My husband and I recently received excellent service from Winmar. They were professional and friendly. We are extremely pleased with the quality of the work completed and highly recommend this company.
Winmar Victoria replaced a skylight over an outside walkway in 2017. Less than a year later in spring 2018, there was a six inch leak on the sidewalk under it. In fall the leak covered an area 2 ft by 2 ft. I took pictures every time it leaked.
I reported the problem to the owner of the franchise in mid-November. He agreed to come and fix the problem.
He finally came to caulk the skylight in early December 2018. He said the skylight was only meant to deflect water. My answer is that it's not meant to deflect it on the heads of visitors using the sidewalk.
The skylight leaked again on Jan 8, 2019. I sent him an email which he has not answered.
I am thankful for the Revdex.com system which allows, me, the owner to respond to a negative review. My team and I have completed between 160-180 jobs each of the last 4 years, and this is my only negative review. Sharon warned me she will send this if she dodnt like how my warrenty worked, and that's her right as a consumer. Sharon asked Winamr to replace a glass deflector on her roof above a breezeway, It was not a sealed unit, like a skylight, but a garden shed sheet good. the lower edge was resting in the valley of the roof, where water collects between two slopes. With heavy rain, it can overwhelm the valley and drip. We were both aware that the deflector we were replacing, leaked in the same locations. I felt we had improved the overall design, with using aluminum batts to hold the product down, rather than 2x4 wood which was bulky and does not have the lifespan. Ultimately, Sharon wanted a sealed unit, which would mean a redesign flashing, structural faming, to put a actual window in place, and redo the shingles on both slopes. This is clearly out of my scope, and I do not feel that it is our responsibly to do this when a lesser scope was accepted. I provided a like, kind and quality, and not a complete redesign. I believe the product is functioning as advertised. I have apologised to Sharron as well.
I note that Winmar is not Revdex.com accredited. I will never deal with any building or restoration company which is not accredited again. Why would I pay $*** for to replace a skylight that supposedly leaked with one of similar materials and design? Wouldn’t I have asked for something different if I knew it was a poor design and would leak?
Mr Pennock said ‘We were both aware that the deflector we were replacing, leaked in the same locations’. I was not aware of any such thing, and I never heard the word deflector used of the skylight before this email. The old skylight did not leak at all. The new skylight leaks in only one place when it is windy and rainy. Not in rain alone. But over a period of hours a patch of water about 2 ft by 3 ft appeared on the walkway.
He built the new skylight. When I complained that it leaked in rain. He came back and put caulking on. Shouldn’t he have used it in the first place? The sheets seem to lift about 1/3 of the way across in wind. A line of water on one of the beams can be seen in these conditions. I wonder if he used a flexible caulking as recommended by the inspector.
The skylight is not glass; it is a type of fiberglass. I’m not sure what is meant by a ‘a garden shed sheet good’.
