Once WOW opened back up after the pandemic, I called wanting to cancel my membership. Because I have been a member for over a year, my contract stipulates I can cancel at any time. I moved away during the pandemic, not to mention that I am not yet comfortable working out at a public gym. I called soon after they opened, and was told that my account would be frozen until I could quit via certified mail. I was charged for July anyway, and was told I would be reimbursed but was not. I then paid almost $10 to send a letter via certified mail cancelling my membership and my boyfriends membership. I received the delivery receipt. Two weeks later, we have both now been charged for August. I have not attended the gym since before the shutdown, and cannot get them to stop charging me.
I am trying to cancel my gym membership with this gym due to the ongoing pandemic I no longer feel it is safe to work out at this establishment even though gyms are allowed to reopen. This establishment won’t allow me to cancel my membership for this reason and is now forcing me to pay even though I have made my concerns clear to them many times. I feel that with everything going on I shouldn’t have to pay for something that is going to put me at high risk of contracting COVID 19 if I choose to go there.
We cancelled our membership in December 2019. We received confirmation as well as calling the business and being told that the membership was cancelled. We just received an email stating they *** for membership fees.
I cancelled my gym membership via certified mail in August (8/8), as required by the contract, and paid the two months afterwards. They received the letter on 8/10. I have been charged for the month of October, November and December as well as the yearly membership fee of $82. I have called WOW gym over 10 times asking for my account to be cancelled and a refund for the 3 months and the membership fee that was taken from my account. I have also gone down to the gym and was promised that my money would be refunded. My father also visited the gym and was promised an email proving that the account was cancelled and the refund was in progress. I have yet to receive any refund or email and have been mislead everytime. It has been over two months now. Every time I call the manager available says they will speak to the finance officer, but as of yesterday they have not spoken to them. When my father visited the gym, he asked to speak with the finance officer and they would not allow that.
This member submitted a dispute to her credit card company without ever communicating her concerns on the member email, ***, so the issue could be addressed. Once the credit card company is involved, we cannot be. It has to be resolved with her credit card company.
Thank you,
George

I am rejecting this response because:
After calling and visiting WOW I should not have to write an email to inform you of the situation because I informed multiple managers that assured me I would be receiving a refund. After waiting for a refund for October and November (never received) you then charged me for an additional month (December) so I disputed the charges. If all I needed to do was email the address you provided, one of the managers could have simply explained that. With the disputed charge from ***, you, the merchant, should have been contacted and need to respond. The dispute is in place for now (further action can be taken) and can be cancelled if WOW refunds me the 3 months and yearly fee as requested.
Sincerely
My wife and I have held WOW Gym memberships since 4/1/2013. On 10/23/2018 we issued a formal request to cancel both our memberships by certified mail. As instructed we detailed all account information, names, and account numbers listed in the certified mailing. On 11/18/2018 we received notification that my account had been cancelled, but WOW continued to bill my wifes account. We notified the local gym and were told the issue would be resolved. A month later we received a new bill with an additional month due. We have emailed, called, and visited the Gym numerous times to attempt to correct the billing error, but we still continue to receive calls from the collection agency "***" and the monthly bill continues to arrive each month with increasing amounts due.
WOW makes it very difficult to cancel gym memberships. All of our emails, and phone calls have gone without response and we continue to receive a monthly invoice.
We apologize for any inconvenience. The confusion was due to one Certified Letter involving 4 contracts.
All 4 contracts associated have been cancelled and there is no balance due.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Sincerely
They're cutting back on their hours but not letting their members know until AFTER they take the annual dues out this week. Not ethical at all. Glad I caught wind of this before the annual dues come out.
As this business is a fitness center, I am concerned about the level of cleanliness and sanitary diligence provided. I am not sure if a business like this is subject to inspection by the board of health. I see no certificate posted. They do sell packaged food and drink and have shower and bathroom facilities, as well as lockers for temporary storage of clothing.
Equipment provided is in either disrepair, uncalibrated or broken and sense of urgency to resolve does not exist.I am told that requests are allowed and nothing seems to happen after that.
Posted membership rules are ignored and not followed, negating a positive customer experience.
Advertised amenities, such as free wireless, do not exist. Other stock images of fitness center give an impression A physical plant that also does not exist.
In short, I am paying membership fees and have an expectation of service that is not being met.
This member comes in every day and is also participating in Personal Training.
We have a full time Mechanic and a full time Custodian who do an excellent job in keeping our equipment downtime at a minimum and a clean gym respectively.
We have signed up with *** for their recently developed WiiFi Sysyem and the install is being scheduled.
Thank you,
George

On 12/29/2017 myself and my sister both purchased separate gym memberships. The advertisement we assumed we were purchasing was for $0 startup fee- 3 people for $20 a month which was suppose to include Unlimited use of group classes, unlimited TRAINING, unlimited access to all wow locations and unlimited tanning per there online website which I took a picture of and there commercial which I also recorded. After signing up and receiving a call for our 1st week of free training, we found out that there was no unlimited training only the one week of free training and then you have to pay for training. One of the main reasons I signed up was for the motivation to loose weight from a trainer and the "unlimited" training. We contacted there customer service via email and they were not willing to budge even though they falsely advertised and stating it was and error on there end and they corrected it, "multiple people were calling and complaining about the same thing" and all they could say was say there apologies. As you can tell I was very upset, they tried to get me to purchase classes from them at this point. After they stated they corrected the problem me and my sister saw the commercial again and we recorded it and this was a new deal for 2018 with the same exact commercial and FALSE ADVERTISING that expired 01/13/2018. So they were continuing to advertise the same false commercial after they said they corrected it.
Our advertisement for a *** Membership is as follows: > Unlimited Use of Group Classes > Unlimited Training > Unlimited Access to All WOW! Locations > Unlimited TanningNone of these statements say that they are free. The definition of 'unlimited' is: not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent. We use our own discretion on what the specific offers entail. The current details of the above offers for a *** Membership that are subject to change as we see fit are:: Unlimited Use of Group Classes - We are currently providing group classes at no additional cost. Unlimited Training - We are currently providing 1 week of Personal Training at no cost to assist new members in the start of their fitness journey. Additional Personal Training is the decision of the member and at their cost. Unlimited Access to All WOW! Locations - We currently invite new members to use any of the facilities at all our locations at no additional cost. Unlimited Tanning - We currently provide Tanning Services at all our locations at no additional cost.To ensure that potential new members know what the details of any ads and/or commercials are, we always include the statement 'see club for details' in all our advertising.-- -- --

I am rejecting this response because: when we spoke to the manager and the personal trainer we were informed that this was an error and it was going to be taken down immediately and then we saw the commercial again with the same exact advertisement. We have already contacted the news and are moving forward they are very interested in our story being as people are being falsely informed and you are then trying to get people to pay for a locked in 1 yr of training services. The recording that we have state that there is unlimited training, tanning, location use and classes. This statement should be reworded in there commercial if they do not expect clients to be upset. And in the commercial it does state "FREE".
