Cassie Boorn is a professional scam artist who prey on small businesses. She has scam me in Dec 2019. I have reached out to her via email and F *** and she still has not responded.
What really weird is she sends me an update PR List via email Feb 1, 2020. I responded to the email regarding her not providing the service paid for and again me requesting a refund and never responded.
Stay clear of her and her so called services.
Took my 800 dollars and ran. Scam. Do not do business with this fraud
Unfortunately I had a similar experience with these other reviewers. It appeared that she put in an effort -- but I don't think she actually has the ability to do what she says. We wasted our money unfortunately.
Cassie is a CON ARTIST. Stay away from her business that preys on small business owners. She will take your money and run. She does not deliver on anything she promises. DO NOT WORK WITH HER.
We have unfortunately had a similar problem with Cassie Boorne as all of the other reviews and complaints. We wish we would have consulted Revdex.com before engaging Cassie Boorne.
She has opened a new shop called "Small Shop Collective," likely because her older shop had so many claims against it. We engaged Cassie for marketing services. She was to pitch our product to media outlets, and we were guaranteed two placements. After paying our initial $410 deposit (one half of the value of the services), we were to fill out a brand questionnaire before Cassie began work.
On June 27, 2019, prior to completing the brand questionnaire, our company was told that we would need to first develop our Fall marketing campaign prior to engaging a media representative. We informed Cassie that we would need a deposit refund and that we would contact her in the Fall once the Fall campaign was complete. On June 27, 2019, Cassie agreed that she would provide us with a refund that day. No refund was received. On June 28, 2019, we reached out to Cassie again to request a refund. We received no response to our email. On July 1, 2019, we emailed Cassie again requesting our refund. She became very angry accusing us of wasting her time and saying that she would refund our money on July 5, 2019. When asked why it would take a full week for a refund, she indicated that she had already spent the money. When no refund was received on July 5, 2019, we contacted Cassie on July 9, 2019 requesting a refund. Our email was ignored. On July 11, 2019, we emailed Cassie once more requesting a refund and indicating that we would file a credit card dispute and a dispute with the Revdex.com if we did not receive our refund by COB. We received no response.
We paid Cassie $360 in July 2018 for PR services. She was supposed to write copy for us and get media contacts together for us to reach out to based on forms we filled out for her. This was never delivered and we couldn't get a hold of her until April 9, 2019. She asked if we wanted a refund and now we cannot get in touch with her again. I've been in contact with other business that this has happened to.
Cassie reached out via email in September of 2018 to pitch me a marketing and PR campaign with a timeline of six weeks. After some email correspondence and then speaking with her on the phone I decided to hire her. I paid the invoice on 9/27/18 and signed the contract on 9/29/18. I completed a "brand questionnaire" on 10/3/18 and followed up with a few emails before hearing back from her on 10/9/18. I was told the press kit would be ready for review by Friday (10/12/18) and that the pitch would go out the following week. What ensued through the rest of October and most of November was frustrating - many emails I sent were not responded to in a timely fashion (or at all) and target dates were consistently missed by Cassie. The pitch finally went out (as far as I know) on November 26, 2018. I have not heard from her since that date.
On January 10, 2019 I emailed Cassie a request for a campaign status update and expressed my disappointment in our partnership. I included a spreadsheet outlining our communication with its many lapses and missed deadlines to make my point clear. The contract promised "a minimum of two media placements", of which I have received none. It is now January 22, 2019 and I have still not heard from Cassie despite sending numerous emails, Instagram messages, and even a text to her cell phone. You can imagine my confusion when I saw her most recent Instagram post (dated 1/21/19): "I’ve gotten to a weird place in my career where I can finally stop focusing on finding new clients, and really pour into the clients I already have." At this point I feel like I have been taken advantage of and am turning to the Revdex.com with hopes for a resolution.
If I could leave a 0 I would. I paid Cassie $400 to assist with PR over a 6 week period. She was unavailable for the first two weeks. Following that I was given a shoddy influencer list and absolutely NOTHING promised. Not even the intro questionnaire. This really makes me mad as a small business owner. I don't make much money and I really put time and thought into every dollar spent. I was hoping this may lead to greater brand awareness in the US, especially for the holidays. Don't make the same mistake I did in letting this fraud take your money. Shame on her.
I wish I could leave zero stars. Same as LC below. Cassie goes after small businesses she finds over social media and follows up aggressively when she wants you as a "customer". Once she signs you, she starts flaking on emails and does not follow through. She mocks up a pdf file for you but never confirms with you on who she has contacted as she just "disappears" and never replies to you again. At this point, the program is near the end.
People like Cassie need to be stopped. It is in this digital age where it is so easy to scam people and small business owners are being taken advantage of.
Cassie is a thief and a scam artist. We were contracted to do an 8 week program to secure 2-3 placements for $600. Fast forward 8 months later and I've seen nothing. She doesn't respond to emails. She sent me one shoddy ppt deck with copy and photos lifted from my website - it looked terrible. She doesn't respond to emails and did not secure any placements for our business and never communicated any of this. I saw no proof that she actually contacted anyone even though I requested to by copied on all the emails and to see all final materials. When I complained she offered a $300 refund and then never responded or sent it to me. What a terrible person. I don't know how you sleep at night.
Cassie Boorn is basically a scam artist. She knows how to target people, especially small business owners, artists, or students. Basically people who are eager to learn and grow their skills/businesses. She knows how to offer a small amount investment for your future, she sounds legit and nice. But she is not. She will start flaking. She will become less responsive to your calls, emails, whatever. She will eventually disappear and you realized it was waste of your money and time even it was a small amount of money. If you research her close enough, you find a lot of people like here complaining what a scam she is.
I was one of the victims, a small business owner who paid $300 for her to PR my company to reach influencers, bloggers, etc. She never came though and never paid my refund on her end. I did get my money back through PayPal with their refund policy.
BE AWARE PEOPLE, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!
This complaint is for another company that is separate from Modern Thrive.
I provided you with a complete list of influencer and media contacts, a custom email pitch, a press kit and a full refund. I am really surprised to see the review you posted on Yelp. While the partnership did not go as planned nothing about this was a scam.
Very poor service and does not follow through with what is promised and outlined in classes or products.
I was hired by *** of Modern Thrive, Makers Mentors to write class descriptions, marketing copy, come up with class ideas, student and teacher outreach, community management, teacher communications, pdfs, business strategies and more. After 3 months and no payment, I was owed over 2k, confronted Ms. about the fact that I had been consistently working for no pay. Her response was that she didn't know what to do because she owed several teachers from months back. She then cancelled any offer for future work (which was to be a possible full time job after 3-4 months of doubling the amount of workshops due to my help). Contract breach. She is currently 15 months overdue payment to me. No response to my invoices and communication. Promised to pay me to my lawyer but no action. She owes 1568.00.
Like another writer who posted here, I was hired to write copy for Modern Thrive in late 2016 and early 2017. When it became clear Ms. Boorn was not able to pay me for work done, I stopped working with her. I've invoiced and tried to contact her several times about payment. She has promised to make good on her outstanding invoice several times and reneged every time. There's an open letter to her from eight artists on ***.com stating they have not been paid, either, and I know of at least three more in the same situation; awaiting payment, with zero response to attempts to each her. This business takes money from writers, artists, and students and does not deliver content at times and she fails to pay more often than not. There are enough of us to give any potential student, artist, or copywriter serious pause. She took the money and ran; buyer and artist beware.
This review is from an employee of the company and not from an actual customer.
I was nervous about working with Modern Thrive after I paid for a portfolio review and then saw the comments here. But I just had the best phone call with Cassie, which wasn't even part of what I paid for, because she wanted to talk to me about my portfolio and give me some helpful advice. It was very helpful and inspiring and I look forward to working with her further
: )
Cassie Boorn and Modern Thrive are frauds. I did a workshop for them last year and she only paid a small percent of what she owed me claiming financial difficulties. She continued to respond to my emails saying payment would be coming next week or soon and they never came. Do not work with this person, do not buy her course, stay away!
This person was an employee of the company and not a customer.
Signed up for workshop---***--on March 24, 2017 for $48.50, which was subsequently cancelled. Emailed numerous times and finally got a response from *** on May 30 saying he would look into it. The next day he emailed and said he would have *** (the owner) put me on the refund list.
I followed up with an email a week later and *** responded saying he still had yet to hear of a set refund date. Still following up and no response.
It will be almost four months since I made this transaction and I have yet to be refunded. This is unacceptable for a professional online business and I would like my card to be credited asap.
I've taken several workshops through Modern Thrive over the last two years. The workshops have been great and Cassie is extremely responsive. If you subscribe to their newsletter, they'll send coupon codes for workshop discounts. I'm going through an on demand workshop now, Illustrating Children's Books. It cost me $47. The instructors put a lot into the class.
Based on my experiences with the company, I find the bad reviews here difficult to believe.
The artists hired by Modern Thrive have still not received payment as of may 26, 2017, almost three months after the courses they taught. the stream quality was bad. altogether unprofessional. I'd like my money back, but if they can't pay their artists, I can't imagine they still even have my money.
extremely unprofessional and fraudulent company. I payed modern thrive $97 for a web class back in March 17. they canceled the class and I still haven't received a refund after almost 3 months. they didn't bother to answer any of my emails regarding the refund until I filed a paypal dispute.. at which point I got an excuse about the owner Cassie Boorne being the only person who has the paypal password and they would urge her to send the refund promptly.... that was 2 weeks ago.
