I booked a Spring Break trip with Cheap Caribbean and was supposed to leave this coming week. When I called asking how to handle the trip, with state lockdowns and hotels closing for business, they asked if I wanted to cancel due to Covid. I asked if it that’s what I should do and inquired whether we would be refunded. The customer service agent put me on hold and when she returned she said our airline and hotel were offering no cancellation fees in light of the pandemic. (The hotels we were booked to visit have closed their doors and flights have been cancelled). I agreed to cancel since that’s what she said was our best bet, and asked when will I get a credit on my card. She said she noticed I had travel insurance and I should file a claim with them.

When I asked why I needed to make a claim that when Cheap Carribbean was being credited from the hotel and airline and since the business were closed, they weren’t even able to provide the goods and services that I booked, she couldn’t explain that but assured me that the insurance company would handle this appropriately because of the Covid outbreak.

When I called the insurance company, I was informed that canceling for Covid falls under canceling for “any reason” and there is a steep penalty, 25%, so going to the travel insurance would cost us $1,500, while Cheap Carribbean keeps our $5,500 because hotels are closed and issuing credits and airlines are waiving cancellation fees.

When I messaged Cheap Carribbean they simply say they have a “no refund policy”. This makes sense in normal times because of a customer cancels, they still have to pay the airline and hotel. But Cheap Caribbean is benefiting from airlines and hotels issuing them credits, but referring customers to their “no refund” policy when we ask for our money back. So essentially they are profiting off of this pandemic.

I think they figured out early on that they may have according to credit card debtors, they may have to credit people back if they are unable to deliver “goods and services” because hotels are closed and flights are cancelled. So when you call, they just tell you they will keep your money and you have to take a trip with them by the end of the year OR when they see you purchased trip insurgence, they encourage customers to cancel, and apply for those benefits so they can keep the money the hotels and airlines reimburse and not have to deal with us.

If this isn’t illegal (because they refer you to their “no refunds” policy), it’s incorrigible and taking advantage of people during a worldwide pandemic.

I am reporting this company and strongly advise that something is done. I purchased an all inclusive vacation to Costa Rica in early January 2020. I was to travel April 22-28 2020.Due to the COVID19 pandemic we are obviously unable to travel. Especially with Costa Rican borders closed. I called cheap Caribbean 3/28 to get a refund in my trip and they REFUSE to refund my $1200. They explained that I can only receive a credit to be used on future travel but it must be used by December 2020. How is this ethical? Due to my line of work I cannot just schedule a new vacation whenever I desire!! This is a pandemic in the world that is above my control!!! This website is a complete scam on innocent people and I want something done.

My friends and I booked a trip through cheap Caribbean to Montego Bay Jamaica in February 2020 before coronavirus was an issue in the US/Caribbean. As of 3/17 we have been trying to call and cancel and get a refund as no one can travel, Jamaica has closed their borders and the resort has been shut down. We have waiting on the phone for 6 hours to be hung up on, them the next day waited another 8 hours for several people to get extremely rude with us and tell us it is not their problem. I have been emailing them as well and they give very short answers not trying to find a solution other than we can have a credit through 12/31. We do not want a credit as 2 of 3 of us have lost our jobs/been furloughed due to corona virus and when the bans and quarantines are lifted we will not be able to take time off. I have read several reviews that they are doing this to multiple people and it is not ok.

We booked a paid in full vacation to Mexico with Cheap Caribbean.,on February 20th 2020. The Mexico border is closed for tourism so we cannot fly if we wanted to. We have called this business to get a refund but are on hold and nobody answers the phone. We have called 4 times holding 2-3 hours each time and our call is never answered. We emailed 2 times only to get a canned response back to call them. There is a website where other cons UK mers are experiencing the same as myself. We believe this company is trying to retain our money and not refund even though the border is closed. Please help in getting our money back!

The Company Cheap Caribbean travel agency is taking advantage of the Corona Virus epidemic and keeping people's money without providing the services. I purchased a vacation package for my family paid in full in the amount of $5,455.36. The vacation was paid in February 2020 and it was schedule for April 2020 to the Dominican Republic. Due to the epidemic that is happening with Covid19 I had to cancel the vacation my family and I are on mandatory quarantine. I reached out to Cheap Caribbean for 2 weeks trying to get a hold to an anyone. Finally after 2 weeks and waiting on the phone for hours, I got a hold to an agent who cancelled the vacation but indicated they won't refund me the money that I have the option to file a claim to the insurance I purchase and see if I can get a partial refund but that it is not guaranteed. I can't even believed this type of business practice is even allowed or legal. There has to be some sore of regulation or quality assurance that looks into this company. The services were not provided and this company is clearly keeping people's money, this is simple FRAUD. I have ran out of options and don't know what to do. I'm sure I'm not the only one going through this, some agency needs to get involve and help us the consumers since it appears this company is allowed to take people's money without providing the goods and services.

I am rejecting this response because:

I was informed as part of the procedure I had to file a claim with *** because I had purchase insurance on my trip. After I spoke with an agent of *** and they told me there was no guaranteed I was going to get my money back because I had just standard insurance. I have not hear anything from *** after I filed the claim and I keep checking online and there is no updates on my claim (see Attached). I had to cancelled my trip due to pandemic with Covid-19 which has already taken the lives of some members of my family. The services were never granted since the trip was cancelled and I had paid the vacation package in full. Since I have not received a response from *** and I have no idea if the funds will be returned I cannot accept the response from CheapCaribbean until this matter is revolved. Thanks,

We’re sorry for the delay in a response from *** due to current volume. In this case if the client is informed their insurance claim is denied by *** we can have a CheapCaribbean Future Credit issued for future travel with proof of the denial. At this time our portion remains the same.

This company refuses to provide a cash refund to anyone who is cancelling travel due to the COVID19 pandemic. They will do whatever it takes to keep our hard earned money in their pockets when people are out here having a hard time making ends meet due to lay offs etc. I had a trip booked with my friends to Mexico, due to the boarder closing, we are unable to fly into Mexico. The cancellation is due to circumstances outside of our hands and we should receive a full cash refund.

We had a trip scheduled for March 15th to Mexico and due to the outbreak of the corona virus we tried to cancel our trip. We made contact via phone on 3/10 who told us not to cancel until 3/12 because they might waive the airline fees after that date. The company became unreachable during this period; not answering the phone, not responding to emails. We tried to contact them on 3/12 through phone where we were put on hold until the call disconnected after 4 hrs. We called 2 times that day. That day we also sent numerous emails, one of which received a broad reply and then no further contact. On 3/13, we tried calling again 3 times, each of which we were on hold until the call disconnected after a few hours. Between 3/13 to 3/15 we sent numerous emails hoping to get a response through those. On 3/27, we got through on the phone and talked to an agent who only said that we would have to wait 2 to 3 more weeks to see if they could do anything for us although this issue was not our fault.

I am reaching out about my reservations.
My reservations numbers are *** for $1503.94 and *** for $ 2199.20.
The hotel I selected at the time I selected for travel is CLOSED. I want a refund on my credit card since the company can’t keep their part of the agreement.
The company is offering future credit with them . First I was told the hotel is not going to close for ever, then I am told well the airline doesn’t issue refunds, then no refunds are allowed per agreements.

I offered to take future credit for the cost of the airline but asked that the cost of the hotel be refunded to my credit card. I am getting no where.
I get the impact of the situation on travel. However if I am cancelling by choice I can understand the company position
I don’t have a choice. The resort I wanted at the time I wanted is closed, I am sure the hotel is not charging the company therefore the company should give me my money back on my credit card.
Help.

The response is not helpful on there position. They are mentioning the dispute I put with the credit card. Are they going to refund the money? I shared with the company confirmation from *** that they got the money on their credit card

The company is not responding to my inquiry on getting my money back.

if any they sent me an email saying I have a “credit with them for future use”

I booked my trip on May 2 2020, I also bought trip protection insurance. It is obvious that in current situation there is no way to go. I'm in high risk because of age (62) and health conditions, but they sent me only email with suggest to rebooking. Their phone line is always busy, even in the middle of the night. Is this legal to withhold my money in pandemic situation? Why trip protection does not work? I need a refund.

On March 13th I purchased an all inclusive trip to Cancun for April 3-6th. Due to my career in law enforcement I came into contact with individuals that had the Covid -19 virus. I tried calling Cheap Caribbean who I purchased the trip from on 3/15/20 to cancel the trip due to the circumstances. The website clearly stated that if you cancel within the first 74 hours of booking you can cancel without any issues. When I tried to call the wait time to speak to some one was over 5 hours and I was unable to reach anyone. I called again on 3/18/20 and spent 2 hours on hold before finally reaching someone. The representative state that it wasn't his problem that I could get ahold of anyone and no just past the 74 hour mark. He also stated that the enhanced travel protection insurance I purchased was through trip mate and not cheap caribbean. He stated that all he could do was offer me future credit. I told him to cancel my trip and I would call trip mate. I Spoke with trip mate who informed me that the enhanced travel insurance was through cheap caribbean and I needed to file a claim through them. So again I had to call Cheap caribbean and again wait 3 plus hours on hold. This company it trying to trick people out of their money and trying to just make people say the money isn't worth it with the ridiculous wait times. I purchased the enhanced travelers insurance incase something came up like this. I should not have to fight nail and tooth to get what is mine back.

CheapCaribbean.com, Incorporated Response • Apr 20, 2020

Per our records the client cancelled their reservation. Enhanced insurance purchased at the time of booking. Client received a refund in the amount $448.34 to their card on file.

We sincerely apologizes for any inconveniences they may have encountered. Our aim is always to provide the best service and we hope that they will give us another opportunity to prove this.

I had purchased a vacation package for 3/23/20-3/27/20. As I am asthmatic, I initially called to inquire about cancelling my reservation on 3/11/20. A very helpful agent recommended that I wait until 3/18/20 to call, as the airline we were traveling through was likely to update their cancellation policies and waive the cancellation fees for our plane tickets. I called back Monday, 3/15/20 to get more information and could not get a hold of an agent despite waiting on hold for hours. I then proceeded to call AND email everyday thereafter, from 3/15/20 through today, 3/22/20 (the DAY before my scheduled trip) to cancel. My only response has been a) one email from an agent stating that if I wanted to CHANGE my travel dates I should contact their customer service number (I received no response back after reminding them that I wanted to cancel- not change- my reservation), and b) automated email responses directing me to call their customer service line to make my cancellation. I have thus far spent over 20 accumulated hours on hold attempting to cancel my trip without success.

I am rejecting this response because:
Per the email communication documented in my initial claim, I was not initially advised to submit a claim to TripAdvisor until after I had submitted a claim to the Revdex.com, which is contrary to what the business’s response claims. At this time our position remains the same. No refund or compensation is being offered at this time.

During this process of finding what is happening with our vacation Cheap Caribbean pushes it on the airlines and hotels to resolve the issue. After calling hotel and airlines. Both state it is upon the 3rd party ( Cheap Caribbean ) to resolve.
I am requesting a full refund due to Cheap Caribbean not being able to fullfill a vacation I paid for in full. And get auto replied now that Aruba is CLOSED and they will cancel the trip and no need for me to call. I want my money returned in FULL. I was not in breach of cancelling on my end. They are not able to give me what I paid for and expect a return in the form is was paid for ( via credit card refund ) I do not want a future travel credit that does not work with my travel needs. I want a full refund since they can no longer offer what I agreed and paid for.

We had an all inclusive trip booked with airfare for April 11, 2020 - April 18, 2020. We paid for trip with air $1841.68, ground transportation to and from resort/airport $54.00, and Trip protection (travel insurance $142.18, totaling $2,037.86 USD. As you know, we are in the midst of this COVID19 outbreak. I contacted cheap Caribbean on March 19, 2020 to discuss cancelling my trip. I was told to call *** (travel insurance) and see if they would cover this as an insurance claim, and if they would not, they would let me cancel my trip and they would issue me a refund. I spoke with them (***) on March 20, 2020 and was told that COVID19 was not covered by insurance. I replied by email to cheap Caribbean to notify them of findings. I got a reply and said they would work on it next day. March 21, 2020 My trip was cancelled (rightfully so!!!) no one needs to be traveling out of the country at this time. I received an email notifying me of this cancellation, but received nothing about how payment would be refunded I asked cheap Caribbean via phone to refund the money in full to my original method of payment. Instead they offered me a future credit, minus the original cost of travel insurance ($142.18). $1,497.88 credit that I must use with cheap Caribbean by February 12, 2021. And $397.80 that I must use with the airline by December 31, 2020 This is wrong, and I should be refunded the full amount of $2,037.86 to my original method of payment (credit card)

My position remains the same.

I have tried to contact them over the last few days to cancel a $4000 trip that I can no longer take due to the current travel restrictions. I have also purchased travel insurance with the sam company. When calling their so called customer service I was placed on hold for 4 hours each time and then hung up on. I am one of many experiencing the same thing. If you call their regular booking line you get a very strange answer as if you just called a stranger not a business. I am afraid that this is some form of a scam that needs to be looked into quickly.

Per our review we have been in contact with the client as of 3/29/20. The client cancelled their reservation. The client also purchased insurance at the time of booking and will be filing a claim with *** Insurance company. We sincere apologizes for any inconveniences during this time and the extremely high call volume encountered. Our aim is always to provide the best service and we hope that they will give us another opportunity to prove this.

I booked a vacation to Dominican Republic for April 2020. However, due to the coronavirus, I have been trying to cancel my plans. I’ve been on hold for @6 1/2 hours with no one picking up in order to cancel my plans. I’ve sent an email to the reservations dept but am told I must contact them to cancel. Do you see my dilemma? How can I cancel when they don’t answer their phones? And, their policy requires that I must cancel in order to file a claim with trip mate.p in order to receive a refund. This is an absolute scam!!

I have been trying to contact this company to cancel my vacation for days and there has been no response. The wait times on hold are 4-7 hours and upon waiting for 4 hours it gets disconnected. I believe this company is trying to scam customers for their money to avoid tge process of cancelation in order for trips to end up fully paid and/or purposely missing cancelation deadlines. The State Department has issued a travel advisory no international travel. I need to cancel reservations and waive cancelation fees. This is absolutely unacceptable and something needs to be done.

I have trip planned for the Bahamas next week and I booked through Cheapcaribbean. I made sure to purchase the best insurance plan just in case anything happened. Well, of course, with the Coronavirus emergency, there have been travel bans in place that will not allow us to travel. I have continued to call their customer service line and have been on hold a total of 10 HOURS the last 2 days. I called all different times of days in hopes to reach someone, and NO ONE will answer. They clearly are avoiding all calls at this time. I understand that the Coronavirus has caused a lot of call volume, but this is unacceptable. I actually waited for 8 hours yesterday on hold, after they said their "wait time" was 170 minutes. I tried calling the insurance company and they told me I have to cancel with Cheapcaribbean first before they can file my claim. How can I cancel if I cannot get through to a real person? This is a SCAM! Please, never use this company. I refuse to get a "credit" with them because I NEVER want to work with them again.

I booked for vacation punta cana early jan. for March 30 They cancelled trip and cant get anyone to answer phone, 5 days straight over 15 hours on hold/hang up before answering. No one to say if I get my money back? What is the next steps? Very bad customer service, in this disaster times they should be calling me and explaining what I have to do for a refund, or credit. Very disappointed and they have a lot of my money. This is robbery will never do this again.
