Signed up for service in 2019 and was not aware it was a subscription. On July , 2020, was billed for another year of service. I contacted them the day of and requested cancellation and refund due to not having used the service since 2019. Would not grant refund.

Animoto Response • Aug 18, 2020

The customer initially reached out to us indicating that the subscription renewal payment was fraudulent and not something that was signed up for. A request for additional information was sent since the email we were contacted from is different than the account holder email. That request was unanswered, and a second email was sent from the account holder email on the same day. The second email received indicated that they did not want to renew their account because they do not use it and requested a refund. According to our refund policy, we are unable to refund unused subscriptions or portions of subscriptions. The auto renewal information and next scheduled payment is available for the user at all times. This date is given prior to checking out, on the purchase receipt, and is alway posted on the users account homepage. Users have the ability to turn off the auto renewal at any time prior to the next scheduled date. We did not receive any requests for cancellation prior to this and the auto renewal feature was not disabled until we were contacted on July *, 2020 which is why the account renewed as scheduled. We had offered to put the account on hold until the user was ready to use it, which was declined. We have since sent an offer to the customer to resolve this, but we have not heard back to that offer. Our team is happy to continue working on a resolution with the customer but ask that they please contact us to re-open their request.

Rip off. I canceled automatic subscription on date of renewal and was told I was too late. Animoto refused to credit me the renewal amount of $63.00. I will never use again and would not recommend to anyone else.

+1

Purchased a year subscription to Animoto's service in June 2019. Did not receive any notification that my account was to be auto-renewed on June , 2020. I have not used this service in months and do not plan to use it in the future. The only reason I even know about the renewal is an email from Paypal. Animoto never emailed me a notification of renewal or a receipt after they charged me. I reached out on June , 2020 to cancel the auto-renew, close my account, and request a full refund. Animoto replied saying they don't offer refunds and offered me a coupon to use their service in the future. This is an unacceptable way to do business and based on the other complaints here it seems to be a common scam they run on users.

Animoto Response • Jul 08, 2020

The subscription was originally purchased last year using a discount code that locks in the users current pricing through auto-renewal. This information was provided on the original receipt (attached). The next scheduled payment date is provided prior to completing any purchase and is always available to the user on their account homepage.

The user reached out to us on the day the renewal was processed and our team was able to make an exception to our policy since the user did not want to continue to use the account. A full refund was processed back to the user on June , 2020 and their subscription was cancelled. As a refund was already processed we are unable to provide additional compensation.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ***, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
Since purchase, I was not contacted by Animoto in any way to notify me of the pending renewal. Saying that the renewal date was visible on their site is not enough. Every other recurring payment I have ever done will email you a few days prior to remind you and allow for you to cancel before the payment is processed. I also never received a receipt or email from Animoto showing the renewal. I only found out about it because of an email from my Paypal account. I was able to finally get Animoto to give me a full refund, but only after three rounds of going back and forth with their customer service and them refusing to issue a refund. Interesting how once Revdex.com was mentioned they found an exception to their no refund policy.
Animoto is conducting their business in a predatory manner and is not giving the customer adequate notification of pending renewal. While I am thankful they finally issued a refund, I would like to see them make changes to ensure other customers are notified of renewals before the renewals are processed.

Sincerely

Having a run around with the Amimoto company. They billed me 31.88. I have never used their service. There is not a way to contact them on the site. They do not give refunds, is stated on their site. This company is very deceitful.
Never, have ever come across such a dishonest company.

The customer signed up for an annual subscription in May 2014 and did not disable the auto renewal at any time The account was utilized to create and produce videos that are confirmed to belong to the customer. All active subscriptions are able to be cancelled at any time from the users account page.

A different email address was used to create a second account for this user after the original account. The original account was unused but continued to be billed as the auto renewal was never disabled. When we were contacted in 2020 our team was able to search and find the old account to notify the user of the active subscription. The account usage was reviewed and we were able to go outside of our normal policy to issue a one time full refund back to the customer on the unused subscription.

Similar problem to what others have stated. I hate that I have to do this. I signed up for Animoto on June , 2019 for a one year subscription. I knew I would not need to renew as I was leaving my career in real estate but wanted to develop a video for my last listing. I never logged in again to my account until June , 2020 because I was notified by email that I was charged another year (and it was more than the previous year). I quickly unsubscribed from my subscription, searched and searched my email for any email I may have missed that notified me I was going to be charged...and I had zero. I had emails from Animoto but none that stated I was going to be charged for a renewal, or that my subscription was on an auto renewal plan. I emailed Animoto hoping they'd solve the problem, and all I got was an email back from Sallianne that they could offer me a credit code if I don't need my account at the moment. I am beyond shocked and slightly panicking. I already paid well over $300 for the one video I did (yes totally my fault for paying that much) but I know I did not sign up for a renewal because I knew I was on my last listing. I am not one to blast negatives about a business, but this one just seems like poor customer service. Not one notification (ever) but within 30-60-90 days saying I am about to be charged when they know I am not even using their services. Then lets add on my stress with my current situation with COVID and it is just unbelievable they are unwilling to refund my money.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.
I was able to finally resolve the refund with Animoto outside of Revdex.com.

Sincerely

I signed up for their program in 06/2015, I unsubscribed in 02/2018 after I lost my job and I didn’t need their services but they charged me $96 on June//2018, they apparently have not contact number to reach and resolve your issue, They charged me again $96 on June /2019 even though I requested to cancel my services and again I went and unsubscribed. Today I found out that they have charged me again for $102. I DID CANCEL THIS SUBSCRIPTION more than two YEARS ago in February 2018 when I LOST my job. My account hasn’t been used since 09/2017. I would like a refund for a useless service. I never got the renewal notice it was inferred, this kind of slimy business practice is not ethical and commerce at its very worst.
Please resolve this issue ASAP.

Thank you

The subscription was originally purchased in 2015 and was billed on a monthly basis through 2017 when the user upgraded to an annual subscription. All Animoto subscriptions continue to renew until the auto renew is disabled to avoid a lapse in service. Users have the ability to disable their auto renewal at any time from their account billing page. We will always send confirmation of the account being cancelled and the user will be notified of the account expiry date.

This account was utilized to create a video in 2018, months after the auto renewal for the year had been processed. We did not receive a request for cancellation in 2018 or 2019. Since the account was unused in 2019, our team was able to go above and beyond our normal terms and conditions and issue a one time courtesy refund back to the customer for the full amount of the most recent 2020 renewal when the user reached out to us this year. We are unable to issue a refund on charges older than that, as they are too far out of policy and cannot be accessed to even offer an additional exception to our policy on.

Be warned, there is no notice of auto RENEWAL. I hadn't used the service in a year and it auto renewed with no warning. They refused to refund. I'm out of work due to coronavirus and they pulled $264 that I need. Very disappointed in this company.

This company has a website that you can unsubscribe from their services. I unsubscribed last April (or so I thought) but I didn’t remove my paypal address from my account. A year later they have charged me again for a service I do not want and when I contacted them stating that I do not use nor like their service and need them to refund the recent withdrawal from my account of $239.88 they told me I didn’t unsubscribe last year and they don’t give refunds.
First of all, what business renews accounts without sending a email reminder for people who have subscribed!? Secondly I DID CANCEL THIS SUBSCRIPTION in April 2019 when I disliked the format of editing they used. My account hasn’t been used since then.
And just good business is working with a client so your business doesn’t look like trash with poor customer services.

Here is the response email I received. “
Thank you for checking in with us on this. Ashley here with the billing team at Animoto. ???

After reviewing your account, I can see that the auto-renewal for your subscription was still turned on when the payment was scheduled to process. I wasn't able to find your earlier cancellation request, though. For next time, you can turn this off from the billing tab of your account page anytime prior to the renewal date.

We’re unable to refund your recent subscription renewal, but I’ve made sure that all future payments are cancelled so you will not be charged again. If you don’t need to use your plan at the moment, may I pause the account and issue you a code to redeem it a more convenient time? You’ll be able to use the code at anytime in the future, as it will not expire until redeemed.“

I do not want to use their service. I do not want a credit to future use. I would like a refund for a useless service.

This is bad business practices and bad ethics.

An annual subscription was purchased March , 2019 which auto-renewed on March , 2020. We did not receive notice of cancellation and the auto renewal feature was still enabled when the renewal was scheduled to process. The auto renew information is provided on the original receipt, and available on the account page at all times. Users have the ability to turn off auto-renewal at anytime prior to the next renewal date.

In an attempt to resolve, the customer reached out to us directly on March , 2020 requesting a full refund. On March , 2020 we offered a discounted offer if the customer would like to keep their subscription, which they declined. A full refund was then issued on March , 2020 back to the customer. This was resolved with a cancellation and full refund.

Upon signing up for Animoto a year ago, I was never asked or told about the auto-renewal of my subscription. I stopped using the service and received no communication from Animoto regarding my account. I just saw on my credit card statement that they'd auto-renewed my subscription without my permission and charged me $312 CAD. I've contacted the company 3 times via their online submission service with no response. I've since cancelled my subscription renewal but I would like this year's fee refunded as I cancelled shortly after the charge went through without my knowledge.

I wish Revdex.com had zero stars because that is how I’d rate Animoto.

They automatically charged me for another year, even though I sent emails stating that I didn’t want to automatically renew. Ever.

They said there was a way to opt out on their website. I searched and my computer scientist son searched and we never located this option. I asked their “security” rep to walk me through the “opt out of automatic renewal” process and he stopped returning my emails.
Then I was notified that they DELETED the account they just charged me for!
So I’ve paid for a service I didn’t ask for AND have been told I don’t have an account and cannot use it.

I’m never using Animoto again and I want my money refunded.

I have all email threads regarding this transaction saved and available for review.

I signed up for a yearly subscription with Animoto in 2015. The charge was 36.00 for the year. I did not realize at the time that it was an auto renewal system and that I had to hit a button for it to stop this feature. In 2016 they suddenly upgraded my account so that instead of a 36.00 yearly charge it went to 312.00. This was completely without my knowledge. Somehow I have missed this recurring and unethical charge on my credit card statements until today. They actually charged me twice in 2016. Once for 36.00 and then again the difference of 276.00. Aside from the sneaky way of auto renewing that most people don't know about, they upgraded my prescription. Fair enough that I missed the auto renew payment if they had continued to charge me 36.00 a year. The following is my statement on my account that I am copying and pasting.

Order history

I used Animoto to create 1 slideshow for a project I was working on. I wanted the best quality, so I got the professional account at $39 a month. Since I am only using it for 1 slideshow, I deselected the renewal option. 8 months later, I realized that Animoto was still charging me every month with total of $320.
I've emailed customer service but did not receive a response.

Our business tried to use the services offered by Animoto and we were offered a referral link to use for a 30 day trial which was the reason we gave this business a shot, after registering we found out that we were charged anyways for the services, so we tried to contact the business costumer service which has no phone number, after the email was sent we waited 2 days to get an answer, and the answer was stating that we would have to wait 7 business days to be able to talk to somebody to solve the issue.

This is a customer service and billing issue. I have tried repeatedly for three days and 25 emails to get them to call me about issues.
There is literally nothing but email even on their one number my credit card company found. They never actually answer you about your inquiry and I have asked about 25 time for them to pick up a phone and call me. NO RESPONSE. How can they operate this way. It is like they hide behind emails.
I am beyond frustrated and feel consumers need to know that if they sign up you will never be able to reach them or get a call by phone. Most numbers for them online are bogus and the one my credit card company and I found just says they email. they charged me $264.00 when I emailed the same day to say I can't get the product to work right and need help with a phone call. They refuse to call!

A year ago I paid for a year long subscription to use this service. I was unaware that it was going to automatically renew without any notice from the company. When the charge showed up on my credit card statement I contacted them informing that I did not want to renew their service as the features were useless. I only used their product less than a dozen times in the year. I wrote them and they have denied a refund. Today I received an email saying I can have a 50% refund. No, I want a full refund. I haven't created anything with their product and they should notify you it's going to renew after the year. I am disputing it now using my credit card company as I did not authorize this auto renewal it's a box that is automically checked when you initially sign up. These are fraudulent practices.

I have been charged $42 a month since June 2017 for a service that was free for one month. I have emailed the company on numerous occasions about their error and they have now suspended me from getting in touch with me . I’ve seen they have numerous complaints about the same issue and they too have been ignored .

I signed up for trial version in December 2016, tried couple days and closed it, never used again. Only now in 2019 I noticed they have been charging my credit card for 2 years $42.00 every month totaling $1050 for service im not using. They only allow contacting via email and seems like noone ever has resolved the issue (often just get blocked from account) only until credit card expires the recurring charges stop. This is absolute scam and I wonder how such company is allowed to exist

There is a monthly 5$ recurring charge showing up on my amex card, that I have previously tried to remove via complaining of fraudulent charges through AMEX. They have removed the charge 2 months out of the last 30 months. Each time they remove, the recurring charge continues to charge each month.
I have tried to cancel via iTunes, via subscriptions on iPhone (which shows that I have none), and have also called the number on the amex statement, which is a complete waste of time, as it refers you to their website, which is also impossible to cancel the monthly, as I don't have an account set up with Animoto. *** is that useless number.
I continue to get charged, 60$/yr, and have no way of stopping it. I have, for the third time, requested help from amex, filing again, that Animoto is charging my card fraudulently.

I must have created an a count with animoto about 3 years ago. I am a teacher and must have signed up for a paid plan. I don’t recall this being automatic renewal. I have not used this service in approximately 3 years. Somehow we neglected to notice the recurring charge of 19.99 each month. It is clear that there has been total inactivity for close to 3 years. All of these years add up to about $700. My complaint is that 1- I didn’t realize the bill was recurring year after year. 2- it is obvious that such is the case because I have not used the service in about 3 years, and certainly would have canceled had I realized that I was still getting charged. 3- I do not remember receiving any transactional emails from the company in over 3 years. I would like to be reimbursed a significant amount of the money paid over the past 3+ years. Thank you!

Last year I entered a trail period with Animoto Inc., an online video maker without indication or warning of any reoccurring charges. Since July *** 2017 I've been charge $42.00 a month for subscription/ membership fee for service never rendered to me. I have not used their service but they've proceeded to charge my credit card for a total of 16 months totaling to date, $672.00. I have made countless attempts to resolve issue with Merchant but have been unsuccessful. They have been rigid in their reasoning. They do not have a contact phone number thus it is difficult to effectively communicate with Merchant. The only form of communication they offer is via email.
