To Whom It May Concern,We met with Mr*** on 10/26/and explained our refund policy in detail and went over the attached signed enrollment form. When Mr*** enrolled his son he agreed to our terms and signed the enrollment form. He even crossed out the hours
and changed it to hours before he signed it. (see attached). There was nothing in writing that he had an agreement with Ms***. The staff has attempted to contact Mr*** numerous times to know avail. We sent the attached email to him on 11/14/17, without any response The email states that we would refund him the unused hours and also refund him the week that he was on vacation as a courtesy(see attached)We are open days a week. *** *** could have made up the hours any other day or stayed longer any particular session. This business consistently stands on the "put the students first" motto However their actions tell a different story Their "suggestions and recommendations" to parents center around just making most money Also if parents expect a refund, it will either take over a year or may not happen at all A child's education and future is certainly not put first
I will never recommend this Huntington to anyone for any reason Management's mind is only on money

We have the initial call recorded and what she is saying is not reflectedShe was also given the opportunity to see the test and said she would call back with a time/date so she and her son could see it and never returned the call to set that up

I apologize, not sure what the issue is?  Huntington issued credit to [redacted], I will call today to get this settled ASAP.Sorry for the inconvenience.T. S[redacted]

Dear [redacted]:I am writing in response to a letter I received from the Revdex.com dated February 25, 2016 regarding a complaint from a former tutoring student, [redacted].Huntington Learning Center has been providing tutoring services in the Langhorne, Pennsylvania area since 1985....

We take pride in the positive results we’ve seen over the years and continue to be committed to our students and their families. All HLC teachers are state certified and well trained in the HLC methods of instruction. In late October 2015, [redacted] and his son [redacted] came to the Huntington Learning Center in Langhorne, PA. They were interested in GED instruction in math only. They came to the center with no information about [redacted]’ prior GED scores or areas for improvement. They did state that [redacted] has passed the Reading and English portions of the GED and that he hoped to eventually take the military entrance exam. [redacted]’ father financed 40 hours of instruction totaling $2,600.After our discussion, our director set up a schedule for [redacted] with a secondary certified math teacher and began instruction in the areas of mathematics outlined by the GED. [redacted] attended tutoring sessions from 10/26/15 to 11/21/15. During this time our teacher used the most recent GED curriculum as well as our own Huntington materials to supplement specific skills. Contrary to the complaint made by the student, the correct material was taught to pass the test. Specifically, our teacher used Research and Education Association’s Total Solution for the GED Test Aligned for the redesigned 2014 GED Test as well as our own Huntington Math materials which helped to target specific skills and supplement the GED preparation book. After completing his tutoring sessions, [redacted] took the GED on 11/24/15 and scored a 143 on this exam (according to his step-mother, a 145 would have been a passing score). Based on a score report from GED, and feedback from the teacher, we recommended more tutoring which was documented in an email to [redacted]’ step-mother dated November 10, 2015. We noted that [redacted]’ basic skills in multiplication and division were lacking, and as a result, [redacted] was having difficulty learning and/or retaining many of the concepts required to pass the GED. At this point, [redacted] decided to stop his tutoring at Huntington. [redacted]’ last session was on 11/21/15, he did not return to Huntington until 1/19/16 despite our feedback that he required additional tutoring.[redacted] returned to Huntington in January of 2016 for three sessions (1/19, 1/21, 1/22) to “brush up” on his skills prior to taking the GED again. We once again reiterated to [redacted] that we felt that taking the GED was premature, especially after an almost 2 month hiatus. It was at this point that [redacted] mentioned to our director that he did not feel ready for the test, but his parents signed him up despite his concerns. Our center received an email dated 2/8/16 from his stepmother stating that, “Jimmy did take the GED test again on Feb 3rd and failed again. This time with a 127 he needed a 145 to pass.”Huntington Learning Center maintains that we provided forty hours of instruction with a certified math teacher using the correct materials for the 2015/16 GED exam. In February 2016, [redacted]’ stepmother, [redacted], emailed and called the center to request a refund, based on the fact [redacted] did not pass the GED test. We informed them we fulfilled our commitment in providing instruction and providing them with progress throughout the period of instruction. Please let me know if any further information to the Revdex.com is needed.Sincerely,Philip *. C.Huntington Learning Center, Franchisee

August 10, 2015[redacted]:I have received the complaint letter from your bureau with the ID assignment of [redacted].  Although I am very disappointed that [redacted] is going through such lengths to slander the reputation of both Huntington Learning Center and me I have to say that I am not...

surprised.[redacted] (the student’s grandmother) called me after I had spoken to her daughter (the student’s mother) in regards to the student dropping out of the program.  When the mother asked me about receiving a refund for her unused time I explained that there was NO unused time. I proceeded to explain to her that the times that she’d canceled at the last minute counted as used time. I then explained that the teacher was already onsite and waiting for the student and therefor had to be paid.  I also explained to her that although the time was considered used that I would allow her child to receive all of that time in tutoring in the future but that I could not refund her for time that she was either a no-call/no-show or simply a no-show in response she hung up on me. I proceeded to call her back immediately and although she did not answer, I left a voicemail asking her to call me back or to make an appointment to come into the center.  She did neither. A few days later the student’s grandmother called me she (as it states in her letter) informed me that her grandson had been retained and that he had been diagnosed with some issues.  I explained to her that we are committed to our students regardless of diagnoses and that in the time that her grandson had been here we saw progress that we could build on.  I also advised her that with consistency and repetition that I was confident that we could help her grandson to acquire missing skills.  During the conversation she was polite at first but when I explained to her that unscheduled absences were considered used time and that all I could do is to allow him to make-up the time she became belligerent, and began screaming at me, threatening litigation as well as to call my corporate office.  When she called my corporate office she told countless untruths. She said that she’d called me repeatedly (there were no voicemails from her with the exception of the two in one day that were left back to back which prompted my call to her immediately).  She said that she was on a monthly payment plan and that I coerced her daughter into getting off of the monthly payment plan and into taking out a loan. (They were never on monthly payments they started the program with YTS funding in place).  I was told that she also stated that I said that I would refund the money if her grandson was diagnosed LD. (I would never say that to anyone, doing so would indicate that there is no hope for the student and our very slogan is “YOUR CHILD CAN LEARN”). In all honesty I did say “this is a business”, I made the statement as a precursor for my next statement regarding paying the teachers for their time even when the student is a no-show.  I thought that by putting it that way I would be putting it into relatable terms and that it would help her to understand that we would incur a double loss if I refund her money that had already been paid out to the teacher.  In addition, she has no idea that I’d actually gone over and beyond to be accommodating when I offered to allow them to make-up the time.  By relaying that information to our corporate office she essentially divulged the fact that I was willing to break company rules in order to both help the child and to please her.  I’d like to add, in all of the years that I have been doing this job nobody has ever called me a liar nor have I been called such a thing in my personal life. Professional, my staff and I go over and above the call of duty to help our students to achieve academic success; I have literally devoted my life to it.  Moreover, my staff has been successful in helping students diagnosed with Down ’s syndrome, Asperger’s, ADD, ADHD, hearing disorders, cognitive processing disorders, and the list goes on. We have never, ever given up on a child because of a learning difference.  In addition, please be advised that the anticipated arrival of her grandson for his scheduled tutoring sessions took extra preparation.  He has peanut allergies and before he would arrive we would make sure that the center was prepared for his safety.  All surfaces were cleaned and sanitized everyday just for him which takes time and a lot of effort. In addition, please be advised that we are not “affiliated” with the lender that serviced [redacted]’s loan (YTS).  Affiliation would indicate that we receive kickbacks or perks when a parent selects the financial offering and that is not the case at all, once again [redacted] is stating a non-fact.  In truth we pay THEM a fee for the convenience of being able to offer our parents a financing option.  For example although, we only received $7031 of the $8360 that the client was awarded the parent is not penalized in any way. Meaning they still receive the quoted amount of instruction time to our financial loss.  To that end, the client asserts that we would owe her a refund of $8360 and that her loan was for $8500 that is absolutely ridiculous and is another untruth.  Although I understand that she is disappointed that she will not be getting a refund for the times that they’d scheduled but did not show I am curious as to how she can believe that she deserves a FULL refund. If it were possible for me to charge her for only the time that the student was in attendance her fee would be $4057.  Please inform [redacted] that I will do everything that I can to resolve this matter but she will need to make an appointment to come in and speak to me directly.  [redacted], I have done absolutely nothing wrong in this case, I hope that my center will not be penalized with your bureau for this issue.  We do not deserve the blemish that these allegations would produce.  I personally try to make every client happy and I usually do so by providing the best academic content delivery and customer service possible. In this case I am still willing to do all that I can to provide a solution that will benefit both parties and that will not cost me my position. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by email, phone or mail.Respectfully,K.L.
