Review: I purchased a wood stove using a credit card, returned it the following day without taking it out of the box only to be charged a $103.46 credit card processing fee. The store's return policy was not pointed out to me at the time of the sale and a one page notice of this fee was covered up on the counter where I could not see it. I thought the fee was a little excessive and should have been pointed out at the time of purchase as nothing of this policy was on the description receipt that was given me. I also called my credit card company and they said their fee to the merchant should not be that much.Desired Settlement: I would like to have a refund of the true cost to the merchant for this transaction and what was charged to me.

My response to this complaint is :
Mr. [redacted] was
told when he purchased the stove and had pulled out his credit card to make the
purchase that there was a fee for using his credit card and that I would prefer
cash or check. When Mr. [redacted] insisted on using his credit card, I said 1 would
waive the fee. However, on the next day when Mr. [redacted] returned the stove I
informed him that I could not take the stove back without charging him for the
Credit Card processing fee. The credit card policy with the 3% fee is posted on
the sales counter under the glass on a 8.5 x 11 colored piece of paper. This
was where Mr. [redacted] signed his credit card slip. I understand that the real
question here is that Mr. [redacted] feels that the 3% fee is too much and that he
called his credit card company and they told him that their
fee was not that much. However, there is more to processing a credit card then
just the bankcard issuer’s fee. I try very hard to keep my credit card
processing fees to the absolute minium. The 3% fee is what my credit card
processor has been charging me for the last 7 years. In order to prove to both
you and Mr. [redacted] I have taken my last 3 months worth of statements to my
local bank manager at [redacted] Bank. [redacted] Bank is NOT my
credit card processor! He is a neutral third party but with the expertise to
verily what my fees are. His results are that the processing fees are 2.991% on
credit card transactions. This is in the attached letter.
I am sorry the stove Mr [redacted] purchased did not
work for him. In 19 years as the owner of Welenco Stove Store I have only had
one other stove returned. We strive very hard to make sure the stove is going
to work in the right application before the sale, and accompanying transaction
is made.
