Review: My personal information is being displayed online via their website which I do not want to be displayed to the public. I have safety concerns about my address full name and previous info being displayed online. According to their policy they have an Opt Out Feature which requires you to fill out a form online in their website to find your listing and select an opt out. When I search my name it does not display for me to opt out I have attempted numerous times searching my name in different formats and even residing in different states to no avail. They are purposely blocking my name from being displayed so that I can not opt out of my records to be displayed to the public. They are purposely withholding my info so that they can continue to do this illegal practice.Desired Settlement: I want this illegal practice to stop where your name does not appear in their search block from their website for the opt out selection not only for me but also for others who are encountering this problem of not having the ability to opt out. I also want my name and records opted out immediately so that my info will stop being displayed to the public via their website.

Consumer's Final Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have contacted business by phone and e mail. I will have to wait and see if I receive a bill in the next month. Seems they cannot find my account
Review: I was trying to look up one birthdate. After viewing several sites I realized I was going to have to sign up for a trial period to find out the information. I did so on people finders.com and knew it was going to cost me 95 cents for the trial which lasted three days. After this period was up, it was going to be 24.95 a month for the service. I looked up the one birthday I needed and immediately went to cancel, as I knew there was not going to be anything else I would need to purchase a monthly subscription for. I went to cancel the membership and noticed there were two that I was signed up for. I only recalled one. I pressed to cancel both of them one at a time. One had a confirmation button agreeing to the 2.95 to cancel. I thought at this point I was all done and set. I have since noticed I was charged the full 24.95 for the month. When I called the customer service, they were very rude as I was explaining I went online to cancel it right away. She stated I only cancelled one service. Which at this point I still wasn't sure how I was signed up for two separate services but recalled cancelling them both. I was refused a refund for the monthly subscription. I was told I would receive a confirmatoon email which I did not receive for either of the cancellations. The only email I received was an order confirmation for 48 cents. Which I did not understand as I was charged another 47 cents to equal the 95 cents. This was unclear as to why I did not get the email for both charges.Desired Settlement: I only want a refund for the 24.95 monthly charge as I cancelled the same day and before the 3 day trial was up. I completely understand paying the 95 cents for the trial and the 2.95 to cancel the trial.
Business
Response:
The customer had signed up for two memberships. We have refunded the $24.95, there will be no further membership renewals.
Consumer
Response:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Review: I signed up for a one time search for less than one dollar. I was then charged a monthly fee without notification which totaled about $150. I feel the webstite format is intentionally misleading at best and this business uses unethical practices to get the consumer's money for services not provided.Peoplefinders did issue a partial refund when I complained but I am still out $75 and feel I should only be responsible for the original one time search charge I requested.Desired Settlement: Refund for all charges except for actual searches performed.
Business
Response:
We have reviewed our files and our
records show that an order for a search was conducted by the customer on 3/13/2013. At that
time they had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a
monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. The membership option was affirmatively
selected by them. That membership
provided a three day trial to try our services.
Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features
for a monthly fee. This is clearly and
conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an section directly under the total outlining the terms of the membership which again clearly
states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service
the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged
until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than
two times on two pages before the order is complete. If this customer's intention was to run only one search, then he had in fact selected the wrong product.
Given that
members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms
do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to
avoid future charges. For the period of his membership the customer was charged
each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take the cancellation
at any time. We did not receive a
contact from the customer until seven months
after the membership was initiated. On 12/4/2013 we agreed to refund four charges of $24.95 each as a one time courtesy. Additionally, on 12/11/2013 we received notice of an inquiry through Discover card for the remaining charges. We will comply with this inquiry and provide the requested information to his credit card company. We are unable to provide any further refunds per the Terms agreed to, the dispute through Discover and the amount of time that has passed since these charges occurred. In conclusion, the account is closed and we
have provided four months of
refunds totaling $99.80.
Review: I have tried to contact by phone and by letter People Finders.com 1821 Q street Sacramento 95811 Phone 800-718-8997 in regards to an address showing my husbands name [redacted] and a [redacted] (maiden name [redacted]) [redacted] They will give me no information as to how they have this on their website They hang up on me, and my letter come back in complete address. My husband is not too happy about his name at that address When he has not had contact with address in anyway-OR with [redacted]Desired Settlement: Inform me of how you obtained the information on your website and then remove it.
Business
Response:
We have reviewed our files and found that we have not received an opt out request regarding these listings. This is why, searching today, you should still be able to find the information online. These listings have not been removed from the site yet. You may submit an opt out request through the mail if you wish and the address you provided is in fact correct. However, an easy to use online tool is available to remove these listings within hours. It is a simple 4 page process which you may complete online.
For your convenience, below is a direct link to the opt out page.
http://www.peoplefinders.com/manage/default.aspx
Please follow the prompts from there to successfully remove your public record data from appearing on PeopleFinders.com.
Public records are collected from thousands of sources. Here are a few examples:
Supermarket Rewards Cards:
Every time anyone makes a purchase from a grocery store or drugstore with a loyalty or "rewards" card, that information is used to build a very personal profile of your shopping habits.
Product Warranty and Registration Cards:
Do you fill out the warranty and product registration cards for every new product you purchase? If so, you probably assume this is standard procedure for making sure your warranty is valid. In fact, warranty and product registration cards do very little for the consumer. Moreover, all your personal information on warranty cards is collected and used for marketing purposes.
Raffles and Sweepstakes:
Though raffles and sweepstakes offer a one-in-a-million chance of winning some type of luxury item, free gym memberships or dream vacations you should be aware how your contact information is used. Often, you are asked to proved Name, address and phone number as a means of contacting you in the event you should win. In reality, this information is used for direct marketing purposes.
You do not always have to enter a raffle or surf the Internet for someone to collect personal data about you. In fact, many of the activities and responsibilities you have as a member of society, property owner and licensed driver contribute to what is known as your "Public Profile." Other sources include voter registration, hunting and fishing licenses, magazine subscriptions and much more.
We do our best to remove any new information that comes in after we have received an opt out request but this is not 100% accurate. Anytime you publicly report your information to companies and organizations, this information may be updated in public record databases and therefore will return results when doing a search for public record files. If you see your name appear on our site after going through the opt out process you will need to notify us so we can remove it. We are one of hundreds of websites that provide this information.
Review: I used PeopleFinders "PF" website to obtain information about 1 person. I paid $1.45 for this service. Surreptitiously and absent my consent PF signed me up for a monthly service and charged my debit card $24.95. I did not catch the charge the first 2 months so was charged for a third month at $24.95. If their website includes notice that they intend to sign you up and then I would have to affirmatively cancel that membership then this notice is inadequate. I never received notice that they would charge my debit card for a monthly service that I did not use. PF acted in bad faith by not reversing the charges for $24.95 x 3 because I never used that service and cancelled after 90 days once I saw my debit charge in my account. A contract was never formed because I did not knowingly assent. A service contract requires assent.Desired Settlement: Reverse the charges for 3 x $24.95 ($74.85). PF should also cease and desist these deceptive practices. If PF refuses I intend to bring action in Virginia small claims court.

Response:
The customer is correct in stating that they made an initial purchase of $1.45. They selected to purchase a People Search Report + Trial membership for a total of $0.95, then then selected to have the report emailed directly to them for $.50 totaling $1.45. We have included a screen shot of the website that states that product is coming with a trial membership. The customer also is shown before the final check out that they are signing up for a membership. They also checked the box to agree to the Terms of Use which states previous months are not refundable. The membership has now been canceled, there will be no further renewals. As a courtesy we are refunding the most current months billing of $24.95 that posted on 12/09/15.
Consumer
Response:
I am rejecting this response because: While I appreciate PeopleFinder's courtesy and willingness to refund my December payment, I believe that they should do more. I am an educated man and would not have agreed to a monthly service that I have no need for. I was attempting to find contact information for one person one time and the fact that PeopleFinders has almost 200 complaints against their billing practices suggests to me that the website could be more straightforward. $48.90 seems like a great deal of money for a phone number that did not work. The $24.95 collected in October should be sufficient and fair payment for contact information for one person, one time. If they check their records, they will see that no additional inquiries were attempted. If PeopleFinders would be willing to refund an additional $24.95 for the month of November, I would consider this matter settled equitably. Thank you. - [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Review: On December 5th, 2014 I opened an account with PeopleFinders and I was charged $19.95. Ive learned that if I close the account in less than three days Ill be charged only $2.95, cancellation fees. I closed the account in about one hour after I opened it and I was not reimbursed for $19.95 as it was specified on the website minus the cancellation fees. A few days later I was charged again $2.95 for the cancellation fees. Ive sent a few e-mails and Ive called the Customer Service Team They wont reimburse me the money; they said that it is the price for accessing a report! The reason I used the website was because they advertised this attractive promotion. For less than $10.00 one can use another website for a month, not for an hour or three days.Desired Settlement: I want to be reimbursed for the amount of $19.95, the amount I was charged without my approval.
Business
Response:
At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price of $19.95 for a Comprehensive Background Report + Trial Membership product. A total of $19.95 is displayed on each page of checkout. The regular price for this same product without trial membership is $39.95. You received a discount (report $19.95 instead of $39.95) because you signed up for a 3 day free trial to our Membership. The trial refers to the Membership only. You have 3 days to cancel the trial to the Membership which, if not cancelled, will automatically charge you a monthly membership fee of $29.95. As stated on each page of checkout, if cancelled within the three days, pay only $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Your original purchase of is not affected. The total that is displayed during checkout is the amount that will be billed by clicking "Complete Purchase." As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered. Feel free to review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.
Review: My temporary membership was renewed without my permission in only 5 days after I paid for a limited membership. The limited membership cost $19.95. They charged me $29.95 for the renewal. I believe I was deceived and am sure this is not the first complaint about this practice. They ignored my request to return my money.Desired Settlement: Refund $29.95.
Business
Response:
At the time of purchase on 1/6/2015 you chose to receive a discounted price ($19.95) for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and valueYou had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial had ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee ($29.95) on the fourth day. We received your request over the phone on 1/13/2015, and cancelled your membership. It will automatically expire on 2/9/2015, and you can enjoy all the great benefits of this service until then. The charge of $2.95 was added by you after checkout for a five pack of Reverse Phone Vouchers. These are still available on your account, they have no expiration date. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Response:
I am rejecting this response because: It is obvious, despite your much touted benefits, this business was designed ,deliberately, to trap customers into additional charges when they are slow to cancel (in three days). Persons who designed this site, and those who operate it should be ashamed to be participants in deceptive trickery. Let me hear it : "WE ARE ASHAMED !" California should send them packing!
Review: Tried to do a background check on an individual and was only given the public information. When I spoke with the first representative she did not advise me that I had been charged 2x's and indicated that I would not be able to have a refund. I requested to speak with a supervisor and she said they were busy and could transfer me to a voicemail. I asked for her name and advised that I didn't want to go to voicemail that I would prefer to wait for a supervisor. She told me I couldn't wait for a supervisor due to people holding and transferred me to the voicemail. I left a voicemail and called back, this time I spoke with Wendi. She advised that I had been charged 2 times and refunded me for one of the charges. I told her that I wanted to be refunded for both as I was not given what I expected to receive. She advised that she couldn't refund me for both but could the one. I advised that I found it a little strange that I was charged twice for the same report and not given what I selected. Wendi advised that I selected the people search and not the background check. She too could not refund the purchase. I called back again and finally spoke with Sarah a supervisor. She also indicated that the the reports were purchased 12 minutes apart and that one of them had been refunded but the other couldn't because it was what I chose. I insisted that this isn't what I chose nor did I choose it 2 times and it sounded like something glitchy was going on. I requested to have all my funds refunded do to this not being the product that I was requesting and she indicated due to it being a self serve site it is what I chose and that I would not be refunded per the terms and conditions. I did indicate that I hated to contact the Revdex.com over this small amount, but the fact is it wasn't the product I expected. Sarah said go ahead the Revdex.com is just a mediator and I would get the same response going there.Desired Settlement: I want the full refund for not getting the expected product.
Business
Response:
We have reviewed our files and our records show an order for a search was placed by you on 12/29/2014 at 9:08AM PST. A $2.95 Public Records Report was in fact selected and is still available for viewing in the My Reports section of your user account. We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, PeopleFinders pays for access to the data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf. We are unable to provide a refund, but a courtesy people or public records search is available on your account to help you find the facts you need. Feel free to review the Terms of Use you agreed to on PeopleFinders.com again if you would like more information about refunds or other policies. As was stated over the phone, the normal price for a background check on PeopleFinders.com is $39.95. Your payment of $2.95 does not cover the cost to generate a comprehensive background report. You are welcome to select and purchase a background check on PeopleFinders.com at any time.
Consumer
Response:
I am rejecting this response because:Providing with another search is irrelevant. The site said: Special Offer: 3-Day TrialIncludes Unlimited background, people, property reports & more. If canceled within 3 days, pay only $2.95 for trial. After the trial, you will be billed $29.95/month.I chose the option that said $2.95 thinking I was getting the background check. I believe that your site is worded that others are tricked into thinking they are getting something they are not. I am not wanting a people search as I can get that information on my own. I was wanting the criminal background. I found your site to be worded in a confusing manor and feel that you should respect the consumer as it is only $2.95 for you but that is a lot for me to just throw away on nothing.
Business
Response:
For your review, we have attached a screenshot of the product you selected on PeopleFinders.com. Note that no mention of a background check is made relating to this $2.95 product. As stated in the Terms of Use you agreed to and as we have advised, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered.
This not a legitimate business. I specifically said that I did not want to buy an annual membership, but they charged me for it anyway. When I called the 800 number on the bill to inquire, they said that I had reached the wrong number and could not assist me.
I called my credit card company and they connected me with the company. The representative was hilariously rude to me. The Capital One representative apologized and said she'd never heard such a rude merchant before, lol!
Review: My bank acct. was charged by peoplefinders.com 2 times on 1-14-2016 for .47 & .48 cents & again on 1-19-16 for $24.95. I called the # on my bank acct.associated w/ these charges & the customer care associate claimed I had not used or been charged since July 2015 & claimed I had no acct. I was asked if I had another e-mail address associated w/peoplefinders. I said no & they just hung up on me. I called back & was once again hung up on.
They say I have no acct. though I can sign in on the site...if I have no acct.how could I log in & why was my bank acct. charged? I never got a chance to ask because they hung up on me twice. I assume they will continue to charge me every month though they claim I have no acct.Desired Settlement: I would like an explanation of charges & a refund.
If according to them I have no acct. then what am I being charged for. Even if there is another e-mail address associated w/the acct. they should have it on record but instead of explaining anything to me they hung up on me twice! Since they deny I have an acct.at all but are charging me then I want a refund if I'm being charged for "nothing".

Response:
We apologize for any confusion. There are 2 accounts we find in your name. The first account was set up on 7/04/15 with a charge of $0.97 and $0.98. This is the account the rep found when you called in. After doing further research, we found a more recent account set up on 1/13/16 ( these are the charges in your question) They were for a reverse phone search on #[redacted] for $0.48. You then received a voucher for a second search at $0.47. You had also signed up for a membership at that time for $24.95. However, we have refunded you the $24.95. There will be no further billings.
