the battery was $ [redacted].** plus tax (as priced on the shelf). We do offer $** for the old battery (core) which we then send back for recycling. If you have the old battery with you when you buy the new battery, we apply the $** to your bill, which would lower your total at the checkout. If you come in later it is a separate transaction (stand- alone casting refund).The following is our corporate policy for stand -alone castings. We follow the CRA guidelines for castings.When a customer returns a casting for a refund of the casting price and does NOT purchase a replacement part in the same transaction, this is a stand-alone casting refund.For stand-alone casting refunds in [redacted] and [redacted] customers are entitled to a refund of the provincial sales tax paid on the original purchase. (These customers must provide the original receipt as proof. Without the receipt no PST should be refunded). In all other provinces, customers do not get a refund of any taxes paid on the casting price.

After a clear explanation in Canadian Tire's response I now completely understand the policy and have no issue with it.I would suggest the policy be made clear initially to customers to avoid misunderstandings in the future. Thank You to all concerned. *.[redacted]
