I requested an appointment for a notary and didn't realize the cost. I canceled the appointment over 30 minutes prior upon finding out the cost and was advised that I would owe a 15 cancellation fee. When I offered to pay it when the person arrived at the location they advised that I would have to pay it to their collections department. When I scheduled the appointment they never mentioned a cancellation fee and I only agreed to pay it in person for their time. Since they never sent the person nor warned about a cancellation fee, I don't believe I should pay the fee.
We did advise the customer of the fee and sent a confirmation email with the invoice prior to the appointment. The customer canceled 20 minutes prior to the appointment. As stated in the invoice there is a $25 fee for cancelations with minimal notice. It is not fair for the notary to drive across town just to turn around and not get paid. The *** (***) was kind enough to only ask for $15 however we understand the customers financial situation and will not pursue the debt.
