The stars are for the convenience and price. The setting up of classes and required courses was not explained well and was quite frankly a waste of time. Such a regret and will not recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful school. Helped my daughter every step of the way. Always very responsive to questions. Definitely care about their students. Lori is great.

Thank you for the kind keed back Amy. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.

I am very pleased with the wonderful self paced program at Excel High School. My daughter was in recovery the past year from a serious illness, and she had to work at her own pace over an extended period of time. The staff went above and beyond to meet her educational needs with kindness and compassion. We will be ever grateful to Excel High School for their support during a really difficult period. I highly recommend this school, as a wonderful self paced, flexible program to meet the specific needs of students, who are unable to attend school or are self driven and want to learn independently from home.

(Your a STAR?)

So, I enrolled a few months ago. I started the adult program $99/monthly. In real life I had made it to 11th grade and have partial credits for that. Upon enrollment they gave me 6 classes, physical science, public speaking, Math, US government, health and fitness and music appreciation which was more like theory. This was all done before they even received my transcripts. When they go my transcripts they added 5 more classes. And they promote “at your own pace”. Anyways that’s 11 full courses. I have a job and family(kids). And I wasn’t looking for an easy way out. But that is a lot of work. At my pace, 3 hours a day, it would take me a year or so to finish all the classes. That’s a lot of money to them. Anyways I opted out and cut my losses. I suppose I’ll find a GED program. And! I hate music theory. It’s not my thing. Good luck!

Mr. H,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Excel High School is a state-recognized, accredited high school and we follow State Department of Education graduation standards. Students do not have the option of circumventing the prescribed curriculum and required credits. Regardless of age, students must complete the courses/credits required to graduate. You were enrolled only a very short time and you decided to give up, because in your own words, “you are busy and you hated your music class”. Thousands of students successfully complete the Excel program each year. We feel your review is unfair and subjective. We know online school is not for everyone, but just because your experience did not work for your situation, doesn’t mean Excel is a sub-standard school. Excel has hundreds of 5-star reviews. With that said, we disagree with your analysis. When you cancelled, you stated you are age *** and school is too hard for you. The GED will be equally as challenging to meet standards. We wish you all the best.

Customer Response • Mar 24, 2020

Did you even read my review? I don’t see how you can just dole out 6 course without seeing my transcripts first! That! Is not right! I understand there are requirements. But how would you know what I was lacking without any records? And I think your response is rather defensive. I wasn’t bashing your school. I just think it’s not for me. And I can’t afford it. And music appreciation is fine but theory is different!!!! Take the course and you will see there is a line that is crossed in the curriculum. And a GED isn’t easy. And like I said, I’m not looking for an easy way out, just a fair one. So, there ya go. And! When I called in to cancel I didn’t say it was too hard. I actually enjoyed the classes. I cancelled because the amount of work you gave me ,without seeing my transcripts, would take a year to complete with my schedule. And I can’t afford to pay that.

Keith,
As per accreditation standards, transfer students must complete a minimum of 6 courses. That is how we know what initial 6-courses you need. We placed you in required initial courses to get you started, so you could graduate.
This is clearly posted on the website and in the school catalog. See: https://www.excelhighschool.com/courses.php
As a State recognized accredited high school, students pursuing a high school diploma from EHS must complete a minimum of 25% of the total credits from Excel High School to earn an accredited diploma. Regionally accredited High Schools can transfer in 75% of previous credits toward graduation. *Excel High School issues the very same accredited high school diploma that students receive from the local public high school. This includes a minimum of the following credits; 1-English, 1-math, 1-science, 1-social studies, and 2-elective credits.
"The amount" of work you were assigned is the same amount of coursework assigned to all diploma seeking students. Credit requirements are mandated by the State DOE. We did not assign you unreasonable courses. You chose Excel High School because we are accredited. As an accredited institution, we must follow standards regardless of your feelings.
Sincerely,
EHS Student Support

All adults are required to complete the initial set of courses, which is what we assigned to you. This is done so you can get started in the online courses and progress toward high school graduation. This was explained during orientation. We only require the minimum amount of work for you to meet State Department of Education Standards, so we can issue your diploma. We have thousands of satisfied students each year. Please call the school for further clarification.

+1

My daughter started in December 2019 and she has loved it ever since. I love it. I actually work for a company that offers online curriculum I can use for free and I don't. I would rather pay for top notch curriculum this school offers and I love the school. My daughter struggled learning before I sign her up at Excel and the teachers break things so efficiently that she is retaining all the info she learns. She is in 6th right now and she will graduate from this school because we are not leaving.

My children have been attending Excel for the past 2 years and it has been amazing. They are thriving in Honors courses and very happy with the selection of electives that you can not get in a brick and mortar school. The staff is always so helpful too.

Excellent customer service. Easy to sign up. User-friendly interface.

Excel High School Response • Feb 19, 2020

Thank you for the kind words and thank you for choosing Excel High School.

Excel is limited on classes they accept for credit transfer. While you may be on track in your state they will say they don’t accept the classes you took and force you take more classes to catch up so your tuition is not what they advertise.
Despite listing each class with a weight for quizzes, papers, and an exam it is not correct. It is actually a complete lie. If you pass the exam you pass the class, if you fail the exam you fail the class. All the work you did on the quizzes and papers were pointless. You can have an A all the way through but mess up the exam. In regular school it would even out, not at excel. At excel you fail the class.
There are no books or lectures, but you have to keep notes so you have to cobble them together from the quizzes. They are notorious for having one line about a person and then having 3-4 exam questions about them. When you challenge them on an incorrect exam questions they ignore you.
The platform is not easy to use for the math and science program. When we told them the platform for honors was better why would they have two different ones they pretty much told us to just pay more and we could have the better platform for our non honors classes.
A good program would have an intuitive program for all classes not just honors.
I have never met a more combative assistant director as I did in Tim. I pointed out how he was constantly contradicting himself in his own emails to us but his only was too bad, I make the rules.

Excel High School Response • Feb 09, 2020

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. According to State DOE and accreditation standards, Excel can accept up to 75% of standard transfer credits toward high school graduation. This applies to all accredited public and non-public schools, so this policy is not exclusive to Excel High School.
Students are required to complete courses with a passing score, including the final exam. The proctored final exam is the benchmark for subject mastery. Passing is 60% or higher. When a student scores 33% on a final exam mastery has not been achieved and we cannot issue credit. The goal of Excel is to ensure our students are learning. Excel does have academic support readily available. I see extensive notes in your file from admissions and counseling, but I do not see you reached out to our tutoring department for assistance. Many standard courses do have video lectures, and all honors courses are 100% video lecture-based, so your statement is factually incorrect.
We explain to all students/parents the honors track is a separate curriculum and involves additional licensing fees – still very affordable. All pricing is clearly listed on the school website and in the enrollment agreement. I am sorry to hear you had difficulty navigating math and science courses, but I am excited to share Excel has launched all-new math/science courses in 2020. We do not anticipate you would experience any further issues with math or science courses. I am sorry you felt Mr. E was combative and we do welcome you to call Excel’s vice president, Ms. Lori A to discuss your child’s enrollment. We want nothing but the best for Serena and I am sure we can work together to help Serena successfully complete 9th grade. I sincerely feel we can resolve any misunderstandings and help your child be successful. We welcome your call and look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Rod C, MBA, Ed.S.

First off, my daughter that so aptly named in a public forum is in 10th- not 9th. An English class in Virginia was marked as elective despite calling and sending the curriculum simply because you deemed it so.
As for notes as I explained to Tim- she was told to take as many notes as possible and to use an the electronic system provide but word as a back up, which she did. But the proctor system does not allowed windows so the notes were useless. When I called about this and asked what should LSU’s do- they said print them- I said she has over 200 pages- I was told she had to taken too many notes and she need to revise them to less. Really? That is your answer. So no books- no notes- but exams are suppose to open note but not so much if you actually take full notes. As for the videos you quote they are useless for someone that is hearing impaired.
The weighted system for grades is pointless to even post as explained- an A was held but pointless since the exam had to be taken without notes so resulted in a no pass and now results in a 2 month delay despite having already completed all the quizzes again in less that 3 days. So- nope nothing resolved- and no Tim never responded to incorrect exam questions answers.

Excel High School follows State standards. We have a staff of success coaches available to help. Please call the school for more information.

I ABSOLUTELY would recommend Excel High School to any family looking for a complete, quality educational experience for their children and/or themselves! My son was struggling in public school and, to make matters even more stressful, having to deal with the increasingly challenging restrictions put on the students and teachers from the State Testing Requirements. So halfway through my son's Junior year, I searched out a school that would give him a quality education, while not adding unnecessary pressure to finish his high school education, and allowing him to securely learn at his own pace. That, and more, is precisely what Excel High gave my son once admitted into their Honors Diploma High School program. And, as a parent, I truly received "Top Star" customer service, assistance and support from Excel High; particularly from the wonderfully competent Lori Applegate! My son, our family and I are now a proud Alumni Excel High family and will forever be proud of that! THANK YOU EXCEL HIGH AND LORI!!!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Excel High School. We wish you all the best and stay in touch!

My son, a high school senior, has been taking full course classes with Northgate during his summer, and will continue on with two during his regular school year to reduce pressure, anxiety, stress in his school day at brick and mortar. He can discontinue brick and mortar and stay in Northgate Academy/Excel fulltime without any trouble also. He was able to whiz through his math course and one elective in a matter of weeks at times that worked for him. I wish we had been aware of Northgate all along for full time use. He would have been graduated a year early. We are advocating with his private high school to partner with Northgate/Excel to bring their advantages to all students. The ability to reach someone right away has been great. If your child says his courses aren't downloaded, he's probably right, follow up with the school they will correct the problem.

Thanks for the review, Katie. We are glad you chose Excel High School.

As a student, I can personally say that even high school students can benefit immensely bu enrolling with Excel High School, the challenge is still evident throughout courses and the curriculum adheres to state-specific standards. The full access that the diploma grants you, the same access as a traditional brick-and-mortar high school, is virtually unheard of outside of Excel. Specifically, Lori A is a tremendous aide throughout your high school experience, helping evert student with their problems and listening to and assisting the students along the way. Never have had a better schooling experience and Excel is most definitely the greatest in the field of online education. 10/10. Nothing less.

Great school! We are international travelers due to work requirements and this has been perfect for my daughter. Ms. A always went above and beyond in helping us to get her enrolled and sign up for her classes each semester.

This school tells everyone that they are accredited Nationally and in every state, but they are not recognized in the state of Texas. Their website says they have a money back guarantee if a college won't accept their diploma, but they are refusing to refund the money. They told us they knew about a problem with the diplomas prior to 2012 and offered to let student retake the program now, but it doesn't matter because the school is still not recognized in Texas, and who has time to spend another year on another program? This place misleads students. There are only certain states where they are accredited and this comes from their own website:
Scope of recognition: the accreditation and preaccreditation ("Candidacy status") of schools offering non-degree, postsecondary education in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and in the Navajo Nation.
Title IV Note: Only those vocational/technical schools accredited by this agency that offer non-degree, postsecondary education may use that accreditation to establish eligibility to participate in Title IV programs.
Title IV programs are FAFSA!
Beware of using this school for your High School diploma.

I have 2 children who use Excel High School and just started in Fall of 2018. They find the work challenging but manageable. The platform is easy to manage and the video lectures are targeted to the objectives. They have always been good students but find the on-line experience much more enjoyable and feel that they are learning more than in a brick and mortar school. Additionally, when we need assistance with school work or with office needs, they respond in less than 24 hours. The support team makes the process smooth. As a former educator, I highly recommend this on-line learning system.
