American Home Services Reviews (35)

Terrible. They sent out a plumber with my commercial water heater who wasn't licensed to do commercial install so they took the heater that I already paid for and returned it to the warehouse and will not deliver. I am stuck closing my business until I hire a new plumber and buy a new h2o heater...meanwhile, I am out over $2000!

Review: American Home Services installed a 20' x 30' concrete pad which I intended to park my vehicles on.

The work was completed in the spring of 2012 at a cost of $ 4500.00, which was paid in cash. I was told there was a 5 year warranty on the Labor.

Durring the late part of winter, 2014 one of the 6 sections of concrete raised one of the corners about 4 inches and caused another corner of that section to crack.

Many of the edges have areas of concrete which are breaking away, and surfaces have areas where the concrete is just popping off.

I feel this pad should have been done on 2 seperate days, as by the time they got to the last sections, the concrete had set, which is why the concrete is poping off, and cracking at the edges.

I sealed this concrete as instructed by the installer, Bo.

Phone calls to 'Tony' are answered, but he never does what he says he will. He was to have his concrete 'expert' come look at the work, but that never happened.

I sent a letter that gave them 2 week notice that I was going to file a claim, but never heard from him or any other representitive of American Home Services.Desired Settlement: I would like to have all cracked, chipped, or damaged concrete repaired, or replaced at the expense of American Home Services.

Response:

In this part of the country, no one can guarantee concrete. We have called the concrete company, to see if it was possiblya bad batch, that caused it to lift, because we have not seenthat before. There are many variables beyond our control. Some examples:expansion and contraction, exposure to moisture, water andfreezing, deterioration of gravel or asphalt placed in front etc. There is a common adage regarding concrete that being, there aretwo guarantees with concrete: One is it will get hard and two itwill crack. The GFA STATES: Cracks in concrete walls and slabs are common aoccurrence. They appear in floors, driveways, structural beamsand walls. -Cracking cannot be preventedWe are sorry that happened. We will stop to look at it, to seewhat we can do. It may not be a permanent fix, but we'll do whatwe can to try and help out.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me, providing that it is looked at and repairs are made.

Review: We spent 30k on a three seasons room, concrete pad and vinyl face. The job started in june 2014 and finished sometime in September 2014. During the process of the job the workers threw cigarette butts and nails in the neighbors yard, so my neighbors called the company and asked them to stop. After the fence was finished, the "latch" to double door was held closed by a 3 inch bolt. I called American Home Services (AMS) and told him this was not acceptable, he stated "thats what the company gave him". They then left the back side of the chain link still up and put the vinyl fence in front so it was not visible. Fast forward to today april 2015, my other neighbor contacted me because there was large pile of concrete in the back end of her yard, and she asked me to remove it. I did, it was a wheel barrel and half of dug up concrete from the old chain link fence. I again contacted AMS x2 to come pick up the concrete, no response. After looking around my neighbors yard to make sure there was nothing else to needed to pick up, I realized they left several of the chain link posts cut off at the grass in the ground. I did not contact AMS again because I did not see the point, he is not answering my messages from the previous issues.Desired Settlement: I would like the concrete and poles removed from my neighbors yard.

In response to Mr. [redacted]’s letter of 04/21/2015. I was under theimpression the service had been done. I informed my foreman thereis still some debris that needs to be removed. someonefrom his crew will stop A.S.A.P. and remove the concrete andpoles stated in the letter.

Review: I purchased a home water filter system through AHS. I have made payments for two years ($110 per month). The last two payments made were a total of $360. A representative of the company contacted me regarding two additional payments (which would supposedly pay off my account in full, $1400 total).A few days later, the company contacted me and said my payment was late. Having already paid off the account (according to [redacted], account representative) I found out the $1400 I paid was not applied to my account and [redacted] is MIA.The company said she is no longer employed and said she may have done similar things with other accounts. The company did not offer to resolve the issue in any way and now I am faced with paying off my account (AGAIN) or facing penalties for not paying off my remaining balance.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed the $1400 that has been stolen from me.

They have earned their "F" rating with us. Bought a Sears appliance and installation. The installation was contracted out to this company.
Installation was scheduled 7 days prior to the installation. We were called at 8:30 AM on the day of installation to verify. We verified. We missed a call from them several hours later. The voicemail message stated that since we didn't have the appliance, they were cancelling the install. Actually, the appliance had been delivered several days ago.
They only have office hours 9-4, and apparently only have one phone line. It is next to impossible to get through to them, and they don't allow voice messages to be left.
We ended up having to call Sears, through whom we ordered the install, to get through to them. Now they can no longer come today, but have rescheduled for 4 days from now.
I certainly hope the person who comes to install has more expertise than the office staff.

Review: My hot water heater began leaking and I called [redacted] to purchase a new hot water heater. [redacted] contracted American Homes Services, Inc. (AHS) in [redacted], Va. to install a new hot water heater on June 13, 2013. I had hot water in every area of my home before AHS installed the new hot water heater. When the installation was completed, the technician informed me that there was no hot water coming from the sink in the basement bathroom. He told me that the faucet may need to be replaced or cleaned. I didn’t think that was such a big deal so I told him OK. In addition to there being no hot water in the sink downstairs, there was no hot water coming from in the bathtub upstairs. The technician told me that I needed to get a1 handle shower Diverter Delta Cartridge. By now, I’m beginning to feel that he was just guessing at what the problem may be. He told me to do those two things and that should take care of the problem.

I called [redacted] on June 15th to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and check to see what they could tell me regarding the problem with the lack of hot water in the basement bathroom and the bathtub upstairs. A technician from [redacted] came out on June 24th to check on the problem. He checked the hot water heater and said it looked OK, but he didn’t know why I wasn’t getting hot water in the two areas. He told me that the person that installed the hot water heater should come back because they may be able to give me a reason why this was happening. While the technician was here, he sent a note to [redacted] to send the technician that installed the hot water heater back. On that same day (6/24/13) the technician that installed the hot water heater came back and told me that he already told me what was causing the problem so I had to get those two things taken care of.

On June 27, 2013 I scheduled an appointment for [redacted] Services to come out to see if I they could find out what the problem was. [redacted] came out on July 1, 2013. The Plumber told me that the system was not properly flushed after the new hot water heater was installed and that the downstairs faucet needed a new shut off valve due to debris. He installed an Angle Stop/Valve to the downstairs sink and charged me $225.78, however, there was still no hot water. He said there is a clog in the pipe. He said the upstairs shower diverter may be clogged or just the cartridge. The plumber of [redacted] suggested that I call American Home Services, Inc., the company that installed the hot water heater to see if they could help me with the cost.

I called American Home Services, Inc. on July 1st and spoke the owner/manager, [redacted]. I explained to him the situation and told him that I called another company ([redacted]) because I was at the boiling point. It was an inconvenience for my family and I and I had to find out why I was not getting hot water in the two areas of my home, particularly since I had hot water in those two areas before his company installed the hot water heater. I told him that [redacted] said they have to backflow line to blow debris in the lines reversed. They also will have to install a single handle tub and shower faucet/diverter. At that time I had not received the estimate because [redacted] had to e-mail it to me. [redacted] told me that when I get the estimate from [redacted] to call him. He also told me he could get with someone he knew in [redacted] Maryland regarding the backflow.

On July 2, 2013 I called the owner/manager ([redacted]), of American Home Services, Inc. (company that installed the hot water heater) since he told me the day before to call him back to let him know the estimate. I told [redacted] the estimate, which is $225.78 to install the angle stop/valve, $760.00 to backflow 2 lines to blow debris in the lines reversed, and $745.81to install a single handle tub and shower faucet/diverter, a total of $1,731.59.

[redacted] told me that they do not do backflows and that the sediment and debris were already in the pipes because of the age of the hot water heater. I don’t understand that because I had hot water in every area of my home before the installation of the new hot water heater. If sediment and debris were already in the pipes, why did the blockage occur only after the installation of the new hot water heater? I told [redacted] that you would think the installers would know that sediment and debris could be in the pipes and connecting the new water heater could possibly cause a blockage somewhere. The installers should have at least informed me of that possibility. Had they informed me of that possibility, I would have asked them what could be done about it if that happens. It could have been corrected in the beginning and I would not be going through this problem now. [redacted] told me that his installers are not plumbers, they only install. [redacted] said he was sorry for this problem, but there is nothing he can do.

On July 2, 2013 after talking to [redacted], I called [redacted] Resolution Department and spoke with [redacted] and on July 3, 2013, spoke with [redacted]. They were defending that the installers are not plumbers and would not have known the pipes could back up with debris/sediment. By now I am really frustrated and I needed the problem to be fixed so I called [redacted] and scheduled an appointment for them to come out and fix the problem.

On July 11, 2013, [redacted] ([redacted]) came to fix the blockage problem. When the shower valve was removed, paper towel was discovered trapped behind the valve. He said this is an indication that the installers used paper towel to stop water coming down during the installation of the hot water heater, then did not remove the paper towel before re-pressuring; installer’s error. [redacted] was able to fix the problem, however, he said there is a possibility that there will be paper towel trapped inside the new water heater and could shoot back into the plumbing system any time. The total cost of fixing the problem with the tub was $1,405.81.

Since both [redacted] and AHS refused to take responsibility and reimburse me what I paid [redacted] to fix the problem they created, I contacted the Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division in Baltimore Maryland on July 12, 2013 to see it they could assist me in resolving my complaint. I received a response from the Attorney General's Office July 19, 2013 informing me that they notified [redacted] Home Improvement Products of my complaint. They asked [redacted] to please review the materials and any records they had about the transaction and to contact the Office of the Attorney General so that a fair and equitable solution can be reached.

On September 17, 2013 I received a letter from the Office of the Attorney General with a response from [redacted] who informed them that the installation was performed by American Home Services, Inc. The manager of American Home Services, Inc., [redacted], provided a response to [redacted] regarding my complaint and [redacted] sent [redacted]'s response to the Office of the Attorney General. I received the response letter and was given two weeks from September 17, 2013 to respond if I felt American Home Services, Inc. did not satisfactorily address my complaint. I was told to explain my concerns and provide them with any additional information I wanted the Office of the Attorney General to consider in attempting to resolve the matter.

I responded to the Office of Attorney General on September 23, 2013 with additional information. As of November 12, 2013 I had not heard anything from the Office of the Attorney General so I called them to get a status on my complaint and the letter I sent on September 23, 2013. I was told by [redacted], Mediation Supervisor (###-###-####), that they have not heard anything from American Home Services Inc or [redacted]. She said they probably will not respond. I asked her where would I go from here because I would like to take my complaint further. [redacted] said she will send me some information on what my next steps can be. In the meantime, I went online and found the Revdex.com to voice my complaint there. I am trying to cover all bases because I want this resolved. I am willing to do whatever I have to do and go as far as I must.Desired Settlement: Since I had hot water in every area of my home before American Home Services, Inc. (AHS) installed the hot water heater, and the findings of [redacted] Services, ([redacted]), indicates installer’s error, either AHS or [redacted] or AHS and [redacted] should take responsibility and reimburse me what I paid [redacted] Services to fix the problem. The total cost to fix the problem was $1,731.59 which included $225.78 to install the angle stop/valve, $760.00 to backflow 2 lines to blow debris in the lines reversed, and $745.81 to install a single handle tub and shower faucet/diverter, a total of $1,731.59.

I thought I would get quality service from American Home Services, Inc., however, I did not get that. As far as this relates to [redacted], they contracted AHS and are somewhat responsible also. Both companies dropped the ball on this one. I am trying to cover all bases and I am willing to do whatever I have to do to get this resolved and go as far as I have to go.

Review: Company came as contractor to install cooktop appliance purchased from [redacted] on 7/24/Would not install the cooktop as they stated that the scheduled delivery time did not allow time for countertop adjustments/cuts to install the cooktopWas told I needed to reschedule and pay additional $They took my paid for cooktop with themI called [redacted] to rescheduleThey said that American Home Services could fit me in from - on 7/I spoke with American Home Services on 7/at am to confirm the stated delivery timeThey said I was on the scheduleNo one arrived during the scheduled windowI spoke with the company on Monday morningThey said I must have called another company because their computer did not show such conversationAdditionally, they said the number I called was not their companyI hung up, called the provided number and got the same service rep and said clearly I didn't call the wrong number because I was speaking with the same service representative againHe was rude, told me it wasn't their mistake and that the only time they could install was Thursday 7/At this point all I wanted was to be considered a priority and have an installation that fit into my schedule because I had already spent hours waiting for their company to install during CONFIRMED appointment timesDid not receive such priority but did receive accusations, rude comments and overall unprofessional customer serviceI would like to recommend that this company no longer be recommended for installationThey need training in customer service and professional scheduling services.Desired Settlement: Train your customer service representatives to acknowledge their customers' issue when speaking with them on the phone, take responsibility for their company's mistake even if they are not personally responsible, ask the customer how they would like the issue remedied, thank the customer for their patience!!

Review: American Home Service Systems did not install my oven on that date that was agreed at the time of purchase ..

I purchase an oven at [redacted] , [redacted] inform me that I had to purchase an installation package for the oven. They refer me to American Home Services Systems. I was informed they will be there the next day to install the oven . But when I didn't hear from American Home Service, I called them and they claim they could not install the oven until the next day . I inform them that I could not take off another day off from work , when we agree that it will be install on the same day the oven is delivered. What is the purpose having an oven in your house that you can't use ? I asked for a refund , they claim if would that up to two weeks for a refuse . The bottom line is they did not install the oven on that date that was agreed upon ..Desired Settlement: To install the oven on the date that I paid for this service .

This business engages in blatantly false advertising. Incredibly, they are Sears' provider for water heater installation services. On their Home Page and on their Contact Us page, "Free Estimates" are clearly stated and highlighted, and I was seeking a free estimate on a potential installation; however, when I called, I was told by two parties that they don't offer free estimates and that "this is wrong" and they didn't know why the information was posted as such. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was denied ("Really? She's not available right now."). Strong warning to avoid this suspect enterprise with false advertising and a lack of will to address/resolve the issue.

I purchased a replacement Dishwasher from Sears and American Home Services AHS was contracted to make the delivery, installation and haul-away of the existing unit. When they contacted me about delivery they gave me the date and time they would deliver without any options. Upon arrival the installer told me I needed to have a portion of my tile floor removed so that he could install the unit. Now I have to call AHS and reschedule another installation date, which was more than a week away. The new installers arrive and tell me that the unit would not fit in the space provided (despite the existing unit being the same size) and they refused to install the unit. They left the new unit in the box that was wet from the rain in the middle of my floor and left. I had to hire someone else to install the unit (although I had paid Sears for installation). When I called them to come back and pick up the old unit I was told to call Sears because they completed the order and it was closed. It took more than 3 requests from Sears to get someone to come out and retrieve the old unit which should have been picked up at the point the new unit was dropped off. AHS is the worst possible business for customer service and actually completing the job they have been paid to do. Their installers give different conflicting information to the customers. I would NOT recommend anyone do business with AHS.
