Review: My adult daughter took her dog to VCA Asher for emergency care on 8/10/14. VCA automatically billed me without checking, because my name and address was on a past bill for this dog from many years ago. They did not check or update any of their information during this visit. I called VCA to rectify the billing error and was told they would not change the billing information unless both my daughter and I come in together. I refuse to do this because her dog died on 8/11/14 and she is very depressed and having a difficult time dealing with this situation. I will not ask her come to VCA and revisit this place of painful memories in order to fix this error. I feel it is insensitive of VCA to insist this be done.Desired Settlement: My request is simple. I want my name and address taken off the bill and my daughter's added. I also am not to be held responsible for payment of this bill.

Response:
We understand that this is a difficult time for the family. This is a unique and complicated situation. The pet, [redacted], has been in a medical record with the names [redacted] and [redacted] receiving care with us since 2005. During the most recent visit, nothing was mentioned about a change in ownership/financial responsibility for [redacted]’s care. [redacted] was brought in during our emergency hours, and presented as an emergency, so it is understandable that the first priority was to get [redacted] seen. Previously we requested that both parties come in together to change over ownership of [redacted], and transfer the balance due for the care we provided. We made this request, because, as you can understand, it is not legally appropriate for us to make someone responsible for a balance without their express permission. The client stated that this is a difficult time for their daughter and do not want her to have to come in. If their daughter contacts the hospital by phone or can have her email the hospital directly ([redacted]) to provide us with the information needed to transfer records, we will do so.
