Thank you Sara for taking the time to let everyone know how your experience with us was, we really appreciate it.

For the past 2 years I've been a customer of Huft and have paid for their silver club service providing 2 service tune ups per year with inspection along with 24/7 service calls. In March of this year (2019) our heating unit failed and Huft came out and repaired and replaced the fan blower and pressure switch based on what I see on our paper invoices from the service. In addition to paying for parts and labor for this repair, I also paid for what they list as a "platinum package" warranty service, an additional $1000. During our yearly service inspection this week (October 2019) of our heating unit, the technician described an impending failure of our igniter and recommended its replacement. I informed the technician of our "platinum package" warranty service paid for earlier this year for our heating unit and showed the paper receipt I have from that repair. He stated that he was unsure if the igniter would be covered and went back to his van to check. He returned and informed me and my wife (our nanny was also present during this discussion as an additional witness) that our "platinum package" would cover the cost of replacing the igniter in our heating unit and he had the part in hand. It seemed clear at that moment to both myself and my wife that there was not going to be a charge for repairs and service as we were not provided a written or verbal estimate. I stated that it was ok to proceed to install the igniter part based on this information, believing that there would be no charge for this service as it would be covered under the "platinum package" and our silver club membership. After installing the part and finishing the inspection and repair, the technician, then stated "I'm afraid I misspoke earlier, the igniter is not covered by your platinum package." He then went further trying to explain to me that the igniter was independent of the prior repairs done in March. Had I known this previously I would have reconsidered the replacement of the igniter, however I was left without recourse other than to pay for a service that I was not expecting and had not verbally or agreed to in writing. The technician at no point provided us a verbal or written estimate nor did I sign an estimate prior to this work being completed. Additionally, I have no written explanation that clearly describes what this "platinum package" covers nor do I really understand what this supposed warranty covers now. Based on the above events, I question it's opaque nature and openly question whether it is a scam.
Later in the day after this service, my wife called Huft to complain about what had transpired. Please recall from above that my wife was present when the technician initially stated that the igniter would be covered under our platinum package thus we would not be incurring a charge. Whoever fielded her call at Huft did not acknowledge her complaint as it was not escalated to a supervisor or manager, instead it was redirected back to the technician who provided the service. The technician did not attempt to resolve our complaint and instead reiterated that the "platinum package" did not cover the igniter. He fails to understand that he initially mistakenly informed us that the igniter was covered and then proceeded to install it only to later recognize his error. Again, I have to emphasize that we were not provided a written or verbal estimate prior to install as the assumption was that it would be covered at no charge. I never agreed to pay for this service prior to its performance and the fault lies on the technician. It's absurdly poor customer service to be at fault and not be willing to reimburse or write off these costs. Our complaint was never escalated to management, we never received a call back from Huft to confirm that the situation was resolved, and I am seriously wondering if my wife's complaint was ignored and deflected because of her sex.

Good morning, I have read the complaint I do agree with the complainant that a refund should be issued for the igniter my technician installed after telling them it would be covered, I have issued a full refund of the $231.30 back to the credit card it was paid by. The "Platinum" repair they paid for in March did have anything to do with the igniter. The technician made a mistake in saying it would be a no charge repair and made a second mistake trying to fix the first by charging them when he should not have charged them which is why I have issued the refund. The "Platinum" repair they opted for earlier this year covered the pressure switch, performance and safety testing after the repair, cleaning the furnace, and came with a 2 year warranty on the repair and a 1 year safety inspection for the work that was completed that day to make sure there were no issues. We are not a "scam" type of company. The technician made an honest mistake and the gender of a customer does not make a difference whether her phone call was escalated to a supervisor or not. We like to have the technicians try to resolve any issues with customers first as they are the ones in the home and if that does not resolve the situation then we escalate it to a manager. I listened to the call recording and the customer asked for billing, not to speak with a supervisor or manager, had she asked for a manager I would have called them back yesterday when I was back from vacation. I would prefer to keep all of our customers for life and am willing to extend their Silver Club membership for one year at no cost. Please advise me if this is satisfactory to the complainant.

Sincerely,

***

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

We have utilized air & heater service/ mainntanace from Huft the past 3 yrs., & we’ve been totally satisfied with the service that has been provided, from making appointments with the phone receptionist to the serviceman (Patrick).

Huft Heating & Air Conditioning is truly a first class experiance. I worked directly with their General Manager to remove my old rooftop package unit and replace it with a best in class Lennox split heat pump system. Huft was committed to completing the job in a timely manner and staffed a three man crew to get the work done in less than a day and a half. Not only did they send three installation technicians out, Brian Huft, the owner, also came out and worked with his crew on my project. The jobsite was left clean, the crew was polite and most importantly I have a new system that is twice as Efficient as my old one and I can barely hear it running. If you are considering replacing your HVAC large or small, Huft will be your Hero!

I had an outstanding experience with everyone ranging from office personnel, general manager, to field personnel. I would heartily recommend this company.

I called a repair man on Friday because the AC was broken. It didn't go very well. First he told me he couldn't repair the AC unit because it was too old and the parts were no longer made for it.Then said we had to buy a new one and he showed us 5 of them from 10k to 17k. When is said he had all sorts of financing if we didn't have cash. I said we have cash and we will buy another fan with it .The story changed. Now by some miracle he would be able to repair our broken AC.He list about half doz things that were wrong with it.I think we looked like easy targets. He said fixing it would be a waste of $$ and only last for 1 -2yrs and would cost 2500.00?. I said we need to give this more thought. Then he said he could fix it for 1000.00.He said OK which do you want me to do. I said we want talk about this and give it allot of thought and get back to you. We decided to call someone else. They came today. They replaced a fuse and contact and the cost was 105.00 the AC is working just fine.

Good afternoon MaryAnn,
I would like to take a moment thank you for returning my call in regards to this matter. I appreciate you letting me know I may have a problem and promise it will be dealt with immediately. We do not consider any of our customers "targets" and are not in business to take advantage of people. We work very hard at having a trust worthy reputation and want to keep our customers for life. I would like to apologize for the experience you had with our technician and will be refunding the service fee you paid.

Shun and Chuc arrived promptly at the beginning of our appointment window, and also called ahead of time to let me know when they would be arriving. They took care to keep the home clean and were cautious with their equipment. Their service was very prompt and they provided very thorough and knowledgeable explanations of what they did, and what concerns my system had. I am very satisfied with the quality of their service and would use them again.

Thank you for your kind review, we appreciate you taking the time to let everyone know what your experience was like with our company and hope to have you as a customer for life!

Alex is a very knowledgeable and experienced senior technician. He took the time necessary to fully inspect and evaluate the H&A system of our recently purchased home, to determine that the system, while operational, needed some equipment updating and maintenance to operate efficiently in both heating and air conditioning modes. He put together a plan with agreeable pricing.
