Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci, S.C.

My husband and I attended our house closing on Friday June 8th, 2012. The buyers bank required we do the closing at a lawfirm, "Weid Riley Prenn & Ricci SC" in [redacted]. The closing statement listed a debit to the seller (my husband and I) for 2011 2nd quarter tax's in the amount of $1,134.14. We explained that we had already paid off this 2nd quarter tax (on May 7, 2012) which was well prior to our closing date. The attorny made the decision to hold onto the check, validate we had paid off the tax amount that was due and then reimburse us. We offered to send him a copy of our property tax receit but he told us he preferred to handle it because he wanted to get things completed quickly. He didn't want to wait to have us send him the reciet, it would take too long. On Wednesday June 13th I contacted their office because we had not heard anything regarding our check. I explained the situation to a receptionist and she told me that she had made a mistake. She, herself had sent the check to the county on Friday June 8th, not knowing it was suppose to be held, and the county had returned it to the attorny's office the day prior to my call (June 12th) stating the tax's were already paid. I then asked her if they will be sending the check to us this week and to my surprise, she stated " We are very busy. We have other house closings. I don't know when we will send it" She did not even give an apology for her/their error. She sounded irritated and defensive even though it was her/their mistake. It has been over a week since the closing and as of today, Saturday June 16th, 2012 we still have not received our money.
