Twin Cities Equipment Rental Reviews (2)

Will not be using them againWe had what they called a “miscommunication” which was them telling us we get “more time” if we rent on Saturday which apparently only means you get to keep it longer not actually use it like longer which is technically on the bill but goes against how they explained it twice on the phone prior to rental and the day of pick up(We wouldn’t have used it longer if we knew) Not everyone is a contractor and understands all the information thrown at themWe relied on their customer service to explain their information and they clearly took advantage and used misguided wording or lack there ofIn the long wrong we were charge an extra $My fault for relying on the company to explain it correctly and not fully understanding the contract but unfortunate to do business in such a shady mannerThis is a live and learn and I hope this helps someone not make my mistake in the future

Review: I rented a Vermeer 4150. trencher on a Friday morning apx. 9:00 am. I worked Friday for 6 hrs. Saturday I used it until 1:00 pm., when the tire went flat. I called the rental yard & asked how they wanted to handle it & they told me to call Les Schwab & have it repaired, but not to replace the tire. The service man came out and replaced the tube He said the valve stem was leaking around the base due to being weathered. I went right back to work finishing at 4:45 pm Saturday. It was to late to return it before closing time at 5:00 pm & they are closed on Sunday, so I returned it Monday at 7:00 am The gentalman at the return counter billed me for 3 days I explained to him that I didn't use it Sunday and that if the tube hadden't failed I would of returned it Saturday. I then inquired as to how many hours were on the hour meter and he said 11. I pointed out to him that It states right on their contract ( daily rate is baised on 8 hrs. ). He billed me for 3 days anyway. Weeks latter when Les Schwab sent Twin City the bill for the service call they refused to pay it they said I could of hit something with the valve stem .I explained I was using the trencher in open, level, flat, ground prepped to plant trees and that I hadden't hit anything. They we're not willing to work with me.Desired Settlement: I want to be refunded 1 day and I want them to pay for the service call and tube that Les Schwab is billing me for 124.23

Response:

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to address Mr. [redacted], dissatisfaction with the rental on March 14. I am at a loss, as to why Mr. [redacted] feels this way because when he returned the trencher on March 17, We settled on a comprise, he paid the bill and we shook hands and I thought he was happy. For Him to say that we charged him the full three days is a little disingenuous, because we did discount the third day by $227.50, from $325. To $97.50. As to the fee for the tire repair, when Mr. [redacted] called to inform us that He had gotten a flat tire with the trencher, We reminded him that the renter is responsible for all tire damage. That position is clearly stated in Large Red type on the top of the rental contract. This policy has been in place for over 45 years and is pretty much an industry standard. The tire was not damaged when we rented the trencher, in fact it operated for two days before the damage happened. There are many things that could have happened. Mr. [redacted] and myself talked about some of the possible causes of the flat when he returned the trencher. A satisfied customer is important to our future. You can see by the number of complaints that have been lodged with you over the last 52 years, that we are fair and equitable when [redacted]ing with mishaps that do happen in the course of business. In the spirit of fairness to all and for goodwill , I believe Mr. [redacted] still needs to finish trenching for his orchard. We would like to offer Mr. [redacted] a $100.00 discount on a future trencher rental.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:< I needed a trencher for approximently 12 hrs. of work. The hour meter read 11 hrs. on the equip when I returned it. On that same contract he is referring to it states one day rental is 8 hrs. He is charging me for 2+days or 97.50 for renting the equip on the one day of the week they are closed ( Sunday ). He is right to state that it says in big bold print in red, Tire damage is to be paid by the renter. But the manger at Les schwab & the service man that repaired the flat both agreed the flat was due to a faulty & weathered tube not tire damage or a puncture. Now I have a bill at Les Schwab for the service call and the tube for 147.23. My point being,if the tube would have not failed, the equip would have been returned on 16th, saving me a total of 244.73 in added expense due to less than field ready equipment. He also failed to mention the fuel gauge did not work and I had to put air in the tire every couple of hours on the trencher that I rented 2 weeks pryor to renting this one to complete the work at hand. As far as his offer to trade me 100.00 for 244.73, I don't think so. Their are plenty of equipment rental yards closer to home with field ready equipment. I felt I gave him enough opportunities to make it right. He chose to bill me for time I was unable to return the equipment and have me pay for faulty equipment.

Response:

In response to Mr. [redacted]’s complaint: When renting the equipment Mr. [redacted] signed a rental agreement with Twin Cities Equipment Rentals. The agreement states that the rental of the trencher was from 3/14/2014 at 7:59am and due on 3/15/2014 at 7:59am for the 1 day rental fee. On the rental agreement it also states in Section 7 of the agreement that rental rates begin when the equipment leaves the rental center and end when the equipment return to the rental center, with no allowances made for Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or time in transit. In section 7 it also states that rental rates are based upon single shift usage (8 hours per day, 5 days per week) and that if a customer makes greater use of the equipment it is agreed that additional usage will be charged. Rentals are charged by possession time of the equipment, not by hours used on the equipment. Hours are only used in determining overage of use during the rental possession period. Mr. [redacted] returned the equipment on 3/17/2014 at 7:17am thus having rented the equipment for 3 days, the 14th-17th. The rental charge for 3 days use at $325.00/day is $975.00, we only billed Mr. [redacted] $747.50 of rental, giving him a discount of $227.50 at the time of return. In response to the tire damages: We do maintenance and inspection of every piece of equipment before and after every single rental. The tire was not flat or leaking air at the time of the rental. As is stated multiple times on the rental agreement, Lessee is responsible for ALL damage to tires. We cannot control what happens outside of the rental center. It was not leaking when it left, Mr. [redacted] claims that it went flat Saturday afternoon meaning that the tire was fine until after two days of using the trencher. Ultimately we were willing to work with Mr. [redacted] and gave him a $227.50 rental discount when he returned the machine on the 17th.
