My parents bought a Chesma home in 2016. The house had a very good value. It had other features that are considered upgrades to other builder such as: widen and self-closed draws, included refrigerator, dryer and washer. The house has some minor issues. However, they have always responded promptly and resolved them. Before the one year warranty expired, we had the inspector checked the house and sent the builder the report to repair. The builder sent a superintendent working with us. He went through the list and informed us when to expect contractors to showed up. He was very happy and polite. Overall, we had a good experience from closing until warranty.

We had a very negative and unprofessional experience with Chesmar. They delayed our closing three times due to the home not being finished. Even when we moved into the home the floors had a complete haze over the tile, the grout was filthy, overspray on most of the cabinets in the home. Most of the doors throughout the home didn't latch when you trying to close them and still don't . Within the first month of moving into the home we noticed a water leak on the left side of the home just stag water sitting there . we put in a ticket for maintenance through the builder the irrigation people came out said that nothing was wrong with the irrigation system and turned off the main valve for the irrigation system. He said someone should've told that your irrigation system has a main master valve and it always needs to be turned off. I feel that Chesmar has dropped the ball on many things on this homebuying experience. Since moving in in May 2017 we have had the plumbers come out because we continuously to this day smell gas coming from the bottom of our top range we had GE come out to replace a fan from our oven because from the move-in date the oven never worked because of Jen had a defect. While GE was out here installing the new fan they had to remove the oven out of the wall while doing so they scratch the cabinets. We had to put in another ticket for that incident. So moving into this home we had no oven, the gas from the stove top range leaks gas, water still leaking from the left side of the house cause a 278-300 dollar water bill each month. Yes we put tickets in for everything plumbers maintenance people come out but the issue still come back up either a week later or a couple of days later Chesmar has still not fully fixed each of the problems. When moving in we notice it's over 27 cracked tiles. I say that it's a two car garage but you cannot fit two cars in your garage that was another lie. They told us that we are giving an oversize lot showed is the dimension showed us how the Home sit on the property we asked for a long driveway that was one of our biggest request we did not get that. Overall it's been a horrible experience working with Chesmar from the saleswoman Martha *** and the construction manager Aaron ***. These two representatives of chesmar made it an unpleasant and very unprofessional experience I've never been talked down to and miss treated or missed spoken to in a way that they have talk to me and my husband . I would not recommend buying a Chesmar home to anyone .

Love our home we bought in Harper's Preserve just not happy with the customer service after the sale. Sent an email to Scott ***, Don ***, and Donna *** about how unhappy we were with the customer service after the sale and they had Steve *** also with Chesmar Homes contact me. He was of absolutely no help at all. I did write management again to let them know and will post what and if they comment back to me. Our personal experience - and I am only speaking for my husband and myself - has not been a favorable one. From my experience - and only that, I can say that if you have to close with Chad out of the Houston office be ready for someone who is not prepared, not on schedule, and offers absolutely no customer service. For Chesmar to say on their web page the following and I quote: "To each of our homeowners, WE PROMISE to treat you as a member of our family and to: Provide a pleasurable buying experience. Build a home of great quality and value. Provide exceptional post closing customer care. Treat everyone with dignity and respect." To this I would say they lie - at least they did and continue to do so with us.

I purchased my home less then a year ago so I still have the one year warranty in affect. I had another inspection done before the year was over so I could make sure we are covered for the rest of the time in the home. We submitted everything to the "manager" Randy and so far the only thing that has been done was part of the painting, they did some work but then left splotches on my windowsill, this was supposed to have been remedied and has not. The AC unit has not worked properly since the day we have moved in, the two bedrooms that my two toddlers sleep in does not have air or heat that blows in their rooms so it is either hot all of the time or cold in the winter, not great for a baby that was less then a year old. The AC company has made three appointments to show to our home and either doesn't show or comes at 8 at night only to tell us it's too late in the evening for him to do anything. Last time he was here he said the whole system needed to be balanced and someone would have to come out no later then 12 in the afternoon to be able to complete a job like that. Still no one has showed up, after my husband has taken off work three different times to meet him. The chesmar manager has no clue on what is going on and I feel like this should be his job to get someone here to take care of these issues. We have a warranty where all of this work is supposed to be covered yet they are doing nothing to take care of the issues.

We bought the Liberty floor plan in ***. I could not be happier with the floor plan and the customer service we received. Todd with Chesmar took care of us putting together our home and when it was complete the contractor Steve handled the rest. Out of all of the research we did in building Chesmar nailed it on the head with price, functionality, and customer service.

Chesmar Homes Response

Welcome to the Chesmar Homes Family of homeowners!

I moved into my house *** in ***. Since day one my floor started to have splinters and was easily dent. I complaint right away and representatives from the floor installers and *** (floor company) came to visit. Not once a representative of Chesmar was present for any of those visits. Recently after I moved into my house I spoke with a neighbor about my issue and he told me that when he picked his floors a person working at the model home as a designer talked them out of ordering my floors because the floors were having some issues. I asked from day one why this floors were so weak and I had yet to get an answer. Around 8 months after I moved in and after continued inquires and visits from *** reps they decided to send a third party inspector.

My biggest frustration is that I had issues with the floor from day 1. My concern was that the wood floor was weak, it proved to be right with time. Is easy to say that dogs nails, neglect by owner etc. 8 months after we moved in by sending a 3rd party. The question of the strength of the wood has never been answered. I spend almost 500000 dollars in this house and I’m not happy with the floor. I have yet to see anyone from Chesmar to come in and look at the floor themselves. Of course *** s going to protect their merchandise. *** told us that usually before they install their floors a briefing is given to the owners on what you should know about wood floors, but that Chesmar doesn’t do that. If I had that briefing I would probably opt out from wood floor. I was also told that these floor would probably be best to not offer them because they were having issues with. The third party inspector gave me a sheet on how floors should be taken care, this was never provided to me before. The sheet was from *** iNC and we should have received it before closing.

A third party inspector also indicated elevated moisture was found. Is that the cause of the weak floors? I asked to Chesmar to tell me how an inspection can be done to determine that the foundation doesn’t have excessive moisture. I remember that when the floor was to be installed the installer delayed due to high moisture on the floors. I had yet to get an answer on this. The only thing we were told before we move was to use Bona for hardwoods to clean the floor in order to avoid voiding the warranty; we haven’t use anything other than that. There is no reason for our floors to have high humidity unless is coming from the foundation. How can we test the subfloors humidity? Where are the paperwork from the installer when the floor was done?

The third party inspector came into the house and the first thing he said was that he was not here to answer questions. Then he asked what do we use to clean the floor and my wife said the Bona and showed to him. The findings are listed as neglect due to not using dolly, moving heavy objects. Shoe hills, dog etc. How can he tell this? I requested that someone from Chesmar to come to my house and discuss this, they haven’t. All the inspections done were done without a Chesmar rep here. . I also received a paper from *** iNC that we should have received when we chose the floor.

In response to the customer’s August 22, 2017 emailed complaint, a Chesmar Homes’ representative accompanied a *** representative to inspect the wood flooring concerns at ***.

During the inspection, it was noted that the issues of concern were caused by the customer’s dog as well as various homeowner related damages. *** set up a flooring inspection within their company and as a result offered to replace 29 boards free of charge.

The customer refused the repair, and insisted that a third party flooring inspection be conducted. ***e, inc., a third party flooring inspector, conducted an inspection and concluded the damaged flooring was due to customer abuse (100%).

When the customer received the inspection report results, he again demanded something be done to resolve the damaged flooring issue. Chesmar Homes and *** offered the original resolution, of replacing 29 boards. The customer again refused and filed this complaint.

In accordance with the stated warranty, wood flooring damage caused by the homeowner or a pet are not warrantable issues. The offered resolution was denied by the homeowner, and Chesmar Homes has closed the warranty ticket on the complaint.

Chesmar Homes Response

Chesmar Homes has some of the highest standards in the homebuilding industry and is known for taking care of Chesmar customers. We are very sorry that Mr. is not happy with his floor. A Chesmar representative examined the floor. The installer, *** sent a representative to look at the floor, and an independent inspector examined the floor. All three came to the same conclusion regarding the dents in the floor. There was nothing wrong with the floor and the damages were most probably caused by the homeowner’s dog. Moisture levels could never have anything to do with the type of damage caused to the floor.

The wood flooring is San Marino brand, manufactured by *** of which *** has installed 486,089 Square Feet, in the past 12 month period, in the state of Texas. Both the manufacturer and installer are highly respected companies, producing and installing thousands of floors each year. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is equally high.

We understand that Mr. is not happy with the conclusion reached by Chesmar Homes, *** and the independent inspector. While the associates of Chesmar Homes would much rather have Mr.t happy with his home and with Chesmar, we don’t believe that replacing the floor is the right thing to do. It’s like asking a car dealer to fix a car that was damaged by hail or accident. Mr.t has the option to use the mediation service Chesmar provides as part of the 2-10 Warranty program. He has been supplied with the contact information by Mr. Jeff ***, Chesmar’s Customer Service Manager.

Customer Response

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint

The reason I still do not accept this response is because I raised the issue since day one. As I noted in the original complaint the first person who came to my house made a dent with the finger nails. I questioned the strength of the floor and how easy could. E damage. The question was a swred by sending an inspector every other month until the conclusion reached a neglect on my part. I have a daschind that stays most of the day outside and weights 7 pound and another one that weights about 12. How is possible that a dog tha size puts dent on the floor and I be neglect. They also mentioned shoe hills. I have to tell people to take the shoes off before they enter my home? The humidity does have something to do according to research if it was installed under heavy humidity the floor could be soft. I'm asking to see the paperwork for the floors and humidity levels while it was installed I still yet to receive them. I saw floor replacements taking place in the model home who has the same floor I do. A designer paid the the home seller talked a neighbor out of ordering that floor because of trouble they were having. I still stand by that Chesmar didn't send a representative to any of the inspections.

The sheet to take care the floors was never given to me until the third party inspection. if I have to stay with this floors can at least I get replacement for the ones that need to be replace regardless of the amount and start from scratch? If I can't get the humidity levels of the floor at installation give me the reason why not? I asked also for an engineer inspection to ensure that the foundation is not the one creating the humidity what is the answer to that?

I believe that my house was built to great standards but the floor was not of great quality. I want to know why. Is it the humidity of the floor quality I don't think that's much to ask. I know and my conscious is clear that my God knows I'm not doing this is an effort to do wrong to the company. I really believe if I was completely and honestly being brief on how the wood floors supposed to be taking care and the possibilities I would probably taken a different route.

Regards,

*** a sad customer

We made the unfortunate mistake of purchasing a Chesmar spec home. Our roof leeks the kitchen and bath faucets are failing. Overall this house is ***. Please don't listen to the ***. Built by people that don't care. Shame on me for buying into the hype, my dad could build a house this is more like a child's fort.
