Had transmission rebuilt and was returned the truck with vibrations diagnosed by a second shop as damaged motor mounts from improper engine support
On October 11, 2019, I took my 2004 Ford F150 2 WD truck to Wayne's transmissions in Deland to have the transmission rebuilt. Once completed I picked up the truck and Wayne told me that there was a vibration that was being caused by a coil failure in cylinder six.
I told him there were no warning lights when I gave him the truck and no vibration. On the way home the truck slipped in and out of first gear several times at which time I brought the truck back to him and told him about it. It wasn't happening when I got back to him and he said it might have just been something stuck that loosened up and is now OK but to drive it for a couple days and let him know if it happened again so he could fix it I took his word and went and had the cylinder six coil and plug replaced. That didn't help. I called him and told him and he said to bring the truck back and he would look at it. I took it back to him a couple days later and he called me that afternoon saying it was all better and now my problem had been that the truck was running lean and he fixed it. He also said that he cleaned the mass airflow sensor and oxygen sensor. Upon picking it up I noticed right away that the vibration was still there. I had him sit in the truck with me and he agreed it was still thare but said it was a little better.
He said drive it for a couple days and it should get better, but to let him know if it didn't then to bring it back.
The problem continued so I called and told him and he said bring it back again. This time he said he changed out the torque converter and put a new mass airflow sensor in and that none of that helped. He said then that it was a vacuum leak (third different excuse) in the intake that was causing it and that I needed to take it to a shop he knew (*** in Orange City) that could do a smoke test to determine that.
I took it to the shop he recommended and they agreed with him that there was a vacuum leak and that they could fix the vacuum leak for $600. They said it would not have had anything to do with the transmission repair and could be completely coincidental. That didn't sound plausible so I then went to a third mechanic (performance tire and wheel in Orange city) to get advice. He said there was no way this was caused by a vacuum leak and that if there was a leak that significant there would be indicators on the truck diagnostic system.
They inspected the truck and made the diagnosis that the motor mounts had most likely been damaged or bent due to improper support during the transmission repair causing the engine balance to change causing the vibration that wasn't showing up in any other way in the truck. They quoted approximately $1000 to replace the motor mounts.
I then attempted to call Wayne's shop and got only a voice message machine. I left messages on three days from November 12 on with no response.
I am now left with a damaged truck and the only recourse spending $1000 to fix.
Repair the motor mounts at their cost
first and foremost, this problem existed before we rebuilt the transmission, and I never claimed I did or would fix the vibration. the transmission has cant cause this complaint, I diagnosed the problem, and explained the first step to fixing the vibration, which has nothing to do rebuilding the transmission. if the truck needs motor mounts, it cant be a result of rebuilding the transmission, therefore we arent interested in addressing it. this is a very unreasonable complaint, as the issue has nothing to do with our work, nor our parts, and simply needs this repair work done.

First, this problem did not exist prior to the transmission repair.
When I picked up the truck Wayne acknowledged a vibration which he said his diagnostic equipment had indicated was due to a "cylinder 5 coil failure". I had that coil and plug replaced with no improvement. In an additional attempt to cure the "diagnosed" issue I had all plugs and boots replaced. None of this cured the vibration and cost approximately $400.
I went back to Wayne's and he then said it was due to the engine running lean. He claimed to fix this and returned it to me. He agreed that the vibration was still there and told me to "drive it for a couple days" and let him know if it still persists.
It did.
I took it back to him again at which point he gave a third "diagnostic " result of an intake vacuum leak. He told me to take it to a shop run by a former colleague of his who would confirm the leak. I did. He did. This shop offered to fix it for $600.
At this point it was clear to me that I was being manipulated so I took it to another local shop with a good reputation. An ASE certified mechanic there confirmed that none of those issues would have caused this vibration and that in his opinion it was most likely damaged or bent motor mounts. I asked if this could have happened during the transmission repair and he said it could have been the result of not properly supporting the engine during the transmission removal.
In summary, Wayne's offered three separate excuses for the issue while continuing to assure me that their work was guaranteed and that they would do whatever was necessary to ensure my satisfaction. My last three calls went unanswered and my messages ignored.
I am offended by the claim that I am just seeking repair of an existing issue after paying $2,200 for my repair in good faith that their satisfaction guarantee would be honored instead of withholding payment until the issue was resolved. Shame on them for trying to turn this around on me.

Subject: Re: Revdex.com Reminder Consumers Rebuttal
WE DID REPLY TO THIS. THERES NO WAY THAT INSTALLING A TRANSMISSION CAN RUIN ENGINE MOUNTS. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS CLAIM. IF THIS TRUCK NEEDS MOTOR MOUNTS, ITS SIMPLY DUE TO AGE, AS THE RUBBER DETERIORATES FROM TIME .WEVE GONE TOO FAR AS IT IS, CHANGING THE TORQUE CONVERTER, DUE TO CUSTOMERS CLAIM THAT HE KNEW IT WAS THAT, WHICH WE PROVED THAT IT WASNT, AT MY EXPENSE. FURTHERMORE, WE INSTALLED A NEW MAF, TO BRING THE FUEL TRIMS DOWN TO NORMAL AT CRUISE SPEED, BUT COULDNT FIX THE IDLE FUEL TRIMS, BECAUSE IT HAD A SIGNIFICANT VAC LEAK, THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED TO PREVENT CATALYTIC CONVERTER DAMAGE AND PROVIDE A SMOOTH IDLE. I SPENT $100 ON A NEW MAf, and 5 hrs of time on the second torque converter, at my expense, that I shoildnyt have had to. WAYNE.

Done arguing No point. No vibration when I dropped it off. Vibration when I picked it up. Owner blamed it on coil failure, then engine running too lean and then vacuum leak. No warning indicators or diagnosis faults for any of these "issues". MAF wasn't a problem so no need to replace at his cost. Labor he spent was to try to resolve issue. Nice guy. I think he went out of his way to try and help but in the end never resolved the issue or took responsibility.
Couldn't drive the truck without feeling it so I sold the truck after having it 15 years and moved on. Nothing to do now do consider it resolved and lesson learned.
