told it would take about two hours). We signed the contract for a whopping $4775,95 . We had second thoughts after the botched installation and faxed the order to cancel the service and texted the technician to send someone to pick up their equipment. We contacted our bank to initiate a dispute so that the payment would not be made.
Another technician (***), who has assisted with the installation, called and asked if he could talk to us after the cancellation. He came by and lowered the cost to $2070.40 and removed some of the unnecessary equipment that had been installed. The bank intervened and the difference (&2705.49) was credited to our account, leaving a correct payment to Defenders for $2070.40. Subsequently Defenders also issued a credit of $911 on Mar 12 that was later refunded on Apr 4 because the correct amount had been paid. Our bank records substantiate all of these details and confirm that we have paid Defenders the invoiced amount. Protect Your Home continues to call and insist that we owe them money. I have confirmed with our bank that we owe them nothing! I have tried to explain this to them. They have hung up on me, refused to let me speak with a manager. I faxed all of the related documents to Defenders (rep named ***). I have heard nothing and the harassing phone calls have continued.
Low quality work with partial installations and inaccurate records resulting in harassing phone calls. This has been one of the biggest mistakes that we had made regarding any home related service. I have detailed records and plan to continue to press this issue with them until I get resolution. They will not bully us into paying money that we do not owe. I believe that this is a regular business practice and this company should be reprimanded.
Worst company that I have ever worked with. Very unethical. Overcharged us multiple times. Customer service individuals hung up on us. Others claimed that someone would return our call on 2 different occasions and never did.
One star because it is still ongoing and I HOPE it is resolved soon...
How did I ever get suckered by this company!! I could of swore I called ADT directly and made the deal with ADT just to find out I am stuck with DEFENDERS... Tech came out to install security system 1st week of May, he sold me a bunch of extras that I did not need BUT was told it was the only way for me to get such a great deal and credit for equipment. System was half installed, tech told us that the outside cameras he had with him were "bad quality" and he would come by on May 20th with the new ones... May 20th came and went and no tech, I tried to call/text him and was getting no response, finally after calling customer care they got the tech on the phone ONLY to get a story from the tech about him being in meetings and not having time to call me back. I went on ADT FaceBook site and messaged them, only to find out they are monitoring my system BUT have nothing to do with the install, they got someone from Defenders to email me and try to resolve the issue; the person I was emailing seemed concerned and helpful, informed me the cameras the tech left at my house (the bad quality outdoor cameras) were actually indoor and not outdoor cameras, so we set the tech to come out today (Wed. May 29th between 3-5pm) AND NOT TECH and no call, I called customer care and after being on hold for 10+ minutes was told the tech was still at an install and would go to my house after he got done REALLY, you mean at NIGHT like I have nothing else to do but accommodate these people and hang out with them on a weeknight ...
I am beyond frustrated, I feel taken advantage of and feel like Defenders just laughs at their customers while taking their money. Is there anything anyone can do? As I read previous review, if they haven't satisfactory completed their end of the contract the contract should be able to be voided and I should be able to get my money back. We paid IN FULL!
Oh and if this wasn't enough, I got a promo for a VISA gift card of $100 WHICH I have to send a cashiers check or money order for them to send the gift card to me!
RED FLAGS all over the place!
Our time with this company has been a joke everything from promises to handle permits. Our equipment being faulty and not preventing loss. I would highly recommend using any other form of home protection over defender or ADT.
I had schedule an appointment with a technician (a manager made the appointment) it was scheduled for Saturday 25,2019 between 10 to 2pm. Nobody had showed or had the courtesy to call me. I tried to contact a manager twice however customer service associate was the only one that attempted to contact the technician after 3pm and no answer from him or his supervisor.
I was told I would get all equipment for free as compensation for the monthly fee by *** S. I was never told about a charge for pulse whatever that is and have an extra $564 added to nothing for anything except $105 for installation. They will not bring the recording up for *** S and put you on hold until all the calls are put through until it hangs up!
I was living in an apartment complex back in 2016, and they came on hard and fast with what was seemingly a good deal. Only problem was there were constant issues that were NEVER addressed, yet I kept making the payments to avoid issues. We moved out in June 2017 to a home, and told them we no longer needed their system. I offered for them to come take their equipment, and they stated better of factly that they did not want the equipment. They since referred me to collection. Ironically the collection agency stated they receive so many complaints about them.
Beware of them before you get scammed. Definitely not worth the aggravation and crappy service.
THIS company is a SCAM and have put me in collections over an account that was downgraded and supposed to be cancelled due to the technician "loosing paperwork" I just talked to PAtrielle and Jasmine but were extremely rude and condescending. I dont even know what to do at this point the collections agency said I have to take it up wth them but Defenders is refusing any help
