My wife and I returned from a trip out of town to find our basement flooded There had not been any rain while we were away, so we suspected some new source of water coming into the basement We called ValueDry, America's Basement Specialists The inspector disregarded my suggestion of a new source of water as the cause of the flooding He said he sees the problem all the time and showed us a computer presentation reinforcing his diagnosis that water was coming in through the foundation He said it would cost $26,to fix, but if we signed right then and put down a deposit, ValueDry would do the work for $16, That should have been a red flag, but we had a basement full of water and felt desperate ValueDry cashed the down payment, but never called to schedule the work I called them, and they somewhat reluctantly gave me two days later the next month To shorten the story We discovered the real source of the problem and paid $2,to a plumber and small construction company to fix it It was a busted pipe coming from the well and leaking water through the cellar door ValueDry would not let us out of the contract Fifty-four days after the signing of the contract, ValueDry sent subcontractors over - none of them speaking English - to do the job Nobody from ValueDry even showed up the first day The subcontractors turned my finished basement into an unfinished basement, tearing off entire walls of oak paneling - instead of the lower feet the inspector led me to believe, knocking down walls, ripping out my heating, breaking my laundry sink, damaging my washing machine, breaking a window screen, placing the holes for the sump-pumps in opposite corners from the contract designation - all with no supervision from ValueDry What was supposed to be a 2-day job took days from the signing of the contract to finish If I had not paid someone else to fix the problem, ValueDry's subcontractors could not even have done their work because the basement would have been floodedWhen my basement is finally finished, I will have spent around $30,instead of the $2,which was necessary to fix the problem
My wife and I returned from a trip out of town to find our basement flooded. There had not been any rain while we were away, so we suspected some new source of water coming into the basement. We called ValueDry, America's Basement Specialists. The inspector disregarded my suggestion of a new source of water as the cause of the flooding. He said he sees the problem all the time and showed us a computer presentation reinforcing his diagnosis that water was coming in through the foundation. He said it would cost $26,000 to fix, but if we signed right then and put down a deposit, ValueDry would do the work for $16,000. That should have been a red flag, but we had a basement full of water and felt desperate. ValueDry cashed the down payment, but never called to schedule the work. I called them, and they somewhat reluctantly gave me two days later the next month. To shorten the story ... We discovered the real source of the problem and paid $2,500 to a plumber and small construction company to fix it. It was a busted pipe coming from the well and leaking water through the cellar door. ValueDry would not let us out of the contract. Fifty-four days after the signing of the contract, ValueDry sent subcontractors over - none of them speaking English - to do the job. Nobody from ValueDry even showed up the first day. The subcontractors turned my finished basement into an unfinished basement, tearing off entire walls of oak paneling - instead of the lower 3 feet the inspector led me to believe, knocking down walls, ripping out my heating, breaking my laundry sink, damaging my washing machine, breaking a window screen, placing the holes for the sump-pumps in opposite corners from the contract designation - all with no supervision from ValueDry. What was supposed to be a 2-day job took 71 days from the signing of the contract to finish. If I had not paid someone else to fix the problem, ValueDry's subcontractors could not even have done their work because the basement would have been flooded. When my basement is finally finished, I will have spent around $30,000 instead of the $2,500 which was necessary to fix the problem.
