There was a verbal agreement between me and the company in question. The verbal agreement consisted of a $250 initial payment for services plus additional charges for any extra pages and words that they transcribed for me. Services were never rendered due to complications in court. I thought the matter was handled. They were paid $250 to do nothing. I then receive a letter in the mail claiming that I owe them an extra $60. I emailed them back telling them I would not be paying the $60 as they already got $250 for free.I then proceeded to ask for a refund since they were essentially trying to steal from me. This organization is not out for the people but for monetary gain. They do not care who they walk on. As long as they get the money that they want.

In response to the complaint filed May 7, 2020 by ***, we are providing the following rebuttal and documentation. 1. *** called and ordered a court reporter for a hearing on January 2, 2020 at 11 am in the General District Court for *** County
2. Since *** was pro se, he was require to pay a minimum retainer of $250 prior to the assignment. For that, the court reporter was hired for two hours only and if the assignment went over two hours, there would be an addition charge of $60 each additional hour.
3. Court reporter appeared on January 2, 2020 at 10:35 am (time to set up and be prepared for the Judge to take the bench at 11 am).
4. Hearing ACTUAL START TIME was 1:20 pm and at the time the court reporter was dismissed.
5. *** was charged for an additional hour the court reporter was on duty
6. *** was told this up front and the additional charge was placed:
7. *** was billed, invoices and statements sent, refusing to pay.
8. *** was emailed 3/4/20, 3/30/20 and 4/17/20. On 5/1/20 he was called; mailbox full, not accepting messages. Emailed again with a collection note
9. *** disputed and Veteran Reporters, Inc. wrote off the balance however, since our court reporter appeared, set up and was ready when needed, the $250 was required.
10. *** felt that court reporter did nothing because the Court dismissed the matter, but we did our job and stand by that.
Thank you.
